• Issues with nVidia GeForce 210 while watching movies

  Ever since 10.04 I have been trying to resolve an issue with my graphics card - nVidia GeForce 210. I'm having issues when I watch movies - they are jumping all the time, even with Compiz disabled and when that is the only thing I am doing. I have tried the solution to How to get NVidia GeForce GT 210 drivers working on Lucid Lynx? but it didn't work. How can I fix this? Here are the steps I took: apt-get --purge remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau edit /etc/default/grub to add the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nouveau.modeset=0" sudo update-grub Reboot Download official Linux drivers from nVidia site. sh filename-of-downloaded-driver-package

• Blender 2.64, what are the actual hot-keys for certain actions

  I know this sounds mega lame but I've looked for hotkeys for certain actions, first in the appliation's User Settings (where I didn't find them) then in the official documentation (where I did find some of them but they're not the right ones): http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:2.4/Manual/3D_interaction/Transform_Control/Manipulators (Ctrl - Alt - S is recommended for Scale, but instead it opens the Save As... window - I think these changed in the latest versions, but they forgot to update the docs) So then, what are the hot keys for: selecting translate manipulator selecting rotate manipulator selecting scale manipulator In Edit mode: select vertex (editing) select edges (editing) select faces (editing) thanks.

  On a site, every click on a product should be registered by a sales tracker: price, type, etc. The sales tracker should provide an API so that complex queries can be performed, such as: Which products of a type "teapot" had a price below 20 EUR? Requirements: Recorded data should be available for querying no later than two hours after it has been recorded. For example, there are reports that Google Analytics may take up to 24h to update data. That is not acceptable. Querying doesn't need to be fast, but recording does (of course). Which sales tracker allows complex queries against collected data?

• Double-click instead of single-click in Ubuntu 12.04

  When I do a single click, my computer (with Ubuntu 12.04) acts like it was double click. I think it happens in ~50% of cases. It happens with all the program I use: browsers, file manager, terminal and so on. I'm not sure when exactly it started, maybe a week ago, and I don't remember if it started to happen after system-update or after the installation of some packages. What I tried: change mouse change mouse settings like Double-Click Timeout None of those helped me. Any ideas? Thanks.

• Using components in the XNA Game State Management example?

  In the game state management example at the App Hub, they say that if you want to use components in the example you can extend the GameScreen to host other components inside itself. I'm having a very hard time trying to tie this up. I tried extending the GameScreen class by adding a public property of public List<DrawableGameCompnent> components { get; set; } and then add my components to that list when I initialize the current screen as well as looping over the components in the LoadContent, Update and Draw methods. However, this doesn't feel like the correct way to go - mainly because it doesn't work when I get to the implementation of my GameplayScreen. Any thoughts?

• Service Layer - how broad should it be, and should it also be on the local application?

  Background: I need to build a desktop application with some operations (CRUD and more) (=winforms), I need to make another application which will re-use some of the functions of the main application (=webforms). I understood that using service layer is the best approach here. If I understood correctly the service should be calling the function on the BL layer (correct me if I'm wrong) The dilemma: In my main winform UI - should I call the functions from the BL, or from the service? (please explain why) Should I create a service for every single function on the BL even if I need some of the functions only in one UI? for example - should I create services for all the CRUD operations, even though I need to re-use only update operation in the webform? YOUR HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED

• Lubuntu 13.04 Resolution Issue du to ppa makson96

  I've installed Lubuntu 13.04 on my notebook. (It's the first time I use Lubuntu) I had graphical issue, apparently due to the graphic driver (ATI Radeon Xpress 1200) I followed this procedure to correct my problem : sudo add-apt-repository ppa:makson96 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install fglrx-legacy My graphical issue has been corrected but now it shows a low resolution (1024*768) and I can't change it. the xrandr result : xrandr: failed to get size of gamma output default Screen 0: minimum 1024x768, current 1027x768, maximum 1024x768 default connected 1024x768+0+0 0mmx0mm 1024x768 0.0* I've already read this topic but I don't really understand how things work there. • Where can I safetly search domain whois without worrying about the search engine parking on the domain immediately after the search?

  There are a lot of companies that provide domain whois but I've heard of a lot of people who had bad experiences where the domain was bought soon after the whois search and the price was increased dramatically. Where can I gain access to a domain whois where I don't have to worry about that happening? Update: Apparently, the official name for this practice is called Domain Front Running and some sites go as far as to create explicit policies stating that they don't do it. This is where a domain registrar or an intermediary (like a domain lookup site) mines the searches for possibly attractive domains and then either sells the data to a third-party, or goes ahead and registers the name themselves ahead of you. In one case a registrar took advantage of what's known as the "grace period" and registered every single domain users looked up through them and held on to them for 5 days before releasing them back into the pool at no cost to themselves.   This question already has an answer here: add repository to ubuntu from terminal with pgp key 3 answers I have used Ubuntu for several years, and I can not enter password for sudo, and this is when i wanna add a key to public.gpg for itunes10 it dos not work, and the password normal works wite sudo but not in the terminal when i enter: sudo wget -q "http:// deb.playonlinux.com/public.gpg" -o- | sudo apt-get add - and it says this 'sorry try again', and i just had installed itunes10, and have to add a key whit wget to public.gpg, and i tried to enter in the terminal: sudo apt-get update and the password works fine but not whit using sudo wget, and can some one please help.

• Oracle Linux 6.3 RPMs Now Available

  The installation media ISO for Oracle Linux 6.3 is still "in the oven" but the RPMs are already available.  You can grab them on ULN, if you have an Oracle Linux support subscription, or anyone can get them from public-yum.oracle.com.  Oracle Linux 6.3 includes a quarterly update of Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 2 (kernel-uek-2.6.39-200.9.0.el6uek).  To install that kernel, make sure you have the ol6_UEK_latest channel or repo enabled.  Enjoy.

• HDMI Audio stops after TV turned off

  After the 12.04 Update my HDMI audio stops working anytime I turn off my 2nd monitor(plasma TV). Graphics card is a Radeon 6800 which has DVI out to 1st monitor, HDMI out to receiver which the TV gets it's Audio/Video. Audio is always via my receiver sound. Things work fine as long as it boots with the TV and Receiver on. Turn off the TV and BART's HDMI audio will go away, and the HDMI option vanishes from the sound menu. I had an occasional HDMI issue with 11.10 but turning on/off the TV would fix the sound. How can I hardcode things so that it always uses HDMI out of audio? I suspect the TV is sending a signal upon that 12.04 is now listening for. Turning the TV back on does NOT resolve this, and I'd suggest having the ability to override this new "feature" via sound menu.

• How do you go about checking your open source libraries for keystroke loggers?

  A random person on the internet told me that a technology was secure(1), safe to use and didn't contain keyloggers because it is open source. While I can trivially detect the key stroke logger in this open source application, what can developers(2) do to protect themselves against rouge committers to open source projects? Doing a back of the envelope threat analysis, if I were a rogue developer, I'd fork a branch on git and promote it's download since it would have twitter support (and a secret key stroke logger). If it was an SVN repo, I'd create just create a new project. Even better would be to put the malicious code in the automatic update routines. (1) I won't mention which because I can only deal with one kind of zealot at a time. (2) Ordinary users are at the mercy of their virus and malware detection software-- it's absurd to expect grandma to read the source of code of their open source word processor's source code to find the keystroke logger.

• MVC shared model different required fields on different type

  I have a model called Car and depending on what type of Car the user select the view is presented differently. For example the user selects from a grid of different cars and depending if it is a Volvo or a Kia or a Ford the view must allow different fields to be editable. For example with a Volvo the color is editable and is mandatory but with a Kia it is not. I would like to use the one Car class to bind the view but want the client side validation to pick up the required fields based on what type of car. I want to go only to one Action method for the Update what is a good way to approach this problem...? create a base class and inherit from it? will this give me binding problems..?

  Im creating an iPhone game with Adobe AIR, and I want to be able to load a simple text msg into an dynamic text box on the games front screen from my server (and then be able to update that text file on the server, so it updates automatically in the game after the game is on the app store) How would I go about acheiving that? is it as simple as using a getURL? are there any specifical issues with trying to do this on the iPhone via AIR that I should be aware of? • How do I get my folders back on my desktop?

  Using the 12.04 version. This morning the Update Manager popped up, I clicked it and it said some items will be un-installed and some will be upgraded and new ones will be installed. I did it and restarted. On restart, I entered my password about 5 times and it said it was incorrect. I changed the shell from Gnome to Ubuntu and logged on then changed it back to Gnome and I was able to log on. However, all my folders on the screen are gone but they appear under Desktop in the Home folder. How do I get then back on the screen?

• Looking for an old classic book about Unix command-line tools

  I am looking for a book about the Unix command-line toolkit (sh, grep, sed, awk, cut, etc.) that I read some time ago. It was an excellent book, but I totally forgot its name. The great thing about this specific book was the running example. It showed how to implement a university bookkeeping system using only text-processing tools. You would find a student by name with grep, update grades with sed, calculate average grades with awk, attach grades to IDs with cut, and so on. If my memory serve, this book had a black cover, and was published circa 1980. Does anyone remember this book? I would appreciate any help in finding it.

  I'm having some trouble using the easing equations suggested by Robert Penner for ActionScript (http://www.robertpenner.com/easing/, and a Flash demo here) in my C# XNA game. Firstly, what is the definition of the following variables passed in as arguments to each equation? float t, float b, float c, float d I'm currently calculating the new X position of a sprite in the Update() loop, however even for the linear tween equation I'm getting some odd results. I'm using the following values: float t = gameTime.TotalGameTime.TotalMilliseconds; float d = 8000f; float b = x.Position.X; float c = (ScreenManager.Game.GraphicsDevice.Viewport.Width >> 1) - (x.Position.X + x.frameSize.X / 2); And this equation for linear easing: float val = c*t/d + b;

• "Operating system not found" after upgrading to 13.10

  I own a Thinkpad X121e and I upgraded its Ubuntu from 13.04 64bit to 13.10 64bit using the Update Manager. When the upgrade process suggested to restart the system, I restarted the computer and now it says "Operating system not found" after a very brief splash screen. The splash screen says something like (too brief to see everything): Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 ... For Atheros ethernet Controller ... Check cable connection! PXE-MOF: Exiting INTEL PXE ROM I prepared a startup USB disk using Ubuntu 13.10. I tried the startup USB and it works very well on other computers. So I changed the booting order of X121e and tried all three USB slots, all said "Operating System not found" without any splash screen. I also tried using startup USB with 12.04 LTS. Same results. I do not really want to reinstall the system now. Any hints on how to proceed?

• Quickly and Python Twisted

  I am creating a Quickly application that makes use of Python Twisted. When the user launches a window, I want to start the Twisted server I wrote. However, when I do this, it freezes the GUI, because the reactor.run method is constantly running after it is started. I need a way to start the Twisted reactor in its own thread, so that the GUI will continue to operate while the reactor is running. I have read about using Twisted with pyGTK in the Twisted documentation, but I am not sure how I would accomplish this with a Quickly application. What is the best way to start my Twisted server when a window opens without freezing the GUI? Update: My if __name__ == '__main__' statement at the end of my dialog file is: print 'Preparing GLib' GLib.idle_add(before_running) print 'Staring Reactor' from twisted.internet import reactor reactor.run()` I have imported and installed twisted.gtk3reactor earlier on in the file. The before_running method contains dialog = ClientDialog() and dialog.show, as well as the rest of the code I want to run when the dialog opens.
