I have a variable that stores a Unix path, for example:
typeset unixpath=/foo/bar/
And I have to convert it to a DOS path using Korn shell scripting:
dospath=\\foo\\bar\\
I resized an image using Java2D Graphics class. But it doesn't look right.
BufferedImage resizedImage = new BufferedImage(IMG_WIDTH, IMG_HEIGHT, type);
Graphics2D g = resizedImage.createGraphics();
g.drawImage(originalImage, 0, 0, IMG_WIDTH, IMG_HEIGHT, null);
g.dispose();
Is it possible to scale an image without introducing artifacts?
So I have what is essentially a spreadsheet in TIFF format. There is some uniformity to it...for example, all the column widths are the same. I want to de-limit this sheet by those known-column widths and basically create lots of little graphic files, one for each cell, and run OCR on them and store it into a database. The problem is that the horizontal lines are not all the same height, so I need to use some kind of graphics library command to check if every pixel across is the same color (i.e. black). And if so, then I know I've reached the height-delimiter for a cell. How would I go about doing that? (I'm using RMagick)
In this hardcore article there's a function find_maskwidth() that basically detects the number of bits required to represent itemCount dictinct values:
unsigned int find_maskwidth( unsigned int itemCount )
{
unsigned int maskWidth, count = itemCount;
__asm {
mov eax, count
mov ecx, 0
mov maskWidth, ecx
dec eax
bsr cx, ax
jz next
inc cx
mov maskWidth, ecx
next:
}
return maskWidth;
}
the question is why do they use ax and cx registers instead of eax and ecx?
I am trying to pull dynamics from a load that I run using bash. I have gotten to a point where I get the string I want, now from this I want to pull certain information that can vary. The string that gets returned is as follows:
Records: 2910 Deleted: 0 Skipped: 0 Warnings: 0
Each of the number can and will vary in length, but the overall structure will remain the same. What I want to do is be able to get these numbers and load them into some bash variables ie:
RECORDS=??
DELETED=??
SKIPPED=??
WARNING=??
In regex I would do it like this:
Records: (\d*?) Deleted: (\d*?) Skipped (\d*?) Warnings (\d*?)
and use the 4 groups in my variables.
I am passing in command line arguments to my Lisp program and they are formatted like this when they hit my main function:
("1 1 1" "dot" "2 2 2")
I have a dot function and would like to call it directly from the argument, but first I must strip the " characters.
I tried variations of this function:
(defun remove-quotes (s)
(setf (aref s 0) '""))
to no avail, Lisp complains that "" is not a member of base-char.
Thanks!
I'm getting ???????? characters in my PDF, i've stripped out \r\n \r \n \t, trimmed everything, decoded html entities and stripped tags. Nothing helps. The data is coming from a MySQL database.
Any help would be appreciated.
I have a large image, size around 30000 (w) x 6000 (h) pixels. You may consider it's like a big map. I assume I need to crop it up into smaller tiles. Questions:
what are the right ViewControllers to use?
(link) what is the tile strategy? (I put this in another question, as it's not iPhone specific)
Requirements:
whole image (though cropped) can be scrolled up/down/left/right by swipes
zoom in (up to pixel-to-pixel) out (down to screen-fit-by-height) by the 2-finger operation
memory efficiency by lazy loading tiles
Bonus requirements:
automatic scroll, say from left to right slowly and smoothly
Thanks!
Suppose you want to generate dynamic page titles that look like this:
"It was all a dream, I used to read word up magazine" from "Juicy" by The Notorious B.I.G
I.e., "LYRICS" from "SONG_NAME" by ARTIST
However, your title can only be 69 characters total and this template will sometimes generate titles that are longer.
One strategy for solving this problem is to truncate the entire string to 69 characters. However, a better approach is to truncate the less important parts of the string first. I.e., your algorithm might look something like this:
Truncate the lyrics until the entire string is <= 69 characters
If you still need to truncate, truncate the artist name until the entire string is <= 69 characters
If you still need to truncate, truncate the song name until the entire string is <= 69 characters
If all else fails, truncate the entire string to 69 characters
Ideally the algorithm would also limit the amount each part of the string could be truncated. E.g., step 1 would really be "Truncate the lyrics to a minimum of 10 characters until the entire string is <= 69 characters"
Since this is such a common situation, I was wondering if someone has a library or code snippet that can take care of it.
i have several old, unused batches that i'm redoing.. I have a batch file for an old network
arch from several years ago..
the main thing I'd like it to do now is read a list of files.. I'll explain the setup..
Server updates a complete list [CurrentMediaStores.txt] 2x a day. The laptops can set settings to DL this list through their start.bat which also runs addins and updates I aply to my pc's, to give my batches and myself a break from slavish folder assignments and add a lil more dynamics and less adminin the bats now call on a list the user makes by simply copying a line from the CMS.txt file and pasting it into their [Grab_List.txt]
My problem is though I have the branch :: off right now and the code that detects if LAN is connected or not to switch to an ftp connection.
I'd like for the ftp batch to call/ use the Grab_List also. but I just can't/ don't know how to pass and do the for loop with a ftp session to loop through x amount of files in the users req list..
Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated

I have a bunch of user generated addresses that may contain characters with diacritic marks.
What is the most effective (i.e. generic) way (apart from a straightforward replace) to automatically convert any such characters to their closest English equivalent?
E.g.
any of àâãäå would become a
æ would become the two separate letters ae
ç would become c
any of èéêë would become e
etc. for all possible letter variations (preferably without having to find and encode lookups for each diacritic form of the letter).
(Note: I have to pass these addresses on to third party software that is incapable of printing anything other than English characters. I'd rather the software was capable of handling them, but I have no control over that.)
EDIT: Never mind... Found the answer [here][2]. It showed up in the "Related" section to the right of the question after I posted, but not in my prior search or as a pre-post suggestion. Hmm. I added the 'diacritics' tag to the other question in any case.
EDIT 2: Jeez! Who voted this -1 after I closed it?
Well it is a basic question but I seem confused enough.
#include<stdio.h>
int main()
{
char a[100];
printf("Enter a string\n");
scanf("%s",a);
}
Basically the above is what I want to achieve.
If I enter a string
James Bond
then I want that to be stored in array a.
But the problem is because of presence of a blank space in between only James word is stored.
So how can I solve this one.
UPDATE
After the replies given below I understand fgets() would be a better choice. I want to know internal working of fgets as why is it able to store the string with space where as scanf is not able to do the same.
strtok wont work correctly when using char *str as the first parameter (not the delimiters string).
does it have something to do with the area that allocates strings in that notation? (which as far as i know, is a read-only area).
thanks in advance
example:
//char* str ="- This, a sample string."; // <---doesn't work
char str[] ="- This, a sample string."; // <---works
char delims[] = " ";
char * pch;
printf ("Splitting string \"%s\" into tokens:\n",str);
pch = strtok (str,delims);
while (pch != NULL)
{
printf ("%s\n",pch);
pch = strtok (NULL, delims);
}
return 0;
I would like modify HTML like
I am <b>Sadi, novice</b> programmer.
to
I am <b>Sadi, learner</b> programmer.
To do it I will search using a string "novice programmer". How can I do it please? Any idea?
Thank you
Sadi
More clarification:
I get some nice reply with possible solution. But please keep posting if you have any idea in mind.
I would like to more clarify the problem just in case anyone missed it. Main post shows the problem as an example scenario.
1) Now the problem is find and replace some string without considering the tags. The tags may shows up within a single word. String may contain multiple word. Tag only appear in the content string or the document. The search phrase never contain any tags.
We can easily remove all tags and do some text operation. But here the another problem shows up.
2) The tags must be preserve, even after replacing the text. That is what the example shows.
Thank you Again for helping
Hi there
I have created a time picker using jquery, using the following code
// Display Time Picker
$('.time').click(function(){
$('.timePicker').remove();
var thisTime = $(this);
var timePicker = '<ul class="timePicker">'
timePicker += '<li>09:00</li>'
timePicker += '<li>09:15</li>'
timePicker += '</ul>'
thisTime.after(timePicker);
$('.timePicker').fadeIn()
$('.timePicker li').click(function(){
term = $(this).html();
$(thisTime).val(term);
$('.timePicker').remove();
});
}).blur(function(){
$('.timePicker').fadeOut();
});
This adds a dropdown scrollable list of times to any input field with the class "time".
This functions as expected in all browsers apart from IE7, where if I scroll the list to choose a time lower down in the list, the list dissapears..
Hope that makes sense, any help would be much appreciated
Many thanks
How can I use PHP to strip out all characters that are NOT alpha, numeric, space, or puncutation?
I've tried the following, but it strip punctuation.
preg_replace("/[^a-zA-Z0-9\s]/", "", $str);
Hi, I'm just wondering how I could remove everything after a certain deliminator in PHP

I'm doing a programming challenge where i need to parse this sequence into my sudoku script.
Need to get the above sequence into 8,5,0,1,4,7,0,0,0,7,0,1,9,3,6,0,0,8.........
I tried re but without success, help is appreciated, thanks.
Mhh, kinda hard to explain with my poor english ;)
So, lets say I have an image, doesnt matter what kind of (gif, jpg, png) with 200x200 pixel size (total area 40000 pixels)
This image have a background, that can be trasparent, or every color (but i know the background-color in advance).
Lets say that in the middle of this image, there is a picture (for keep the example simple lets suppose is a square drawn), of 100x100 pixels (total area 10000 pixels).
I need to know the area percentage that the small square fill inside the image.
So, in i know the full image size and the background-color, there is a way in php/python to scan the image and retrieve that (in short, counting the pixel that are different from the given background)?
In the above example, the result should be 25%
Hi,
I have a string like this:
"user=u123;name=Test;lastname=User"
I want to get a dictionary for this string like this:
user "u123"
name "Test"
lastname "User"
this way I can easely access the data within the string.
I want to do this in C#.
Cheers,
M.
I have this source code where I got it from net tutsplus. I have configured it and made it work in one PHP file. It does work by transferring the original image, but it does not generate to the thumbnails folder.
<?php
$final_width_of_image = 100;
$path_to_image_directory = "../../img/events/" . urldecode($_GET['name']) . "/";
$path_to_thumbs_directory = "../../img/events/" . urldecode($_GET['name']) . "/thumbnails/";
function createThumbnail($filename)
{
if(preg_match('/[.](jpg)$/', $filename))
{
$im = imagecreatefromjpeg($path_to_image_directory . $filename);
}
elseif(preg_match('/[.](gif)$/', $filename))
{
$im = imagecreatefromgif($path_to_image_directory . $filename);
}
elseif(preg_match('/[.](png)$/', $filename))
{
$im = imagecreatefrompng($path_to_image_directory . $filename);
}
$ox = imagesx($im);
$oy = imagesy($im);
$nx = $final_width_of_image;
$ny = floor($oy * ($final_width_of_image / $ox));
$nm = imagecreatetruecolor($nx, $ny);
imagecopyresized($nm, $im, 0,0,0,0,$nx,$ny,$ox,$oy);
imagejpeg($nm, $path_to_thumbs_directory . $filename);
$tn = '<img src="' . $path_to_thumbs_directory . $filename . '" alt="image" />';
echo $tn;
}
if(isset($_FILES['fupload'])) {
if(preg_match('/[.](jpg)|(gif)|(png)$/', $_FILES['fupload']['name'])) {
$filename = $_FILES['fupload']['name'];
$source = $_FILES['fupload']['tmp_name'];
$target = $path_to_image_directory . $filename;
move_uploaded_file($source, $target);
createThumbnail($filename);
}
}
?>
Basically it is supposed to generate a thumbnail of the uploaded image and store the original image into a different folder.
The paths are correct, it works by getting the folder name in the URL, it does work, but nothing works for the thumbnails folder.
BEFORE you ask this related question, yes, thumbnails generation does work on my server by the PHP GD, I have tested it separately. So this is not the problem. :)
How do I get this to work? :(
I have a string like
def data = "session=234567893egshdjchasd&userId=12345673456&timeOut=1800000"
I want to convert it to a map
["session", 234567893egshdjchasd]
["userId", 12345673456]
["timeout", 1800000]
This is the current way I am doing it,
def map = [:]
data.splitEachLine("&"){
it.each{ x ->
def object = x.split("=")
map.put(object[0], object[1])
}
}
It works, but is there a more efficient way?

i am using Struts2 in application.
<s:iterator value="listObject">
<s:component template="abc.vm">
<s:param name="text" value="listValue" />
<s:param name="prefix" value="listIndex" />
</s:component>
</s:iterator>
listValue is a values of list. i am using iterator to traverse the list.
now on listValue, i want to put here internationalization concept.so that all the list value can be display based on Locale which store in a list.
please suggest!
