in HFT trading should I upgrade from Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2012?

I'm using HP DL360p Gen8 + Windows Server 2008 R2 for HFT trading. That means that every 10 microseconds is important for me. I do understand that if I need everything to be so fast I probably should consider using Linux. But in this post I want to compare only Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012. I've found in internet couple articles that suggest how to tune Windows Server 2012 for low latency http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/windows/hardware/jj248719 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831415.aspx Most part of optimizations from these articles apply only to Windows Server 2012 and can not be used on Windows Server 2008 R2. So now I think that as I can optimize Windows Server 2012 for low latency, probaly I should upgrade? After optimizations how much faster windows server 2012 would be (ideally in microseconds :)?

MySQL Replication Error

I recently updated my master server to 5.1.41 and noticed that the slave was no longer replicating. It was returning this erorr: 091208 12:53:31 [ERROR] Slave I/O: error connecting to master '[email protected]:3306' - retry-time: 10 retries: 86400, Error_code: 2026 091208 12:53:41 [ERROR] Slave I/O: error connecting to master '[email protected]:3306' - retry-time: 10 retries: 86400, Error_code: 1045 The first error is apparently an SSL error, followed by auth denied.. Thing is, I haven't touched my SSL key or user access in months (and the key is fine, since I'm using the same one on that machine to replicate from other master servers.. Any ideas? Edit: Months later, I've tried with 5.1.44 and the problem is persisting. When I roll back to 5.1.39 replication works great... I guess I can't use anything newer than 5.1.39....

Does anyone know the correct configuration for my setups? Thank you.

Using Google Talk with a non-apps, non-gmail Google account

I created a Google account with an existing e-mail address from a domain that is NOT hosted by Google. This address is not on an Apps domain and has no gmail service of any kind. Still I am able to add it as a Google account on an Android device with no problem. If the device is running Jelly Bean (where the Google Talk app allows switching between accounts) I can sign in and chat works fine. I can also sign into Talk with this account via the iGoogle home page. Now how can I use this account with a standalone chat client like iChat, Pidgin, or Empathy? It doesn't seem to work with login ID user@example.com using SSL to connect to server talk.google.com (tried ports 5222 and 5223). Are iGoogle and Android doing something magical that no other Jabber client is allowed, or am I just missing a step?

Using naked domain in apache, no "www" on domain in httpd.conf

Incredibly there is no good tutorial or easy reference guide for using naked domains (no subdomain) as the primary URI online that I could find. I'm trying to configure this to happen in my httpd.conf in apache. Since I'm still a relative newb to this server stuff, trying to figure it out myself all I could do was configure some nasty redirect loops and error 400's. There's plenty of notes for the more common: http:// -- https:// and naked to -- www. and a ton of .htaccess stuff (not interested) What I want is http://www.domain.com -- http://domain.com The most helpful thing I found was this: Multiple domains (including www-"subdomain") on apache? I ended using the solution mentioned by ceejayoz in that post that some folks noted was messy and complicated because it got the desired result but I'd like to know the best practice for this in the future. I'd appreciate a nudge in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

Setup LAN to serve webpages and voip and access to the web site from inside LAN with domain name

I'd like to know if it will work: I have my domain and I´m serving a webpage in a nginx to the internet, but if I type my domain in my laptop inside LAN I access to my modem/router configuration, I cannot access to the web server unless I type the IP address. I would like to add a Bind server after the modem/router - (port forward, ports 80 and 5060), if the request is www.mydomain.com bind should resolve the nginx IP address and serve it, and if it is a voip request should address to the voip server and if I'd like to access to the website from inside LAN I'd like to type mydomain.com. Could I do it with this configuration? Do I need something else? Thanks in advace!

I have a Shibboleth SP instance on Server 2008 R2 and everything is authenticating fine with the IdP. I was testing protecting a single page and that is working fine by doing the following in the shibboleth2.xml file: <Host name="MyUrl.com"> <Path name="page.jsp" authType="shibboleth" requireSession="true"/> </Host> When I go to https://MyUrl.com/page.jsp I get redirected to enter credentials, and then end up back on the page.jsp Now I found out that I should be protecting the Document Root, but not the entire site. Basically I need to be authenticated by Shibboleth, and once I am, then I'll get redirected back to the Document Root where a session is set with separate software, I get redirected to a different page and the Document Root will never be used again. Any help is appreciated

Resolving System Restore error - Error 0x800423F3 - The writer experienced a transient error

System restore just stopped working, when I needed it most. (tried diff restore points... same error). Now everytime I run system-restore, it fails with the above error message. I cleared the event logs and retried to isolate the relevant events. I see 5 warnings and 1 info event from VSS and 1 error from System Restore. Sony Vaio CPU fan runs at full speed after installing Windows 8.1 preview

I installed the Windows 8.1 preview on my Sony Vaio E Series 14P (http://www.sony.com.au/product/sve14a27cg) and now my CPU fan is running at full speed all the time. When I first start my computer it runs normally, but a few seconds after reaching the Windows login screen the fan speed will suddenly jump up to max. It's pretty loud, so I'm hoping there's a solution! I've tried updating my bios to the latest version but that didn't help. I've tried programs like SpeedFan, but that wasn't able to detect my CPU fan at all. My CPU usage and temperature is normal and doesn't warrant the max fan speed. I'm setting a local webserver to do a lot of web development work from now on. I'm not really knowledgeable in hosting configuration. Thing is I just added mydomain.com in /etc/hosts that's fine but what's the next step? TI need to use the wildcard on *.mydomain.com, so I'm figuring I need to add my zone in bind, is this correct? so I can make use of virtual hosts in apache and in play-framework Everything will be local, but once in a while I want to make public of my webserver to certain people using the no-ip service, in windows I've done it, in linux I don't know if it's any difference. The question is pretty much if I'm configuring it right or not? If this sounds confusing let me know, I'll try to detail it more

Hello, I have a network of linux server, one of them is running exim4 that server could send users@mydomain.com. At exim4 server, I had setup an alias for the users accounts ...for example root : root@mydomain.com But I have other server, if I put the alias email is marked as spam...since they arent using exim4 server. I want to configure the other server to use that exim4 server, in order to dont get the mails mark as spam. Well I know this is really newbie question, but searching at google is difficult since it confuses exim4 server configuration than the client configuration to use exim4 server. Remember, I want root@server1,root@server2,etc mails send via exim4 server!

I'm trying to research the best placement of wireless APs in a given space, and I'm running into problems in gathering information. I found (what I thought was) a great source in this tech republic article: http://techrepublic.com.com/5206-6230-0.html?forumID=82&threadID=163120 While this diagram seems detailed and overall very informative, there were a lot of comments talking about how it was lacking in things like "wire racks, microwaves, concrete walls, motors..." etc. Maybe I'm rash, but I just sort of looked around my office (which is, albeit, somewhat smaller than the one diagrammed), and went "uhhh, there", and hooked up the AP. It seems to cover everywhere. I imagine if my office quadrupled in size, I'd logically divide it up and put four APs in, with a similar amount of thought devoted to each. So, suppose I had a much more complex office. What tools (both diagramming and surveying) do you use to plan your AP placement?

How can I do Ubuntu Lucid Desktop installation with HTTP preseed file and desktop installation CD?

Installation media: ubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386.iso I tried a lot of different boot parameters, but either the installer ignored the preseed configuration, or it boot itself directly as LiveCD. An example of the boot parameters I've tried: auto url=http://mydomain.com/path/preseed.cfg boot=casper only-ubiquity initrd=/casper/initrd.lz quiet splash -- If I remove only-ubiquity, it boots as a LiveCD. If I remove boot=casper, it won't boot. If I add vga=normal locale=en_US console-setup/layoutcode=us console-setup/ask_detect=false interface=auto, it still can't do automatic install. If I remove auto, it's the same. What am I missing? From the apache log of the server hosting preseed.cfg, I see that the installer has no problems fetching the preseed file. My preseed file is almost identical to the one at https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/installation-guide/example-preseed.txt. Moreover, I have run debconf-set-selections -c preseed.cfg to ensure that the preseed file is correct. Any ideas?

Segmentation Fault (11) with modwsgi on CentOS 5.7 when running pyramid app

I'm getting Segmentation fault error when trying to access the "Hello World" pyramid app. This error only occurs when running against CentOS 5.7 setup, but no problem whatsoever when tested against OSX and Arch Linux. Could it be a CentOS specific issue? [error] [client 10.211.55.2] Premature end of script headers: pyramid.wsgi [notice] child pid 31212 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) I have tried to follow the troubleshooting guides posted here http://code.google.com/p/modwsgi/wiki/InstallationIssues which suggests that it might caused by missing Shared Library. A quick check reveals that shared library is not the issue. uploading a python site to httpdocs?

OK - so we've agreed to host a python site, got the files and not sure where to go next. We use a dedicated server and manage it mainly with plesk which has a tick box for a python support but not sure what this does. This is all the info i have from previous hosts; 10,000 ft overview The site is intended to run on a Linux host, specifically Ubuntu Server (tho it should be fine on most distros). The web framework is CherryPy ( http://cherrypy.org/ ), which is a Python based framework. There is no database as such, instead the data is kept in JS files and loaded by the front end. nicholasbarker.com.c6a4facf0192/www/js/video_content_items.js is a prime example of this. The main site templates are in nicholasbarker.com.c6a4facf0192/www/templates/ They are Cheetah templates ( http://www.cheetahtemplate.org/ ) and here's the file structure i've been sent - Could some explain to me how i'd go about uploading and running this site... SMTP Verb Error on MSExchange Server 2003

Hi, Every morning for the last two weeks or more I've had to reboot our Exchange Server and often I have to reboot it again during the day. We use a smarthost for sending our mail out and if I view the queues on Exhange System Manager the Small Business SMTP Connector is in a retry state with "The connection was dropped due to an SMTP protocol event sink". I turned logging up to maximum on ExchangeTransport and the only non-information event in EventViewer is “Message delivery to the host '62.13.128.187' failed while delivering to the remote domain 'mail.authsmtp.com' for the following reason: The connection was dropped due to an SMTP protocol event sink. The SMTP verb which caused the error is 'x-exps'. The response from the remote server is ''.” I stopped using the smarthost during the error condition and all I got was lots of small business connector connections with the same error. I can telnet into mail.authsmtp.com and send a mail during the error state. Any pointers would be gratefully received.

Install Ubuntu 12.04 in UEFI mode on a HP Pavilion dv6-6c40ca

I have recently (as of July 2012) bought a HP Pavilion dv6-6c40ca laptop. It came pre-installed with Windows 7 on an MBR. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on it on a GPT partition in what I think is BIOS emulation mode. I made a BIOS-Grub partition so the install didn't fail. That is what it is for .. right? Now I want to upgrade to UEFI mode. How would I Install Ubuntu 12.04 in UEFI mode on a HP Pavilion dv6-6c40ca. Or is it impossible? My laptop, despite its new age may not be UEFI 2.0+ capable. If it isn't how can I install a software UEFI (i.e. a DUET such as the one by tianocore). Or is this too impossible? I have partitioned the drive using GParted as a GPT drive. Created a 200MB partition at the beginning of the drive with a FAT32 file system. Given the 200MB partition a label of "EFI". Set the boot flag on the 200MB partition. What should a do next to install Ubuntu 12.04? Excel hyperlink not redirecting properly (bug?)

I don't know is this is the right place to post this questions, but I have an excel hyperlink problem. Here's the thing. I click on let's say "A1", copy the link in it (http://www.godaddy.com/domains/searchresults.aspx?ci=54814), right click on hyperlink and copy that SAME URL as the link (if it is not automatically detected and changed). When I go to click on it, I am readirected to http://www.godaddy.com/domains/search.aspx?ci=53972. If I copy and paste the link directly into the browser, it works fine. Configure FastCGI for Python

I have nginx running on a VM and I want to run a Trac site. I need to run a python FastCGI server, but I cannot tell which is the server to use. I have found the following: <a href="http://redmine.lighttpd.net/projects/spawn-fcgi">Lighttpd spawn-fcgi</a> But this seems to require that you compile lighttpd just to get the fcgi server, which is weird. <a href="http://svn.saddi.com/py-lib/trunk/fcgi.py">fcgi.py</a> But this one seems to be depreciated. Also poorly documented. Are their any recent guides for setting this up. Trac's own FastCGI setup page seems to miss some steps.
