  • UIView subclass draws background despite completely empty drawRect: - why?

    - by Pascal
So, I have a custom UIView subclass which enables drawing of rounded edges. The thing draws perfectly, however the background always fills the whole bounds, despite clipping to a path first. The border also draws above the rectangular background, despite the fact that I draw the border in drawRect: before the background. So I removed the whole content of drawRect:, which is now virtually empty - nevertheless the background gets drawn! Anybody an explanation for this? I set the backgroundColor in Interface Builder. Thanks!

  • Iphone SDk inString Function

    - by Skeep
Hi All, Im trying to write a method that will pull out the ID from a URI String. My code below seems inefficient, what would be a better way of finding the id string? NSString *aID = [[[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"http://www.example.com/id368907840?mt=8&uo=4"] autorelease]; NSArray *arrStr = [aID componentsSeparatedByString:@"/id"]; aID = [arrStr objectAtIndex:1]; arrStr = [aID componentsSeparatedByString:@"?mt="]; aID = [arrStr objectAtIndex:0]; The above leaves me with the NSString = 368907840

  • Adding a button inside an image.

    - by iSharreth
    CGRect frame = CGRectMake(round((self.view.bounds.size.width - kImageWidth) / 2.0), kTopPlacement, kImageWidth, kImageHeight); self.containerView = [[[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:frame] autorelease]; [self.view addSubview:self.containerView]; // create the initial image view frame = CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, kImageWidth, kImageHeight); self.mainView = [[[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:frame] autorelease]; self.mainView.image = [UIImage imageNamed:imagePath]; I want to put a button inside mainview.image. • Solving iPhone/iPad out of memory issues

    - by Joonas Trussmann
I have a strange issue where I'm scrolling through a paged UIScrollView which displays the pages of a PDF document (using Quartz 2D and CATiledLayer). When I page through memory allocation looks fine with it going up with a few initial pages and then keeping it steady as it obviously releases the memory kept for earlier pages. Upon hitting page x (not a certain PDF page or a certain number per se) memory usage goes from a couple of megs to 308 megs and the app crashes. So my question is: how to best try to find what's causing this? The object alloc tool in instruments shows the memory as simply going to malloc. (in huge chunks).

  • iphone/ipad adding adding and removing a subview doesnt work

    - by Mark
Im have a slight amount of trouble adding a new view to my scene, I have the code like this: - (void) showMyDayView { NSLog(@"My Day View was touched"); MyDayViewController *temp = [[MyDayViewController alloc] initWithNibName: @"MyDayView" bundle:nil]; self.myDayViewController = temp; NSLog(@"superview: %@", [[self mainNavView] superview]); [[self mainNavView] removeFromSuperview]; NSLog(@"after removal main: %@", [self mainNavView]); NSLog(@"after removal view: %@", [self view]); NSLog(@"after removal superview: %@", [[self view] superview]); [[[self view] superview] addSubview: [self.myDayViewController view]]; [temp release]; } And when I run this code, the console says "after removal superview: (null)" so when I add the subView to the superview, nothing happens because the superview is null. Any ideas? Thanks Mark

  • Assigning to struct in different class

    - by 4thSpace
I have a struct in ClassA and want to assign it to the same struct in ClassB (the two structs are the same with different names). ClassA and ClassB are view controllers. Basically, I need to pass this struct to another class. However, structs don't seem to be exposed as members, which means I can't access them. Here is ClassA's struct declared in its header file: typedef struct { NSString *startDate; NSString *endDate; NSString *classId; } selectedItemsClassAStruct; selectedItemsClassAStruct selectedItemsClassA; and the same for ClassB (just with ClassA text replaced) It doesn't appear in code hints for ClassB. I see this error if I try to access it: request for member 'selectedItemsClassBStruct' in something not a structure or union How should it be done?

  • iphone calls both if and else at the same time?

    - by David Schiefer
Hi, I need to determine what file type a file is and then perform a certain action for it. this seems to work fine for some types, however all media types such as videos and sound files get mixed up. I determine the file type by doing this: BOOL matchedMP3 = ([[rowValue pathExtension] isEqualToString:@"mp3"]); if (matchedMP3 == YES) { NSLog(@"Matched MP3"); } I do this for various file types and just define an "else" for all the others. Here's the problem though. The iPhone calls them both. Here's what the log reveals: 2010-05-11 18:51:12.421 Test [5113:207] Matched MP3 2010-05-11 18:51:12.449 Test [5113:207] Matched ELSE I've never seen anything like this before. This is my "matchedMP3" function: BOOL matchedMP3 = ([[rowValue pathExtension] isEqualToString:@"mp3"]); if (matchedMP3 == YES) { NSLog(@"Matched MP3"); NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; NSFileManager *manager = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; self.directoryContent = [manager directoryContentsAtPath:documentsDirectory]; NSString *errorMessage = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingString:@"/"]; NSString *urlAddress = [errorMessage stringByAppendingString:rowValue]; MPMoviePlayerController *moviePlayer = [[MPMoviePlayerController alloc] initWithContentURL:[NSURL fileURLWithPath:urlAddress]]; moviePlayer.movieControlMode = MPMovieControlModeDefault; moviePlayer.backgroundColor = [UIColor blackColor]; [moviePlayer play]; } and here's the else statement: else { NSLog(@"Matched ELSE"); [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setObject:rowValue forKey:@"rowValue"]; NSString*rowValue = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] objectForKey:@"rowValue"]; NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; NSFileManager *manager = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; self.directoryContent = [manager directoryContentsAtPath:documentsDirectory]; NSString *errorMessage = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingString:@"/"]; NSString *urlAddress = [errorMessage stringByAppendingString:rowValue]; webViewHeader.prompt = rowValue; [documentViewer setDelegate:self]; NSString *encodedString = [urlAddress stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; //Create a URL object. NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:encodedString]; //URL Requst Object NSURLRequest *requestObj = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:url]; //Load the request in the UIWebView. [documentViewer loadRequest:requestObj]; [navigationController pushViewController:webView animated:YES]; } I can't see a reason why it wouldn't work. What happens is that both the webview and the MediaPlayer toggle their own player, so they overlap and play their sound/video a few secs apart from each other. Any help would be appreciated & thank for you taking the time to read through my code.

  • Items mixed up after scrolling in UITableView

    - by jean
When I scroll in my UITableView, the cells become mixed up. What am I doing wrong? This is my method: - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; } [cell insertSubview:[itemArray objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] atIndex:indexPath.row]; return cell; } Update It now works by using cell.contentView, but now when I select an item, the selected one is overlayed with the content of a different cell...

  • Prevent subview from scrolling in a UIScrollView

    - by jbrennan
I have a UIScrollView subclass with a certain subview I'd like to prevent from scrolling (while all the other subviews scroll as normal). The closest example to this I can think of is UITableView's "index strip" on the right side (look in the Contacts app to see an example). I am guessing this is a subview of the table (scrollview) but it does not move as the user scrolls. I can't seem to make my subview stay put! How can I accomplish this?

  • How does Apple update the Airport menu while it is open? (How to change NSMenu when it is already op

    - by Tegeril
I've got a statusbar item that pops open an NSMenu, and I have a delegate set and it's hooked up correctly (-(void)menuNeedsUpdate:(NSMenu *)menu works fine). That said, that method is setup to be called before the menu is displayed, I need to listen for that and trigger an asynchronous request, later updating the menu while it is open, and I can't figure out how that's supposed to be done. Thanks :)

  • How to check whether Application is Busy or not

    - by Chandan Shetty SP
Hi, I am using "networkActivityIndicatorVisible" in UIApplication for showing network spinning gear in status bar if my WebView( I am setting "networkActivityIndicatorVisible = YES" in "webViewDidStartLoad" and reseting in "webViewDidFinishLoad" ) is busy. It works fine for single UIWebView. For Multiple UIWebViews i have used a "stack" to trace which webview is busy and which one is idle and it is working fine. My question is there is any way to know whether an application is busy or idle in application level(in UIApplication) instead of checking each webview so i can remove stack. Thanks.

  • Map Custom URL protocol to HTTP (using NSURLProtocol?)

    - by Francisco Ryan Tolmasky I
I have an application using a WebKit WebView and I'd like to map URL's that are loaded in this WebView with a custom URL protocol to a different HTTP URL. For example, say I am loading: custom://path/to/resource I would like to internally actually load: http://something-else.com/path/to/resource In other words, the custom protocol serves almost as a shorthand. I can't however use -webView:resource:willSendRequest:redirectResponse:fromDataSource:, because I want WebKit to actually believe this is the URL in question, not to simply redirect from one to the other. So far I've been attempting to use a custom NSURLProtocol subclass. However, this is proving trickier than I first thought because, at least to my understanding, I will have to do the actual loading myself in the NSURLProtocol subclass' startLoading method. I'd like a way to just hand off the work to the existing HTTP protocol loader, but I can't find an easy way to do this. Does anyone have a recommendation for this, or perhaps an alternative way to solve this issue? Thanks!

  • Why would delaying a thread response fix view corruption?

    - by Beth S
6 times out of 10 my very simple iPhone app is getting a corrupted display on launch or crashes randomly. But it behaves fine in the simulator. The display corruption looks like mis-colored fonts, out of place font text, wrong background colors, etc. I've found a strange work-around.. when my thread delays by 2 seconds before calling the "done" notification, everything works swimmingly. The thread reads a web page and the "done" notification loads up a PickerView with strings. So what gives? Can I not safely initiate a threaded task from viewDidLoad? - (void) loadWebPage:(NSString *)urlAddition { NSAutoreleasePool *subPool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; NSString *pageSource; NSError *err; NSString *urlString = [NSString stringWithString:@"http://server/%@", urlAddition]; pageSource = [NSString stringWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString: urlString] encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding error:&err]; [NSThread sleepForTimeInterval:2.0]; // THIS STOPS THE DISPLAY CORRUPTION [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] postNotificationName:@"webDoneNotification" object:nil]; [subPool drain]; } - (void) webDoneNotification: (NSNotification *)pNotification { [mediaArray release]; mediaArray = [[NSArray arrayWithObjects: [NSString stringWithString:@"new pickerview text"], nil] retain]; [mediaPickerView reloadAllComponents]; [mediaPickerView selectRow:0 inComponent:0 animated:NO]; } - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil { mediaArray = [[NSArray arrayWithObjects: [NSString stringWithString:@"init pickerview text"], nil] retain]; if (self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil]) { // Custom initialization } return self; } - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; myWebThread = [[WebThread alloc] initWithDelegate:self]; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(webDoneNotification:) name:@"webDoneNotification" object:nil]; [myWebThread performSelectorInBackground:@selector(loadWebPage:) withObject:@""]; } Thanks! Update: Even a delay of 0.1 seconds is enough to completely fix the problem.

  • Core Data vs SQLite 3

    - by Jason Medeiros
I am already quite familiar with relational databases and have used SQLite (and other databases) in the past. However, Core Data has a certain allure, so I am considering spending some time to learn it for use in my next application. Is there much benefit to using Core Data over SQLite, or vice versa? What are the pros/cons of each? I find it hard to justify the cost of learning Core Data when Apple doesn't use it for many of its flagship applications like Mail.app or iPhoto.app - instead opting for SQLite databases. SQLite is also used extensively on the iPhone. Can those familiar with using both comment on their experience? Perhaps, as with most things, the question is deeper than just using one over the other?

  • More specific NSNumberFormatter failure behaviour

    - by Volte
I have an NSTextField into which I need the user to enter a number between a max and min, and it would be nice if I could detect when the NSNumberFormatter fails that particular test so I can either display a nicer message ("The number is too large" is not very helpful, it needs to display the valid range) or simply set the field automatically to the nearest valid value. I've looked at the NSTextField delegate's -control:didFailToFormatString:errorDescription: method which doesn't seem to allow you to modify the error, and I've looked at overriding the NSNumberFormatter's -getObjectValue:forString:range:error: method which does give me an NSError that I can modify, but there doesn't seem to be any way to determine which specific error was returned. Since I am just entering a simple integer, I don't need most of the functionality in NSNumberFormatter, would I be better off just writing my own formatter from scratch?

  • Is garbage collection supported for iPhone applications?

    - by Mustafa
Does the iPhone support garbage collection? If it does, then what are the alternate ways to perform the operations that are performaed using +alloc and -init combination: NSXMLParser *xmlParser = [[NSXMLParser alloc] initWithData:xmlData]; UIImage *originalImage = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:data]; detailViewController = [[[DetailViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"DetailView bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]] autorelease]; ... and other commands. Thank you in advance for any help or direction that you can provide.

  • set Image to Button

    - by Ivan
    Hello all, Could somebody help me a little bit with my issue below? When I call the myFunction, images which I want to set to buttons appear after 2 sec simultaneously, not one by one with delay of 0.5 sec. More info: generatedNumbers is array with four elements of NSNumber (4,1,3,2) buttons are set in UIView via IB and are tagged (1,2,3,4) -(IBAction) myFunction:(id) sender { int i, value; for (i = 0; i<[generatedNumbers count]; i++) { value = [[generatedNumbers objectAtIndex:i] intValue]; UIButton *button = (UIButton *)[self.view viewWithTag:i+1]; UIImage *img = [UIImage imageNamed:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d.png",value]]; [button setImage:img forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [img release]; usleep(500000); } }

  • jerky scrolling in NSTableView

    - by Saurabh
Hello All, I have a NSTableView with around 70 - 80 rows, each row contain a checkbox, title text and a drop down menu to select data. The problem i am facing is that when i scroll the table it does not scroll smooth. When i remove the NSComboBoxCell it works ok. Here is the code i used to add NSComboBoxCell - NSTableColumn* checkColumn = [tblEditData tableColumnWithIdentifier:@"Timer"]; NSCell *aCell = [aTableColumn dataCellForRow:rowIndex]; [aCell setState:3]; NSComboBoxCell *comboBoxCell = [NSComboBoxCell new]; [comboBoxCell addItemWithObjectValue:@"Timer"]; [comboBoxCell addItemWithObjectValue:@"1"]; [comboBoxCell addItemWithObjectValue:@"3"]; [comboBoxCell addItemWithObjectValue:@"6"]; [comboBoxCell addItemWithObjectValue:@"9"]; [comboBoxCell addItemWithObjectValue:@"12"]; [comboBoxCell setStringValue:aDataRow1.timer_val]; [checkColumn setDataCell:comboBoxCell]; return comboBoxCell; Please advice what should i do to remove the jerky scrolling.
