• How can I programmically construct the object reference?

  Lets just say that I have three textboxes: TextBox1, TextBox2, TextBox3. Normally if I wanted to change the text for example I would put TextBox1.Text = "Whatever" and so on. For what I'm doing right now I would like to something like (TextBox & "i").Text. That obviously isn't the syntax I need to use I'm just using it as an example for what I need to do. So how can I do something like this? The main reason I'm doing this is to reduce code with a loop. Please keep in mind that I'm not actually changing the text of the textboxes I'm simply using that as an example to get the point across.

• Select a data template by item type programatically in WPF

  Hi all, unfortunately the WPF ToolbarTray does not support binding to a collection of ToolbarViewModels (Correct me, if I'm wrong). Thus I want to create the Toolbars programmatically. So there are two tasks, which I don't know how to do: Select the data template based on the item type. Instantiate the data template as toolbar Both should do the same as WPF does, when we use ItemsControl with an enumerable content and empty template. I used reflector to anaylse what WPF does. Task 1 is done by FrameworkElement.FindTemplateResourceInternal, but this is internal, and I couldn't find any public methods to acomplish the task. Of course one could enumerate all resources and match the data template data type property, but this seems sub-optimal. Who know's how to acomplish these tasks?

• ASP.NET SqlDataSource update and create FK reference

  The short version: I have a grid view bound to a data source which has a SelectCommand with a left join in it because the FK can be null. On Update I want to create a record in the FK table if the FK is null and then update the parent table with the new records ID. Is this possible to do with just SqlDataSources? The detailed version: I have two tables: Company and Address. The column Company.AddressId can be null. On my ascx page I am using a SqlDataSource to select a left join of company and address and a GridView to display the results. By having my UpdateCommand and DeleteCommand of the SqlDataSource execute two statements separated by a semi-colon I am able to use the GridView's Edit and Delete functionality to update both table simultaneously. The problem I have is when the Company.AddressId is null. What I need to have happen is have the data source create a record in the Address table and then update the Company table with the new Address.ID then proceed with the update as usual. I would like to do this with just data sources if possible for consistency/simplicity sake. Is it possible to have my data source do this, or perhaps add a second data source to the page to handle some of this? Once I have that working I can probably figure out how to make it work with the InsertCommand as well but if you are on a roll and have an answer for how to make that fly as well feel free to provide it.   Oftentimes I want to bring up a system class in a source view, so that I can browse the properties and methods exposed by the class in a source view. Below is the screenshot of what I mean: Usually I do this by selecting the class name and pressing F12 (or right clickGo To Definition). However, if I haven't got it anywhere ready, i have type it up and then do Go To Definition. Most of the time I have to delete what I typed later on. Is there a way to bring up this view without having to type the class name? The VS2010 Navigate To dialog doesn't support this.

  I am building a class library and using its default namespace as "System". There suppose I am creating a generic data structure say PriorityQueue and putting it under System.Collections.Generic namespace. Now when I am referencing that library from another project, I can't see PriorityQueue under "System.Collections.Generic" namespace anymore. Though the library is referenced in that project I can not access any of the classes in it. My question was mscorlib and System.dll share similar namespaces, but still classes from both the assembly is accessible, but why can't mine? If I put a public class under System.Collections.Generic namespace in my class library and refer that library in a project and use a statement like "using System.Collections.Generic", still why I can't access my class there? This was an experimentation I did, I know using System namespace is not encouraged in custom class library, but I want to know the reason behind why I can't access my class in this special case? Please someone shed some light on it. PS: Last time I asked similar question but put it wrongly, so people got misunderstood and I didn't get my answer. This time I am trying to put it correctly as far as I can. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

  I wanted to use something like this: if(x==5) { var mydb= ........ ; } else { var mydb = ........ ; } but it didn't work because I can't declare a variable inside if statement. So I tried to do this: var mydb; if (x==5) { mydb= ............. ; } else { mydb=.............; } but id didn't work either because I had to initialize the variable (mydb). So the question is: I don't necessarily know the type of the variable, can I declare it anyway and then change the type inside the if statement?

• saving a records containing a member of type string to a file (Delphi, Windows)

  I have a record that looks similar to: type TNote = record Title : string; Note : string; Index : integer; end; Simple. The reason I chose to set the variables as string (as opposed to an array of chars) is that I have no idea how long those strings are going to be. They can be 1 char long, 200 or 2000. Of course when I try to save the record to a type file (file of...) the compiler complains that I have to give a size to string. Is there a way to overcome this? or a way to save those records to an untyped file and still maintain a sort of searchable way? Please do not point me to possible solutions, if you know the solution please post code. Thank you

I am looking to try to get a social network site up and running on Ruby on Rails and was looking at RailsSpace: Building a Social Networking Website with Ruby on Rails (Addison-Wesley Professional Ruby Series) - Paperback (July 30, 2007) by Michael Hartl. This was published in 2007, however, and the newer reviews say it is not very helpful. Does anyone know if there are any new publications out there that walk you through building a social network site while teaching you the code(rather than just using a out of the box program)? Thanks

  Hi, I'm using the a wrapper around the PHP5-class DOMDocument to generate my HTML. This makes it easy to modify the HTML by using the DOM. An example is creating element #1 and adding it to the element #2 and still be able to modify element #1 directly.   All: I want to use kdiff to merge all files with a certain suffix (say *.c, *.h) and I want to do two things (turn off premerge and use internal:other) for all files with another suffix (say *.mdl). The purpose of this is to allow me to employ a type of 'clobber merge' for a specific file type (ie: un-mergable files like configurations, auto-generated C, models, etc..) In my .hgrc I've tried: [merge-tools] kdiff3= clobbermerge=internal:other clobbermerge.premerge = False [merge-patterns] **.c = kdiff3 **.h = kdiff3 **.mdl = clobbermerge but it still triggers kdiff3 for all files. Thoughts? An extension of this would be to perform a 'clobber merge' on a directory - but once the syntax is clear for a file suffix, the dir should be easy.

  While trying to come-up with a servlet based application to read files and manipulate them (image type conversion) here is a question that came up to me: Is it possible to inspect a file content and know the filetype? Is there a standard that specifies that each file MUST provide some type of marker in their content so that the application will not have to rely on the file extension constraints? Consider an application scenario: I am creating an application that will be able to convert different file formats to a set of output formats. Say user uploads an PDF, my application can suggest that the possible conversion formats are microsoft word or TIFF or JPEG etc. As my application will gradually support different file formats (over a period of time), I want my application to inspect the input file instead of having the user to specify the format. And suggest to user the possible formats of output. I understand this is an open ended, broad question. Please let me know if it needs to be modified. Thanks, Ayusman

• if a JAR is placed on app servers's classpath how do we reference it from JSP

  On our application we are getting an error saying: PWC6117: File "/struts-tags" not found code in the file thats giving error is: <%@ taglib prefix="s" uri="/struts-tags" %> This file is in struts2-core.jar which is placed on the classpath of the app server (Sun 9.1). The code will work fine and not complain when the jar is actually in WEB-INF/lib of the application, compared to being on classpath of the appserver. But we can not change that. it has to be on appservers classpath. But how should we change our code so that this error goes away? I can create mapping in my web.xml so that tag uri's are change. but what should taglib-location be changed to? so that it references to app servers classpath? <taglib> <taglib-uri>/WEB-INF/struts-tags.tld</taglib-uri> <taglib-location>/WEB-INF/struts-tags.tld</taglib-location> </taglib>

• Constructor type not found

  Hello, What I am doing: I am taking the Microsoft Enterprise Library 4.1 and attempting to expand upon it using a few derived classes. I have created a MyLogEntry, MyFormatter, and MyTraceListener which derive from their respective base classes when you remove the "My" from their names. What my problem is: Everything compiles fine. When I go to run a test using Logger.Write(logEntry) it errors right after it initializes MyTraceListener with an error message: "The current build operation (... EnterpriseLibrary.Logging.LogWriter, null]) failed: Constructor on type 'MyLogging.MyFormatter' not found. (Strategy type ConfiguredObjectStrategy, index 2) I figured it was something to do with the constructor so I tried removing it, add it, and adding a call to the base class LogFormatter. Nothing has worked. Does anyone have insight into this problem? Is it maybe a reference issue? Bad App.config configuration? Thank you in advance
