  • Can a Perl subroutine return data but keep processing?

    Is there any way to have a subroutine send data back while still processing? For instance (this example used simply to illustrate) - a subroutine reads a file. While it is reading through the file, if some condition is met, then "return" that line and keep processing. I know there are those that will answer - why would you want to do that? and why don't you just ...?, but I really would like to know if this is possible. Thank you so much in advance.

    I am looking for an online OCR website for processing a multi-page pdf file at one time. Free preferably. I know http://www.newocr.com/. If I am correct, it can only OCR one page at a time, by manually clicking "Preview" and then clicking "OCR" for each page. After each page is OCRed, I have to copy out the text result manually too. If my pdf file has 30~ pages, it will be tedious to repeat the above process for each page. I wonder if there is some other online websites that OCR a whole pdf file, without asking me for manual operation? Thanks!

    I'm batch transcoding some 50 GB of video files on a USB hard disk which is connected to a wlan router. The drive is mapped as a network drive on my Windows 7 laptop. The speed handicap of the wlan causes some parts of the processing to become unnecessarily slow, so I would like to do the following with PowerShell: List the names of the files on the network drive to be transcoded Copy the first file to a temporary folder on my laptop Simultaneously Transcode the file in the folder Begin copying the next file from the network drive to the temporary folder After transcoding and copy have both ended, Delete the file which has been transcoded from the temporary folder Begin transcoding next file in the temporary folder Loop until all files have been processed How would I be able to do this with PowerShell? The multitasking part is an obstacle for my skill/persistence combination.

    Does anybody know of any modules that provide the functionality to write python or PHP code to run as hooks in the Apache request processing pipeline? For instance, mod_perl lets me write PerlModules, which can contain handlers for the header parsing phase, content delivery, and even filters. I would like to do something similar in other scripting languages. I could write it in C, but the goal is to deploy a module that would work across a number of systems. If I deliver it as binary in C, then it would require 64/32-bit versions and some other issues. With perl, I can just require certain modules installed and mod_perl2.

    At work we use SAS to manipulte large amounts of data everyday on our workstations. To give an indication of scale the largest merges we had to do was merging 24 files of 2GB in size each together into one big file (if you are familiar with SAS the files are binary compressed too!). If we upgrade our PCs to core i7 then which of Core i7 975 or Core i7 960 is better? The main difference between the two seems to be QPI. So does that affect large scale data processing such as merge datasets in SAS?

  • Unable to install Konstruktor program

    I've recently switched to Linux, having a good knowledge of how it works before switching, since I've had experience working with Ubuntu-based servers for several months. I've been trying to install a LEGO CAD program that I have found based on an open source library. Information on that is here. The program I'm looking at is called Konstruktor, and for the most part it should be working. One dependency however does not seem to be able to install. The missing dependency is "kdelibs5", which I know what it is and what it's for, but can't get it to install.   • Chrome and Firefox not able to find some sites after Ubuntu's recent update?

    Loading of revision3.com in Chrome stops and status saying "waiting for static.inplay.tubemogul.com" grooveshark.com in Chrome never loads But wikipedia.org, google.com works just normal same behavior in Firefox too. I use wired DSL connection in Ubuntu 12.04. I guess this started happening after I upgraded the Chrome browser or Flash plugin few days ago from Ubuntu updates through update-manager. Thanks EDIT: Everything works normal in my WinXP. Problem is only in Ubuntu 12.04.   • Eclipse Maven web application - can not run on server anymore

    I have an maven eclipse webapp project that I was able to right click and 'Run on server' and it would deploy on tomcat. I recently did a 'maven - Update project conifgurations' and I now can NOT deploy and run the project as a webapp. Has anyone seen this before?     I'm trying to use unix user/group database as security realm of hudson. The linux server is using NIS for user management. My account could login the hudson server via ssh. And the hudson server is running by user 'hudson' that is also a member of group 'shadow', so hudson could read /etc/shadow.
