  • Debugging matchit plugin in vim (under Cygwin)

    - by system PAUSE
The "matchit" plugin for vim is supposed to allow you to use the % key to jump between matching start/end tags when editing HTML, as well as /* and */ comment delimiters when editing other kinds of code. I've followed the exact instructions in ":help matchit", but % still doesn't work for me. It seems silly to ask "Why doesn't this work?" so instead I'm asking How can I diagnose the problem? Pointers to references are welcome, but specific vim-plugin-debugging techniques are preferred. Here is the ~/.vim directory: $ ls -ltaGR ~/.vim /cygdrive/y/.vim: total 0 drwxr-xr-x 1 spause 0 Sep 17 13:20 .. drwxr-xr-x 1 spause 0 Sep 16 13:59 doc drwxr-xr-x 1 spause 0 Sep 16 13:58 . drwxr-xr-x 1 spause 0 Sep 16 13:58 plugin /cygdrive/y/.vim/doc: total 24 -rw-r--r-- 1 spause 1961 Sep 16 13:59 tags drwxr-xr-x 1 spause 0 Sep 16 13:59 . -rw-r--r-- 1 spause 19303 Sep 16 13:58 matchit.txt drwxr-xr-x 1 spause 0 Sep 16 13:58 .. /cygdrive/y/.vim/plugin: total 32 drwxr-xr-x 1 spause 0 Sep 16 13:58 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 spause 30714 Sep 16 13:58 matchit.vim drwxr-xr-x 1 spause 0 Sep 16 13:58 . I am running vim 7.2 under Cygwin (installed Fall 2008). cygcheck shows: 1829k 2008/06/12 C:\cygwin\bin\cygwin1.dll Cygwin DLL version info: DLL version: 1.5.25 DLL epoch: 19 DLL bad signal mask: 19005 DLL old termios: 5 DLL malloc env: 28 API major: 0 API minor: 156 Shared data: 4 DLL identifier: cygwin1 Mount registry: 2 Cygnus registry name: Cygnus Solutions Cygwin registry name: Cygwin Program options name: Program Options Cygwin mount registry name: mounts v2 Cygdrive flags: cygdrive flags Cygdrive prefix: cygdrive prefix Cygdrive default prefix: Build date: Thu Jun 12 19:34:46 CEST 2008 CVS tag: cr-0x5f1 Shared id: cygwin1S4 In vim, :set shows: --- Options --- autoindent fileformat=dos shiftwidth=3 background=dark filetype=html syntax=html cedit=^F scroll=24 tabstop=3 expandtab shelltemp textmode viminfo='20,<50,s10,h Notably, the syntax and filetype are both recognized as HTML. I'm now looking through :help matchit-debug to find out how to fix b:match_words.

  • Cygwin vim doesn't load files in runtimepath

    - by durron597
    I created a custom syntax file, and but none of the files in $VIMRUNTIME seem to load. I followed these pieces of the documentation: http://vimdoc.sourceforge.net/htmldoc/filetype.html#new-filetype http://vimdoc.sourceforge.net/htmldoc/syntax.html#mysyntaxfile When I do :echo &runtimepath I get: /home/durron597/.vim,/usr/share/vim/vimfiles,/usr/share/vim/vim73,/usr/share/vim/vimfiles/after,/home/durron597/.vim/after However, if I open a file with vim -D, here's the listed files as I type f: /etc/vimrc /home/durron597/.vimrc /usr/share/vim/vim73/plugin/getscriptPlugin.vim /usr/share/vim/vim73/plugin/gzip.vim /usr/share/vim/vim73/plugin/matchparen.vim /usr/share/vim/vim73/plugin/netrwPlugin.vim /usr/share/vim/vim73/plugin/rrhelper.vim /usr/share/vim/vim73/plugin/spellfile.vim /usr/share/vim/vim73/plugin/tarPlugin.vim /usr/share/vim/vim73/plugin/tohtml.vim /usr/share/vim/vim73/plugin/vimballPlugin.vim /usr/share/vim/vim73/plugin/zipPlugin.vim Here's the output of ls -lR durron597@Durron597 ~/.vim $ ls -lR .: total 0 drwxr-xr-x+ 1 durron597 None 0 Jun 3 11:06 ftdetect drwxr-xr-x+ 1 durron597 None 0 Jun 3 11:06 syntax ./ftdetect: total 1.0K -rw-r--r-- 1 durron597 None 45 Jun 3 11:06 mytype.vim ./syntax: total 4.0K -rw-r--r-- 1 durron597 None 740 Jun 3 11:06 mytype.vim The exact exact paths are: /home/durron597/.vim/ftdetect/mytype.vim /home/durron597/.vim/syntax/mytype.vim Note: the problem is that these files don't seem to be loaded at all, not that these files have internal mistakes Output of :filetype filetype detection:ON plugin:ON indent:OFF Edit 3: No, really, the files are in the right place: $ find /home -name '*.vim' /home/durron597/.vim /home/durron597/.vim/ftdetect/fix.vim /home/durron597/.vim/syntax/fix.vim

  • Why isn't the scripts in my autoload folder being executed in Vim?

    - by Codemonkey
    I'm trying to use Pathogen to manage my Vim extensions. My bundle folder looks like this: .../bundle/ +-- vim-pathogen ¦   +-- autoload ¦   +-- pathogen.vim +-- vim-smoothscroll +-- autoload +-- smooth_scroll.vim And my vimrc file includes this: let s:root = fnamemodify(resolve(expand(":p")), ":h") " Initiate pathogen. exec "source " . s:root . "/vimfiles/bundle/vim-pathogen/autoload/pathogen.vim" exec pathogen#infect() My vimrc file is a symlink located in ~ but pointing to a folder inside my Dropbox folder. This appears to work when I start Vim. Pathogen has added vim-smoothscroll to my runtimepath: :set runtimepath? runtimepath=~/Dropbox/Personal/config_sync/vim/vimfiles,~/Dropbox/Personal/config_sync/vim/vimfiles/bundle/vim-p athogen,~/Dropbox/Personal/config_sync/vim/vimfiles/bundle/vim-smoothscroll,~/.vim,~/vim/share/vim/vimfiles,~/vim/ share/vim/vim74,~/vim/share/vim/vimfiles/after,~/.vim/after The problem is that the script smooth_scroll.vim hasn't been loaded: 1: ~/.vimrc 2: ~/Dropbox/Personal/config_sync/vim/vimfiles/bundle/vim-pathogen/autoload/pathogen.vim 3: ~/vim/share/vim/vim74/syntax/syntax.vim 4: ~/vim/share/vim/vim74/syntax/synload.vim 5: ~/vim/share/vim/vim74/syntax/syncolor.vim 6: ~/vim/share/vim/vim74/filetype.vim 7: ~/vim/share/vim/vim74/menu.vim 8: ~/vim/share/vim/vim74/autoload/paste.vim 9: ~/Dropbox/Personal/config_sync/vim/vimfiles/colors/codeschool.vim 10: ~/Dropbox/Personal/config_sync/vim/_vimrc_gui 11: ~/Dropbox/Personal/config_sync/vim/_vimrc_keybinds 12: ~/vim/share/vim/vim74/plugin/getscriptPlugin.vim 13: ~/vim/share/vim/vim74/plugin/gzip.vim 14: ~/vim/share/vim/vim74/plugin/matchparen.vim 15: ~/vim/share/vim/vim74/plugin/netrwPlugin.vim 16: ~/vim/share/vim/vim74/plugin/rrhelper.vim 17: ~/vim/share/vim/vim74/plugin/spellfile.vim 18: ~/vim/share/vim/vim74/plugin/tarPlugin.vim 19: ~/vim/share/vim/vim74/plugin/tohtml.vim 20: ~/vim/share/vim/vim74/plugin/vimballPlugin.vim 21: ~/vim/share/vim/vim74/plugin/zipPlugin.vim 22: ~/vim/share/vim/vim74/syntax/ruby.vim 23: ~/vim/share/vim/vim74/syntax/vim.vim 24: ~/vim/share/vim/vim74/syntax/python.vim Why is that? Loading the script manually works fine.

  • Vim: Use different ~/.vim/plugin/ directories for different versions of vim?

    - by Stefan Lasiewski
Like many of you, my custom Vim configuration is stored in my ~/.vimrc, with the plugins, colors, etc. stored under ~/.vim/plugins, ~/.vim/colors, etc. I want to share a single Vim configuration among many servers. Some of these servers run Vim 7, some run the older Vim 6. Most Vim plugins are intended for Vim 7, but older versions still exist for those of us on older systems. See DirDiff for an example. If I am on a system which runs Vim 6, how can I configure Vim to only use Vim 6-compatible plugins? I was thinking about storing older plugins in a subdirectory like ~/.vim/plugins6/ and keep the Vim plugins in ~/.vim/plugins, but then how can I tell Vim6 to ignore ~/.vim/plugins and use ~/.vim/plugins6 instead?

  • rails gem permissions problem (tabs on rails)

    - by aguynamedloren
    I'm having trouble running a gem, tabs on rails -v=1.3.2, in my rails 2.3.8 app. The gem is installed locally (Ubuntu 10.10) and I have config.gem "tabs_on_rails", :version="1.3.2" in environment.rb. This is the output I get when I run script/server: loren@ubuntu:~/apps/medmentum$ script/server => Booting WEBrick => Rails 2.3.8 application starting on http://0.0.0.0:3000 no such file to load -- tabs_on_rails /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:36:in `gem_original_require' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:36:in `require' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.8/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.8/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:521:in `new_constants_in' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.8/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/rails/gem_dependency.rb:215:in `load' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/initializer.rb:307:in `load_gems' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/initializer.rb:307:in `each' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/initializer.rb:307:in `load_gems' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/initializer.rb:164:in `process' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/initializer.rb:113:in `send' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/initializer.rb:113:in `run' /home/loren/apps/medmentum/config/environment.rb:11 /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `gem_original_require' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `require' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.8/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.8/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:521:in `new_constants_in' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.8/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/commands/server.rb:84 /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `gem_original_require' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `require' script/server:3 /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/rails/plugin.rb:158:in `read': Permission denied - /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/tabs_on_rails-1.3.2/rails/init.rb (Errno::EACCES) from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/rails/plugin.rb:158:in `evaluate_init_rb' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.8/lib/active_support/core_ext/kernel/reporting.rb:11:in `silence_warnings' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/rails/plugin.rb:154:in `evaluate_init_rb' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/rails/plugin.rb:48:in `load' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/rails/plugin/loader.rb:38:in `load_plugins' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/rails/plugin/loader.rb:37:in `each' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/rails/plugin/loader.rb:37:in `load_plugins' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/initializer.rb:369:in `load_plugins' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/initializer.rb:165:in `process' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/initializer.rb:113:in `send' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/initializer.rb:113:in `run' from /home/loren/apps/medmentum/config/environment.rb:11 from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `gem_original_require' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `require' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.8/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.8/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:521:in `new_constants_in' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.8/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/commands/server.rb:84 from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `gem_original_require' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `require' from script/server:3 When I run rake gems:install, I get this: Permission denied - /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/tabs_on_rails-1.3.2/rails/init.rb I navigated to the tabs_on_rails gem folder in the filesystem and all of the files are locked. Any help is very much appreciated!

  • Ruby on Rails: url_for :back leads to NoMethodError for back_url

    - by Platinum Azure
Hi all, I'm trying to use url_for(:back) to create a redirect leading back to a previous page upon a user's logging in. I've had it working successfully for when the user just goes to the login page on his or her own. However, when the user is redirected to the login page due to accessing a page requiring that the user be authenticated, the redirect sends the user back to the page before the one s/he had tried to access with insufficient permissions. I'm trying to modify my login controller action to deal with the redirect properly. My plan is to have a query string parameter "redirect" that is used when a forced redirect occurs. In the controller, if that parameter exists that URL is used; otherwise, url_for(:back) is used, or if that doesn't work (due to lack of HTTP_REFERER), then the user is redirected to the site's home page. Here is the code snippet which is supposed to implement this logic: if params[:redirect] @url = params[:redirect] else @url = url_for :back @url ||= url_for :controller => "home", :action => "index" end The error I get is: NoMethodError in UsersController#login undefined method `back_url' for # RAILS_ROOT: [obscured] Application Trace | Framework Trace | Full Trace • Copying text from Vim to something else without clipboard support of Vim

    - by edem
I've tried to copy text from Vim window to somewhere but it doesn't work. Decisions which I've found with google didn't help too. For instance, using the registers "* and "+. Command vim version is (Ubuntu 12.04. Vim 7.3): vim --version | grep clipboard -clientserver -clipboard +cmdline_compl +cmdline_hist +cmdline_info +comments -xterm_clipboard -xterm_save Can you help me to solve it? Should I use other vim version or are there any methods to copy text from Vim to something else?

  • How to test Rails 3 Engines with Cucumber & Rspec?

    - by cowboycoded
I apologize if this question is slightly subjective... I am trying to figure out the best way to test Rails 3 Engines with Cucumber & Rspec. In order to test the engine a rails 3 app is necessary. Here is what I am currently doing: Add a rails test app to the root of the gem (myengine) by running: rails new /myengine/rails_app Add Cucumber to /myengine/rails_app/features as you would in a normal Rails app Require the Rails Engine Gem (using :path=>"/myengine") in /myengine/rails_app/Gemfile Add spec to the root directory of the gem: /myengine/spec Include the fixtures in /myengine/spec/fixtures and I add the following to my cuc env.rb: env.rb: Fixtures.reset_cache fixtures_folder = File.join(Rails.root, 'spec', 'fixtures') fixtures = Dir[File.join(fixtures_folder, '*.yml')].map {|f| File.basename(f, '.yml') } Fixtures.create_fixtures(fixtures_folder, fixtures) Do you see any problems with setting it up like this? The tests run fine, but I am a bit hesitant to put the features inside the test rails app. I originally tried putting the features in the root of the gem and I created the test rails app inside features/support, but for some reason my engine would not initialize when I ran the tests, even though I could see the app loading everything else when cuc ran. If anyone is working with Rails Engines and is using cuc and rspec for testing, I would be interested to hear your setup.

  • vim + Ruby on Rails: how do you bounce among those 4-5 files you're currently working on?

    - by glitch
I'm just starting to get familiar with vim, and I'd like to use it as my primary Rails development tool. As a Visual Studio and RubyMine user, I find a lot of stuff to be missing from the barebones vim installation, and therefore I went ahead and attempted to soup it up with plugins such as: rails.vim tcomment ruby-vim NERDtree and a couple of others. The issue is that I still don't quite get the average work-flow of using vim as one's Rails IDE. In RubyMine (again, similarly to Visual Studio) I have a series of tabs always open, containing the main files I'm switching among, and I additionally use NERDtree to open files from the folder structure. I tried opening them as new tabs, but the tab system in vim is just a lot more awkward than that in real IDEs. (I haven't seen vim pros in action, but I imagine that they'd not be relying on tabs, but using numerous splits instead, keeping at least a couple of files per split and switching between them with CTRL + ^. Is that the case?) So, at the end of the day, how do I really squeeze the most from vim if I want to be able to quickly access several files at once? Thank you!

  • Vim: How to Install Airline?

    - by MunkyCheez
I'm just getting started with Vim. It's a fun experience, but I've found it to be kind of overwhelming. I'm trying to get this plugin installed, vim-airline, but I'm having a lot of trouble. The Installation section on the Github page simply states: copy all of the files into your ~/.vim directory Presumably, this means download the .zip, extract it, and copy all of those files into ~/.vim/. I did this, but Vim just starts up like normal, and running :help airline just gives: Sorry, no help for airline I assume that this means it isn't getting installed. Also, the statusbar remains the same. I'm new to Vim and would really like to get this working. Thanks in advance! EDIT: I also tried putting the files into /usr/share/vim/vim73/. No dice. EDIT 2: I ran :helptags ~/.vim/doc and now the help-page displays when I type :help airline, but I'm still not getting the plugin itself (the status bar). Vim looks the same, but it can now display the help page.

  • installing plugins in vim

    - by Ying
I had a real difficulty installing vim plugins on mac. I know for a plugin to be installed it has to be seen by runtimepath. According to vim docs, this is Macintosh: "$VIM:vimfiles, $VIMRUNTIME, $VIM:vimfiles:after" First off, what does $VIM:vimfiles mean?? It is certainly not $VIM/vimfiles, as (~/.vim/vimfiles) does not work. So my options are 1) put my plugin in /usr/share/vim/vim73 (my $VIMRUNTIME, which i know to be BAD) 2) find a way to make vim look at my home directory when including plugins. I have putting my plugin in: ~/.vim/plugin.vim ~/.vim/vimfiles/plugin.vim ~/.vim/plugin/plugin.vim All to no avail. Can somebody help me out here? Thanks!

  • Good ergonomic keyboards for ruby/rails programmer using vim (on Mac) [closed]

    - by Brand
I'm looking to buy an ergonomic keyboard but I'm unable to find answers for my specific needs. I'm a programmer so I need to be able to have quick/easy access to my curly brace and bracket keys. I use vim extensively so having the ctrl and esc keys in a easier to reach location would help. I'm also a mac user (doing ruby/rails dev). With all these things in mind, what are some good options for ergonomic keyboards? I'm afraid someone will see this as "off topic" but please realize I need to ask fellow programmers. For example, I was thinking of the Kinesis Keyboard but read some reviews saying it's not good for programming. That's when I realized other programmers would be the best at answering this question.

  • How to setup VIM for php development?

    - by Ashwin kumar
I have been trying a lot (but not smartly) to figure out setting up VIM, ctags, omnicomple for PHP development. On Googling I found this file. But have no clue how to use it. What have I done until now? Here it is: I am on Fedora 17 64-bit OS Logged in as root Found my VIM version to be VIM - Vi IMproved 7.3 (2010 Aug 15, compiled May 8 2012 15:05:51) Followed the install details as here http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=3171 install details Place in $HOME/.vim/autoload/phpcomplete.vim and enable the php ftplugin What else I am missing? How do I start using omnicomplete. (this is the first time I am using omnicomplete) Why didn't I try IDE's? I have a single core machine running LAMP stack. Didn't wanted to slow down everything and hence sticking to command line environment.

  • How to force reload all vendor/plugins in rails 2.3 (development mode)

    - by tsdbrown
We have an application with a app/model that references another model stored in a plugin. When the app/model level is reloaded on the second and further requests and that relies on our model in vendor/plugins/... (which stays loaded) it fails (can't dup nil class). We've tried setting config.reload_plugins = true in the development.rb but this doesn't seem to do it. Does anybody know a way to handle this?

  • Vim - dynamic list of open buffers in a window

    - by asfallows
I've investigated a few ways to maintain a list of open buffers in Vim, and some of them are very good, but none of them seem to behave the way I'd like. It's very possible that nothing like what I want exists, and it can't hurt to ask. I've been using NERDTree in GVim, and I like the idea of putting the information in a slender left-hand window. I've put together a handy diagram for how I'd like my environment to look: |--------|---------------------------------------| | | | | | | |NERDTree| Windows | | | | | | | | | | |--------| | | | | | | | | List | | | of | | | Open | | | Buffers| | | | | | | | |--------|---------------------------------------| So my question is: Is there a vim-native or plugin-enabled way to maintain a list of currently open buffers and select/edit/close from that list, inside a window similar to NERDTree? I understand that this approach may be incongruous with the Vim way of doing things, and if you feel like I'm missing something about how to manage multiple files in a Vim session, please leave a comment with suggestions!

  • Install vim offline

    - by rosemary
I have Ubuntu 12.04.02 desktop in my college Lab of around 15 pcs with no internet connection. I used to install packages : sudo apt-get install vim It was just fine. But, now I want to install vim locally(i.e.,using a pendrive or CD drive). Where and how can I accomplish this,as I am new to it. Through googling, I could get some sites offering packages, but I have merely any idea on how to carry on: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/precise/+source/vim http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/package/core/precise/main/base/vim http://pkgs.org/ubuntu-12.04/ubuntu-main-i386/vim-gnome_7.3.429-2ubuntu2_i386.deb.html What should I exactly download and where to store it in my ubuntu machine and run commands to properly install vim offline? Any word of advice is appreciated!

  • Vim conceal feature is applied to active line

    - by akxlr
I am using MacVim with the vim-latex plugin. There is a conceal feature turned on by default that converts LaTeX symbols to unicode in vim itself so the source is easier to read. I think this is supposed to turn off on the active line (under the cursor) but this isn't happening, meaning I can't edit the code in parts. Is there a way to make the conceal feature only apply for inactive lines? Otherwise, how do I turn it off?

  • VIM: Close file without quiting VIM application?

    - by David.Chu.ca
I am new to VIM. I use e and w commands to edit and to write a file. It is very convenient. I am not sure if there is "close" command to close the current file without leaving VIM? I know that q command can be used to close a file. But if it is the last file, the VIM is closed as well(actually on Mac the MacVIM does quit. Only the VIM window is closed and I could use Control-N to open a blank VIM again). I would like the VIM to stay with a blank screen.

  • Rails 2 support after Rails 3 has been released

    - by J. Pablo Fernández
Is there some plan or estimate about how long will Rails 2 be supported after Rails 3 has been released? I wanted to ride the wave and move to Rails 3 right away, specially for projects that may take 4 or 6 months to finish (so that they would probably be released with Rails 3.0.0 final) but I've found many things still not working, many basic plugins and gems; so I believe I'm stuck with Rails 2 for now.

  • Vim - How Recognize Spaces as Tabs (set listchars=tab)

    - by Eduardo Lucio
I wonder if it is possible to use a configuration for that command "set listchars=tab:¦¦,trail:·" to "see" 4 spaces as tabs and get the effect of the picture below (using real tabs)... I use the setting "set expandtab" to Vim use spaces in place of tabs. I really need to use spaces instead of tabs, but I would keep the functionality above. There is some form of do this? Here's how Vim behaves when I use "set expandtab"... ... I wish he recognized one tab for every 4 spaces like above! My setup for tabs... set tabstop=2 set shiftwidth=2 set softtabstop=2 set expandtab Thank you!

  • tab complete not working for vim in particular directory - ubuntu 12.04

    - by user1160958
I am working on a ruby on rails app. All of the sudden the command line tab complete stopped working for vim, only for files though, and only for the vim command (i.e. works for other commands, ls, rm etc.) After further investigation - this only occurs in a specific directory, the home directory of my rails app. If I go into a sub directory in my rails app, or any other directory on my machine, the tab complete works again. If I go into the root directory of any other rails app, it works. I also tried renaming the diretory, and copying the contents of the directory to another directory, and that did not work either. It only does not work for files, and works for any other command - ls, rm etc. But when I do vim /path/to/file/, then tab to see a list of files in that directory, only other directories show, not files. I am using ubuntu 12.04. Also, I tried re-installing vim, re-booting, removing ~/.viminfo (there was no vimrc file) that didn't work. Any help would be appreciated!

  • How to extend an 'unloadable' Rails plugin?

    - by Vitaly Kushner
I'm trying to write a plugin that will extend InheritedResources. Specifically I want to rewrite some default helpers. And I'd like it to "just work" once installed, w/o any changes to application code. The functionality is provided in a module which needs to be included in a right place. The question is where? :) The first attempt was to do it in my plugin's init.rb: InheritedResources::Base.send :include, MyModule It works in production, but fails miserably in development since InheritedResource::Base declared as unloadable and so its code is reloaded on each request. So my module is there for the first request, and then its gone. InheritedResource::Base is 'pulled' in again by any controller that uses it: Class SomeController < InheritedResource::Base But no code is 'pulling in' my extension module since it is not referenced anywhere except init.rb which is not re-loaded on each request So right now I'm just including the module manually in every controller that needs it which sucks. I can't even include it once in ApplicationController because InheritedResources inherites from it and so it will override any changes back. update I'm not looking for advice on how to 'monkey patch'. The extension is working in production just great. my problem is how to catch moment exactly after InheritedResources loaded to stick my extension into it :) update2 another attempt at clarification: the sequence of events is a) rails loads plugins. my plugin loads after inherited_resources and patches it. b) a development mode request is served and works c) rails unloads all the 'unloadable' code which includes all application code and also inherited_resources d) another request comes in e) rails loads controller, which inherites from inherited resources f) rails loads inherited resources which inherit from application_controller g) rails loads application_contrller (or may be its already loaded at this stage, not sure) g) request fails as no-one loaded my plugin to patch inherited_resources. plugin init.rb files are not reloaded I need to catch the point in time between g and h
