best programming language for a web based game?

what programming language would be best for making a web based game to be played in a browser, and where would i be able to find tutorials on how to use the language?

i have looked up silverlight in xna (because that was what i was most fluent with), but it made my projects unusable for a month until i got all of silverlight off my computer.

i have looked at java and javascript, but i have found no suitable places where i can learn to create games on either of these, just the basics of the language.

does anyone have any advice on this?
