Unicode fonts render incorrectly in Terminal

My Ubuntu 13.04 terminal renders Unicode Indic fonts incorrectly, but they are rendered correctly in Firefox, gedit, Chrome etc. How can I fix this?

Works fine in: Firefox, Chrome, Gedit, Open Office

Working

Not working in: Terminal

UPDATE : Here is the screenshot from my desktop showing the telugu font rendering in various applications (including my sample pygame example) note : pygame unicode, console renders wrong and same but rest of the apps correct
