  • Slow write speeds on new Gigabit home file server

    - by Ryan Holder
So I finally got all my parts delivered to setup a home file/backup server this week. It's currently running Ubuntu Server and I'm using Samba to share files on my network. The server currently has a 2TB WD Green drive in it connected to a Asus M5A78L-M This is then connected via CAT6a to my new Gigabit switch (TP-Link TL-SG1005D). My home desktop is then also connected to this switch and again also through CAT6a cable. Currently when transfering files I will get a perfect 100MB/s read from the server to my Windows machine. When copying from my Windows machine to the server I get around 30/38MB/s. I know this drive is capable is faster speeds so would anybody have an idea of where the bottleneck is? Any help would be greatly appreciated :) EDIT: I have found ftp's write speed is much closer to what my Samba read speed is so I'm going to give it a guess that is a software problem rather than hardware

  • Many commands are not found by zsh

    - by Denny Mueller
If I tab autocomplete, most of the time I get errors. Let's say I do a vim tab to look for the files in the folder. It just jumps to the next command line. Or let's say I press tab after typing rvm use 2.0.0 --default I will get zsh: correct 'rvm' to 'rvim' [nyae]?. If I say no, I get a command not found error. Also if I press tab after typing ruby -v, zsh wants to correct to _ruby -v. Any known bug or any help for this?

  • How to prevent carriage return being copied to clipboard in Powershell?

    - by user610209
I have a powershell script that is hashing the MAC address, then posting it into a file and a clipboard. $hash = [System.BitConverter]::ToString($md5.ComputeHash($utf8.GetBytes($MAC))) $hash | clip $hash | Out-File $Env:USERPROFILE\Desktop\this.txt The issue I am having is that a carriage return is being exported to the clipboard. I don't want that. Is there a way of stopping that happening? Additional info - When I paste the text that is on the clipboard into a hex editor I see 0D0A The clipboard function would be fine if I could just loose that some how? Thanks

  • Changing labels language in LibreOffice

    - by clabacchio
I'm using the Italian version of LibreOffice 4.0.4, and writing a document in English. I set English as document language, and the spellchecking works properly. However, when I insert captions and cross references, the labels are in italian. For example Tabella instead of Table. What should I change in order to have the proper labeling, besides installing an English version of LibreOffice Writer??

  • How to un-partition a drive on windows 7

    - by Michael Rentmeister
I bought this laptop used from a friend. The laptop has 500gb of storage; however, the drive is partioned. The C: drive has an allocated space of 50gb whereas the partition has 396gb allocated to it. How do i either take some of the space from the partition and move it to the C: drive, or get rid of the partition? I've done some searching and people say I'm supposed to be able to use "Disc Management" to "delete volume," but when i right click on the partition the "delete volume" is not enabled. Here is a picture:

  • How do I create ruled lines in Word 2007?

    - by tobeannounced
My aim is to set up Word to use the 'Cornell Notetaking method', and I would like to be able to have 'ruled lines' as part of my page in word. Currently, I have a split textbox, however obviously this does not allow the text to flow between lines. The underlining method does not work well enough, and I had read something about a college ruled template, however I was not able to find that. So is there any solution at all - by either creating lines in the textbox, or making the text flow between textbox rows?

  • Table Formatting in Excel 2007: How do I remove it?

    - by RocketGoal
I've used the new Table Formatting option in Excel 2007. Now I can't remove it. I've dragged the little blue square up to the last cell on the top left, but it just won't go any further. In fact it just won't go at all. Clear all doesn't remove it. What does? I want my table back! I'm not a beginner with Excel, but this little annoyance has made me feel like on. Surely there must be some way to remove table format without deleting something or clearing all! Thanks Mike

  • How to Freeze and Unfreeze Rows and Columns in Excel 2013

    - by Lori Kaufman
If you are working on a large spreadsheet where all the rows and columns of data don’t fit on the screen, it would be helpful to be able to keep the heading rows and columns stationary so you can scroll through the data. You can freeze rows and columns in your spreadsheet. To do so, select the cell above which and to the left of which you want to freeze the columns and rows. Click the View tab.

When the focus is on speed, it can be easy to continue to use old style, point-to-point custom scripts that grow organically to the point where they are unmanageable and too costly to maintain. As data volumes, data sources, and end users grow, uncoordinated data integration efforts create significant inefficiencies for both IT and business users. In addition to losing IT productivity due to maintaining spaghetti architecture, data integrity becomes a concern as well. Errors caused by inconsistent, data and manual data entry can prove very costly for companies and disrupt business activities. Many industry leaders recognize now that data should be moved in an automated and reliable manner across all platforms to have one version of the truth. By simplifying their data integration architecture and standardizing on a centralized approach, IT teams now accelerate time to market. Especially, using a centralized, shared-service approach brings agility, increases IT productivity, and frees up resources for innovation. One such industry leader that simplified its data integration architecture is Sabre Holdings. Sabre Holdings provides distribution and technology solutions for the travel industry, and is a winner of Oracle Excellence Awards for Fusion Middleware in 2011 in the data integration category. I had the pleasure to host Sabre Holdings on a public webcast and discuss their data integration best practices for data warehousing. In this webcast Sabre’s Amjad Saeed, presented how the company reduced complexity by consolidating systems and standardizing development on Oracle Data Integrator and Oracle GoldenGate for its global data warehouse development team. With Oracle’s complete real-time data integration solution, Sabre also streamlined support and maintenance operations, achieved real-time view in the execution of the integration processes, and can manage the data warehouse and business intelligence solution performance on demand. By reducing complexity and leveraging timely market insights, the company was able to decrease time to market by 40%. You can now listen to the webcast on demand: Sabre Holdings Case Study: Accelerating Innovation using Oracle Data Integration I invite you to hear directly from Sabre how to use advanced data integration capabilities to enable accelerated innovation. • Using VirtualBox to test drive Windows Blue

    - by Fat Bloke
Oracle VM VirtualBox is great for trying out the latest and greatest technologies and platforms. So when Microsoft recently announced the Developer Preview for Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1,  it was with eager anticipation that FatBloke ran to the TechNet Evaluation Center to download the isos. Once downloaded,  a new VM in VirtualBox Manager was created that used Windows 2012 (64-bit) OS type and all the defaults were selected. And on starting the VM, and pointing to the iso file to install from, the excitement rose as we saw a cool new splashscreen image: But suddenly our hopes are dashed.... It would seem that this platform requires an instruction (CMPXCHG16B) that VirtualBox doesn't offer "out-of-the-box".  Fear not, for the VirtualBox team knew that this day would finally arrive and have prepared an "in case of emergency" switch as follows: Power off the vm; At the command line type:  VBoxManage setextradata [vmname] VBoxInternal/CPUM/CMPXCHG16B 1 Start the VM and install Windows Server 2012 R2 This will be enabled by default in a future release, but geeks can't wait, hence this blog. Enjoy! -FB
