  • Dude, where is my list instance?

    I saw an MSDN Forum post today, so I looked for a ListInstance Hidden property in SharePoint 2007 features.  There is none, but interestingly enough there is one in 2010.  I wondered what would happen if you did this: <Elements xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/">   <ListInstance            FeatureId="00bfea71-de22-43b2-a848-c05709900100"            Title="Hidden List Test"            Description="Testing a hidden list."            TemplateType="100"            Hidden="TRUE"            OnQuickLaunch="FALSE"            Url="Lists/TestHidden" /> </Elements> It hides the entire list from SharePoint Designer and the browser, however you can hit the list by typing in the url in internet explorer.  Pretty cool stuff.  Enjoy guys.   • Recommended service account setup for MS SQL Server 2005/2008

    We have a number of MS SQL servers in our environment running either SQL Server 2005 standard/enterprise or SQL server 2008 enterprise. Currently the SQL services are running as local service or network service and the MS recommended best practice is to run as a domain account which is what we are trying to move towards. Is the best practice with regards to domain accounts to have a separate domain account per service per server? So if we have 4 SQL services we want to run per server and we have 50 servers, we would create 50 * 4 = 200 accounts in AD? This seems excessive to me and I was wondering if anyone has any real experience with this type of setup and it's management.

  • How-To Configure Weblogic, Agile PLM and an F5 LTM

    Agile, Weblogic, and an F5 walk into a bar ... I've got this Agile PLM v 9.3 Running on WebLogic, two managed servers. An F5 BigIP LTM. We're upgrading from Agile v 9.2.1.4 running on OAS. The problem is that while the Windows client works fine the Java client does not. My setup is identical to one outlined in F5's doc: http://www.f5.com/pdf/deployment-guides/bea-bigip45-dg.pdf When I launch the java client it returns this error "Server is not valid or is unavailable." Oracle claims Agile PLM is setup correctly, but won't comment on the specifics of the load balancer. F5 reports the configuration is correct but can't comment on the specifics of the application. I am merely the guy in a vortex of finger-pointing who wants my application to work. It's that or give up on WLS and move back to OAS. Which has it's own problems but at least we know how it works. Any ideas?

  • Creating a bootable external drive in OSX

    I want to do some slightly dangerous testing, testing an install package I've written, so I've got an external drive, and I want to make it a bootable OSX disk, then I can boot up on the external, do my install, and if it screws things up, it doesn't actually affect the usability of my machine. The problem is that when I stick the disk that came with my computer (It's actually another computer in the office, but they're both minis) in and try to run the installer, it says "You cannot install OSx 10.6 on this computer". Now, the computer is ALREADY running 10.6, so that's a kind of silly error message... It does this when I boot to the DVDRom as well. Am I doing something really really dumb? or what?

  • Where should an application's default folder live?

    Hi: I'm creating a little app that configures a connected device and then saves the config information in a file. The filename cannot be chosen by the user, but its location can be chosen. Where is the best place for the app's default save-to folder? I have seen examples out there where it is the "MyDocuments" location (eg Visual Studio does this). I have seen a folder created right at the top of the C:\ drive. I find that to be a little obnoxious, personally. It could be in the Program Files[Manufacturer] or Program Files[Product Name], or wherever the app was installed. I have used this location in the past; I dislike it because Windows Explorer does not allow a user to browse to there very easily ('browsability'). Going with this last notion that 'browsability' is a factor, I suppose MyDocuments is the best choice. Is this the most common, most widely accepted practice? I think historically we have chosen the install folder because that co-locates the data with the device management utilities. But I would really like to get away from that. I don't want the user to have to go pawing through system files to find his/her data, esp if that person is not too Windows-savvy. Also, I am using the .NET WinForms FolderBrowserDialog, and the "Environment.SpecialFolders" enum isn't helpful in setting up the dialog to point into the Program Files folder. Thanks for your input!   • c# passing method names as the argument in a method

    hi guys, I have a recuring method which shows up many times in my code its basically checking to make sure that the connection to the odbc is ok and then connects but each time this method is called it calls another method and each instance of the main method this one is different, as each method is about 8 lines of code having it 8 times in the code isnt ideal. so basically i would like to have just one method which i can call passing the name of the new method as an arguement. so basically like: private void doSomething(methodToBeCalled) { if(somthingistrue) { methodToBeCalled(someArgument) } } is this possible? thanks in advance

  • WSDL AXIS Arrays

    I am trying to create wsdl definition for the below soap response, < reasonCode Required="TRUE" < ValidCodeRR< /ValidCode < ValidCodeRB< /ValidCode < ValidCodeRT< /ValidCode < ValidCodeAR< /ValidCode < /reasonCode Below is the wsdl definition I have, < xsd:complexType < xsd:sequence < xsd:element name="ValidCode" type="xsd:string" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="20" / < /xsd:sequence < xsd:attribute name="Required" type="xsd:string" / < /xsd:complexType < /xsd:element I am using Axis 1 to generate the webservices client and for the above wsdl definition, the tool generates the reasonCode as a string array like below. private java.lang.String[] reasonCode It ignores the attribute required. Does anyone know how to write wsdl defintion, such that axis creates reasonCode as an element with an attribute "required". Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, SK

    I need encrypt data using exactly the PKCS#1 V2.0 encryption method (defined in item 7.2.1 of the PKCS#1V2 specification). Is it already implemented for Java? I'm thinking in something like just pass a parameter to javax.crypto.Cipher specifying "PKCS#1V2", I wonder if there is something like this?

    i'd like to negate a number and would like to know if there's a built in method that will convert a negative number to a positive OR a positive into a negative, depending on the number. i know about Math.abs(), but that only seems to convert negative into positive. is there a method that will do both?

  • Why does my GridSplitter not work at all?

    I'm migrating a WinForms app to WPF. Everything has gone well so far except in relation to my attempts to use GridSplitter which I can never seam to make resize anything at run-time. To make sure it wasn't just my code I attempted to compile the GridSplitter sample from LearnWPF.com and it doesn't appear to work either. I am expecting to see the standard resize cursor when I mouse over the splitter which doesn't happen, and as far as I can see there is no other visual representation of the splitter in the window either.   • What is the maximum sandbox size on iPad?

    I'm writing an iPad app that acts as a media player (video and photos). I know there is a 2GB size limit on apps, however is this the size limit on an app when downloaded? Or the limit on the size of your sandbox throughout the life of the app? For example what if my small app later on downloads various media files to its sandbox that put the user over 2GB total (app + downloaded media)? Thanks!

  • Computing, storing, and retrieving values to and from an N-Dimensional matrix

    This question is probably quite different from what you are used to reading here - I hope it can provide a fun challenge. Essentially I have an algorithm that uses 5(or more) variables to compute a single value, called outcome. Now I have to implement this algorithm on an embedded device which has no memory limitations, but has very harsh processing constraints. Because of this, I would like to run a calculation engine which computes outcome for, say, 20 different values of each variable and stores this information in a file. You may think of this as a 5(or more)-dimensional matrix or 5(or more)-dimensional array, each dimension being 20 entries long. In any modern language, filling this array is as simple as having 5(or more) nested for loops. The tricky part is that I need to dump these values into a file that can then be placed onto the embedded device so that the device can use it as a lookup table. The questions now, are: What format(s) might be acceptable for storing the data? What programs (MATLAB, C#, etc) might be best suited to compute the data? C# must be used to import the data on the device - is this possible given your answer to #1?

    Hello. I am thinking about elegant way to encapsulate WinAPI callbacks inside a class. Suppose I am making a class handling asynchronous I/O. All Windows callbacks should be stdcall functions, not class methods (I need to pass their addresses to ReadFileEx WinAPI function for example). So, I cannot just pass method addresses as a callback routines to WinAPI functions. What is the most elegant way to encapsulate functionality of this type inside a class so that the class have events OnReadCompleted and OnWriteCompleted (I am using Delphi as a primary language, but I guess the situation must be the same in C++ because class methods are different from simple methods by the fact, that the first hidden parameter of them is this link. Of course this class is not a singleton and there can be many of them created by app at the same time. What do you think would be the good way to implement this?

  • Help with Linked Server Error

    In SSMS 2008, I am trying to execute a stored procedure in a database on another server. The call looks something like the following: EXEC [RemoteServer].Database.Schema.StoredProcedureName @param1, @param2 The linked server is set up correctly, and has both RPC and RPC OUT set to true. Security on the linked server is set to Be made using the login's current security context. When I attempt to execute the stored procedure, I get the following error: Msg 18483, Level 14, State 1, Line 1 Could not connect to server 'RemoteServer' because '' is not defined as a remote login at the server. Verify that you have specified the correct login name. I am connected to the local server using Windows Authentication. Anyone know why I would be getting this error?
