    I need to display a list of ActiveX controls for the user to choose. It needs to show the control name and description. How do I query Windows on the installed controls? Is there a way to differentiate controls from COM automation servers?

  • Dispatching generic tasks in WCF or .Net Remoting

    Hello all, I've been researching for a couple days on and off, and have yet to figure out the best way to achieve the following goal. I would like to define either an interface or abstract class in C# which has an associated Run method, similar to the Java runnable interface. The goal would be to have a shared queue which contains a list of these objects. Then individual clients would be able to derive their own concrete runnable classes and add them to the queue hosted by the server. Clients would also be able to pop these runnable objects off the queue and execute them arbitrarily. This seems like it should be feasible in a VM based language without needing to place any of the concrete implementations in a shared assembly, but I have thus far had no luck finding a working example of such a system. Does anyone know how this might be achieved?

  • Exclude a process from being listed in `top`

    Is it possible to exclude some processes from being reported by top? For example, I would like to exclude itself from its listing (ie, I don't want top to show in the process list). I would also like to be able to exclude processes that do not belong to the user running top (except for root). Is this possible? If so, how? If not, is there a similar tool that will do what I want (that does not involve running something like ps frequently).

    I am writing a website with PHP. Since it will need to be accessed by anyone on the network to access the internet I have to create a mobile version. How do I best check if it's a mobile device? I don't want to have a switch statement with 50 devices at the end since I don't only want to support the iPhone. Is there a PHP class I could use?

  • Convert a byte array to a class containing a byte array in C#

    I've got a C# function that converts a byte array to a class, given it's type: IntPtr buffer = Marshal.AllocHGlobal(rawsize); Marshal.Copy(data, 0, buffer, rawsize); object result = Marshal.PtrToStructure(buffer, type); Marshal.FreeHGlobal(buffer); I use sequential structs: [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)] public new class PacketFormat : Packet.PacketFormat { } This worked fine, until I tried to convert to a struct/class containing a byte array. [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)] public new class PacketFormat : Packet.PacketFormat { public byte header; public byte[] data = new byte[256]; } Marshal.SizeOf(type) returns 16, which is too low (should be 257) and causes Marshal.PtrToStructure to fail with the following error: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. I'm guessing that using a fixed array would be a solution, but can it also be done without having to resort to unsafe code?

    is there a way to define a value within a class in the __init__ part, send it to some variable outside of the class without calling another function within the class? like class c: def __init__(self, a): self.a = a b = 4 # do something like this so that outside of class c, # b is set to 4 automatically when i use class c def function(self): ... # whatever. this doesnt matter i have multiple classes that have different values for b. i could just make a list that tells the computer to change b, but i would rather set b within each class

  • undefined method `bytes' for for String in Ruby

    I am working with ruby 1.8.6 (2007-03-13 patchlevel 0) [x86_64-linux] and I get undefined method `bytes' for #<String:0x2a95ec2268> (NoMethodError) even though my code works on ruby 1.8.7. patchlevel 249 I saw somewhere that you need to add require "jcode" for a similar method not defined error with each_byte. I tried adding that but it still does not work. Any suggestions are very appreciated.

    Hello! For one of my projects, I need to create a function that will return a handle to a window when the user click on it (any window displayed on screen, and anywhere inside that window). I know it is possible to use a global hook, but I think there must be a more simple way of doing that, without using any DLL injection. In fact, I could intercept the left mouse click or intercept when a window is activated. Can I use one of those 2 solutions without any DLL injection?

  • Designing a web service to be called by another language

    This will sound naive (but then I am a junior programmer), but if I write a web service say in Python (standard WSDL web service), I then need to host it so it is reachable from an end point. This will give a URI for the service and then from another language, say Java or VB.NET (any), I can add a web service (this one) and then call the web service's object model, correct? Thanks

I'd like to know how well my app runs, like how much memory it uses. I just don't know where to find something like: "As close as we can tell from the simulator you'll app will currently be using xx MBs of RAM on a real iphone device."   • Visual Studio 2010's Build Command: It does nothing

    I'm using Visual C# 2010 Express RTM with Windows Phone Developer Tools April CTP Refresh and when I run any Build option, nothing happens. I've deleted the contents of the build output folders and that doesn't do anything. I can't even run the project, because it complains the executable is missing (XNA Game for Windows project). I've tried the project on another computer and it builds just fine. Any ideas?

  • Switching to Linux, Need backup help

    I have an existing Vista installation on my thinkpad x200 and I want to install Linux on my machine. I've done this several times already but I usually format the whole disk and dual boot on Windows and Linux. Which means I have to reinstall and reconfigure everything I had on Windows. What I want to do is backup my windows installation (into an image) and start a clean Linux installation, and run the windows image thru Vmware or Virtualbox. Whats the easiest way to do this? any free tools available? I've seen acronis but dont wanna buy it for a 1 time session only.

  • Converting html entities into their values in python

    I use this regex on some input, [^a-zA-Z0-9@#] However this ends up removing lots of html special characters within the input, such as 227;, #1606;, #1588; (i had to remove the & prefix so that it wouldn't show up as the actual value..) is there a way that I can convert them to their values so that it will satisfy the regexp expression? I also have no idea why the text decided to be so big.

  • Tab Bar and Nav Controller: Where did I go wrong in my Interface Builder wiring?

    Even if you don't know how I've shot myself in the foot, a story which I've tried to lay out below, if you think I've done a good job showing the parameters of my problem I'd appreciate an upvote so that I might be able to grab some attention for my question. I've been working on an iPhone application in XCode and Interface Builder of the Tab Bar project type. After getting a table view of topics (business sectors) working fine I realized that I would need to add a Navigation Control to allow the user to drill into a subtopics (subsectors) table. As a green Objective-C developer, that was confusing, but I managed to get it working by reading various documentation trying out a few different IB options. My current setup is a Tab Bar Controller with Tab 1 as a Navigation Controller and Tab 2 a plain view with a Table View placed into it. The wiring works: I can log when table rows are selected and I'm ready to push a new View Controller onto the stack so that I can display the subtopics Table View. My problem: For some reason the first tab's Table View is a delegate and dataSource of the second ta. It doesn't make sense to me and I can't figure out why that's the only setup that works. Here is the wiring: Navigation Controller (Sectors) is a delegate of Tab Bar Navigation Bar is a delegate of Navigation Controller (Sectors) View Contoller (Sectors) has a view of Table View Table View (in Navigation Controller (Sectors)) is a delegate of First View Controller (Companies) Table View (in Navigation Controller (Sectors)) is a dataSource outlet of First View Controller (Companies) First View Controller (Companies) First View Contoller (Sectors) has a view of Table View Table View (in First View Controller (Companies)) is not hooked up to a dataSource outlet and is not a delegate When I click the tab buttons and look at the Inspector I see that the first tab is correctly hooked up to my MainWindow.xib and the second tab has selected a nib called SecondView.xib. It's in the File's Owner of MainWindow.xib where I inherit UITableViewDataSource and UITableViewDelegate (and also UITabBarControllerDelegate) in the .h, and in the .m where I implement the delegate methods. Why does this setup only work when the Table View in my first tab (View Controller (Sectors)) is a delegate and dataSource of the second tab? I'm confused: why wouldn't it need to be hooked up to the Navigation Controller-enabled tab in which the Table View is seen (Navigation Controller (Sectors))? The Table View seen on the second tab has neither dataSource and is not a delegate.   • Minimum number of training examples for Find-S/Candidate Elimination algorithms?

    Consider the instance space consisting of integer points in the x, y plane, where 0 = x, y = 10, and the set of hypotheses consisting of rectangles (i.e. being of the form (a = x = b, c = y = d), where 0 = a, b, c, d = 10). What is the smallest number of training examples one needs to provide so that the Find-S algorithm perfectly learns a particular target concept (e.g. (2 = x = 4, 6 = y = 9))? When can we say that the target concept is exactly learned in the case of the Find-S algorithm, and what is the optimal query strategy? I'd also like to know the answer w.r.t Candidate Elimination.   • Forking with a listening socket

    I'd like to make sure about the correctness of the way I try to use accept() on a socket. I know that in Linux it's safe to listen() on a socket, fork() N children and then recv() the packets in all of them without any synchronisation from the user side (the packets get more or less load-balanced between the children). But that's UDP. Does the same property hold for TCP and listen(), fork(), accept()? Can I just assume that it's ok to accept on a shared socket created by the parent, even when other children do the same? Is POSIX, BSD sockets or any other standard defining it somewhere?

    Hi, I'm trying to put the results of a SELECT into a variable and loop through the results to manipulate that data, all in the same stored proceedure... Here's what I have so far: DECLARE @i int @Result = (SELECT * FROM UserImport) SET @i = 0 WHILE @i < (SELECT Count(@Result) As Count) BEGIN /* Do Stuff */ END I know I'm way off because it's saying @Result was not declared, but I'm not sure how to declare a variable to be able to hold the results of a SELECT statement.
