• ca-certificates-java fails when trying to install openjdk-6-jre

  I use a VPS with Ubuntu Server 10.10 x64. I want to use Java and run the command sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jre but it fails because the installation encounted errors while processing ca-certificates-java. I have tried to install the failed package with: sudo apt-get install ca-certificates-java How can I solve this? I have run sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade but I get the same errors after that. I have also installed Ubuntu Server x64 on a VirtualBox, but the two Ubuntu Server 10.10 has different kernel versions (2.6.35 on VirtualBox and 2.6.18 on my VPS). And on VirtualBox I can install Jetty without any problems. The VPS is a fresh install of Ubuntu Server 10.10 x64, the first command I was running was sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jre. When I run sudo apt-get install ca-certificates-java I get this message: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... when running java -version: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. My VPS had 128MB of Memory, I changed to 256MB but got the same problem. Then I changed to 512MB and got the same problem. I found a related post on a forum: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) And I tried: sudo apt-get clean sudo apt-get --reinstall install openjdk-6-jre sudo dpkg --configure -a But I got the same problem, even when I'm using 512MB of Memory. Any suggestions?

• Why does my application hang in interruptible state?

  Hello, I am running on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Server an GTK application that used to work fine. It suddenly started to hang in interruptible state (Sl+) without any apparent reason. Here is a snippet of the strace: poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=5, events=POLLIN}], 2, 0) = 0 (Timeout) poll([{fd=5, events=POLLIN|POLLOUT}], 1, -1) = 1 ([{fd=5, revents=POLLOUT}]) writev(5, [{"\2\30\4\0\224\4\240\0\0@\0\0\37\0\240\0\2\4\4\0\224\4\240\0\0@\0\0\37\0\240\0"..., 192}, {NULL, 0}, {"", 0}], 3) = 192 read(5, 0x2ba9ac4, 4096) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavailable) I googled that line read(5, 0x2ba9ac4, 4096), which seems to be more significant, and it seems that many other applications tend to have the same problem. I tried to restart my X server, but it didn't help. Do you have an idea how to solve this problem?

• How do I enable WebGL sites with Firefox 4 Beta?

  I am using Firefox 4.0b12 from the Mozilla Team's "Firefox Next" PPA. My about:config has webgl.enabled_for_all_sites set to true as most guides recommend that and also say that is all that is needed. It doesn't work for me. The main Mozilla Demos page ("Web O' Wonder") gives me: Unfortunately, while your browser supports WebGL, your video drivers may be too old. To view any of the demos tagged with WebGL, try updating your drivers at NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel. You can still watch screencasts of the WebGL demos or fully experience our other non-WebGL demos without updating. This Mozilla demo gives me "No WebGL context found."

• Windows not closing

  After login, a number of windows such as Desktop, Downloads, and Pictures opens automatically. When I try to close them one by one closes itself but last one opens all indicating starting file manager in lower panel/status bar. After login all the windows such as desktop,download,home opens automatically when i try to minimise them all minimise. when i try to close them one after another they disappears but not last one which closes itself and reappear along with other indicating message starting file manager in status bar. ( it seems that there are a number of open nautilus windows at startup upon login, and when the user tries to close them, nautilus crashes and tries to restart)

Can I connect to a router A using wireless and a separate router B using wired ethernet at the same time without having to switch back and forth? Thanks for replying so quickly. I wish to connect to two separate networks. The wireless connection is to router A which is connected to broadband internet. The wired connection is to router B which I wish to share files and a printer on 1 or 2 other desktops also using wired connections on B and maybe using synergy to have only one keyboard and mouse for 2 desktops.   If I have widget company called "Widget Designer" and I have a direct competitor who has "Widgitator Version 5", am I allowed to target a campaign using the literal keywords "Widgitator"? Is this OK? Will they ever find out? Is it bad business? Update I can't really say what the words are, but this is a good example, if my product is called "Chair-o-matic" and it makes chairs, and a competitors is called "Chair Maker 5" can I target the keyword pair "Chair Maker"?

  Looking to see what the level of effort is for implementing a screen capture command into PS3 game by a mid-level PS3 game developer. Bonus for a description of what is involved in the process... EDIT Not sure how to get back my question since it was the first but let me clarify some things. @Nate Bross, nope I am not the actor although i've fielded calls for him on occasion @coderanger my intent was to try and speak to other PS3 developers, however coming from a web development no one in my social circle close or extended develops on the PS3. Additionally i'm interested in hearing the effort required in terms of hours so that this information can be passed on to a client. A client who has a game on the PS3 using the unreal engine. Convo with devs sometimes go something like "can you implement feature a" which gets a response "this will take us 8 weeks and an army". Trying to be educated before the ask. I hope that helps If anyone here is a PS3 game dev and would like to respond off site so as not to break NDA that would be awesome. @Roger it would be from within the game, something that users can use. Something akin to the iphone screencap utility. No need to get fancier than that.

  I am currently creating a browser based game, and was wondering what was the standard approach in making diverse conditions and status bonuses database wise. Currently considering two cases. Event Conditions Needs min 1000 gold Needs min Lv 10 Needs certain item. Needs fulfillment of another event Status Bonus Reduces damage by 20% +100 attack points Deflects certain type of attack I wish to be able to continually change these parameters during the process of production and operation, so having them hard-coded isn't the best way. All I could come up with are the following two methods. Method 1 Create a table that contains each conditions with needed attributes Have a model named conditions with all the attributes it would need to set them conditions condition_type (level, money_min, money_max item, event_aquired) condition_amount prerequisite_condition_id prerequisite_item_id Method 2 write it in a DSL form that could be interpreted later in the code Perhaps something like yaml, have a text area in the setting form and have the code interpret it. condition_foo: condition_type :level min_level: 10 condition_type :item item_id: 2 At current Method 2 looks to be more practical and flexible for future changes, trade off being that all the flex must be done on the code side. Not to sure how this is supposed to be done, is it supposed to be hard coded? separate config file? Any help would be appreciated. Added For additional info, it will be implemented with Ruby on Rails

  I want to study some "strange" functions by plotting them out in mathematica. One example is the following: mod2[x_] := Which[Mod[x, 2] >= 1, -2 + Mod[x, 2], True, Mod[x, 2]]; f[x_] := Which[-1 <= x <= 1, Abs[x], True, Abs[mod2[x]]]; fn[x_, n_] := Sum[(3/4)^i*f[4^n*x], {i, 0, n}] Plot[{fn[x, 0], fn[x, 1], fn[x, 2], fn[x, 5]}, {x, -2, 2}] However, the plot I got from mma is misleading, in the sense that the maxima and minima of fn[x, 5] should be on the same two levels. But due to high oscillation of the function, and the fact that clearly mma only takes limited number of points to draw the function, you see the plot exhibit strange behavior. Is there any option in plot to remedy for this? Many thanks.

• python/django problem with sessions and language

  Hello everyone! I have the following problem: on the main page I can change language. New language is saved in request.session['django_language']. I also have SESSION_COOKIE_DOMAIN set to my site, so session should be inherited by subdomains. And it is, because after changing language I check request.session['django_language'] in subdomains and it's fine. Then I use django.middleware.locale.LocaleMiddleware to translate my pages. And it works perfectly... only on main site! If I change language and refresh main site - it is ok. However, if I change language and go to a subpage (for example /LogIn), then the page is NOT translated at all. It stays on default language. This is really strange, because if I use {% load i18n %} {% get_current_language as lang %} in this subpage, then lang is good language. There is no mistake. What kind of problem can it be? Some suggestions?

• How do I declare a constructor for an 'object' class type in Scala? I.e., a one time operation for the singleton.

  I know that objects are treated pretty much like singletons in scala. However, I have been unable to find an elegant way to specify default behavior on initial instantiation. I can accomplish this by just putting code into the body of the object declaration but this seems overly hacky. Using an apply doesn't really work because it can be called multiple times and doesn't really make sense for this use case. Any ideas on how to do this?

• NSIS takes ownership of IIS system files

  I recently encountered an issue with NSIS that I believe is related to an interaction with UAC, but I am at a loss to explain it and I do not know how to prevent it in the future. I have an installer that creates and removes IIS virtual directories using the NsisIIS plugin. The installer appeared worked correctly on my Windows 7 workstation. When the installer was run on a Windows 2008 R2 server it installed properly, but the uninstaller removed all of the virtual directories and put IIS is an unusable state; to the point that I had to remove the Default Web Site and re-add it. What I eventually found was that all of the IIS configuration files under C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config had a lock icon on them. Some investigation seem to indicate that this means a user account has taken ownership of the file, however all the files listed SYSTEM as the file owner. I did check a different server that I have not run the installer on, and it does not have the lock icon applied to the IIS files. I have also seen the same lock icon appear on other files that the NSIS installer creates. For instance, I have a Web.Config.tpl file that is processed using the NSIS ReplaceInFile which also appears with the lock icon after the installer finished. After I explicitly grant another user account access to the file, the lock icon goes away. I run the installer under the local Administrator account on the 2008 R2 server, so I do not get the UAC prompt. • reStructuredText for SQL?

  I am trying to use DocUtils and reStructuredText to comment SQL code. I can get this to work when I include the markup inside multi-line comments. I then use --Some text:: to introduce each block of code. I cannot get internal hyperlinks to work. I would like to write -- .. Step1_: but the parser ignores this because of the leading comment. Using a multi-line style also fails. Is there a way to get this to work? Well, the functoin accepts a program path, the stopwatch is started, the program run and the stopwatch then stopped. Problem: the System.Diagnostics.Process.Start is asynchronous and the next instruction (watch stopped) is not executed when the application finishes. A new process is created... I need to stop the timer once the program ends. I thought about the Process class, thicking it held some info regarding the execution times... not lucky... How to solve this?

  I have to have multiple classes for this program. The problem is, I don't fully understand arrays and how they work, so I'm a little lost. I will post my program I have written thus far so you can see what I'm working with, but I don't expect anyone to DO my assignment for me. I just need to know where to start and I'll try to go from there. I think I need to use a double array since I will be working with decimals since it deals with money, and my method call needs to calculate total price for all items entered by the user.
