• SharePoint 2010 Hosting :: Sending SMS Alerts in SharePoint 2010 Over Office Mobile Service Protocol (OMS)

  In this post, I want to share the exciting news of SharePoint's 2010 new feature. Finally it's possible to send SMS directly from SharePoint to mobile phones. The advantages of sending SMS instead of Email messages are obvious: SMS alerts or reminders that are received on mobile phones are more preferred than Email messages that can be lost in the mass of spam. The interface is standard as it's very similar to previous versions of the product. Adjustments are easy to do, simply enter the address of the Office Mobile Service (OMS) web-service which you want to use for sending messages, then specify the connection parameters. Further details on Office Mobile Service is available below. The Test Service button checks if OMS web-service is accessible using provided URL (user name and password are not verified). This check is needed because OMS web-service URL depends on the mobile operator and country. It's now possible to select the method of sending alerts in alerts settings. Email option is selected by default. Alerts delivery method is displayed in the list of existing alerts. Office Mobile Service (OMS) SharePoint 2010 uses exterior servers similar to SMTP servers for sending SMS alerts. However, Microsoft started development and promotion of their own protocol instead of using existing ones. That is how Office Mobile Service (OMS) appeared. This open protocol enables clients to send text and multimedia messages (mobile messages) remotely to the server which processes these messages and delivers them to mobile phones.  Typical scenario of utilizing this protocol is data transfer between computer application and mobile phone. The recipient can answer messages and the server in return will deliver the answer by SMTP protocol, i.e. by email.  Key quality of this protocol is that it's built on base of HTPP(S) and SOAP protocols.     This means that in fact SMS gateway must support typified web-service. What do you get from web-service? What you get is the ability to send SMS from any platform you want.  The protocol is being developed at the moment and version 0.2 from 08/28/2009 was available when the article was published.  For promotion of their protocol and simplifying server search, Microsoft represented web-service http://messaging.office.microsoft.com/HostingProviders.aspx that helps to receive the list of providers, which supports OMS protocol and message delivery to your operator.  All you need to do is decide which provider to use, complete the agreement, then adjust the SharePoint connection parameters and start working.  Some providers advertise themselves not only for clients but for mobile operators as well.   I have a couple users who need multiple email addresses (alias) forwarded to their accounts but setting up a separate user and forwarding the email is showing the email to the users main address instead of the aliased email. For example, here is what I need: [email protected] is the users email address but they also need to receive emails sent to [email protected], and [email protected]. When the emails are sent to the other two email addresses I want them to be forwarded to the user and showing that it was sent to the redundancy email address and not john.doe because the user needs to be able to filter these emails as well as reply from the redundancy department email address. How can I set up alias' in exchange 2010 to work this way? Thanks

• Exchange 2010 SP2 Not Allowing Logon for Users with Expired Passwords

  When we provision users we set the "User must change password at next logon" flag and instruct them to go to OWA to login for the first time and change their password. Using the registry setting ChangeExpiredPasswordEnabled as explained here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb684904.aspx worked well prior to SP2 installation. This allows users with 'expired' passwords to logon and forces a password change before they can access OWA. We just installed Exchange 2010 Service Pack 2 and now it's no longer working. Users with this flag set ('expired' passwords) can't login in at all unless we clear the flag. FYI here's the registry key configuration as set now with SP2 installed: Any suggestions as to how I might fix this? Or did MS break this feature in Service Pack 2?

  We currently run two separate domains where our new implementation of exchange 2010 is currently on a separate domain the users. My problem is: [email protected] cant access his mailbox at joe@domainb via OWA even though full access and sendas has been granted on domainb's mailbox to domaina's account. I keep receiving the error: Access is denied. The Active Directory resource couldn't be accessed. This may be because the Active Directory object doesn't exist or the object has become corrupted, or because you don't have the correct permissions. anyone able to help please? Take care

• Export GFI MailArchiver e-mails for import into Exchange 2010 SP1 Personal Archiving

  We have an existing installation of GFI MailArchiver 5 with several databases of archives (perhaps 100-150GB). The goal is to export each user's archived e-mail and then import it into Exchange 2010 SP1 Personal Archives. GFI has a tool to do this, but it's very rudimentary and has severe, frankly unworkable, limitations. It only allows me to query based on the e-mail headers. Due to the fact that we have multiple aliases that may show in multiple headers (To:, Cc:), not to mention the fact that this won't cover a user's membership in a distribution group at a given point in time, this tool will not suffice. Another option is for me extract the e-mails from the GFI databases without using the tool, but this would require me to write my own tool to reconstruct them and I really would rather not go down that path. I feel very stuck on this issue. Has anyone here done a similar migration? How can this best be handled?

  Here's our problem, users who want to change their password trough OWA get this error "The password you entered doesn't meet the minimum security requirements.", even if users are respecting the minimum security requirements. With these settings, we have the error: Enforced password history 1 passwords remembered Maximum password age 185 days Minimum password age 1 day Minimum password length 7 characters Password must meet complexity requirements enabled With these test settings, we don't have an error: Enforced password history not defined Maximum password age not defined Minimum password age not defined Minimum password length not defined Password must meet complexity requirements not defined People can change their password but there is no more security! Just changing one parameter of the GPO for example "Enforced password history", brings back this error. Here's our server configuration : Windows Server 2008 R2 Exchange Server 2010 Version: 14.00.0722.000 If anybody has a clue it would very helpful !

  How do I increase performance in OWA 2010 SP2? I am running CAS on a seperate installation, which has 8GB RAM and 4 CPU cores - running virtualized in a vmware environment. However, the load times are pretty bad, so is there any way to improve those? I am thinking of installing a linux cache-stuff-server in front of the OWA, but will that work? And how should it be done? Allright, I "fixed" it - was just something temporary issue. Thanks for your replies

• Error When Trying to Exchange Encrypted Emails with Sender Outside Domain

  I have an end user who is trying to exchange encrypted messages with a person outside of our company domain. When receiving emails from the user they receive a message that says: Signed By: (There were errors displaying the signers of this message, click on the signature icon for more details.) However, when you click on the signature icon it says: The digital signature on this message is Valid and Trusted. Then when you look at the "Message Security Properties" it shows two layers, each with a green checkmark beside them. The layers are presented as below: Subject: Digital Signature Layer It also has: Description: OK: Signed message The end result with all of this is that when the user on my side tries to send this user an encrypted message it says: Microsoft Outlook had problems encrypting this message because the following recipients had missing or invalid certificates, or conflicting or unsupported encryption capabilities: Continue will encrypt and send the message but the listed recipients may not be able to read it. However, the only options you are actually given is "Send Unencrypted" and "CanceL" (Continue is grayed out). If anybody can assist I would greatly appreciate it!

• Outlook 2010 search stopped working with Exchange 2007

  The quick search feature in Outlook 2010 used to work fine. We switched the computers over from a workgroup so that they are on the domain with our new server. We then copied all the email from the old PST file into the new Exchange based folders. Since we did that 3 of the 4 computers can't search email using Outlook's awesome search boxes. One of them works perfectly fine. Any idea what might have happened? There are only 5 users on the network and it's a pretty burly server for such a small network, I can't imagine the server is still indexing their mail. Is the quick search something that has to be turned on or might it be related to the permissions change from a non-domain user to a standard domain user?

Also Visual studio 2010 ultimate. I did not upgrade the target .net framework to 4.0 because my host will not support this for ~24 hours. I have a .Tests project in the same solution that says it is targeting .net 4.0 but it still won't build even with that unloaded, same message.

• Program error trying to generate Outlook 2013 email from Visual Basic 2010 [on hold]

  I am using vb to send emails through outlook. Currently we have a mix of outlook versions at our office: 2010 and 2013 with a mix of 32 bit and 64 bit (a mess, I know). I have referenced the version 15 dll for 2013 and it seems to be backward compatible, but when I try to use the above code for 2013 (it is 64 bit) it says it cannot start Microsoft Outlook. A program error has occured. This is happening on the application Dim statement line. I have tried googling around but there doesn't seem to be much out there referencing 2013 but I feel that the problem here probably has more to do with 64 bit than the software version. The DynamicMasterPageFile attribute in SharePoint 2010 master pages allows application pages start using the site’s master page instead of the application master page. If you want backwards compatibility with SharePoint 2007, i.e. you want unbranded application pages, here is what you can do, a) You can change the MasterPageReferenceEnabled property to false in your SPWebApplication object, orb) Go to central administration\application management\manage web application\select your web app … go to the ribbon, look for general settings\general settings, and detach application pages from the site’s master page. • Exchange 2010 CAS Removal == Broken???

  Hi there, I recently upgraded to exchange 2010 and have a setup with 2 of my servers running CAS roles - EXCH01, EXCH02 EXCH02 just happens to also have a mailbox role where a lot of the users sit EXCH01 is my front facing CAS server, and is facing the net with SSL etc and incoming mail moving through it as a hub transport layer server as well. As i was trying to lean things out in my VM environment i removed the CAS role from EXCH02 and all hell broke loose. All the mail users that have a mailbox on EXCH02 had their homeMTA set to a deleted items folder in AD and so did their msExchHomeServer properties. After a complete battle i manually fixed these issues to the oldvalues, and in the mean time reinstalled CAS on EXCH02 (management was going nuts with out OUTLOOK working so i just put things back the way they were in a hurry.) I must add as a strange thing on the side, that before i reset these to point at EXCH02 i tried EXCH01 and it failed. I still want to remove the CAS role from EXCH02 as it should really not have it (error on install/planning on my part) and would have thought that this would not cause the issues it did, i assumed that the fact that there was another CAS server in the admin group all would be good. Was i wrong in my assumption? and what can i do to complete this successfully the second time round? Do i need to rehome all the mailboxes to the CAS server? is this a bug in the role uninstall?

• Outlook 2010 not resolving SMTP address to Display Name

  I have a weird problem where a user (director, naturally) has an odd problem with the way the to field shows in his Outlook. We are using Outlook 2010 (with RPC/HTTP) and Exch 2003 at the back end. Most of his mail shows in his mailbox with the To: field as normal. (e.g. Fred Bloggs in the to field.) However, some mails come in showing in the To: field as [email protected]. (Apparently this is an issue!) For example, most show as: but a few come in as: There doesn't appear to be a pattern to this. I have tried to replicate by: Sending from any specific senders to see if it recurs (it doesn't) Typing his full name in my Outlook and sending (it resolves as normal) Sending programatically (e.g. from script) - (it still resolves OK) Forcing a "[email protected]" entry in my Outlook. It resolves as soon as I hit enter Sending in cached mode Sending disconnected Anyone got any ideas how I can either replicate the problem or fix it! I can't tell at the moment whether it is a problem at his end or the sender's. EDIT This seems to be a global issue, following some more digging. Most people seem to have a few emails in their inbox addressed to their smtp address, rather than display name.

  I have two transport rules on my exchange server. One is: > Apply rule to messages: From users that are 'outside the organization' > and when any of the recipients in the To or Cc fields is a member of > '[email protected]' Forward the messageto sender's manager > for moderation The second is: Apply rule to messages from a member of '[email protected]' and sent to users that are 'outside the organization' forward the message to the sender's manager for moderation. nointernetmail is a distribution group, and each user has the managed by set to there local manager. However these transport rules do not work, internet mail is still sent and received without issue. I have read various tutorials / articles of how to do this on sites such as msexchangeblog and even microsoft technet, however even after following the guides I am still unable to have this function properly. Any help is appreciated.

• Have two exchange servers to communicate together

  We have Exchange Server 2007 using our domain ddd.com. We created an isolated network with a firewall/gateway and installed a DC and Exchange Server 2010 using a demo/test domain (ddd.loc). We opened all the needed ports in the firewall (10.10.2.88) to the Exchange Server 2010. In our main Domain Controller (10.10.2.3) we defined the domain ddd.loc with IP 10.10.2.88 (firewalls). We also we defined MX records to the same IP (10.10.2.88) We did that so when we send email from my email [email protected] it will go to the Exchange Server 2010. Anyways, all the pings test from to any servers are OK. But we are not able to send or receive emails. Between these Exchange Servers we can not send any email from the 2010 to any email in general (emails are pending). Also, in Exchange 2007 we are getting error #550 5.1.1 RESOLVER.ADR.RecipNotFound; not found ##

• Trouble "turning off" dialtone in Exchange 2010

  Given that there are two ways to enable dial tone, I'm having trouble turing it off. The two ways I'm aware of are: Dismount the database, delete it or rename it, mount it, Exchange will prompt for a dial tone creation. Run the command: Get-Mailbox -Database DB1 | Set-Mailbox -Database DTDB1 as described here Both options should result in Outlook "thinking" it's in dial tone mode. Since my goal is to shut off dial tone, I think I need to learn the specific, technical parameters that "tell" Outlook that it is in dial tone mode. Question How can I turn off dial tone for a given database? What tells outlook that it's in dial tone mode?

• How to Animate Text and Objects in PowerPoint 2010

  Are you looking for an eye catching way to keep your audience interested in your PowerPoint presentations? Today we’ll take a look at how to add animation effects to objects in PowerPoint 2010. Select the object you wish to animate and then click the More button in the Animation group of the Animation tab.   Animations are grouped into four categories. Entrance effects, Exit effects, Emphasis effects, and Motion Paths. You can get a Live Preview of how the animation will look by hovering your mouse over an animation effect.   When you select a Motion Path, your object will move along the dashed path line as shown on the screen. (This path is not displayed in the final output) Certain aspects of the Motion Path effects are editable. When you apply a Motion Path animation to an object, you can select the path and drag the end to change the length or size of the path. The green marker along the motion path marks the beginning of the  path and the red marks the end. The effects can be rotated by clicking and the bar near the center of the effect.   You can display additional effects by choosing one of the options at the bottom. This will pop up a Change Effect window. If you have Preview Effect checked at the lower left you can preview the effects by single clicking.   Apply Multiple Animations to an Object Select the object and then click the Add Animation button to display the animation effects. Just as we did with the first effect, you can hover over to get a live preview. Click to apply the effect. The animation effects will happen in the order they are applied. Animation Pane You can view a list of the animations applied to a slide by opening the Animation Pane. Select the Animation Pane button from the Advanced Animation group to display the Animation Pane on the right. You’ll see that each animation effect in the animation pane has an assigned number to the left.    Timing Animation Effects You can change when your animation starts to play. By default it is On Click. To change it, select the effect in the Animation Pane and then choose one of the options from the Start dropdown list. With Previous starts at the same time as the previous animation and After Previous starts after the last animation. You can also edit the duration that the animations plays and also set a delay.   You can change the order in which the animation effects are applied by selecting the effect in the animation pane and clicking Move Earlier or Move Later from the Timing group on the Animation tab. Effect Options If the Effect Options button is available when your animation is selected, then that particular animation has some additional effect settings that can be configured. You can access the Effect Option by right-clicking on the the animation in the Animation Pane, or by selecting Effect Options on the ribbon.   The available options will vary by effect and not all animation effects will have Effect Options settings. In the example below, you can change the amount of spinning and whether the object will spin clockwise or counterclockwise.   Under Enhancements, you can add sound effects to your animation.
