• Drupal 6: using too many Views module causing site to go down cos of too many mysql connection.

  Hi friends, I have HostGator Baby Shared Plan . I develop Drupal site on. everything was fine at the beginning, then by the time i go further with development, site started ti work really slow. now it is not working at all. giving my sql errors like TOO many connections, etc... I created so many blocks, pages with View. so it makes my site to so much depend on database. should not I do that? can it be the reason of my site's no working now. appreciate helps!!!!

  Hey, I have two tables in one DB, one called Cottages and one called Hotels. In both tables they have the same named fields. I basically have a search bar that i want it to search in both of the fields in both of the tables. (the two fields being called "Name" and "Location" SO far I have $sql = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM Cottages WHERE Name LIKE '%$term%' or Location LIKE '%$term%' LIMIT 0, 30"); But this only searches the Cottages table, how can I make it search both the cottages and hotel tables?   Hello, I am working with a XMLType and currently experiencing significant performance issues and would like to incorporate indexing to the column type. Currently I am taking the approach of using the XMLTable() and XQuery functions to create a virtual table.   Hello. I'm trying to use a QTreeView for a first time, with a QAbstractItemModel. And instantly it's a problem: QAbstractItemModel interface declares methods as 'const', assuming they will not change data. But i want a result of SQL query displayed, and returning data for a record with specified indeq REQUIRES to use QSqlQuery::seek() that is a non-const. Is it any 'official' guideline to use a QAbstractItemModel with data that MUST be changed in order to get number of items, data per item etc? Or i must hack C++ with const casts?

• Dowloading a bunch of files asynchronous wait till last finished

  I'm trying to download a lot of files after downloading a sql statement must insert a record. I'm using System.Net.Client to download each file synchronously, still it could be done asynchronous. There's no relation or dependency between each download. At first I just tried to use WebClient.DownloadFileAsync but that shutted the program down and killed all the download processes/threads. Second I tried to create a wait routine something like this; while (processedFiles < totalFiles) Thread.Sleep(1000) This freezed everything. So could someone tell me which aproach to take to implement this Async?

  I'd like to write a MySQL stored function that returns multiple rows of data. Is this possible? It seems to be locked at 1 row -- can't even return 0 rows. For example DELIMITER // create function go() RETURNS int deterministic NO SQL BEGIN return null ; -- this doesn't return 0 rows! it returns 1 row -- return 0 ; END // DELIMITER ; Returning null from a MySQL stored proc though, doesn't return 0 rows.. it returns 1 row with the value null in it.   I am using jdbc to connect to a postgresql database in a java application (actually the app is written in Groovy). I have postgresql set up to use the 'trust' authentication method. Is it possible to open a jdbc connection without specifying a password? • Are there SqlExceptions which throw but commit their data anyway?

  I've recently encountered the error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: The transaction log for database 'mydatabase' is full. To find out why space in the log cannot be reused, see the log_reuse_wait_desc column in sys.databases on one of my windows services. It's supposed to retry after catching an Sql Exception, what I didn't expect was that it seemed like the data was still going through (I'm using an SqlBulkCopy btw) regardless of it throwing an exception. I've never encountered this scenario before. I'd like to know if there are other scenarios where such a thing like this might happen, and if this thing is entirely possible at all in the first place? PS. If anyone knows the error code to the above exception, that would help a great deal as well.

  Hi all, I'm fairly new to both Rails and Heroku but I'm seriously thinking of using it as a platform to deploy my Ruby/Rails applications. I want to use all the power of Heroku, so I prefer the "embedded" PostgreSQL managed by Heroku instead of the addon for Amazon RDS for MySQL, but I'm not so confident without the possibility to access my data in a SQL client... I know that in a well made app you have no need to access DB, but there are some situations (add rows to a config table, see data not mapped in a view, update some columns for debugging issues, performance monitoring, running queries for reporting, etc.) when this can be good... How do you solve this problem? What's you experience in a real life app powered by Heroku? Thanks!

• Secure way to backup MySQL databases?

  What is the best/secure way to backup a mysql database on windows server (2008)? I have "MySQL Administrator" but that requires that you save passwords for backup project. I'm not keen on doing as anyone gaining access to the server would then have easy access to the database. Can you do anything similar to SQL Server like using Windows authentication. If not what is the most secure (and practical) way of backups. Lastly, what are the privileges needed to backup a database? I have created a single user just for this task. Please advise.

• Does MVC replace traditional manually created BLL?

  I'm used to creating the UI, BLL, DAL by hand (some times I've used LINQ-to-SQL or SubSonic for the DAL). I've done several small projects using MVC since its release. On these projects I've still continued to write a BLL and DAL by hand and then incorporate those into the MVC's models/controllers. I'm looking to optimize my time on projects this seems like overkill and a potential waste of time. Question Would it be acceptable to roll a DAL such as SubSonic and directly use it in the Models/Controllers of my MVC web app? Now the models & controllers would act as the BLL. I just see this as a major timesaver to not have to worry about another tier. UPDATE: I just wanted to add that my concern isn't really with the DAL (I frequently use SubSonic and NH) but rather focus on the BLL. Sorry for the confusion.

  I made an application that store Item pictures (jpeg) in SQL Server DB, the use shot pictures with his camera (file size ~ 2 M), in my aaplication I check if picture.Width 800 or picture.Height 600, I resize the picture to 800x600. -- if I export picture from DB, the file size is about 100k, if I open the same picture in photoshop, the image size shows 1.37M. 01-- I want to know the space that takes this picture in my DB. The reason I'm resizing the picture before storing it in my DB, is that I imagine it take a huge space in my DB. 02-- How to resize a picture to keep it' s aspect ratio?

  I have a transaction log file in CSV format that I want use to run statistics. The log has the following fields: date: Time/date stamp salesperson: The username of the person who closed the sale promo: sum total of items in the sale that were promotions. amount: grand total of the sale I'd like to get the following statistics: salesperson: The username of the salesperson being analyzed. minAmount: The smallest grand total of this salesperson's transaction. avgAmount: The mean grand total.. maxAmount: The largest grand total.. minPromo: The smallest promo amount by the salesperson. avgPromo: The mean promo amount... I'm tempted to build a database structure, import this file, write SQL, and pull out the stats. I don't need anything more from this data than these stats. Is there an easier way? I'm hoping some bash script could make this easy.

  I'm trying to construct a query in NHibernate to return a list of customers with no orders matching a specific criteria. My Customer object contains a set of Orders: <set name="Orders"> <key column="CustomerID" /> <one-to-many class="Order" /> </set> How do I contruct a query using NHibernate's ICriteria API to get a list of all customers who have no orders? Using native SQL, I am able to represent the query like this: select * from tblCustomers c where not exists (select 1 from tblOrders o where c.ID = o.CustomerID) I have been unable to figure out how to do this using aliases and DetatchedCriteria objects. • Multiple connections to a MySQL database in a single PHP script.

  There are multiple times in one page where I need to connect and subsequently query a MySQL database, yet my code won't let me. I think it might be something to do with how my files are nested but it makes no sense. I am opening the SQL connection in the header file. What I'd like to do is only select one city from each area code and delete any extra cities from duplicate area codes. What would be the best query to accomplish this?   I created some tables in an .edmx file and have been generating the database by selecting "Generate Database From Model" and manually executing an .edmx.sql file on the database to build the tables. Now, however, I am creating a setup dialog that allows the user to connect the program up to their own database. I thought running context.CreateDatabase would be good enough to create the database, along with the tables, but the tables are not created. What is the preferred method for creating the database and tables when the user specifies their own server and database to use, when originally starting with a model?

• Anyone using a web service as a data source in Excel 2007?

  Can I use a web service as a data soruce for Excel pivot tables? Currently, the soure data for the pivot table is being exported from the DB to a CSV file. Then the CSV file is loaded into a worksheet in the workbook. From there, a pivot table is created in the same workbook. We are looking to streamline this process. The SQL db and pivot tables are the constants. The pivot tables are generated dynamically from a public-facing website. This is not an internal app so the preference is to not connect directly to the DB.

• Wordpress parses wp_posts.post_content before rendering?

  I noticed that when I call the the_post() or the_content() function from my wordpress template, it automatically parses the database data to replace new lines with <br/>, wraps the text with <p> tags etc...There's probably some kind of "format" function within the_post() or the_content(). I wrote a query to directly get posts from the wp_posts. I then print it out like <?php $results = $wp->get_results($sql) foreach($results as $row) echo $row->post_content; ?> Clearly, this data is not parsed by wordpress' "format" function. What is the proper way to output this content such that it undergoes the same "formatting" functions as the_post() or the_content()?

• Update database using restful ASP.NET MVC 1.0

  We are building an MVC 1.0 application right now and using Linq - SQL for our DAL. Following the restful approach we have multiple action events depending on if you are updating or loading or what not. The two that I'm concerned with at this point are the edit and update action methods. Here is the signatures. public ActionResult Update(int customerId, int Id, AggregateModel viewModel) public ActionResult Edit(int customerId, int Id, AggregateModel viewModel) So the idea is that in the Edit method we load up our viewModel and pass it to the view. The user makes changes to the model and then posts back to the Update method. The first thing I could think of to do would be to get the viewModel from the database again, copy the changes in one by one from the posted back model and then submit it back. This would work but does seem clunky to me. What is the best way to insert those changes into the database at this point?
