• Delete data from a SQL Server database on a full partition

  I have a SQL Server 2005 Database on a dedicated partition, during the time the database grown and now it have occupied all the space on the partition, now the problem is that the only operation I can do on the database is detach, but i want to remove old data from some tables to save space ... How can I remove old data from the database if SQL Server interface doesn't allow to run queries on it ?

I'm just wondering what metrics I can use from SQL Server to help determine what my needs will be on Azure. The size of the database is around 150GB, so I understand what my needs are in terms of storage, I'm just not sure what metrics I can use to translate my database usage to the DTU benchmark metrics that the various service tiers on Azure SQL use.

• MySQL Workbench: Orphaned document changes detected

  Each time I open MySQL Workbench, I get this annoying message at the bottom of the screen saying "Orphaned document changes detected". It comes up whether I close all the SQL Editor workspaces or not. Dismissing the error doesn't help either. I did a Google search of the exact error message but it only yields four results. Anyone here who has faced the same issue in the past? How do I clean up these "orphaned documents" or completely disable this message? FYI: I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and the only customization that's made to MySQL Workbench is that I've disabled the query results limit.

• How is this word document encoded?

  Hi all, We have a program that was written for us by a developer that we can no longer contact, the program opens word documents (forms) that we use in our company, you can tell they are Word documents as the 'Word' toolbar displays with this custom program and we can see the .doc files on the hard drive, the Save button is disabled in the program and when we open the .doc files in word the encoding is not standard as the forms are unreadable but look perfect in the custom program. If we can word out how he has done this we can hopefully convert the 100's of forms that we use. One of the .doc files can be download below, I've scanned it for viruses, it's clean. • Should we use Visual Studio 2010 for all SQL Server Database Development?

  Our company currently has seven dedicated SQL Server 2008 servers each running an average of 10 databases. All databases have many stored procedures and UDFs that commonly reference other databases both on the same server and also across linked servers. We currently use SSMS for all database related administration and development but we have recently purchased Visual Studio 2010 primarily for ongoing C# WinForms and ASP.NET development. I have used VS2010 to perform schema comparisons when rolling out changes from a development server into production and I'm finding it great for this task. We would like to consider using VS2010 for all database development going forward but as far as I understand, we would have to set up ALL databases as projects because of the dependencies on linked servers etc. My question is, do you have any experience using VS2010 for database development in a similar environment? Is it easy to use in tandem with SSMS or is it a one way street once VS2010 projects have been set up for all databases? Can you make any recommendations/impart any experience with a similar scenario? Thanks, Luke

I can interact with the REPL from emacs and can explore the document pretty much as described in the tutorial pages.   We just purchased a Windows-based VPS that I've been tasked to set up as a web server. It's running Windows 2003 Server Datacenter Edition. I downloaded the latest version of Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer and installed it, but when I try to run it I'm given an error message "Failed to create empty document." A search on Google gave the suggestion to change the path of the TEMP and TMP environment variables, which I tried but it made no difference. I also saw suggestions that this problem is caused by MMC, but I was just in MMC setting up a user account. What am I missing?

• jQuery.load doesn't execute javascript with document.write

  I am trying to use jQuery.Load to load an ad call that has a document.write, and for some reason its not able to, or in firefox atleast, reloads the page with the entire ad. • Open XML document ContentControls problem with signed id's

  I have an application that generates Open XML documents with Content Controls. To create a new Content Control I use Interop and the method ContentControls.Add. This method returns an instance of the added Content Control. I have some logic that saves the id of the Content Control to reference it later, but in some computers I've been having a weird problem. When I access the ID property of the Content Control I just created, it returns a string with the numeric id, the problem is that when this value is too big, after I save the document, if I look through the document.xml in the generated document, the <w:id/> element of the <w:sdtPr/> element has a negative value, that is the signed equivalent of the value I got from the Id property of the generated control. For example: var contentControl = ContentControls.Add(...); var contentControlId = contentControl.ID; // the value of contentControlId is "3440157266" If I save the document and open it in the Package Explorer, the Id of the Content Control is "-854810030" instead of "3440157266". What have I figured out is this: ((int)uint.Parse("3440157266")).ToString() returns "-854810030" Any idea of why this happens? This issue is hard to replicate because I don't control the Id of the generated controls, the Id is automatically generated by the Interop libraries.

I do not mean the detailed configuration of services, but rather user accounts, databases, databases accounts, ip addresses, physical location, SSH port etc. etc. I know all this data is stored in config files, but I want to centralize it all. I am considering just creating a spreadsheet to record this data, but was wondering if there is something better (perhaps a small php/mysql app) which would be more structured and complete than a hacked together spreadsheet. • Join .doc files into one .doc (with keeping the original format of every document)

  I have about ~50 .doc files, that look perfect (they are extracted with Able2Extract). Now I want to join these 50 files into one huge .doc. I've tried using Word's in-built "Insert" feature, but that messed up the whole format. I want to keep everything I have. Like just document1 - document2 - document3. Nothing "intelligent" or "smart" needed during the conversion, just the capability of joining them. (Thus making them all searchable, that's the ultimate aim.) I don't mind if the method/solution applies a single blank page at every document end either.

• Generating PDF document using XSLT

  I have one huge XML document. I have set of XSL representing each node in the XML. These XSL also have java script to generate the dynamic content. It uses images which are in seperate images folder and it uses fonts as well. At present, I have a program which displays all the nodes that can be transformed and user click on one of the node and the program performs XSLT and display the content in HTML format on IE screen. I want to write a program (.Net , C# or any .Net language) which will allow user to do XSLT tranform on all the available notes and create one PDF document. My initial requirement was to display all the document in the IE itself, so I reused the existing code, and foreach node, perform XSLT and then append it to the current HTML with a page break and it worked ok till we hit huge files. So the requirement changed to create one PDF file with all the nodes. I have couple of questions, 1. What is the best way to create PDF file using XSLT transformation? 2. Since the images are relative path, if we generate the XSLT in html and then write it to a output stream will it loose the images? 3. Will the font be preserved in the PDF document? Really appriciate if someone could point me to some good example that I can take and run with it. Thanks a lot.

  I have a subdirectory abc in the document root /var/www/html I want to be able to run any file any_file.html within the subdirectory by typing in the browser: localhost/any_file instead of localhost/abc/any_file.html or my_domain.com/any_file instead of my_domain.com/abc/any_file.html I tried writing in httpd.conf: <Directory "/var/www/html/abc"> RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule %{REQUEST_FILENAME} %{REQUEST_FILENAME}\.html </Directory> But it doesn't work. Options FollowSymLinks is activated in <Directory> so I believe I would not need to write this again. Does anyone knows why and how to solve it? Thanks.   G'day, I was reading the article "Database as a Fortress" by Dan Chak from the excellent book "97 Things Every Software Architect Should Know" (sanitised Amazon link) which suggests that databases should not be designed using an agile approach. There's an SO question on agile approaches and databases "Agile development and database changes" which has some excellent answers covering agile development approaches. In fact, one of the answers supplies a brilliant idea of what's needed for each update of the DB. ;-) But after reading Dan Chak's article, I am left wondering if an agile approach is really suitable for large scale systems. This of course leads on to the question of how best to decouple an agile approach for the application that is interacting with the BDUF database design without adding complicated translation layers in the final design employed? Your computer may not have enough memory to open the image, or the image may be corrupted. Restart your computer, and then open the file again. If the red x still appears, you may have to delete the image and then insert it again. If i copy the html code and try to open the word document on my local machine, it displays the image correctly. It just doesn't work when retrieving the document from the server. This happens for any images I try to add. Is there another way to add images to html-generated word documents that can be output from an asp page? Thanks.

  I'm trying to drop a SQL Server database from .NET code. I've tried using the SMO classes but get an exception saying the database is in use. Then I tried executing a query (opening a SqlConnection, executing a SqlCommand), along the lines of: ALTER DATABASE foo SET SINGLE_USER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE (pause) DROP DATABASE foo But still I get an exception saying the database is in use. How do I do this? (Or, how does SQL Server Management Studio implement the Drop database and close existing connections?)
