  • NSEntityDescription entityForName returning nil

    Hi, I did some changes to my model (but I don't want migration yet, so I just remove the application, built clean etc.) so my application works in the simulator. However, when I run it on the iPhone, I get the following error: *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'executeFetchRequest:error: A fetch request must have an entity.' I set the entity like this: NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Document" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; My managedObjectContext is not nil. But I suspect that it doesn't load the object model correctly or something similar because If I display the entities in the model, the list is empty. How can I make sure the model is loaded? Thanks,

    Hi, I have a tableview, when the user selects a row i call a webservice depending on which row is selected. my problem is i can connect to the webservice but i dont get any response from the webservice.   • can I auto update my uitextview from the value of the row of my uipickerview without pressing any se

    So I have a uipicker view, that I have managed to load some data from my db into. I would like to update a textview, which is right above the pickerview, with each changing of the row. Is that possible? If I don't have to, I would like to avoid pushing a button in order to show the respective text. Can I make it so that the value in the text field changes with the value of the rowselected in the pickerview, in real time? Any thoughts or code snippets would be appreciated. Thanks!

    I am using a fetched results controller, which, it seems wants to set up using sections in my UITableView. Well, in this case, I don't want to use sections. Which, is easy enough to set the value for numberOfSectionsInTableView: to 1. But, now I am not sure how to get the numberOfRowsInSection: to return all of the cells into one section. - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section { // Return the number of rows in the section. id <NSFetchedResultsSectionInfo> sectionInfo = [[fetchedResultsController sections] objectAtIndex:section]; return [sectionInfo numberOfObjects]; } How can I make that method return all the cells, since I only want to use 1 section?

  • How do you uninstall old custom installs of Xcode?

    Hi, When I install a beta, I do a custom install into a separate folder to the latest release version. I have several old beta installs. How do I uninstall the old custom versions of xcode? Can I just trash the folder? Our do I need to use Terminal? The release notes suggest to use this: $ sudo /Library/uninstall-devtools --mode=all But will this just uninstall my original official release version 3.2? Thanks.

  • iPhone "touchesBegan" and "touchesMoved" message ... do not move to centre of touch

    I am modifying the "MoveMe" example from the apple web site. When I get the "touchesMoved" message I move the centre of the target view to the centre of the touch. Is there a way that when the touch starts ("touchesBegan" message) I can remember the offset from the target view and keep that offset. Let me know if this is hard to understand and I will try to explain it a bit better.

  • Designing DAOs around a JSON API for iPhone Development

    So I've been trying to design a clean way of grabbing data for my models in iPhone land. All the data for my application is coming from JSON API's. So right now when a VC needs some models, it does the JSON call itself (asynch) and when it receives the data, it builds the models. It works, but I'm trying to think of a cleaner method whereby the DAO's retrieve the information for me and return the models, all in an async manner. My initial thought is build a protocol for my DAOs, such that the VC would instantiate a DAO and make itself the delegate. When you requested data [DAOinstance getAllUsers] the DAO would do all the network request stuff, and then when it had the data, it would call a method on its delegate (the VC) to pass the data. So I think that's a cool solution, but realized that if I needed to use the same DAO for different purposes in the same VC, my delegate method would have to branch logic depending on which DAO instance initiated the request. So my second thought was to be able to pass 'handler' selectors to the DAO object a la typical javascript patterns. So instead of an official protocol, I would say something like [DAOinstance getAllUsersWithSelector:"TheHandlerFunctionOnMyVC:"] Then when the DAO completed its network activities, it would call the passed selector on the VC, and pass the data back. So am I headed in the wrong direction entirely here? Seems like maybe an ok way to go. Any pointers or articles on designing this kind of data layer would be sweet. Thanks! Bob

  • Android, how to use DexClassLoader to dynamically replace an Activity or Service

    I am trying to do something similar to this stackoverflow posting. What I want to do is to read the definition of an activity or service from the SD card. To avoid manifest permission issues, I create a shell version of this activity in the .apk, but try to replace it with an activity of the same name residing on the SD card at run time. Unfortunately, I am able to load the activity class definition from the SD card using DexClassLoader, but the original class definition is the one that is executed. Is there a way to specify that the new class definition replaces the old one, or any suggestions on avoiding the manifest permission issues without actually providing the needed activity in the package?   • Giving another object a NSManagedObject

    Alright, so I'm running into an issue with my code. What I have done is subclassed UIButton so I can give it some more infomormation that pertain to my code. I have been able to create the buttons and they work great. Capiche. However, one of the things I want my subclass to hold is a reference to a NSMangedObject. I have this code in my header file: @interface ButtonSubclass : UIButton { NSManagedObjectContext *context; NSManagedObject *player; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSManagedObject *player; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSManagedObjectContext *context; - (id)initWithFrame:(CGRect)frame andTitle:(NSString*)title; //- (void)setPlayer:(NSManagedObject *)aPlayer; @end As you can see, it has a instance variable to the NSMangedobject I want it to hold (as well as the Context). But for the life of me, I can't get it to hold that NSManagedObject. I run both the @synthesize methods in the Implementation file. @synthesize context; @synthesize player; So I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. This is how I create my button: ButtonSubclass *playerButton = [[ButtonSubclass alloc] initWithFrame:frame andTitle:@"20"]; //works playerButton.context = self.context; //works playerButton.player = [players objectAtIndex:i]; //FAILS And I have initilaized the players array earlier, where I get the objects. Another weird thing is that when it gets to this spot in the code, the app crashes (woot) and the the console output stops. It doesn't give me any error, and notification at all that the app has crashed. It just... stops. So I don't even know what the error is that is crashing the code, besides it has to do with that line up there setting the "player" variable. Thoughts and ideas? I'd love your wisdom!

    I am using ListView with ArrayAdapter to filter items in list. I have implemented onListItemClick() method to get clicked item position and call second activity using that value. For example I have countries in my list: Australia Belgium Botswana Belize ... Belgium has position 1 here. However, if i type "Be" to filter items, I get one item as a result: Belgium Now if I click on this item, I get position 0 in onListItemClick(). But this behavior does not fit my needs. How can I get this item's unfiltered position (eg. 1 instead of 0)?

    Hi ! I have come to a problem, wich I have no idea how to solve. Can anyone think outside the box and point me to right directions? I would be very thankfull ! The problem. I have a UITableView containing a first row wich is always the same (a empty row with repeating background) Next rows are bounch of dynamic data rows. I have set the yellow background on my UITableView in IBuilder, My cells (except first row) have white background with code: UIView* backgroundView = [ [ [ UIView alloc ] initWithFrame:CGRectZero ] autorelease ]; backgroundView.backgroundColor = [UIColor colorWithRed: 0.96078431372549 green: 0.96078431372549 blue: 0.96078431372549 alpha: 1.0]; cell.backgroundView = backgroundView; for ( UIView* view in cell.contentView.subviews ) { view.backgroundColor = [ UIColor clearColor ]; } The example yellow background, I only want to be showed at the top. As u see img example below. The thing is I dont want to have yellow background under the last datarow, I want to contain same white color I have on the cells. This should be white as the cells.   • Problem pushing multiple view controllers onto navigation controller stack

    Hi, I am trying to push three view controllers onto the navigation controller. [self.navigationController pushViewController:one animated:YES]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:two animated:YES]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:three animated:YES]; The desired behavior is that view three will show, and when the back button is pressed it will go to view two and then to view one... What actually happens is that view one is visible and pressing back goes to view two and then back again it goes to view one. Which is to say that view one is shown instead of view three. Very strangely, looking at the viewController array of the navigationController after the calls above show the right entries, and looking at the visibleViewController property shows that it has view three in it... even though view one is visible. If i navigate to a sub view from the visible view one (that shows in the place of view three) and press back from that sub view... it goes to view three. It looks like it is showing view one, but knows it is on view three... I am completely confused... any ideas? Jim

    I always take precautions regarding SQL INJECTION ATTACKS when data is saved between someone's iPhone and a remote database on the cloud. But is it also necessary to do the same... when just saving data (using sqlite) from someone's cell phone, to a database that's just on their own phone? What's the worse they can do? Delete their own data (or tables) on their own phone? (If they really try hard enough.) Thanks.

  • Android Plugin in Eclipse 3.5 on Ubuntu 64bit got problems with properties

    Hi there! I got a huge problem with the Android Development Tools ADT running in Eclipse Galileo (3.5.1) on Ubuntu 9.10, 64bit. On this platform, I do not manage to see any property edit dialogs for layout properties. E.g. the one where you can select a string resource ID for text fields, or a drawable ID for image fields or backgrounds. Whenever I click on the ... button next to the property value - nothing happens, except this button disappears. Properties with a list of possible values, e.g. "wrap_content" or "fill_parent" are displayed in a dropdown box directly in the properties field. On a different system I work in a Windows environment with Eclipse 3.4 and the same ADT: no problems whatsoever, everything works fine, the dialogs come perfectly. Does anyone know what to do here? Where's the problem? Why does Eclipse not tell me that something goes wrong? Thanks! NEW DISCOVERIES: I found out that it might not even be an Android problem, but a general Eclipse problem that I can see with all version (Ganymede, Galileo, Helios) on my Linux (Ubuntu) system. It must be a simple UI problem: the button with ... next to the values does not receive the mouse click!! I managed to see the appropriate dialogs to edit the property values by doubleclicking the button - crazy, strange, ugly behavior! But why on earth does nobody else know about this problem - I cannot find anything else on the net about it! Could it be related to this strange "GDK native window problem" on Gnome? HELP!

    I read somewhere (and have observed) that starting threads is slow. I always assumed that AsyncTask created and reused a single thread because it required being started inside the UI thread. The following (anonymized) code is called from a ListAdapter's getView method to load images asynchronously. It's not working by default and there's no option in interface builder like there is for uiwebviews so I imagine I need to programmatically tell the app to dial the number when the cell is tapped.
