I'm trying to scrape the entire iTunes App Store so that I can store it in a database for a project I'm working on. I'm having a hard time finding the best way to do this. I know there are ways to get specific information about price changes but I can't find anything that describes how to scrape the entire app store.
Any additional info is appreciated.
I have a custom UIViewController in a UITabbarController and want to respond to rotation events. When a rotation occurs, the tabbarcontroller and the viewcontroller get rotated. However, the view in the viewcontroller doesn't get redrawn properly: the layout doesn't autoresize and it is black on parts of the screen.
The strange thing is that it works when I go to another tab and the back again to my original viewcontroller.
What could possibly be wrong? I checked that didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation:fromInterfaceOrientation is being called. However, the view.frame.size values are still the old ones from before the rotation. That's probably not correct.
I have an activity, where the ListView holds customized linear layout elements for each row. One of the rows has a button defined as:
<Button
android:text="Pick a contact"
android:id="@+id/btnPickContact"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:gravity="center_vertical"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"></Button>
Then in java, I have this code:
((Button) row.findViewById(R.id.btnPickContact)).setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
@Override
public void onClick(View v) {
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK, ContactsContract.Contacts.CONTENT_URI);
intent.putExtra(EXTRA_ONLINE_ID, (String)v.getTag(TAG_ONLINE_ID));
act.startActivityForResult(intent, PICK_CONTACT);
}
});
In this setup the event fails to start.
Also I've tried by implementing the interface:
@Override
public void onClick(View v) {
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK, ContactsContract.Contacts.CONTENT_URI);
intent.putExtra(EXTRA_ONLINE_ID, (String)v.getTag(TAG_ONLINE_ID));
startActivityForResult(intent, PICK_CONTACT);
}
still no luck, the event doesn't fire.
What to do?
I am working on an iPhone app and am getting (null) references to IBOutlet fields in my controller. I have a UIViewController subclass that is set as the File's Owner in my XIB. I have a set of UI elements that are wired into the controller. After loading from NIB and attempting to set properties on those UI elements, I find that they are (null). To clarify, some code:
ExpandSearchPageController.h:
@interface ExpandSearchPageController : UIViewController
{
IBOutlet UITextView * completeMessageView;
}
-(void)checkTextField;
@property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UITextView * completeMessageView;
ExpandSearchPageController.m:
@implementation ExpandSearchPageController
@synthesize completeMessageView;
-(void)checkTextField
{
NSLog(@"text field: %@",completeMessageView);
}
ExpandSearchPageController is set as the File's Owner for ExpandSearchPage.xib. ExpandSearchPage.xib's UITextView is wired to the completeMessageView.
When I call
ExpandSearchPageController * searchExpanderPage = [[ExpandSearchPageController alloc] initWithNibName:@"ExpandSearchPage" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]];
[searchExpanderPage checkTextField];
the result is
"text field: (null)"
Sorry if this is a total newb question, but I guess I'm still a newb at iPhone programming!
Thanks in advance!
Hi all,
I want to use mobile substrate to "hook" some code into IPhone's "MobileCal" app so that the injected code will send a notification to my app MobileCal gets a call notification. But I'm out of luck and no clue which method need to be replaced by my "hooking" method in the "MobileCal" app.
For example, the "MobileLog" and "iRealSMS" has the same functionality and they used mobile substrate to hook their code into "MobileCal" app.
If any one has any clue, I would definitely appreciate them.
Why didn't Apple implement copy and paste prior to iPhone OS 3.0? The answers I don't think are correct (but I could certainly be wrong) are:
They couldn't figure out how to do it and provide a good user experience
Some crazy multi-tasking or battery limitation
iPhone users didn't want or need it (this was Microsoft's argument and is totally specious)
Thoughts?
I am developing an iPhone application for jail broken phones and in this application I would like to fetch user's phone number.
I have gone through the entire stackoverflow.com and found some relevant answers but all of them are obsolete and doesn't work with iOS 4.0 anymore.
The most famous solution for this problem is
NSString *num = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] stringForKey:@"SBFormattedPhoneNumber"];
but as I mentioned this solution no more works with iOS 4.0
As my application is intended towards the jail broken phones and not intended the Apple app store so I am not worried about my app rejection, hence any private API will also work for me.
Also please let me know if we can fetch IMSI number from SIM using any private APIs of iPhone
I would like to place a view at the top of a UIScrollView (UITableView) but have it snap like the search bar does in that you can scroll down and it won't snap back to show the search bar but you can also scroll down to see it.
I have developed a game for iPhone using coco2d 0.99.3. I want it to work on iPad. I have the new images which are bigger in size and resolution than iPhone images.
I replaced the images and checked, but the image is appearing only in iPhone simulator which is inside the iPad simulator.
What changes shall I make ?
Thank You.
I'm sure this is some easy-to-fix issue that I've missed, but I can't figure it out. I've got a grouped table view with 3 sections. I'm using the following code to generate section headers:
-(NSString*)tableView:(UITableView*)tableView titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section {
if (section == 0) {
NSString *header = @"Header 1";
return header;
}
if (section == 1) {
NSString *header = @"Header 2";
return header;
}
else {
NSString *header = @"Header 3";
return header;
}
}
When my table is displayed, there are two headers for each section - one with white text on a gray bar that stretches across the screen (like the letter separators in the Contacts app), and one in gray text on the table background (which is the one I want). Both headers have identical text. Where is the first header coming from?
I have an seen how NSXMLDocument can parse and html document, and provide easy methods for returning parts of the html structure.
Is there a similar method that can be used for the iPhone, as NSXMLDocument is not available?
From what I have read this is supposed to be when the linker (not exactly sure how that works) can't find a symbol. the symbol in question is: SCNetworkReachabilityCreateWithAddress as can be seen from the full error message below.
the thing is that the correct
framework is added to my target.
xcode recognises the symbol OK, i.e.
there is no error message in the .m
file.
the .m file is added to the correct
target so I'm not at all sure what to
do.
Any ideas please?
"SCNetworkReachabilityCreateWithAddress", referenced from:

I'm logging gps points during a walk. Below it shows the function that the coordinates are saved each 5 seconds.
i Did several tests but i cannot get the right accuracy i want. (When testing the sky is clear also tests in google maps shows me that the gps signal is good).
here is the code:
-(void)viewDidAppear:(BOOL)animated{
if (self.locationManager == nil){
self.locationManager = [[[CLLocationManager alloc] init] autorelease];
locationManager.delegate = self;
// only notify under 100 m accuracy
locationManager.distanceFilter = 100.0f;
locationManager.desiredAccuracy= kCLLocationAccuracyBest;
[locationManager startUpdatingLocation];
}
}
- start logging
[NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:5 target:self selector:@selector(getData) userInfo:nil repeats:YES];
</code>
<code>
-(void)getData{
int distance;
// re-use location.
if ([ [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%1.2f",previousLat] isEqualToString:@"0.00"]){
// if previous location is not available, do nothing
distance = 0;
}else{
CLLocation *loc1 = [[CLLocation alloc] initWithLatitude:previousLat longitude:previousLong];
CLLocation *loc2 = [[CLLocation alloc] initWithLatitude:latGlobal longitude:longGlobal];
distance = [loc1 getDistanceFrom: loc2];
}
// overwrite latGlobal with new variable
previousLat = latGlobal;
previousLong = longGlobal;
// store location and save data to database
// this part goes ok
}
- (void)locationManager:(CLLocationManager *)manager didUpdateToLocation:(CLLocation *)newLocation fromLocation:(CLLocation *)oldLocation {
// track the time to get a new gps result (for gps indicator orb)
lastPointTimestamp = [newLocation.timestamp copy];
// test that the horizontal accuracy does not indicate an invalid measurement
if (newLocation.horizontalAccuracy < 0) return;
// test the age of the location measurement to determine if the measurement is cached
// don't rely on cached measurements
NSTimeInterval locationAge = -[newLocation.timestamp timeIntervalSinceNow];
if (locationAge > 5.0) return;
latGlobal = fabs(newLocation.coordinate.latitude);
longGlobal= fabs(newLocation.coordinate.longitude);
}
I have taken a screenshot of the plot results (the walk takes 30 minutes) and an example of what i'am trying to acomplish:

i really hope someone can put me in the right direction.
Hi there,
I'm working on an iPad app and here's my scenario:
I have a view which contains a table view inside of it. When the user selects an item on the table view, I would like the parent's view to change in a navigational manner. For those of you that have an iPad, this would be akin to the "Settings" app. But I guess in the "Settings" app, the right pane is composed of a grouped table view right?
Is what I'm trying to do possible?
Thanks
Hi,
I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea on how you can create a view that looks like the user profile view in apps like Tweetie, where there are seemingly multiple tables with a couple of normal (straight up and down tables) and then two rows of six cells, which in Tweeties case have the number of followers, following etc.
I'm trying to make a similar view for my app, but can't seem to find out the best way to create it. Any tutorials, advice etc. would be appreciated.
Thanks.
P.S. Here's a picture of the view which I'm trying to recreate.
How do I get the contents of the documents directory as a NSMutableArray?
I can get it as a normal NSArray, but as soon as I try to do anything with that array, my app crashes.
Thanks
I have a UIView that I want to load when the user clicks a button. There happens to be some data processing that happens as well after I call addSubview that involves parsing an XML file retrieved from the web. The problem is the view doesn't show up until after the data processing even if addSuview is called first. I think I'm missing something here, can anyone help?
Code: I have a "Loading..." view I'm adding as a custom modal (meaning I'm not using the modalViewController). This action is linked to a button in the navigationController.
- (IBAction)parseXml:(id)sender {
LoadingModalViewController *loadingModal = [[LoadingModalViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"LoadingModalViewController" bundle:nil];
[navigationController.view addSubview:loadingModal.view];
[xmlParser parse];
}
Hi, I'm trying to modify the SurfaceView I use for doing a camera preview in order to display an overlaying square. However, the onDraw method of the extended SurfaceView is never called.
Here is the source :
public class CameraPreviewView extends SurfaceView {
protected final Paint rectanglePaint = new Paint();
public CameraPreviewView(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) {
super(context, attrs);
rectanglePaint.setARGB(255, 200, 0, 0);
rectanglePaint.setStyle(Paint.Style.FILL);
rectanglePaint.setStrokeWidth(2);
}
@Override
protected void onDraw(Canvas canvas){
canvas.drawRect(new Rect(10,10,200,200), rectanglePaint);
Log.w(this.getClass().getName(), "On Draw Called");
}
}
public class CameraPreview extends Activity implements SurfaceHolder.Callback{
private SurfaceHolder holder;
private Camera camera;
@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState){
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
// We remove the status bar, title bar and make the application fullscreen
requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE);
getWindow().setFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_FULLSCREEN,
WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_FULLSCREEN);
// We set the content view to be the layout we made
setContentView(R.layout.camera_preview);
// We register the activity to handle the callbacks of the SurfaceView
CameraPreviewView surfaceView = (CameraPreviewView) findViewById(R.id.camera_surface);
holder = surfaceView.getHolder();
holder.addCallback(this);
holder.setType(SurfaceHolder.SURFACE_TYPE_PUSH_BUFFERS);
}
public void surfaceChanged(SurfaceHolder holder, int format, int width,
int height) {
Camera.Parameters params = camera.getParameters();
params.setPreviewSize(width, height);
camera.setParameters(params);
try {
camera.setPreviewDisplay(holder);
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
camera.startPreview();
}
public void surfaceCreated(SurfaceHolder holder) {
camera = Camera.open();
}
public void surfaceDestroyed(SurfaceHolder holder) {
camera.stopPreview();
camera.release();
}
}

I think I am going crazy right now. I am trying to create a spinner populated by a datatable but for some reason the dropdown list items text is not being displayed. I have looked all over and have seen other posts with people having this same problem. Can anyone help??
speciesList = (Spinner) findViewById(R.id.speciesList);
spinnerCursor = nsfdb.fetchAllSpecies();
startManagingCursor(spinnerCursor);
//String []cArrayList = new String[]{"dog", "cat", "horse", "other"};
String[] from = new String[]{"species"};
int[] to = new int[]{R.id.text1};
SimpleCursorAdapter locations = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, R.layout.loc_row, spinnerCursor, from, to);
locations.setDropDownViewResource(android.R.layout.simple_spinner_dropdown_item);
speciesList.setAdapter(locations);
The spinner gets created just fine and is populated with 4 items but whenever I click on the spinner I see 4 items with no text and just radiobuttons. If I select any of them I am getting the correct selected item value but there is just no data displayed.
