  This seems like a fairly simple question, and I'm surprised not to have required it before. What is the most efficient way of testing a string input is a numeric (or conversely Not A Number). I guess I can do a Double.Parse or a regex (see below) public static bool IsNumeric(this string value) { return Regex.IsMatch(value, "^\\d+$"); } but I was wondering if there was a implemented way to do it, such as javascript's NaN() or IsNumeric() (was that VB, I can't remember).

I know you can use regex but I also know people can write their script tags so many ways that you can fool the regex into thinking it is OK. I also heard that HTML Agility Pack is good so I am wondering is there any script removal class made for it?

  I want to provide for partial matching, so I am tacking on * to the end of search queries. What I've noticed is that a search query of gatorade will return 12 results whereas gatorade* returns 7. So * seems to be 1 or many as opposed to 0 or many ... how can I achieve this? Am I going about partial matching in Solr all wrong? Thanks.

What I want is to preserve the '\' in the regex - is there some other JSON-friendly way to escape it?

I tried (and assumed this would work) SELECT count(*) FROM records WHERE status = 'ADP' LIMIT 0,10 and I assumed this would tell me how many records of status ADP were in that set of 10 records. It doesn't - it returns, in this case 30, which is the total number of ADP records in the table. How do I just count up the records matching my criteria including the limit?

  Is there a way to find all possible start positions for a regex match in perl? For example, if your regex was "aa" and the text was "aaaa", it would return 0, 1, and 2, instead of, say 0 and 2. Obviously, you could just do something like return the first match, and then delete all characters up to and including that starting character, and perform another search, but I'm hoping for something more efficient.

  I'm trying to write a store procedure that can take some input parameters (obviously), run multiple queries against those, taking the output from those and doing calculations, and from those calculations and the original queries, outputting a formatted text string like: Number of Rows for max(Z) matching condition x and y of total rows matching x (x&y/x*100). To explain the max(Z) bit, this will be the username field, it won't matter which actual entry is picked, because the where clause will filter the results by user id, is there a saner way to do this?

  I have been struggling for the past few days with this problem: Basically, I want to send to a client browser a cookie of the form foo[sha1oftheurl]=[randomvalue] if and only if the cookie has not already been set. e.g. If a client browser requests "/page.html", the HTTP response will be like: resp.http.Set-Cookie = "foo4c9ae249e9e061dd6e30893e03dc10a58cc40ee6=ABCD;" then, if the same client request "/index.html", the HTTP response will contain a header: resp.http.Set-Cookie = "foo14fe4559026d4c5b5eb530ee70300c52d99e70d7=QWERTY;" In the end, the client browser will have 2 cookies: foo4c9ae249e9e061dd6e30893e03dc10a58cc40ee6=ABCD foo14fe4559026d4c5b5eb530ee70300c52d99e70d7=QWERTY Now, that, is not complicated in itself. Which leads to this error when I try to compile: Message from VCC-compiler: Expected CSTR got 'req.http.regex' (program line 940), at ('input' Line 42 Pos 31) if(req.http.Cookie !~ req.http.regex) { ------------------------------##############--- Running VCC-compiler failed, exit 1 VCL compilation failed One could propose to solve my problem by matching on the "abtest" part of the cookie or even "abtest[a-fA-F0-9]{40}": if(!req.http.Cookie ~ "abtest[a-fA-F0-9]{40}") { set req.http.random-value = random.get_rand(); } But this code matches any cookie starting by 'abtest' and containing an hexadecimal string of 40 characters. Which means that if a client requests "/page.html" first, then "/index.html", the condition will evaluate to true even if the cookie for the "/index.html" has not been set. I found in bug report phk or someone else stating that computing regular expressions was extremely expensive which is why they are evaluated during compilation. Considering this, I believe that there is no way of achieving what I want the way I've been trying to. Is there any way of solving this problem, other than writting a vmod? • Handling HTTP 404 Error in ASP.NET Web API

          Introduction:                     Building modern HTTP/RESTful/RPC services has become very easy with the new ASP.NET Web API framework. Using ASP.NET Web API framework, you can create HTTP services which can be accessed from browsers, machines, mobile devices and other clients. Developing HTTP services is now become more easy for ASP.NET MVC developer becasue ASP.NET Web API is now included in ASP.NET MVC. In addition to developing HTTP services, it is also important to return meaningful response to client if a resource(uri) not found(HTTP 404) for a reason(for example, mistyped resource uri). It is also important to make this response centralized so you can configure all of 'HTTP 404 Not Found' resource at one place. In this article, I will show you how to handle 'HTTP 404 Not Found' at one place.         Description:                     Let's say that you are developing a HTTP RESTful application using ASP.NET Web API framework. In this application you need to handle HTTP 404 errors in a centralized location. From ASP.NET Web API point of you, you need to handle these situations, No route matched. Route is matched but no {controller} has been found on route. No type with {controller} name has been found. No matching action method found in the selected controller due to no action method start with the request HTTP method verb or no action method with IActionHttpMethodProviderRoute implemented attribute found or no method with {action} name found or no method with the matching {action} name found.                                          Now, let create a ErrorController with Handle404 action method. This action method will be used in all of the above cases for sending HTTP 404 response message to the client.  public class ErrorController : ApiController { [HttpGet, HttpPost, HttpPut, HttpDelete, HttpHead, HttpOptions, AcceptVerbs("PATCH")] public HttpResponseMessage Handle404() { var responseMessage = new HttpResponseMessage(HttpStatusCode.NotFound); responseMessage.ReasonPhrase = "The requested resource is not found"; return responseMessage; } }                     You can easily change the above action method to send some other specific HTTP 404 error response. If a client of your HTTP service send a request to a resource(uri) and no route matched with this uri on server then you can route the request to the above Handle404 method using a custom route. Put this route at the very bottom of route configuration,  routes.MapHttpRoute( name: "Error404", routeTemplate: "{*url}", defaults: new { controller = "Error", action = "Handle404" } );                     Now you need handle the case when there is no {controller} in the matching route or when there is no type with {controller} name found. You can easily handle this case and route the request to the above Handle404 method using a custom IHttpControllerSelector. Here is the definition of a custom IHttpControllerSelector, public class HttpNotFoundAwareDefaultHttpControllerSelector : DefaultHttpControllerSelector { public HttpNotFoundAwareDefaultHttpControllerSelector(HttpConfiguration configuration) : base(configuration) { } public override HttpControllerDescriptor SelectController(HttpRequestMessage request) { HttpControllerDescriptor decriptor = null; try { decriptor = base.SelectController(request); } catch (HttpResponseException ex) { var code = ex.Response.StatusCode; if (code != HttpStatusCode.NotFound) throw; var routeValues = request.GetRouteData().Values; routeValues["controller"] = "Error"; routeValues["action"] = "Handle404"; decriptor = base.SelectController(request); } return decriptor; } }                     Next, it is also required to pass the request to the above Handle404 method if no matching action method found in the selected controller due to the reason discussed above. This situation can also be easily handled through a custom IHttpActionSelector. Here is the source of custom IHttpActionSelector,  public class HttpNotFoundAwareControllerActionSelector : ApiControllerActionSelector { public HttpNotFoundAwareControllerActionSelector() { } public override HttpActionDescriptor SelectAction(HttpControllerContext controllerContext) { HttpActionDescriptor decriptor = null; try { decriptor = base.SelectAction(controllerContext); } catch (HttpResponseException ex) { var code = ex.Response.StatusCode; if (code != HttpStatusCode.NotFound && code != HttpStatusCode.MethodNotAllowed) throw; var routeData = controllerContext.RouteData; routeData.Values["action"] = "Handle404"; IHttpController httpController = new ErrorController(); controllerContext.Controller = httpController; controllerContext.ControllerDescriptor = new HttpControllerDescriptor(controllerContext.Configuration, "Error", httpController.GetType()); decriptor = base.SelectAction(controllerContext); } return decriptor; } }                     Finally, we need to register the custom IHttpControllerSelector and IHttpActionSelector.
