• Why can't I fetch an AOL captcha image in my Delphi program?

• DirectX works for 64-bit but not 32-bit

  I'm trying to play a game (Civilization 5) which was previously working but no longer. I believe I've narrowed it down to a DirectX issue because I get an error running dxdiag.exe in 32 bit mode. My goal (at least I believe) is to get Direct3D Acceleration "Enabled" in dxdiag (as it is in 64 bit dxdiag). A very similar issue is here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-gaming/direct3d-acceleration-is-not-available-in-windows/4c345e6e-dc68-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5?page=1 The proposed answer, which looks very promising, doesn't seem to work for me. Like other users in that thread, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Direct3D\Drivers does not have a SoftwareOnly key to change. I even tried manually adding it as a string and dword, to no avail. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M, and before you ask, yes I've tried updating (also uninstalling, reinstalling) my drivers. I've also tried doing the same with DirectX (and Civilization 5 for that matter). Been debugging for some 4+ hours now after a full day of work and I've run out of ideas. I'm hoping somebody knows the solution here! :) Here's what I see when I open dxdiag: DxDiag has detected that there mgiht have been a problem accessing Direct3D the last time this program was used. • Redirect all access requests to a domain and subdomain(s) except from specific IP address? [closed]

  This is a self-answered question... After much wrangling I found the magic combination of mod_rewrite rules so I'm posting here. My scenario is that I have two domains - domain1.com and domain2.com - both of which are currently serving identical content (by way of a global 301 redirect from domain1 to domain2). Domain1 was then chosen to be repurposed to be a 'portal' domain - with a corporate CMS-based site leading off from the front page, and the existing 'retail' domain (domain2) left to serve the main web site. In addition, a staging subdomain was created on domain1 in order to prepare the new corporate site without impinging on the root domain's existing operation. I contemplated just rewriting all requests to domain2 and setting up the new corporate site 'behind the scenes' without using a staging domain, but I usually use subdomains when setting up new sites. Finally, I required access to the 'actual' contents of the domains and subdomains - i.e., to not be redirected like all other visitors - in order that I can develop the new site and test it in the staging environment on the live server, as I'm not using a separate development webserver in this case. I also have another test subdomain on domain1 which needed to be preserved. The way I eventually set it up was as follows: (10.2.2.1 would be my home WAN IP) .htaccess in root of domain1 RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REMOTE_ADDR} !^10\.2\.2\.1 RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^staging.domain1.com$ [NC] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^staging2.domain1.com$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://domain2.com/$1 [R=301] .htaccess in staging subdomain on domain1: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REMOTE_ADDR} !^10\.2\.2\.1 RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^staging.revolver.coop$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://domain2.com/$1 [R=301,L] The multiple .htaccess files and multiple rulesets require more processing overhead and longer iteration as the visitor is potentially redirected twice, however I find it to be a more granular method of control as I can selectively allow more than one IP address access to individual staging subdomain(s) without automatically granting them access to everything else. It also keeps the rulesets fairly simple and easy to read. (or re-interpret, because I'm always forgetting how I put rules together!) If anybody can suggest a more efficient way of merging all these rules and conditions into just one main ruleset in the root of domain1, please post! I'm always keen to learn, this post is more my attempt to preserve this information for those who are looking to redirect entire domains for all visitors except themselves (for design/testing purposes) and not just denying specific file access for maintenance mode (there are many good examples of simple mod_rewrite rules for 'maintenance mode' style operation easily findable via Google). You can also extend the IP address detection - firstly by using wildcards ^10\.2\.2\..*: the last octet's \..* denotes the usual "." and then "zero or more arbitrary characters", signified by the .* - so you can specify specific ranges of IPs in a subnet or entire subnets if you wish. You can also use square brackets: ^10\.2\.[1-255]\.[120-140]; ^10\.2\.[1-9]?[0-9]\.; ^10\.2\.1[0-1][0-9]\. etc. The third way, if you wish to specify multiple discrete IP addresses, is to bracket them in the style of ^(1.1.1.1|2.2.2.2|3.3.3.3)$, and you can of course use square brackets to substitute octets or single digits again. NB: if you're using individual RewriteCond lines to specify multiple IPs / ranges, make sure to put [OR] at the end of each one otherwise mod_rewrite will interpret as "if IP address matches 1.1.1.1 AND if IP address matches 2.2.2.2... which is of course impossible! However as far as I'm aware this isn't necessary if you're using the ! negator to specify "and is not...". Kudos also to SE: this older question also came in useful when I was verifying my own knowledge prior to my futzing around with code.   A common 'Perlism' is generating a list as something to loop over in this form: for($str=~/./g) { print "the next character from \"$str\"=$_\n"; } In this case the global match regex returns a list that is one character in turn from the string $str, and assigns that value to $_ Instead of a regex, split can be used in the same way or 'a'..'z', map, etc. I am investigating unpack to generate a field by field interpretation of a string. I have always found unpack to be less straightforward to the way my brain works, and I have never really dug that deeply into it. As a simple case, I want to generate a list that is one character in each element from a string using unpack (yes -- I know I can do it with split(//,$str) and /./g but I really want to see if unpack can be used this way...) Obviously, I can use a field list for unpack that is unpack("A1" x length($str), $str) but is there some other way that kinda looks like globbing? ie, can I call unpack(some_format,$str) either in list context or in a loop such that unpack will return the next group of character in the format group until $str is exausted? • Trying to find USB device on iphone with IOKit.framework

  Hi all, i'm working on a project were i need the usb port to communicate with a external device. I have been looking for exemple on the net (Apple and /developer/IOKit/usb exemple) and trying some other but i can't even find the device. In my code i blocking at the place where the fucntion looks for a next iterator (pointer in fact) with the function getNextIterator but never returns a good value so the code is blocking. By the way i am using toolchain and added IOKit.framework in my project. All i what right now is the communicate or do like a ping to someone on the USB bus!! I blocking in the 'FindDevice'....i can't manage to enter in the while because the variable usbDevice is always = to 0....i have tested my code in a small mac program and it works... • SyntaxHighlighter and Line Break Tags

I cannot replace the whole thing with System.Environment.NewLine since it will mess up the complete description. • JavaScript Keycode 46 is DEL Function key or (.) period sign?

The problem is: in some Browsers the DEL and '.' (period sign) have the same key Code 46. So is there a better logic to filter the function keys or must i write a condition for that case, maybe removing the 46 from the array and try to convert it to char and if is (.) let it go to the Regex function if not let it pass? The other question will be are there more shared Key Codes in some browsers? EDIT: My suggested solution wont work because it doesn't matter which key the user pressed (DEL or period) i always get (.) as CHAR at least on OPERA and FF =(.

• How can I perform this query between related tables without using UNION?

  Suppose I have two separate tables that I watch to query. Both of these tables has a relation with a third table. How can I query both tables with a single, non UNION based query? I want the result of the search to rank the results by comparing a field on each table. Here's a theoretical example. I have a User table. That User can have both CDs and books. I want to find all of that user's books and CDs with a single query matching a string ("awesome" in this example). A UNION based query might look like this: SELECT "book" AS model, name, ranking FROM book WHERE name LIKE 'Awesome%' UNION SELECT "cd" AS model, name, ranking FROM cd WHERE name LIKE 'Awesome%' ORDER BY ranking DESC How can I perform a query like this without the UNION? If I do a simple left join from User to Books and CDs, we end up with a total number of results equal to the number of matching cds timse the number of matching books. Is there a GROUP BY or some other way of writing the query to fix this?

• Need help debugging a huge chunk of JSON data...

  I have a huge chunk, so large that I can't manually edit the file and need to read it in and do regex operations to see what's wrong. Basically - my server is PHP 5.1.6 and I can't update it. • grep is inconsistently defaulting to grep -P?

  I have a script that does some housekeeping that works perfectly well when invoked from an interactive shell, but did nothing when invoked by cron. To troubleshoot this I started a shell with a 'blank' environment with the command: env -i /bin/bash --noprofile --norc Using this blank env I've dug into my script and found that the following grep will not match any files: grep -il "^ws_status\s*=\s*[\"']remove[\"']$" However, when run from an interactive shell the command will return the filenames of the matching files. As a note, the expression is matching lines like: WS_STATUS = "remove" Through trial-and-error I discovered that adding -P to the options [Perl regex] the command started working normally in the 'blank' shell. However, I have no idea why my login shell appears to be defaulted to grep -P. There is only one grep binary, /bin/grep There are no aliases defined for grep=pgrep or grep="grep -P" There is no env variable GREP_OPTIONS defined. What's the deal here? Note: OS is RHEL v5.10, Bash is v3.2.25, grep is v2.5.1

• How can I tell if my Amazon Windows instance was an SQL Server AMI?

  I want to purchase some reserved instances, because I have several instances already created and running 24 hours a day. When I go to purchase a Windows instance, I can see 3 options, Windows Windows with SQL Server Standard Windows with SQL server Web I don't know which of these was used to create the original instance. Is there a way I can find out? My assumptions: the instance type is is important because as far as I understand, the way to purchase a reserved instance is to first have a running instance, and then purchase a matching reserved instance. The reserved instance is not itself a new machine, but a kind of contract between you and Amazon to pay for an instance for 1 or 3 years, at a discounted rate. The contracted, reserved instance will "offset" one matching running instance where they have the same size and platform. Please feel free to correct me if these assumptions are incorrect.

• Customizing post-commit messages in svn for different users

  I have an svn repository that users can access (read/write) using their account OR via tunneling over ssh with svnserve. I also have a post-commit hook that sends mails to specific users for different projects via svnnotify: the typical command is svnnotify <params> --to-regex-map <list of email IDs> <regex> For users who have accounts on the system, the notification email is sent from @machine.domain, which is fine. For users coming in via tunnelling, the email gets sent from @machine.domain, which is a fake address since these users don't have an account - the only reason I specify a tunnel-user id is to keep track of who made which update. So my question (finally) is: is there a way to pass a parameter (the "true" email address) to svnserve so that when the post-commit mail is sent, it can be sent "from" the correct email address ? p.s this is my first post here - if I haven't provided sufficient information, apologies: I'm happy to provide more details.

  I am trying to use MATCH() and/or LOOKUP() in LibreOffice Calc. I have the "Search criteria = and < must apply to whole cells" and the "Enable regular expressions in formulas" options selected. The item I am looking for is a multi word string. How do I provide a search criteria as a cell reference (E3) in to LOOKUP(E3, B1:B20, C1:C20) and have it match the value in B1:B20 EXACTLY? Right now it is matching partial strings rather than matching the cell values exactly.

• How to remove line breaks (or carriage returns) only from certain parts of a block of text?

  Whenever I copy formatted text from a PDF file which is formatted to have line breaks (or carriage returns), I need to find a way to remove these line breaks without removing the paragraph format. To do this I need to use RegEx (Regular expressions) to only remove the line breaks which aren't preceded by a period. So for example, if a string of text has a line break right after a period, that is obviously almost always a legitimate line break which will start a new paragraph. If a string of text has a line break mid-word or after a word with no period, it's simply part of the bad formatting I need to get rid of. My problem is that I don't know how to use RegEx to make it only remove the ^p tags in word or CRLF or line breaks in any format under the conditions that it omits ones following a period.

  For our membership database we are currently using an old DOS program "Arclist". The program is old but the one feature we desperately need in a database program is to be able to enter multiple criteria at one time for more of a "one time" extraction of the data meeting all the various criteria entered in what I call a "criteria string". An example may be extracting only those records with zip codes matching (67893, 54235, 54323, 54201, 54302, 54303, 54301, 67894, 67895). Another set of criteria might be to omit records, not equal to, one type of criteria in one field and also extract records matching criteria in another field. So we would want records "not equal to" in one field, but whose information equals requested information in another field.

• Webcam microphone input in Gnome/pulseaudio

  Just got a "Trust" webcam, which gets recognized on my Ubuntu Lucid. It has a built in microphone - which also gets recognized - however, I cannot really get it to act as the system microphone input? Here are some screenshots of what is shown by gnome-volume-control: The default window shows Trust webcam - which has two profiles: "Analog Mono Input" and "Off" - of course, I have it on "Analog Mono Input": However, on the "Input" tab - there is no matching "device for sound input" - neither a matching connector: Then I installed pavucontrol - but that doesn't show that much more; it tells first that gnome-volume-control reads from "Internal Audio Analog Stereo": Then in "Input devices" tab, there is again nothing resembling the mic input from webcam: Finally, under "Configuration" tab, the "Trust" webcam shows, but even if its profile is on "Analog Mono Input", nothing much happens:   So, does anyone know how I could get this webcam microphone to be recognized as the system input? • International Dvorak keyboard doesn't trigger hot-keys

  I'm using the Engilsh-Dvorak keyboard-layout; My second keyboard language is Hebrew, which has nothing to do with Dvorak but the hot keys (e.g if I'm writing a document in Hebrew and want to make some bold text using Ctrl+b). The default Hebrew keyboard that comes with Windows (7 and below) has a shift mode which matches each Hebrew character with its matching English QWERTY character ). Obviously I'd want to use the Dvorak corresponding key rather than the QWERTY one, so I created a Hebrew-Dvorak keyboard with a software called Keyboard Layout Manager (KLM) which creates new keyboard layouts DLLs. It works just fine for the shift key, however, Ctrl-key triggered hot-keys (e.g Ctrl+l in FF) are being matched to the corresponding QWERTY key. I've examined the properly working English-Dvorak layout using KLM and in it's "Ctrl+ pressed" view, there isn't any character that's matched to any key but still I tried to encode the Hebrew Ctrl+ pressed keys to work with their matching Dvorak keys, yet it had no effect.
