    Is it possible to redirect MySQL (tcp) traffic to multiple servers based on domain name alone? Our DNS is setup to point several sub-domain aliases to one proxy machine. (running haproxy and iptables).   • mysql 5.0.23 vs 5.5 performance benefits and upgrade issues?

    I have been told that mysql 5.5 has a significant performance boost compared to 5.0 Our server handles a lot of data (around 30 million records processed per 5-10 seconds) and requires every drop of performance boost we can give. Will it be beneficial if we upgrade from 5.0.23 to mysql 5.5? Also, we have lots of database indexes setup on the tables and I've been told that sometimes the indexes become corrupt after a version upgrade and they have to be rebuilt. Is this true?

    After freshly installing Ubuntu server 12.04, I did the usual apt-get update / apt-get upgrade, which failed for mysql-server-5.5: Setting up mysql-server-5.5 (5.5.31-0ubuntu0.12.04.2) ... start: Job failed to start invoke-rc.d: initscript mysql, action "start" failed. dpkg: error processing mysql-server-5.5 (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of mysql-server: mysql-server depends on mysql-server-5.5; however: Package mysql-server-5.5 is not configured yet. dpkg: error processing mysql-server (--configure): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured I tried a wide variety a approaches suggested by googling, which involved various combinations of apt-get remove/purge/install -f/reinstall, etc., with no luck. I also tried downloading the package directly from launchpad.net and running dpkg -i on it (this had worked for a similar issue with a kernel upgrade), but to no avail. I'm not actually particularly interested in what's going on with mysql, per se (though I will need to figure it out at some time); at this point, my primary concern is that I am unable to apt-get install other packages! What to do?

    Hi, basically, I have 3 tables; users and projects (which is a many-to-many relationship), then I have 'usersprojects' to allow the one-to-many formation. When a user adds a project, I need the project information stored and then the 'userid' and 'projectid' stored in the usersprojects table. It sounds like its really straight forward but I'm having problems with the syntax I think!? As it stands, I have this as my INSERT queries (values going into 2 different tables): $project_id = $_POST['project_id']; $projectname = $_POST['projectname']; $projectdeadline = $_POST['projectdeadline']; $projectdetails = $_POST['projectdetails']; $user_id = $_POST['user_id']; $sql = "INSERT INTO projects (projectid, projectname, projectdeadline, projectdetails) VALUES ('{$projectid}','{$projectname}','{$projectdeadline}','{$projectdetails}')"; $sql = "INSERT INTO usersprojects (userid, projectid) VALUES ('{$userid}','{$projectid}')"; None of the information is being stored in the projects table, but the user ID is being stored in the usersprojects table (but not project ID!?)... I did have it working where the project information is stored correctly with a project ID, before I added this bit: $sql = "INSERT INTO usersprojects (userid, projectid) VALUES ('{$userid}','{$projectid}')"; But before the code above was put in, obviously no info is being stored in usersprojects table.   • Can not delete row from MySQL

    Howdy all, I've got a table, which won't delete a row. Specifically, when I try to delete any row with a GEO_SHAPE_ID over 150000000 it simply does not disappear from the DB. I have tried: SQLyog to erase it. DELETE FROM TABLE WHERE GEO_SHAPE_ID = 150000042 (0 rows affected). UNLOCK TABLES then 2. As far as I am aware, bigint is a valid candidate for auto_increment. Anyone know what could be up? You gotta help us, Doc. We’ve tried nothin’ and we’re all out of ideas! DJS. PS. Here is the table construct and some sample data just for giggles.   • Insert Registration Data in MySQL using PHP

    I may not be asking this in the best way possible but i will try my hardest. Thank you ahead of time for your help: I am creating an enrollment website which allows an individual OR manager to enroll for medical testing services for professional athletes. I will NOT be using the site as a query DB which anybody can view information stored within the database. The information is instead simply stored, and passed along in a CSV format to our network provider so they can use as needed after the fact. There are two possible scenarios: Scenario 1 - Individual Enrollment If an individual athlete chooses to enroll him/herself, they enter their personal information, submit their payment information (credit/bank account) for processing, and their information is stored in an online database as Athlete1. Scenario 2 - Manager Enrollment If a manager chooses to enroll several athletes he manages/ promotes for, he enters his personal information, then enters the personal information for each athlete he wishes to pay for (name, address, ssn, dob, etc), then submits payment information for ALL athletes he is enrolling. This number can range from 1 single athlete, up to 20 athletes per single enrollment (he can return and complete a follow up enrollment for additional athletes). Initially, I was building the database to house ALL information regardless of enrollment type in a single table which housed over 400 columns (think 20 athletes with over 10 fields per athlete such as name, dob, ssn, etc). Now that I think about it more, I believe create multiple tables (manager(s), athlete(s)) may be a better idea here but still not quite sure how to go about it for the following very important reasons: Issue 1 If I list the manager as the parent table, I am afraid the individual enrolling athlete will not show up in the primary table and will not be included in the overall registration file which needs to be sent on to the network providers. Issue 2 All athletes being enrolled by a manager are being stored in SESSION as F1FirstName, F2FirstName where F1 and F2 relate to the id of the fighter. I am not sure technically speaking how to store multiple pieces of information within the same table under separate rows using PHP. For example, all athleteswill have a first name. The very basic theory of what i am trying to do is: If number_of_athletes 1, store F1FirstName in row 1, column 1 of Table "Athletes"; store F1LastName in row 1, column 2 of Table "Athletes"; store F2FirstName in row 2, column 1 of Table "Athletes"; store F2LastName in row 2, column 2 of table "Athletes"; Does this make sense? I know this question is very long and probably difficult so i appreciate the guidance.

    I'm a hobbyist, and started learning PHP last September solely to build a hobby website that I had always wished and dreamed another more competent person might make. I enjoy programming, but I have little free time and enjoy a wide range of other interests and activities. I feel learning PHP alone can probably allow me to create 98% of the desired features for my site, but that last 2% is awfully appealing: The most powerful tool of the site is an advanced search page that picks through a 1000+ record game scenario database. Users can data-mine to tremendous depths - this advanced page has upwards of 50 different potential variables. It's designed to allow the hardcore user to search on almost any possible combination of data in our database and it works well. Those who aren't interested in wading through the sea of options may use the Basic Search, which is comprised of the most popular parts of the Advanced search. Because the advanced search is so comprehensive, and because the database is rather small (less than 1,200 potential hits maximum), with each variable you choose to include the likelihood of getting any qualifying results at all drops dramatically. In my fantasy land where I can wield AJAX as if it were Excalibur, my users would have a realtime Total Results counter in the corner of their screen as they used this page, which would automatically update its query structure and report how many results will be displayed with the addition of each variable. In this way it would be effortless to know just how many variables are enough, and when you've gone and added one that zeroes out the results set. A somewhat similar implementation, at least visually, would be the Subtotal sidebar when building a new custom computer on IBuyPower.com For those of you actually still reading this, my question is really rather simple: Given the time & ability constraints outlined above, would I be able to learn just enough AJAX (or whatever) needed to pull this one feature off without too much trouble? would I be able to more or less drop-in a pre-written code snippet and tweak to fit? or should I consider opening my code up to a trusted & capable individual in the future for this implementation?     I have an events table that has user_id, date ('2013-10-01'), time ('04:15:00'), and status_id; What I am looking to find is a solution similar to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2665574/find-consecutive-rows-calculate-duration but I need I need two additional components: 1) Take date into consideration, so 10/1/2013 at 11:00 PM - 10/2/2013 at 3:00AM. Feel free to just put in a fake date range (like '2013-10-01' to '2013-10-31') 2) Limit output to only include when there are 4+ consecutive times (each event is 15 minutes and I want it to display minimum blocks of an hour, but would also like to be able to switch this restriction to 1.5 hours or some other duration if possible). SUMMARY - Looking for a query that provides the start and end times for a set of events that have the same user_id, status_id, and are in a continuous series based on date and time. For which I can restrict results based on date range and minimum series duration. I have a table called users with the following fields: user_id, user_name, user_password, user_email, user_role, user_manager_id In my app, I pull all records from the user table using the following: function get_clients() { $this->db->select('*'); $this->db->where('user_role', 'client'); $this->db->order_by("user_name", "Asc"); $query = $this->db->get("users"); return $query->result_array(); } This works as expected, however when I display the results in the view, I also want to display a new column called Manager which will display the managers user_name field. The user_manager_id is the id of the user from the same table. Im guessing you can create an outer join on the same table but not sure. Why? How can I fix this? page2.php is creating some more sessions after some processing is done and a response is sent back to page1.php. The submit button of the form on page1.php is hit and the page gets POST'ed to page3.php. But when the SESSION info that gets created in page2.php is echoed, it's blank signifying that SESSIONS from page2.php are not used. How can I fix this? I looked over a lot of information and have spent about 50 hours trying to do different things with my scripts before arriving at the above conclusions. My app. is custom made using function (not OOPS) and does not use any PHP frameworks & I am not even about to use any as my knowledge of OOP concepts is limited any many frameworks are object oriented. I came across race conditions, but the solutions provided don't help too much. One more solution of using DB to hold sessions and seek and retrieve from DB is the last thing on my mind and I really want to avoid creating table, coding and maintaining code for a task as simple as just keeping sessions across pages in the same domain. So my request is: Is there a way that I can solve the above problem(s) via simple coding in present conditions? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

    my program is generating buttons from a mysql database.When one of the button is pressed, it would uplod the current time and the gps coordinate. Sadly, it only works if the same button is pressed twice, but its not an option, because the button has to dissappear.   • Why can i read dirty rows in MySql

    I cant believe this, i always throught the below would be concurrency safe. I write to a row in one transaction and i am able to read the dirty value from another transaction/command/connection! Why is this possible (not my main question) isnt this not desired and cause more troubles!?! Anyways, i expected that once i write to a row nothing else will be able to read to the row until the transaction is finished. And at least if the row can be still read that the clean (original) value will be read. (but maybe that would cause problems as well if the transaction doesnt use the newly commited data from the other transaction when it is ran) I would like count to == 11. I thought this would be safe in all variants of sql.     Hi All, We're evaluating MySQL and PostgreSQL for building our indic language web application which will use MySQL or PostgreSQL. One of my colleagues mentioned that MySQL had issues with i18n. I mostly come from the Oracle world and although I've played a lil with MySQL, I don't know enough to know that there are issues with its i18n support. Does anyone know issues with MySQL's i18n support and if PostgreSQL would be better placed for building an application with indic language support(kannada, telugu, tamil, etc) ? Just so you know, we're going to be using J2EE to build this application and we will be using JDBC drivers to access the DB.     I am storing activity entries in a MySQL table. The table has a date_created field of type timestamp and through PHP I insert the activity entries based on GMT: $timestamp = gmdate("Y-m-d H:i:s", time()); This works fine. On my client I am on GMT+2. If it is 16:00 here and I insert an entry, it is stored in MySQL as 14:00. This is as expected I guess. My Now I would like to get the number of activity entries from MySQL within the last hour. I'm using the following query: SELECT COUNT(id) as cnt FROM karmalog WHERE user_id = ' 89' AND event='IMG_UPD' AND date_created > DATE_SUB(CURRENT_TIMESTAMP, INTERVAL 1 HOUR) This returns nothing, because CURRENT_TIMESTAMP uses the MySQL timezone settings, which is set to SYSTEM, which is set to GMT+2. I guess what I am looking for is a GMT_CURRENTTIMESTAMP in MySQL, is there such a thing?

    I am using MySQL with the .Net connector on 64 bit Windows. For some reason Mysql is throwing a NullReferenceException in Finalize. This is the problem here and it seems that its due to a bug described here. This bug was reported in 6.22, but I am getting the issue with 6.23 too so apparently it is not fixed. I am using MySQL both with the helper classes, and by instantiating the connection and the Mysqlcommand object. Does anybody have any idea what part of my code do I need to change to fix this issue? Cause even though this is a bug in Mysql this is not universal because I am not getting the problem in my other projects. MySQL bug report has no details on how to reproduce it either. Any suggestions?

    From terminal and trying to uninstall macports, I ran a command, rm -rf / macports...., that erased bunch of stuff. I feel ashamed about this, not realizing the space after /. Since then, mysql is running but I cannot execute any of the mysql commands because it is not under /usr/local/bin/ I went ahead an reinstall mysql but without luck. What steps do you recommend on doing in order to be able to run mysql, mysqlduml, mysqladmin, from terminal? I can access databases from phpmyadmin, so mysql is running, don't ask me how.

    In this simple Article trying to show how SharePoint Designer 2010 more the External Content Type to External Database are very easy to create and can be integrated with our SharePoint Portals. The first thing we need to do, is connect to SQL Server and create our Database call “Contacts” and add the Table “Contact” with the following fields.  When we create the External Content Type. We  will need to associate the Content Type, in this case i am using the Generic List, then we can create the Connection to the external Data Source. After create the Connection to the Database we can define what Columns we will use and what operations we will add our custom List. For this example i select all Operation they came default. This operation are very important because the Business rules are defined in each operation. After we create the diferent operations we can create the Custom List and define the how will be the Operation and add the Name for our custom List.  If you try to access the New Custom List Call “Custom Contact” you will see we will not have access to the Business Data Connectivity. To Resolve this issue we will need to give Access and permissions to users to the Custom External Content Type BDC connection in the Central administration.  Access to Central Administration Page and select the option “Service Application Tab> Manage Service Application”. There you select the Service “Business Data Connectivity Service” then select “Manage”.  This Option will list all External Content Type, choose the External Content Type we create and select the option “Set Object Permission”, this option will allow to add users to the BDC and manage the permissions to the Custom List.  After the correct permissions are given we can Access to Data on our custom Contact List and start creating new Item and all the other options and operation we define to the same List.  Hope you like this litle Article about connect Database Content to SharePoint Portal using the Externa Content Types and BCS.Thank you.
