• Error when trying to deploy Windows XP SP3 with WDS

  I have created a WDS server running Windows Server 2008 R2. I have built my custom images of Windows 7 using WAIK and MDT 2010 that are installed on the server. I used this guide to help me through the process. The Windows 7 images that I have created capture and deploy properly. I am attempting to follow the same steps from the guide I linked to capture and deploy a Windows XP SP3 image. I am able to sysprep and capture the reference machine with no errors. I am then able to import the custom .wim that I just captured in to MDT 2010 with no issues either. However when I try to deploy this image to a test virtual machine I get the following error: Deployment Error: I have made sure that the .iso that I am importing the source files from originally to create the sysprep and capture sequence is indeed a Windows XP SP3 iso. When I first select a PE boot environment before I deploy I select the x86 PE boot image that I created originally when making this for my Windows 7 deployments. Could this be the issue? If so how do I make a boot image specific for Windows XP SP3 deployments? I have Googled around for this error and some places point to the deployment image not being able to find setup.exe and other important system files for installing the operating system. If so, how do I add these to the image? Any ideas?

  I'm seeing an account become locked out pretty frequently and I wanted to pull an aggregated log together of all of the lockout events so I could get a better idea of what times it's occurring. Normally I'd do this with EventCombMT.exe, but I'm in a Novell environment at the moment. Is there a Novell equivalent to Microsoft's ALTools or another diagnostic utility I could use to help aggregate lockout events into an easy to read log file?

• Debugging UI Problems in IE8 (Was IE8 on Windows 7 Authentication Mess)

  UPDATE: I think the real question I need to ask here is: how does a technician debug UI problems with Internet Explorer, and not HTML rendering issues that have pretty good tools? I am aware of the SysInternals tools and others mentioned below, but maybe I am not harnessing their power properly. Someone else in the TechNet forum I mentioned had a similar issue. Again, I have lots of data, I am not sure how to properly interpret it. ORIGINAL POST: So I tried the venerable Technet Forums to solve this isse. In short, the Windows Security dialog has no place to put credentials, rendering pretty much useless. This happens to apply for a whole bunch of our intranet websites, and only a select number of users with a few laptops have this problem. It ends up looking like this. Things I have tried so far: Disabling local Group Policy (not domain connected) Disabling local Security Policy Resetting IE settings A few system restores Re-registering a bunch of IE DLL's and all other steps here Reinstalling IE8 (dism /online /disable-feature /featurename:"internet-explorer-optional-x86, reboot, dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:"internet-explorer-optional-x86, and reboot) And SFC scan, which found nothing Still, nothing. Not only am I fed up, but I have begun to really work with APIExplorer and Procmon as mentioned in the Technet original because I want to know WHAT is happening, not just fix it. Any thoughts?

(Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 5120) Background to this error I've been trying to move my destination logshipping database to another physical server for analysis purposes. Because I do not have active directory set up, I had to hack my process by using the same username/password for both the source and destination servers to get the process to work. Following that, I used this guy's solution to move the destination database to another server. However, this error occurs when I try to bring the database back online. I don't have an E drive on my server and I have no idea why it's trying to open a file from E drive. I have over a 100gb left on my hard disk so it's definitely not a space issue. This sounds like a bug... Any ideas? I'm running SQL Server 2008 Enterprise edition on Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit

This package is aimed to send automatic messages from websites, like email confirmation and stuff. Configuration after package install: dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config You'll be presented with a welcome screen, followed by a screen asking what type mail delivery you'd like to support. Choose the option for "internet site" and select "Ok" to continue. • IPv6: Can't ping anything - "Operation not permitted"

  I've been working on getting IPv6 support into my network, and had everything working properly for a short while. The server is running Ubuntu Server 8.10. Now however whenever I attempt to do anything related to IPv6 on the server, I get "Operation not permitted". This is coming from things like wide-dhcpv6-client (when trying to get an IPv6 address from the ISP) and radvd - both log errors of this type into syslog. • Can you use a USB hard drive in ESXI?

  I know that you can install ESXi 4.0 on a thumbdrive, but I was wondering if you could plug in an external harddrive to give extra storage to one of your VMs? We run a fileserver inside of ESXi that needs a space upgrade, but we're thinking of migrating to a different fileserver solution and would rather stick to external media to ease the later transition. edit: Ideally I'd like the drive to show up to the VM directly and not have ESXi control it, so that I could move it to a different machine and still have all of the data appear the same.

• SCCM 2012 - some remote clients unable to download some applications, 401.2 error

  I've got a small SCCM 2012 deployment with about 35 clients attached. Most of these clients are in the same network as the single SCCM host, but three are about 1000 miles away. Oddly, these three clients have stopped being able to download some application packages over BITS. Publishing a new package works for all the other clients, but for these three it never seems to download. If I go to the software centre, it just hangs at "0% downloaded". Some other packages seem to work fine, the daily anti-malware delta gets downloaded and patched without issue. Why are these packages failing?

  I am copying the files from machineB and machineC into machineA as I am running my below shell script on machineA. If the files is not there in machineB then it should be there in machineC for sure so I will try copying the files from machineB first, if it is not there in machineB then I will try copying the same files from machineC. I am copying the files in parallel using GNU Parallel library and it is working fine. Currently I am copying 10 files in parallel. Seems the hyper-V system disk has got a time based program (virus) causing the reset. I thought the hypervisor had a small attack surface and should be OK. All virtual machines (SBS2008, Win7 and Win XP) and network computers are protected with TrendMicro WFBS. I am about to rebuild the disk (I have backups) but wondered if there were any suggestions to try first???

• Immutable hard links on ext3/4?

  In my research on file versioning at the fs level, snapshotting, and related ideas, I took a look at hard-links and exactly what they are and how they behave. Using rsync you can get a pretty slick poor man's snapshotting system up and running on file systems that don't natively support it. But, can you get immutable hard links on ext3/4 or any other file systems for that matter? My definition for immutable hard link is: A hard link which, when changed on one location, becomes a regular copy and no longer a hard link. I would like this because it would enable snapshotting use of the source data to link against instead of a copy of the data (in the case of the rsync snapshotting technique). I have gigabytes of data that can't be duplicated due to space restrictions but I have enough room if I can intelligently snapshot individual changed files with the rest linked to the source not a copy. Given all that, is there some other technique, feature or technology I'm really looking for?

• Using Ubuntu Karmic as an L2TP Client for VPN

  I'm trying to connect to a VPN service over L2TP using Karmic as a client and it's not working. The only details I have are the remote IP address, username & password, and a shared secret string; this is enough for Windows but doesn't appear to be enough for Ubuntu. I've tried using network-manager-vpnc and vpnc from the terminal to connect and I get "no supported authentication", and trying with OpenSwan it says "unable to identify either side of the connection". I'd really appreciate some help here if anyone else has implemented this successfully.

  Hi there, I'm trying to configure SVN server on OS X 10.6.2 via Apache2. Whenever I enable the module in Wev - Settings - Services then try accessing the site, it fails. So I attempted an apachectl configtest and I'm getting a crazy amount of errors: httpd: Syntax error on line 132 of /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf: Cannot load /usr/libexec/apache2/mod_dav_fs.so into server: dlopen(/usr/libexec/apache2/mod_dav_fs.so, 10): Symbol not found: _dav_add_response\n Referenced from: /usr/libexec/apache2/mode_dev_fs.so\n Expected in: flat namespace\n in /usr/livexec/apache2/mod_dav_fs.so When I attempt disabling the related services and enabling then one by one (dav_fs_module, dav_module, dav_svn_module and authz_svn_mod each seems to fail.   I have a domain on my server (on its own virtualhost), e.g. domain.com, which has a lot of subdomains with content on it. sub1.domain.com sub2.domain.com This virtualhost looks like this: ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName domain.com ServerAlias *.domain.com DocumentRoot /var/www/domain.com/public_html/ I want to put other domains on the server and have each of them link to a specific subdomain on domain.com. I don't want it to redirect. I want a similar behavior as the [L,PT] flags on mod rewrite. I've tried this: ServerName otherdomain.com ReWriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^otherdomain.com$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://sub1.domain.com/$1 [PT,L] But it is giving me a 400 Bad request error. How would I configure such a virtualhost?

  I'm trying to use PHP 5.3.2 + Fcgid 2.3.5 + Apache 2.2.14 but I always have the error : "Connection reset by peer: mod_fcgid: error reading data from FastCGI server".
