  • Can my PowerMac G3 B&W really take a harddrive larger than 128GB?

    So it's a well known fact that the PowerMacs manufactured before 2002 cannot take a harddrive larger than 128GB. I have an old B&W that was running 10.4, and upon putting a 250GB drive inside, it told me that I had inserted a 128GB. That was expected. However, I recently decided to turn that machine into a Debian home file server. I shoved the 250GB drive inside, did some formatting, and now it tells me that it is a 250GB drive. Is this safe to use? Will all my data go corrupt after I've added more than 128GB of stuff? In case the specs are helpful to have, it's a 400MHz B&W, 1GB RAM, Rev. B.

  • How many disks to use for eight channel RAID controller

    I have a 3ware 8 channel SAS controller and a back plane extender (also 8 channel) which can take 16 drives. I will be creating a single RAID 10 volume. I know that adding more drives has positive effect on performance, but I'm not sure if adding more than 8 drives on an 8 channel controller will have any positive impact at all. Am I wrong? Should I put 16 drives for best performance? Would 8 drives give me the same performance?

I've googled around and noone seems to have asked it on here so I thought I should.   • What tools can be used to download all images in a webpage?

    I would like to download all images in a web page. The tool should be smart enough to examine the css and javascript files in the page source to look for the images. Ideally, it should also replicate the folder hierarchy, saving the images in the correct folder. For example, the web page may have some images for menu items stored in images/menu/ and for background images it may be stored in images/bg/. Is there such a tool that you know of? (preferably in Windows but Linux is still ok) Many thanks to you all.

  • Can Windows 7 restore itself from image to a smaller HDD than original?

    I've created a full system image using the built-in Win7 utility, it was from a 300GB drive but there is only about 50GB of data. I then swapped disks in my notebook, the new one being 80GB SSD and now when I boot to the system restore applet, go through all of the settings (finding the backed up image on a network share, confirming that I'm willing to repartition my disk etc.), I get this: The system image restore failed. No disk that can be used for recovering the system disk can be found. [Details] Is this because I'm trying to restore to a smaller disk? (Even though the data should fit without any problems, there being only 50GB of it.)

  • Enlarging everything on 16" 1920x1080 notebook display in Windows 7

    Does Windows 7 have an option to enlarge everything on the screen, e.g. via a spi setting? How well does this work? i.e. do the objects look clear when enlarged? I ask this because sometimes software that enlarges non-photographic bitmap images e.g. icons and symbols can leave them artifacted with harsh jaggier slopes and blurred lines. I've tried the dpi setting in Windows XP but it doesn't enlarge everything, and some things are not so clear as described above. I'm looking at a notebook/laptop with this spec.   • How can I change a specific website's style?

    I have a specific website I often use (specifically, http://www.pygame.org/), which has an awful color scheme. I would like to change the color scheme of the site, but I haven't been able to find a good tool for the job. Some basic requirements: It should not be universal to all websites, or affect other websites. I want this to be semi-automatic. I don't want to have to re-define the theme for each page of the site. I want to continue to access the site online (I don't want a local copy of the entire site) Not OS-specific (browser-specific is okay) I am currently using Firefox, but I am also happy with Chrome. There may be some limitations on what is able to be done automatically, as the CSS seems to be embedded in the HTML (and some also in the HTML tags). I would like to remove as much of the green as possible. Is there an existing extension/add-on that does this?

  • Any method to resize my app's window on Mac (macbook) to 1600 x 1200 or 1920 x 1200?

    I would like to make a screen capture for an app (Firefox), but I am using a macbook, so the display is at 1280 x 800. I think if I can somehow resize the window to 1920 x 1200, then I can use Command + Shift + 4 and then space bar, and then mouse click on that app to capture the whole app's window (which will be bigger than the screen) So I can resize the window horizontally to 1920 by dragging the window to the left, and then make it wider by going to the bottom-right corner of the window. But there seems to be no way to make it taller... even javascript: self.resizeTo(screen.availWidth+300,screen.availHeight+300); on the Firefox address bar (URL bar) won't work... it can make the window wider than the screen, but not taller. Is there any method at all?

  • Pushing new mailbox limits for Exchange 2003 accounts

    There is this problem that I have every time I set up an account for a user on Exchange 2003. After I update the Mailbox limit to unlimited in the Exchange tab in the user preferences it does not seem to update right away. I remember reading somewhere that it takes several hours for the change to update in the database. I also remember typing in some terminal command that pushed the new updates immediately. What is that command, and why is it so difficult to find the answer to this problem on Google?

    I setup a Trusty VM with Django + Nginx (other stuffs too). The server is working, I get the "Welcome to Django" page. But when I enter to servername/admin it loads the HTML page but fails to load the static content. I just want to apply background-position coordinates to the body element and call the script conditionally for iPhone, iPod, & iPad. Everyone has told me (and ALL of the tutorials and Google search results as well) that it's impossible to set scroll position dynamically for iPhone because of the viewport issue. HOWEVER, they are wrong because if you scroll to the bottom of the page and view this javascript demo on iPhone, you can scroll and the <div style="background-position: fixed; top: x (variable)"></div> div DOES stay centered on iPhone. I really hope this question helps alot of people, I thought it was impossible, but it's NOT... I just need help stitching it together!   • Possible to make jqGrid stretch to 100%?

    Is it possible to make it so that a jqGrid will have a width set to 100%? I understand that column widths must be an absolute pixel size, but I've yet to find anything for setting the width of the actual grid to a relative size. For instance, I want to set the width to 100%. Instead of 100% it seems to use an odd size of 450px. There is more horizontal room on the page, but with the columns width and such, it will make the container(of only the grid) horizontally scroll. Is there some way around this?

    Anyone know why doesn't the Windows command prompt window maximize to the full screen size? To the best of my knowledge, even in the new Windows 7 the command prompt window(cmd.exe) doesn't maximize to the full screen size like all other windows. This behavior is quite annoying for me, and I'm sure to many others as well. Note: The size of the command prompt window can be changed, but the size remains fixed regardless of the screen size.

  • Drivers for NVIDIA 520M not working in Ubuntu 12.04

    I am aware that this is nominally a duplicate question, however I've read the other questions and haven't been able to resolve my problem after many hours and attempts, so please don't delete it. Additionally, it seems like many answers to the other questions are specifically dependent on certain situations. My situation being different from the others I found represented, here's my question. Until last night, I had Ubuntu 12.04 installed with Wubi, and it ran ok, though slowly and with occasional hangs. So I partitioned the drive and installed 12.04 in its own partition. Now when I start it, I am stuck using 2D. I believe this is an NVIDIA bug. My NVIDIA card is a GT 520M and my machine has Optimus. Additional Drivers only displays my wireless driver. Going to System Settings Details Graphics shows Driver:Unknown, Experience:Standard. I downloaded the driver from the NVIDIA website, and ran the installer with no errors, except that the "distribution-provided pre-install script failed". After rebooting, my screen was stuck at 640X480, which was fixed by editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf However, I still was stuck in 2D, and nothing else had changed either. A thread suggested something called Bumblebee. I tried that, and when I ran optirun firefoxI got a frozen blank screen. Following another suggestion, I checked the BIOS to try and disable Optimus. I found and ran myriad other commands to try and fix the problem and nothing changed. Now I have just done a clean re-install of Ubuntu. From there, I: Installed all the updates Downloaded the NVIDIA driver Installed it Got screen stuck at 640X480, fixed in xorg.conf. To recap the problem: I can't get the NVIDIA drivers working I am stuck using 2D I'm an idiot I think if the first one is solved, the solution to the second will naturally follow. If you need me to provide any other information, I'd be happy to.     When I open a letter size PDF and then zoom to 100%, the page physically displayed on my monitor is smaller than a real letter size sheet of paper. How can I make "100%" on the computer screen correspond with "100%" in real life? Details This message suggests that I should be investigating the system-wide DPI settings for my monitor. xdpyinfo reports: dimensions: 1024x768 pixels (271x203 millimeters) resolution: 96x96 dots per inch My monitor has a native display resolution of 1024x768 pixels and a diagonal display size of 12.07 inches. PX CALC returns the following information: DPI: 106.05 Dot Pitch: 0.2395mm Size: 9.66" × 7.24" (24.53cm × 18.39cm) What I've tried so far Running xrandr --dpi 106.05 successfully caused my PDF to appear actual size at 100%, but this effect was lost after rebooting. To make the setting persistent I tried creating the following /etc/X11/xorg.conf: Section "Monitor" Identifier "ThinkPad X60 LCD" DisplaySize 245 183 EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Monitor "ThinkPad X60 LCD" EndSection After re-logging in, /var/log/Xorg.0.log contained [ 1167.824] (**) intel(0): Display dimensions: (245, 183) mm [ 1167.824] (**) intel(0): DPI set to (106, 106) but xdpyinfo still reported dimensions: 1024x768 pixels (271x203 millimeters) resolution: 96x96 dots per inch and "100%" still appeared too small.   • Should CSS be listed on your resume under Languages?

    I have some doubts like Whether CSS should be put under Languages or not? Although Wikipedia says Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a style sheet language ... But do they write CSS under the languages section of the resume, along with PHP, etc? Similarly what about HTML? I have some doubt and I don't want to sound like someone who is not aware of the trends. Just to give an example, currently I have the following languages,frameworks, technologies, etc. listed under the "Technical Expertise" section of my resume - Technical Expertise * Languages - Proficient - PHP 5, Javascript, HTML ?*,CSS ?*,Sass ?*. Beginner - Linux Bash. * Databases - MySQL 5. * Technologies - AJAX. * Frameworks/Libraries - Symfony, jQuery. * CMSes - Wordpress. Although my domain is Web-development/design, I welcome domain-agnostic answers which can provide some generic ideas/reasoning. I have seen, a lot of people messing up these sections (even more serious than my doubts :) ), putting things under wrong sub-headings and thus putting a big question mark on their understanding of those things. I don't know much about XML, Comet Technology etc. Considering those are included too, What things should be put under Languages? E.g. Should CSS be put under Languages? Please give some reasoning to support your views. Where should the others (XML, Comet, cURL etc. ) be put? I welcome some examples of how you put it. Or do you have an additional Keywords section where you write all the unsortables ? Considering a set of standards like W3C standards, etc. do you have a standards sub-heading? I guess I have put the contents of other sections Okay. But do let me know about your ideas and reasoning.
