  • Tomboy won't start

    I've just discovered Tomboy and like it. I added it to the startup applications, and on next boot Tomboy won't start. It then also won't start when I select it manually from the menu. I unchecked its entry in the startup applications and rebooted, but it still won't start. I uninstalled it and installed it again in order to perhaps fix some broken file or setting, but it didn't help. I saw this question and added the Applet. But the applet says "Tomboy Notes" has quit unexpectedly and a reload doesn't work; the message appears again. How can I determine (and fix!) what's wrong?

  • Tip #15: How To Debug Unit Tests During Maven Builds

    It must be really really hard to step through unit tests in a debugger during a maven build.  Right? Wrong! Here is how i do it: 1) Set up these environmental variables: MAVEN_OPTS=-Xmx1024m -Xms256m -XX:MaxPermSize=512mMAVEN_OPTS_DEBUG=-Xmx1024m -Xms256m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m  -Xdebug (no line break here!!)  -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=y,address=9999MAVEN_OPTS_REG=-Xmx1024m -Xms256m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m 2) create 2 scripts or aliases like so:  maveny.bat: set MAVEN_OPTS=%MAVEN_OPTS_DEBUG% mavenn.bat: set MAVEN_OPTS=%MAVEN_OPTS_REG%    To debug do this: run maveny.bat run mvn install attach your debugger to port 9999 (set breakpoints of course) When maven gets to the unit test phase it will hit your breakpoint and wait for you. When done debugging simply run mavenn.bat Notes If it takes a while to do the build then you don't really need to set the suspend=y flag. If you set the suspend=n flag then you can just leave it -- but only one maven build can run at a time because of the debug port conflict.

    I installed the SP1 for Windows 7 yesterday on two machines.  Short story: nothing to report, everything went fine.   • Ghost in the machine

    Well it does relate to ghosts, in this case dbGhost, http://dbghost.com/    which is what this post is about. Ghost creates databases on the fly, something I personally don’t like too much, which it then compares to a “base” database to produce release scripts. ( The brief description ). As with all things sometimes all is not well and the server is left with a number of ghost created databases so I have to have a job to delete these every night before backups, it’s not difficult to code...(read more)

    jamendo is open music platform for artists and listers, i know that debian was on jamendo on the stores on rhythmbox by default, and also ubuntu use to have so why is not been there anymore on ubuntu ? is it because of ubuntu one ? and how can i add jamendo to the music players like rhythmbox and banshee ? magnatune store is on rhytmbox plugins bu t not on banshee ? can we expect jamendo to be include on next release , that i am using beta version, of ubuntu 12.04?

  • Google Desktop shortcut Ctrl + Ctrl weird behavior

    Just noticed a weird behavior of Google Desktop shortcut Ctrl + Ctrl. This shortcut is supposed to bring Google Desktop search bar to the front. If Ctrl + Ctrl is pressed the search bar appears, but once you release one of the Ctrl keys it will disappear. If you hold one Ctrl key, and press the other twice the search bar will toggle it's state. Do you have any idea how this can be fixed and what can be causing this behaviour?

    Getting a new Toshiba C55D Touchscreen Laptop next week and want to run strictly Ubuntu and Firefox. Want to rip every scrap of Microsoft off of it (it comes pre-loaded). I'm a neophyte to Ubuntu and the finer points of setting up a laptop. Do I first install the latest Ubuntu release, plus Adobe, gmail, etc., then go about tearing the MS junk out?If anyone knows the ansswer, I certainly would appreciate some info on this. Toivo42.

  • trying live-usb 12.04.1 image on an old desktop

    I am trying to load Ubuntu 12.04.1 32-bit desktop image on an old desktop computer. The system shows the initial menu, but after a while, I get an error like the one in the following two screenshots (it takes a few seconds to go from one to the other in the screen): I tried to load it using the different USB ports at the back of the computer, just in case, and I get basically the same error. Find another screenshot from another try: Any ideas what might be happening? NOTES: I checked the md5sum of the iso file to be e235b63c02644e219b7bf3668f479c9e *ubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-i386.iso. I did the 'Test' on the laptop where I created the USB drive, and it loads up correctly. The desktop computer in question is an old AMD Duron 1800MHz with 512MB RAM. I ran a memtest on the computer, and all went fine.

  • Survey: Your Plans for Adopting New Firefox Releases?

    Mozilla is committing to releasing new Firefox versions every six weeks.  Mozilla released Firefox 5 this week.  With this release, Mozilla states that Firefox 4 is End-of-Life and will not receive any additional security updates.  In a comment thread posted on to a Mike Kaply's blog article discussing these new Firefox policies, Asa Dotzler from Mozilla stated: ... Enterprise has never been (and I’ll argue, shouldn’t be) a focus of ours. Until we run out of people who don’t have sysadmins and enterprise deployment teams looking out for them, I can’t imagine why we’d focus at all on the kinds of environments you care so much about.  In a later comment, he added: ... A minute spent making a corporate user happy can better be spent making many regular users happy. I’d much rather Mozilla spending its limited resources looking out for the billions of users that don’t have enterprise support systems already taking care of them. Asa then confirmed that every new Firefox release will put the previous one into End-of-Life: As for John’s concern, “By the time I validate Firefox 5, what guarantee would I have that Firefox 5 won’t go EOL when Firefox 6 is released?” He has the opposite of guarantees that won’t happen. He has my promise that it will happen. Firefox 6 will be the EOL of Firefox 5. And Firefox 7 will be the EOL for Firefox 6.  He added: “You’re basically saying you don’t care about corporations.” Yes, I’m basically saying that I don’t care about making Firefox enterprise friendly. Kev Needham, Channel Manager at Mozilla later stated to PC Mag: The Web and Web browsers continue to evolve rapidly. Mozilla's focus is on providing users with the best Web experience possible, and Firefox needs to evolve at the pace the Web's users and developers expect. By releasing small, focused updates more often, we are able to deliver improved security and stability even as we introduce new features, which is better for our users, and for the Web.We recognize that this shift may not be compatible with a large organization's IT Policy and understand that it is challenging to organizations that have effort-intensive certification polices. However, our development process is geared toward delivering products that support the Web as it is today, while innovating and building future Web capabilities.
