  • New Cumulative Updates for SQL Server 2008 SP1 & R2!

    Well, this is the first time in a long time that I've blogged about cumulative updates for two different versions of SQL Server on the same day. Yesterday Microsoft released a cumulative update for SQL Server 2008 SP1 (bringing you to 2775), and a corresponding cumulative update for SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM (bringing you from 1600 to 1702).     In April and May, Microsoft released cumulative updates for SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2 (I blogged about them here and here ).   • Slides and code for MPI Cluster Debugger

    Almost two years ago, I blogged that Lock Pages in Memory was finally available to Standard Edition customers (Enterprise Edition customers had long been deemed smart enough to not abuse this feature). In addition to applying a cumulative update (2005 SP3 CU4 or 2008 SP1 CU2), in order to take advantage of LPIM, you also had to enable trace flag 845.   • More info: a "stand-alone" installer for Management Studio Express 2008

    Last February, I blogged about something I was initially very happy about: a stand-alone installer for Management Studio Express (SSMSE) 2008 . Now users could allegedly download a much smaller installer, and only install the client tools without having to install an instance of SQL Server Express. While the latter is true, the former remains a pipe dream. Bill Ramos stated in his 2009-02-20 announcement : "We teased out the Tools portion of SQL Server 2008 Express with Tools into it’s own download."...(read more)

Greg Low described the MCM program when he decided to pursue the MCM at the end of 2008, but two years later, at the end of 2010, Microsoft completely changed the requirements.   • Configuring UCM content cache invalidation for a custom portal application

    Recently, I had blogged about enabling the UCM content cache invalidator for Spaces (found here).  This can also be enabled for a WebCenter Custom Portal application as well.  The much overlooked setting is done through the Content Repository connection definition in the JDeveloper Application Resources section.   Enabling the cache invalidator "sweeper" can be invaluable, where UCM content is being updated from within UCM (console) and not within the portal.
