Sorry to ask something so basic, but I just can't find it.
I found some example code which seems to do exactly what I want, but it doesn't include a uses clause.
I am using PHP open source and I need the map of a country highlighting all the states in different colors. Once a particular state is hovered over, some info about the state needs to appear. Please suggest me how to do this. Is it possible to do this using some basic stuff ... I mean nothing like what goes beyond my knowledge... Not sure if the tags that i have posted this query in is right...
Does anyone have any good pointers on designing the UI for an android application and some good practises?
Obviously I'm aware of the basic principles involved with designing the layout in XML. Also, that you have a stack of activities. But I'm interested in some approaches to creating the interfaces and also how to design an application around those intentions.
I"d like to find some good, basic mouse cursor graphics (like the pointing finger used when mousing over a hyperlink).
Any suggestions of some good sources for that?
i have a really basic java program just one .java/.class file (.java uncompiled .class compiled i guess) how do i make something that i can have run on someone elses computer?
I'm interested in learning about what additional features and APIs an app has access to when an iPhone is jailbroken. Can someone provide me with some basic resources to learn about this? I would be most interested in:
documentation on the private APIs
filesystem layout
app configuration, e.g. how did WinterBoard replace SpringBoard? Apps that replace the lockscreen?
tools needed
Suggestions appreciated.
While configuring my just installed Visual Studio 2010 Professional, I mistakenly opted for Visual Basic mode. I want to correct my selection and change it to C#. How can I do that?
I have gone through with some of the sample examples of blackberry.
And in some classes I have found some variables are starting from _ like _address and some of them are ALLCAPS.
So, i guess it's bit different then the basic Java naming conventions.
So, can anybody let me know that is there any difference between Java and blackberry naming convention ?
Thanks in advance.
I've always been fascinated by microcontrollers and I'm planning to do a few hobby projects just to satisfy my inner geek :)
I'm looking for ideas and motivation, so what did you develop using a microcontroller?
If possible please state the microcontroller and/or development environment and an estimate on hardware costs beyond the basic equipment (if applicable).
I'm interested in both successful and failed projects and any problems you encountered.
I recently created a Sinatra app with a login form (no basic auth). To prevent access to the app unless the user logged in I put a before block in place
before do
unless request.path_info == '/login'
authenticated?
end
end
I quickly realized that this prevented me from accessing resources in the public directory like my style sheet and logo unless authenticated first as well. To get around that I changed my filter to the following:
before do
unless request.path_info == '/login' || request.path_info == "/stylesheets/master.css" || request.path_info == "/images/logo.png"
authenticated?
end
end
If there were lots of resources I needed to provide exceptions to this way of making them would quickly become overwhelming. What is a better way to code this so I can make exceptions for the public directory or even its specific sub-directories and files like /stylesheets, /images, /images/bg.png but not /secret or /secret/eyes-only.pdf?
Or ... Is there a completely different best-practice to handle this situation of locking down everything except the stuff related to logging in (handlers, views, resources)?
Hi, i have a php web application. This application works on windows server but doesn't work on linux server.I think this is about php.ini or file permissions.Whta can be other reasons for this situaion? What must be the basic php.ini configurations for this situation? Thanks for advance...
When using reflection we typically just was the basic System.Reflection API but I am wondering if anyone know of a nice "wrapper" layer or API that has a more "schema style" approach? (e.g. kind of like a code generators DB schema view)
Currently a user makes a purchase and then a license is generated and sent to that user, but the license isn't tied to a physical computer so there is nothing to prevent the user sharing the license with someone.
I heard people talk about creating a license tied to the mac address of the computer, so the license only works on that computer. Now I know how to get the mac address in code but I dont understand how I can do this step when they first make the purchase on the web, so please what is the basic algorithm for node locked licenses ?
When a user moves the Google map, I would like to display items in the viewing range of the user automatically. How can I efficiently and quickly display the items?
I have basic understanding of calling getBounds() method every time the user moves the map, but I am not sure how I can efficiently search and get from my database the items within the lat/lng of the bounds of the current viewport. Is there easier and faster way of doing this?

Just finished reading ch23 in the excellent 'Beautiful Code' http://oreilly.com/catalog/9780596510046
on Distributed Programming with MapReduce. I understand that MapReduce is a programming system designed for large-scale data processing problems, but I have a hard time getting my head around the basic examples given and how I might apply them in real world situations.
Can someone give a simple example of MapReduce implemented using either java, javascript or actionscript?

Hi I have a site that uses flex and calls controller actions which returns json to the flex. This works fine in a dev server , the folder that has the flex app lives inside the web project and in the dev ennvironment, makes calls hostname, ie www.someurl.com
in the actual live scenario, this will be an intranet so not hostname to call, the flex app seems to have trouble calling http://localhost/Virtual directory name
it seems to totally miss the virtual directory name. I am obviously missing something basic, any help?

Hi
Im trying to set up TFS 2010 on a machine that is connected to a network, but not on the domain.
I am trying to connect this to a SQL Server that is also connected to the network and also not on the domain. When I run through the TFS configuration Wizard and try to connect to the SQL Server, it fails with a message "A connection can not be made...." which looks like it cant see the Server. However when i connect through SQL Management Studio it works when i use SQL Authentication (not Windows Auth). I beleive its failing because TFS needs to connect using Windows Authetication (please correct me if im wrong). I can not add the Windows Authentication for my TFS machine onto the SQL machine becuase they are on different domains (again, pleas correct me if I'm wrong).
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks.
Back when I was at school, I remember tinkering with a Mac game where you programmed little robots in a sort of pseudo-assembler language which could then battle each other. They could move themselves around the arena, look for opponents in different directions, and fire some sort of weapon. Pretty basic stuff, but I remember it quite fondly, even if I can't remember the name.
Are there any good modern day equivalents?
Hi All,
I have a JAR on the build path of a medium sized Java application and I would like to know where it's used. At the most basic level if someone could tell me how to 'Find References' for a Jar that would be great.
Whilst I'm looking at dependencies it would be great to find a tool that would map all of my package / external library usages and graph them. I used to have a free plug-in for eclipse that did just that but I haven't been able to rediscover it.
Thanks,
Gav
I am looking to get into web application development. I am an undergrad CS major with experience in programming desktop apps, but with only basic knowledge regarding how web apps work. Any suggestions of where to start? Javascript, php, perl, ruby, python? Should I look into frameworks like django, seaside, ruby on rails, etc at first or wait until I am more experienced to use those?
I've heard that given a programmer with enough time and skill in any particular language and enough lines of code, then any program could be created with any given language. I know its certainly not going to be cost-efficient, for instance, to rewrite Adobe Photoshop in BASIC, but could a good enough and patient enough programmer potentially create any program in any language?
