    As it is told in git-config manual, I have three files to specify git repo configuration: $GIT_DIR/config, ~/.gitconfig and $(prefix)/etc/gitconfig. Is it possible to make git read another config file (for example .gitconfig in root of the repo) after reading $GIT_DIR/config? I want it as I created git command aliases in .git/config and I would prefer to store them in repo, so I can restore them when cloning and for example.

    I administer a production server for a .com. It is live right now. Server 2008 x64 IIS 7 SQL 2008 PHP MYSQL I have another server which is a DC Server 2003 x86 and a warm standby for the website, sql, DFS, exchange queue. In order to get DFS going to transfer user photos and other content I need it in the domain. My question is, What preparations do I need to do to the production server to allow a smooth transition onto the domain? Things such as permissions for the website. I do not want to be running around resetting all the permissions. The Group Policy on the DC is completely default. Should I add the DNS manually or allow it to add itself? Anything else I left out.

  • GIT and Django Projects

    I have two servers, a Dev server and a Production server. The Production server runs a live Django site, while the Dev server has a copy of the Django project. I use the Dev server to work on the Django site, make improvements, fix bugs, etc. Once I am satisfied with how the Dev version is working, I move the whole Django directory from the Dev server and replace the same directory on the Production server. The two servers are not on the same LAN so the process is not straight forward. There are a few issues with this that I am having so far. Moving the whole directory is laborious and time consuming If I only change a few files, it is even move tedious to replace a few files than the whole directory since the project is getting fairly large and I worry that I'll miss something I often run into permission issues after I've moved things It's super inefficient, and, due to lack of time, I haven't bothered figuring out a new method. Now it's just getting out of hand and i need to address the situation. I am thinking I need to move to a GIT repository for this process. But my question is how would I set this all up? Do I host the repository on the Production server, pull from the Dev server, do work, then commit? Then I would pull from the Production server (same server the repo is hosted on) to run the current working version? Do I host the repo on the Dev Server, pulling from the same server to do work on the repo, then pull a working version onto the Production server? Should I be hosting the repo on a different server than the Production server and the Dev server (a third server)? Are there any special considerations with Django and repos that I need to worry about? Thanks for the help :)

    I have created a set of tables (around 20) in SQL Server 2008 and entered around 1000 records to appropriate tables. But the issue is that I want that same tables with all the entered data into SQL Server 2005 (SQLEXPRESS). Obviously it won't work by taking a backup and restore it into SQL Server 2005 as it won't support backward compatibility. Any suggestion would be appreciated....

    Hi, I have installed gitosis, but i have strange thing when i'm working with repos. In config i have [gitosis] [group gitosis-admin] writable = gitosis-admin members = me@server me@laptop [group prj1] writable = prj1 members = me@laptop and in /home/git/repositories i have created directory prj1.git with empty git repo. i can work with gitosis-admin from server and laptop without problems, but when i'm trying to git clone prj1 on my laptop i see $ git clone git@server:prj1.git Initialized empty Git repository in /Users/alec/temp/prj1/.git/ fatal: no matching remote head ok, lets push prj1 from laptop to server: $ git push origin master:refs/heads/master ERROR:gitosis.serve.main:Repository read access denied fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly Whats wrong?

  • Using MobileMe idisk as a git repository

    I am trying to use git and MobileMe as a version control system for a personal project I am working across several computers. So far i have done the following. Created and empty bare repository on my local computer $ mkdir myproject.git $ cd myproject.git $ git init --bare $ git update-server-info I then copied the myproject.git directory to the mobile me disk, and sync my computer with mobile me. I then switched to the directory where my project was on my local machine, set the remote origin and try to push the local repository to mobile me $ cd myproject $ git remote add origin https://<username>@idisk.me.com/<username>/myproject.git/ $ git push --all Im am then asked for my password twice. The first time is the mobile me password, any other password gets an error. After entering the second password, and believe me i've tried everything, terminal just hangs. So what am I doing wrong?     I need help getting git extensions to run with msysgit. I have had bad luck with extensions git-tfs and git-fetchall, in both cases it is the same problem. The addon will require a file to be placed where git can find it (git-tfs.exe and git-fetchall.sh). I understand this to mean the files need to be in a directory that is in the 'PATH' environment variable. In both cases I get stuck at this point: $ git-diffall bash: git-diffall: command not found When I run echo %PATH% from a regular command shell, it shows my path variable includes the directories where git-diffall and git-tfs are. How can I debug this, or am I missing something? Is there a way within msysgit to verify the command search path is what I expect?

    Ok, I have three different computers that I work from and right now their configurations are all different so I have to push/pull a certain on each and its very bothersome. What I want to do is have ONE config file that I can use for all three that will allow me to do the following: git push unfuddle git pull heroku git push unfuddle git pull heroku And I'm new to git, so I know that maybe I need heroku master or 'heroku origin` or somethign? I'm wondering if there is a method in Git to "join" all commits in a branch in only one commit (ideally with a clear commit message). Something like this: git checkout -b branch <some work> git commit -a -m "commit 1" <some work> git commit -a -m "commit 2" <some work> git commit -a -m "commit 3" git checkout master git SUPER-JOIN branch -m "super commit" After this, only "super commit" will exist in the git log.

    I have a commit in a remote+local branch and I want to throw that commit out of the history and put some of them into an own branch. Basically, right now I have: D---E---F---G master And I want: E---G topic / D master That should be both in my local and in the (there is only one, called origin) remote repository. Which is the cleanest way to get that? Also, there are also other people who have cloned that repo and who have checked out the master branch. If I would do such a change in the remote repo, would 'git pull' work for them to get also to the same state?

  • SQL Server 2008 Restore from Backup fails with error 3241 'cannot process this media family'

    I am attempting to backup a database from a SQL Server instance on one machine and restore it to another, and I am encountering the frequently discovered 'SQL Server cannot process this media family' error. Each of my instances are SQL Server 2008, but with different patch levels Restore: 10.0.2531.0 Backup: 10.0.1600.22 ((SQL_PreRelease).080709-1414 ) The restore DB is express. Not sure about the backup version. The backup version is on a virtual private server. The restore is on my development box. When I restore to a different database on the source (backup) server, it restores fine. Lots of stuff on google about this issue, some on stackoverflow about this issue, but nothing which is this exact situation. Any thoughts? It should be straightforward to do a backup and restore from one machine to another (having done this thousands of times in with SQL 6.5,7,2000,2005). Any ideas how to restore a database in this situation, which gives this error when attempting to restore? PARTIAL RESOLUTION: When I restored to a different box, running SQL 2008 Express on Windows Server 2003, all worked well. It just wouldn't work on the Windows 7 box. Not sure why. If anyone else has a similar experience, please let me know (there are many similar issues in different forums out there).

    Installed SharePoint Services v3 (SP2, october 2009 cumulative updates, Language Pack), attached to a content database I had previously (all works). Installed Search server 2008 Express (with language pack) on top of WSS and crawl does not work. However it works for newly created web application + database. Was playing around with accounts, permissions to try get it working. Currently I have WSS_Crawler account with such permissions: Office Search Server runs with WSS_Crawler account Config database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler Content database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler WSS_Crawler is owner of search database. Added WSS_Crawler to SQL server browser user group and administrator Yes, i'v given more permissions than needed, but it doesn't even work with that and i don't know if its permission problem or what.     I have been trying for the past three days to install SQL Server 2008 with SharePoint integrated mode in VMware Player, however I keep getting the following error: Reporting Services in SharePoint integrated mode is not supported for WORKGROUP edition I setup ADDS and have my computer part of that domain (therefore not a WORKGROUP). I am currently at my wits end and any help would be appreciated.   • Lync server 2010 Active Directory Preparation with a Windows Server 2003 DC

    I'm trying to install Lync server 2010 but i'm stuck for a while now with the "Active Directory Preparation" part of the Lync server 2010 installation. The "Prepare Schema" fails with the following error: "Step 1: Prepare Schema Run once per deployment. Extends the schema for Lync Server. Not Available: Failure occurred while attempting to check the schema state. Please ensure Active Directory is reachable." screenshot: https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=CB15F1A932B364BE&id=CB15F1A932B364BE%211742 The situation: 1 server with Windows Server 2003 (x86), which is the only Domain Controller (DC) 1 server with Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64) where Lync should be installed. First I have found that the DFL/FFL were not correct: On the DC (server2003) I have changed the Domain Functional Level to Windows Server 2003 and also the Forest Functional Level to Windows Server 2003. If I check these settings on the Server2008 with Active Directory Domains and Trusts, I see indeed that the DFL and FFL are being set to Windows Server 2003. (Windows Server 2003 is the minimum required for Lync server 2010) I tried the Lync AD Preparation again but still got the same message: https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=CB15F1A932B364BE&id=CB15F1A932B364BE%211742 I'm logged in on the Server2008 and Server2003 with the domain administrator account. If I check "Active Directory Users and Computers" and go to the directory Users and watch the properties from the Administrator User then it is also a Member of: Domain Admins Domain Users Enterprise Admins Schema Admins Group Policy Creator Owners The firewall on the server2008 is turned off, still nog working So now my question is: what should I do to make the Lync setup (Active Directory Preparation) work? (I would appreciate clear step-by-step suggestions to check.) Thanks in advance. Update 1: Now I've extended AD successfully on the 2003 DC, using this link: http://blogs.pointbridge.com/Blogs/sloan_jason/Pages/Post.aspx?_ID=2 but when I check the Active Directory Preparation again on the Lync install, it still gives me the same error as in the screenshot I've provided.     We have a test server running Windows Server 2008 R2 that I want to put SQL Server 2008 onto. I have an MSDN subscription and thought I could install (x64 version) SQL2008 but the installation warned me this wasn't compatible with this version of windows (reporting that I am running Windows 7). When I log onto my MSDN to download an update the only SQL Server R2 options I have are for Express edition or Enterprise evaluation (I am logged in to subscriber downloads). Is there no standard R2 edition or am I missing something?

  • TeamCity and pending Git merge branch commit keeps build with failed tests

    We use TeamCity for continuous integration and Git for source control. Generally it works pretty well - convenient, modern and good us quick feedback when tests fails. There is a strange behavior related to Git merge specifics. Here are steps of the case: First developer pulls from master repo. Second developer pulls from master repo. First developer makes commit A locally. Second developer makes commit B locally; Second developer pushes commit B. First developer want to push commit A but unable because he have to pull commit B first. First developer pull's from remote reposity. First developer pushes commit A and generated merge branch commit. The history of commits in master repo is following: B second developer A first developer merge branch first developer. Now let's assume that Second Developer fixed some failing tests in his commit B. What TeamCity will do is following: Commit B arrives - TeamCity makes build #1 with all tests passed Commit A arrives - TeamCity makes build #2 (without commit B) test bar becomes Red! TeamCity thought that Pending "Merge Branch" commit doesn't contain any changes (any new files) - but it actually does contain the merge of commit B, so the TeamCity don't want to make new build here and make tests green. Here are two problems: 1. In our case we have failed tests returning back in second commit (commit A) 2. TeamCity don't want to make a new build and make tests back green. Does anybody know how to fix both of this problems. I consider some reasonable general approach.

  • git rebase without changing commit timestamps

    Would it make sense to perform git rebase while preserving the commit timestamps? I believe a consequence would be that the new branch will not necessarily have commit dates chronologically. Is that theoretically possible at all? (e.g. using plumbing commands; just curious here) If it is theoretically possible, then is it possible in practice with rebase, not to change the timestamps? For example, assume I have the following tree: master <jun 2010> | : : : oldbranch <feb 1984> : / oldcommit <jan 1984> Now, if I rebase oldbranch on master, the date of the commit changes from feb 1984 to jun 2010. Is it possible to change that behaviour so that the commit timestamp is not changed? In the end I would thus obtain: oldbranch <feb 1984> / master <jun 2010> | : Would that make sense at all? Is it even allowed in git to have a history where an old commit has a more recent commit as a parent? Edit A crucial question of Von C helped me understand what is going on: when your rebase, the committer's timestamp changes, but not the author's timestamp, which suddenly all makes sense. So my question was actually not precise enough. The answer is that rebase actually doesn't change the author's timestamps (you don't need to do anything for that), which suits me perfectly.
