• I'm installing mysql with homebrew, how do I set value to 'log_output'?

  I've been following directions here: brew install mysql on mac os and have now run into the same issue both on my home machine and work (both MacBook Pro running OSX 10.7.5 and ZSH): 121031 12:18:03 [ERROR] /usr/local/opt/mysql/bin/mysqld: Error while setting value '/Users/me/.mysql/logs/' to 'log_output' The full output of the error can be found in this gist: https://gist.github.com/3988275 I'm really at a loss for what I'm doing incorrectly or what I need to change. It should be noted that there are no logs for me to check in /usr/local/var/mysql. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  I'm trying to figure out the best way to represent some data. It basically follows the form Manufacturer.Product.Attribute = Value. Something like: Acme.*.MinimumPrice = 100 Acme.ProductA.MinimumPrice = 50 Acme.ProductB.MinimumPrice = 60 Acme.ProductC.DefaultColor = Blue So the minimum price across all Acme products is 100 except in the case of product A and B. I want to store this data in C# and have some function where GetValue("Acme.ProductC.MinimumPrice") returns 100 but GetValue("Acme.ProductA.MinimumPrice") return 50. I'm not sure how to best represent the data. Is there a clean way to code this in C#?

  How do I write the following in MYSQL? SELECT SUBSTRING(value - (1 TRAILING CHARACTER)) FROM table; Basically substring(value, 2) trims the first letters. But I need to trim the last letters. I can't use substring(value, -4, 3) because I don't know the length of the value.   I'm wondering how you'd recommend designin a class, given the fact that XNA Framework uses Struct all over the place? For example, a spite class, which may require a Vector2 and a Rectangle (both defined as Struct) to be accessed outside of the class. The issue come in when you try to write code like this: class Item { public Vetor2 Position {get; set;} public Item() { Position = new Vector2(5,5); } } Item i = new Item(); i.Positon.X = 20; // fails with error 'Cannot modify the return value of Item because it is not a variable.' // you must write code like this var pos = i.Position; pos.X++; i.Position = pos; The second option compiles and works, but it is just butt ugly. • Is there a way to efficiently update one value in dojo chart2d?

  I am looking for a way to update one and only one value in a dojox chart2d. There is a way to update an entire series, which involves mychart.updateSeries("myseriesname",array_of_data) mychart.render() but This is too slow for my application. What I want to do is be able to drag the mouse over a vertical bar chart and have the values change as I am doing it. Only one or two values will need to change, so there is no need to reload all of the plots, just the two or three values that are changing. Is there a method that will quickly update only one or two values without lag? Thanks, Nick O I may just end up writing my own css version :S

• How can you determine if Control.Visible is set via property or if the value is inherited

  I need to find a way to determine if the Visible property of a control is set via a property change or if is inheriting it value from its parent. Using the Reflector, I find that the functions this.GetVisibleCore() and this.GetState() are both internal methods so I cannot call them. The widgets themselves are created dynamically so I do not want to attach a method to the VisibleChanged event just after the creation of each widget so can try to monitor this property. If I have to, I guess I will but I am looking for something jsut a bit more elegant.

  Hi, If a disabled drop-down list is dynamically rendered to the page, it is still possible to use Firebug, or another tool, to tamper with the submitted value, and to remove the "disabled" HTML attribute. This code: protected override void OnLoad(EventArgs e) { var ddlTest = new DropDownList() {ID="ddlTest", Enabled = false}; ddlTest.Items.AddRange(new [] { new ListItem("Please select", ""), new ListItem("test 1", "1"), new ListItem("test 2", "2") }); Controls.Add(ddlTest); } results in this HTML being rendered: <select disabled="disabled" id="Properties_ddlTest" name="Properties$ddlTest"> <option value="" selected="selected">Please select</option> <option value="1">test 1</option> <option value="2">test 2</option> </select> The problem occurs when I use Firebug to remove the "disabled" attribute, and to change the selected option. On submission of the form, and re-creation of the field, the newly generated control has the correct value by the end of OnLoad, but by OnPreRender, it has assumed the identity of the submitted control and has been given the submitted form value. .NET seems to have no way of detecting the fact that the field was originally created in a disabled state and that the submitted value was faked. This is understandable, as there could be legitimate, client-side functionality that would allow the disabled attribute to be removed. Is there some way, other than a brute force approach, of detecting that this field's value should not have been changed? I see the brute force approach as being something crap, like saving the correct value somewhere while still in OnLoad, and restoring the value in the OnPreRender. As some fields have dependencies on others, that would be unacceptable to me.

  This is a very specific instance where I'm having difficulty getting Zend Form to produce the correct output and supply the correct validation. I may have to go create a composite element but thought I'd ask here first. Here is the HTML I'm trying to get Zend Form to produce.   Hi. I got a list of customers I thought I would list in a gridview or a repeater with customer html, it gone have paging. I'm gone have a checkbox for each customer in the list. Do you guys have any suggestions on how I should do to keep the checkbox value when I go to page 2-3-4 ect in the paging. I'm thinking a session to store the id of the checked customers. After I'm done setting the values they go to the database. Do you got any other ideas then the session I'm thinking of? thanks guys

• Can't return a String value and append it...why?

  I am writing an app and am having problems returning a simple string value, and I'm not sure why. The function I am using (within a file called APIManager.m) is: - (NSString*) returnVenueUrl { NSString *venueUrl = [devEnvironment stringByAppendingString:@"venue/id/"]; return venueUrl; } I can return this properly by doing this in another .m file: APIManager *apiManager = [APIManager apiManager]; NSLog(@"view venue URL is here: %@", [apiManager returnVenueUrl]); But when I go to append a variable cast as a String onto it, I get nothing.. venueURL = [apiManager returnVenueUrl]; venueURL = [venueURL stringByAppendingString:venueId]; NSLog(@"the Full Venue URL is: %", venueURL); If anyone has any advice on how to fix this, it would be much appreciated!

  I am attempting if use a variable to call a specific macro name. I have a macros file that is being imported {% import 'form-elements.html.twig' as forms %} Now in that file there are all the form element macros: text, textarea, select, radio etc. I have an array variable that gets passed in that has an elements in it: $elements = array( array( 'type'=>'text, 'value'=>'some value', 'atts'=>null, ), array( 'type'=>'text, 'value'=>'some other value', 'atts'=>null, ), ); {{ elements }} what im trying to do is generate those elements from the macros. they work just fine when called by name: {{ forms.text(element.0.name,element.0.value,element.0.atts) }} However what i want to do is something like this: {% for element in elements %} {{ forms[element.type](element.name,element.value,element.atts) }} {% endfor %} I have tried the following all resulting in the same error: {{ forms["'"..element.type.."'"](element.name,element.value,element.atts) }} {{ forms.(element.type)(element.name,element.value,element.atts) }} {{ forms.{element.type}(element.name,element.value,element.atts) }} This unfortunately throws the following error: Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'LogicException' with message 'Attribute "value" does not exist for Node "Twig_Node_Expression_GetAttr".' in Twig\Environment.php on line 541 Any help or advice on a solution or a better schema to use would be very helpful.

So my question is: using LINQ how would I find the maximum value associated with each distinct key across all of the dictionaries? I'm trying to learn Parser combinators by writing a C parser step by step. For the last 7/8 or so years I have almost exlusively used laptops, and so have fallen behind a bit with knowledge of various hardware technologies. Anyway, now I'm considering building a new desktop machine. Mainly for development work, but also would be nice to do a bit of gaming. The two main criteria are: I would like the first build to be relatively low cost. I would like to select components that will allow me to upgrade in the future without throwing too much away. • modalpopupextender.Show() wont fire

  I'm pretty new to developing for the web so bare with me. I have a company page with multiple locations and emails etc at each of these addresses. The idea is to have a single modalpopup to edit each type of data (one for email, one for urls, one for addresses etc). I link the modalpopupextender to a hiddenbutton and then call an edit function from various places where I can populate some hiddenfields and textboxes in the panel before showing it.   This method that uses method-level generics, that parses the values from a custom POJO, JXlistOfKeyValuePairs (which is exactly that). The only thing is that both the keys and values in JXlistOfKeyValuePairs are Strings. This method wants to taken in, in addition to the JXlistOfKeyValuePairs instance, a Class<T> that defines which data type to convert the values to (assume that only Boolean, Integer and Float are possible). It then outputs a HashMap with the specified type for the values in its entries. • C++ using cdb_read returns extra characters on some reads

  Hi All, I am using the following function to loop through a couple of open CDB hash tables. Sometimes the value for a given key is returned along with an additional character (specifically a CTRL-P (a DLE character/0x16/0o020)). I have checked the cdb key/value pairs with a couple of different utilities and none of them show any additional characters appended to the values. I get the character if I use cdb_read() or cdb_getdata() (the commented out code below). If I had to guess I would say I am doing something wrong with the buffer I create to get the result from the cdb functions.
