  • Model-View-Controller in JavaScript

    - by Casey Hope
tl;dr: How does one implement MVC in JavaScript in a clean way? I'm trying to implement MVC in JavaScript. I have googled and reorganized with my code countless times but have not found a suitable solution. (The code just doesn't "feel right".) Here's how I'm going about it right now. It's incredibly complicated and is a pain to work with (but still better than the pile of code I had before). It has ugly workarounds that sort of defeat the purpose of MVC. And behold, the mess, if you're really brave: // Create a "main model" var main = Model0(); function Model0() { // Create an associated view and store its methods in "view" var view = View0(); // Create a submodel and pass it a function // that will "subviewify" the submodel's view var model1 = Model1(function (subview) { view.subviewify(subview); }); // Return model methods that can be used by // the controller (the onchange handlers) return { 'updateModel1': function (newValue) { model1.update(newValue); } }; } function Model1(makeSubView) { var info = ''; // Make an associated view and attach the view // to the parent view using the passed function var view = View1(); makeSubView(view.__view); // Dirty dirty // Return model methods that can be used by // the parent model (and so the controller) return { 'update': function (newValue) { info = newValue; // Notify the view of the new information view.events.value(info); } }; } function View0() { var thing = document.getElementById('theDiv'); var input = document.getElementById('theInput'); // This is the "controller", bear with me input.onchange = function () { // Ugly, uses a global to contact the model main.updateModel1(this.value); }; return { 'events': {}, // Adds a subview to this view. 'subviewify': function (subview) { thing.appendChild(subview); } }; } // This is a subview. function View1() { var element = document.createElement('div'); return { 'events': { // When the value changes this is // called so the view can be updated 'value': function (newValue) { element.innerHTML = newValue; } }, // ..Expose the DOM representation of the subview // so it can be attached to a parent view '__view': element }; } How does one implement MVC in JavaScript in a cleaner way? How can I improve this system? Or is this the completely wrong way to go, should I follow another pattern?

  • Component returned failure code: 0x80600011 [nsIXSLTProcessorObsolete.transformDocument]

    - by Sean Ochoa
So, I'm using the XSLT plugin for JQuery, and here's my code: function AddPlotcardEventHandlers(){ // some code } function reportError(exception){ alert(exception.constructor.name + " Exception: " + ((exception.name) ? exception.name : "[unknown name]") + " - " + exception.message); } function GetPlotcards(){ $("#content").xslt("../xml/plotcards.xml","../xslt/plotcards.xsl", AddPlotcardEventHandlers, reportError); } Here's the modified jquery plugin. I say that its modified because I've added callbacks for success and error handling. /* * jquery.xslt.js * * Copyright (c) 2005-2008 Johann Burkard (<mailto:[email protected]>) * <http://eaio.com> * * Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person obtaining a * copy of this software and associated documentation files (the "Software"), * to deal in the Software without restriction, including without limitation * the rights to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, * and/or sell copies of the Software, and to permit persons to whom the * Software is furnished to do so, subject to the following conditions: * * The above copyright notice and this permission notice shall be included * in all copies or substantial portions of the Software. * * THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS * OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF * MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. • English to French translation of computing terminology

    - by Rich
I work in France as a Java programmer, mainly in French, but am a native English speaker. My level of French is pretty good (French wife!), but one thing I have problems with is working out whether to use English terminology or a French equivalent. Examples: lock (as in a synchronisation lock) - do I use the verb "locker" or do I use verrouiller? shard (databases) - "un shard" or "un tesson" (which means a shard of glass) ...and so-on... So, what do people recommend? Can anyone point out some good websites for translating this kind of terminology? The usual online translation tools are a bit too everyday English/French, not the slightly more specialised version that I find myself needing.

  • ff extension. how to pass parameters to a function in the oncommand attribute in menu

    - by encryptor
I have a ff extension which creates a popup and shows dynamic data in it. basically when the popup opens a js function is run which then constructs the popup list by appending the items like this var myMenuPopup = document.getElementById("file-popup4"); newItem = document.createElement("menuitem"); newItem.setAttribute("label", namelist[m]); newItem.setAttribute("id", "item" + m); Now I need to have the click functionality too on these newly added menuitems. putting the atttribute and forming the function is easy. I can have a function to be run when they are clicked. But i need to pass namelist[i] to the function and it will act according to the namelist parameter. If i do: newItem.setAttribute("oncommand" , finalclick(namelist[m])); it runs the function everytime the popup opens runs the function without even clicking on it on the other hand if i use quotes i.i if i do newItem.setAttribute("oncommand" , "finalclick(namelist[m])"); it doesnot open even on clicking giving error : namelist is not defined.

  • Windowsless property is not working in Firefox ONLY

    - by lmenaria
Hello, I have created a simple silverlight application to display some text at realtime from xml. The text display using HTML DIV tag. I have added plugin property windowless=true, enablehtmlaccess=true, background=transparent. On Silverlight I have added a Button "Continue" at Top & Bottom, which shows some message on that click. Silverlight Plugin resize based in XML contents. My code : MainPage.xaml: MainPage.xaml.cs: Creating HTML DIV on Application Start using : HtmlDocument _document = HtmlPage.Document; HtmlElement iDIV = _document.CreateElement("DIV"); iDIV.SetAttribute("id", "divHTMLViewer"); iDIV.SetStyleAttribute("position", "absolute"); iDIV.SetStyleAttribute("z-index", "1"); iDIV.SetStyleAttribute("display", "INLINE"); iDIV.SetStyleAttribute("top", "100px"); iDIV.SetStyleAttribute("height", "0px"); iDIV.SetStyleAttribute("width", "96%"); iDIV.SetStyleAttribute("left", "15px"); iDIV.SetStyleAttribute("text-align", "justify"); HtmlElement body = _document.GetElementsByTagName("BODY")[0] as HtmlElement; body.RemoveChild(iDIV); body.AppendChild(iDIV); Set the XML text : HtmlElement divHTMLViewer = HtmlPage.Document.GetElementById("divHTMLViewer"); sText = sText.Replace("<", "<").Replace(">", ""); divHTMLViewer.SetStyleAttribute("display", "none"); divHTMLViewer.SetStyleAttribute("width", "96%"); divHTMLViewer.SetStyleAttribute("top", "100px"); divHTMLViewer.SetStyleAttribute("left", "15px"); divHTMLViewer.RemoveStyleAttribute("color"); divHTMLViewer.RemoveStyleAttribute("fontSize"); divHTMLViewer.SetProperty("innerHTML", sText); divHTMLViewer.SetStyleAttribute("display", "INLINE"); setSilverlightControlHeight(UILAYOUT.INSTRUCTIONS); Silverlight Plugin size increase code : isilverlightControlHost.SetStyleAttribute("height", HtmlPage.Window.Eval("document.documentElement.scrollHeight").ToString() + "px"); isilverlightControlHost.SetStyleAttribute("position", "absolute"); All these code is working fine in Internet Explorer, Crome & Safari but "Continue" not visible in FIREFOX ONLY. So is there any issue with this code ? Code Sample :http://lm-bucket-for-forum-post.s3.amazonaws.com/HtMLViewerSilverLight.zip working sample : Just replace ".zip" with "TestPage.html" in above URL. • Use same project to create multiple applications on same device

    - by Mark.Prof
I am deploying a reader application with it's document packaged in the asset folder. Any branding is done by dynamically generating xml and resources as appropriate. The application name itself is also generated. Since it is the tag's "package" property that needs to be unique, I nevertheless have a problem installing more than one instance of this app. I would like to dynamically edit the manifest package attribute's value to reflect the document and brand that I am building. But this causes build problems, specifically the location of R.java is no longer available to the component package under which the code resides. Originally, the component package is the same as the application manifest package. But precisely this manifest package name is the part that needs to be variable. How should I best proceed?

  • using MODI in C# to read image - numbers with a length of 1 is missing

    - by keysersoze
I am about building an C#-application in which I am trying to read text from an gif-image (OCR) - I am using MODI and the images are a bit like a lotto coupon (random numbers in rows and columns). I now got the following code which read all numbers except single numbers (1, 2, 3...) MODI.Document objModi = new MODI.Document(); objModi.Create("C:\\image.gif"); objModi.OCR(MODI.MiLANGUAGES.miLANG_DANISH, true, true); MODI.Image image = (MODI.Image)objModi.Images[0]; MODI.Layout layout = image.Layout; I cannot change the content of the image but can I do anything with the above code so it can read the single numbers?

  • Zend Framework REST service HTTP status code problem

The only way I can think of to remove the appended error document is to add the following in my httpd.conf file: ErrorDocument 201 " " But what's the "corrent" way of doing this?

I've been working with relational databases for almost 20 years, and for most of that time I've been the lone DBA. The only one to set things up, explain how things work, fix the problems, make it go faster, etc., etc., yadda, yadda, yadda. I enjoy being 'the guy', but at the same time it gets hard. The description does not need to be detailed however; I am trying to find empirical evidence and professional opinion/fact to determine which of the three databases are best suited for the required size of company (stated or unstated). OS: Microsoft windows (XP or newer) Please consider the following, but full details are not necessary: Memory management Migration Design constraints Integrity (data and others) Triggers User constraints Ease of use Performance Crash Recovery (not the operating system) Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Also any info on Open source (to do with the three RDBMS) Thank you for your time and help. • jquery nodename returning undefined

    - by matthewsteiner
    This code isn't for anything in particular. I'm just trying to successfully get the tagName or nodeName of an element. However, when I run the following code, I always get an alert saying "undefined". I'm wondering if it's because this function executes when the document is ready? Is there a different place I should be doing this? Or is it probably my other javascript code conflicting somehow (I would doubt). $(document).ready(function(){ $('#first').hover(function() { alert($('#last').nodeName); }); });

  • jQuery in Opera User JS Doesn't Work

    - by Axonn
Hello ::- ). I'm playing with some Opera User JS. I included "1jquery.min.js" in my User JS folder (1 in front because Opera loads them alphabetically). Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be working. window.onload = OnWindowLoad; $(document).ready(function() { alert ($('#area_19')); }); function OnWindowLoad () { alert ($('#area_19')); alert(document.getElementById("area_19")); } What's interesting about this code is that the first two alerts come back in NULL, but the last one does find the object! So the element definitely exists in the page, but my jQuery seems unable to get it. What's even stranger is that the jQuery "ready" function works, indicating that I do have jQuery capability. I'm quite puzzled about all this ::- /. Hopefully somebody can give me a clue ::- ).

  • How do I sort in solr by term frequency in multiple fields?

    - by user1488380
I have been assigned a task that I should change our solr search to sort a list returned by solr by using the term frequency. Well, I´ve found a way to do so simply by using omitNorms="true". The problem is, that this won´t work when I am doing a field - search, say by name: q=name:jones Following this example I get a list of document whose term frequency is the highest for the "name" field. But What I wanted to achieve is to have a query that is giving my a list of documents whose term frequency is the highest for ALL fields. Example: If a User named Jones also has the word "Jones" in his biography 10 times I want that document ranked higher. Is that possible ?
