• Playing an Online mp3

- by Mohsen
I have a problem with playing online mp3s. I'm using latest version of javazoom's jlayer and basicplayer. Here is the exception: Caused by: javazoom.jlgui.basicplayer.BasicPlayerException: java.io.EOFException at javazoom.jlgui.basicplayer.BasicPlayer.initAudioInputStream(Unknown Source) at javazoom.jlgui.basicplayer.BasicPlayer.open(Unknown Source) ... 12 more Caused by: java.io.EOFException at java.io.DataInputStream.readInt(DataInputStream.java:375) at com.sun.media.sound.WaveFileReader.getFMT(WaveFileReader.java:244) at com.sun.media.sound.WaveFileReader.getAudioFileFormat(WaveFileReader.java:85) at javax.sound.sampled.AudioSystem.getAudioFileFormat(AudioSystem.java:985) at javazoom.jlgui.basicplayer.BasicPlayer.initAudioInputStream(Unknown Source) ... 15 more My java is 1.6.0_16. Certain files cannot be player through the Internet. I have a set of mp3s, playing one after the other. Randomly one mp3 doesn't work throwing above exception. Some mp3s can be played by calling again play() method if javazoom's basicplayer, but others can never be played online. I was able to find this post but I doubt if this really relates to my directx version or something. Mohsen

• Using client certificates with wget

- by Doc
I cannot get wget to use the client certificates. The documentation speaks about using the --certificate flag. The use of the certificate flag is clear, I set it to use the PEM version of the client certificate. But when I connect I get the following error: HTTP request sent, awaiting response... Read error (error:14094410:SSL routines: SSL3_READ_BYTES:sslv3 alert handshake failure; error:140940E5:SSL routines:SSL3_ READ_BYTES:ssl handshake failure) in headers. Giving up. ssl handshake failure means the client did not supply a correct client cert. Still the client cert I use, works in a browser. Note: When I disable client authentication on the server, wget can connect. Note: The use of curl is suggested, but I'd like to avoid the switch.

• Posting data from multiple servers routing through one server to client server

- by Swaroop Kundeti
I have 5 webservers behind Load balancer and we have a client server at other end. Client has white listed my 5 webserver public ip so that my webservers will post a file to the client server. Here the problem is my webservers is going to increase and i cannot always ask client to make my new webserver ip's white list. So i would like to make my infra this way, my webservers will post data to the client server routing from a single server. Like assume that web-1 is main server and the remaining 4 web servers will post data to client server routing through main web-1. I was told that this can be achieved by doing IP Tunneling. But i have no idea how to do that. Would be great for any kind of help.

• Windows Server 2003 AD User Properties Environment doesn't override end user Remote Desktop Client s

- by caleban
Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller and Windows XP workstations: Active Directory Users and Computers/Users/User/Properties/Environment/Client devices Connect client drives at logon Connect client printers at logon Shouldn't the above Terminal Services settings in Active Directory override the end user Remote Desktop client settings? In our environment the end user Remote Desktop Client settings take precedence. If printing is disabled on the client but enabled in the user's AD profile then printing is not available. Is this working by design or can I change something to allow the user environment settings in AD to override the end user settings RDC settings?

• WCF WebService: Client can't connect, as soon as request client cerficate is activated.

- by Hinek
I have an .NET 3.5 WCF WebService hostet in IIS 6 and using a SSL certificate. The communication between client and server works. Then I activate "request client certificate" and the client can't connect anymore Exception: System.ServiceModel.Security.SecurityNegotiationException: Could not establish secure channel for SSL/TLS with authority 'polizei-bv.stadt.hamburg.de'. Inner Exception: System.Net.WebException: The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel. The certificate, the client uses is in the certificate store (local computer), the root ca is int the trusted root certification authorities store. Where can I check for an explanation on the server side? How can I check if the client really supplies it's certificate (client is not on my side)?

• Mouse wheel not scrolling in JDialog but working in JFrame

- by Iulian Serbanoiu
Hello, I'm facing a frustrating issue. I have an application where the scroll wheel doesn't work in a JDialog window (but works in a JFrame). Here's the code: import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.event.*; public class Failtest extends JFrame { public static void main(String[] args) { new Failtest(); } public Failtest() { super(); setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.DISPOSE_ON_CLOSE); setTitle("FRAME"); JScrollPane sp1 = new JScrollPane(getNewList()); add(sp1); setSize(150, 150); setVisible(true); JDialog d = new JDialog(this, false);// NOT WORKING //JDialog d = new JDialog((JFrame)null, false); // NOT WORKING //JDialog d = new JDialog((JDialog)null, false);// WORKING - WHY? d.setTitle("DIALOG"); d.setDefaultCloseOperation(JDialog.DISPOSE_ON_CLOSE); JScrollPane sp = new JScrollPane(getNewList()); d.add(sp); d.setSize(150, 150); d.setVisible(true); } public JList getNewList() { String objs[] = new String[30]; for(int i=0; i<objs.length; i++) { objs[i] = "Item "+i; } JList l = new JList(objs); return l; } } I found a solution which is present as a comment in the java code - the constructor receiving a (JDialog)null parameter. Can someone enlighten me? My opinion is that this is a java bug. Tested on Windows XP-SP3 with 1 JDK and 2 JREs: D:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_17\bin>javac -version javac 1.6.0_17 D:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_17\bin>java -version java version "1.6.0_17" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.3-b01, mixed mode, sharing) D:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_17\bin>cd .. D:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_17>java -version java version "1.6.0_18" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_18-b07) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 16.0-b13, mixed mode, sharing) Thank you in advance, Iulian Serbanoiu PS: The problem is not new - the code is taken from a forum (here) where this problem was also mentioned - but no solutions to it (yet) LATER EDIT: The problem persists with jre/jdk_1.6.0_10, 1.6.0_16 also LATER EDIT 2: Back home, tested on linux (Ubuntu - lucid/lynx) - both with openjdk and sun-java from distribution repo and it works (I used the .class file compiled on Windows) !!! - so I believe I'm facing a JRE bug that happens on some Windows configurations.

• NullPointerException using datanucleus-json with S3

- by Matt
I'm using datanucleus 3.2.7 from Maven, trying to use the Amazon S3 JPA provider. Out of the box, Soapi provides you with a robust client library that abstracts away most all of the messy details of consuming the API and lets you concentrate on implementing your ideas. A few features include: A fully relational model of the API data set exposed via a fully 'dot navigable' IEnumerable (LINQ) implementation. Simply tell Soapi what you want and it will get it for you. e.g. "On my first question, from the author of the first comment, get the first page of comments by that person on any post" my.Questions.First().Comments.First().Owner.Comments.ToList(); (yes this is a real expression that returns the data as expressed!) Full coverage of the API, all routes and all parameters with an intuitive syntax. Strongly typed Domain Data Objects for all API data structures. Eager and Lazy Loading of 'stub' objects. Eager\Lazy loading may be disabled. When finer grained control of requests is desired, the core RouteMap objects may be leveraged to request data from any of the API paths using all available parameters as documented on the help pages. A rich Asynchronous implementation. A configurable request cache to reduce unnecessary network traffic and to simplify your usage logic. There is no need to go out of your way to be frugal. You may set a distinct cache duration for any particular route. A configurable request throttle to ensure compliance with the api terms of usage and to simplify your code in that you do not have to worry about and respond to 50X errors. The RequestCache and Throttled Queue are thread-safe, so can make as many requests as you like from as many threads as you like as fast as you like and not worry about abusing the api or having to write reams of management/compensation code. Configurable retry threshold that will, by default, make up to 3 attempts to retrieve a request before failing. Every request made by Soapi is properly formed and directed so most any http error will be the result of a timeout or other network infrastructure. A retry buffer provides a level of fault tolerance that you can rely on. An almost identical javascript library, Soapi.JS, and it's full figured big brother, Soapi.JS2, that will enable you to leverage your server cycles and bandwidth for only those tasks that require it and offload things like status updates to the client's browser. License Licensed GPL Version 2 license. Why is Soapi.CS GPL? Can I get an LGPL license for Soapi.CS? • AGPL License - does it apply in this scanerio?

- by user1645310
There is an AGPLv3 based software (Client) that makes web service calls (using SOAP) to another software (Server - commercial, cloud based). There is no common code or any connection whatsoever between these two except for the web service calls being made. My questions - Does the Server need to be AGPL too? I guess not - but would like to confirm. Let us say the end point URL for the Server can be configured on the Client side (by editing an XML file) to connect it to different Servers (again, there is no connection other than the webservice calls being made) does it require any of these Servers being AGPL? Are there any issues in running the Client as a DLL that is loaded by other commercial applications on users' desktops? Does it require these other applications also to be AGPL? Appreciate your quick response. Pluto!

• Java Developers: Is Ant still in the "main stream" for builds? Do we push new developers to learn it?

- by Sam Goldberg
We have been slowly replacing batch command files (windows .bat) which were simply jarring up the classes compiled in the developers IDE, with more comprehensive Ant builds (i.e. get from CVS, clean compile, jar, archive, email, etc.) I've spent a lot of time learning (and debugging issues) with Ant, so I'm most comfortable using it for these tasks. But I wonder if Ant is still in as wide usage as it was when I first started learning, or whether "the world has moved on" to something newer (and maybe slicker). (I've started to see more Maven build stuff distributed, which I've never used, for example.) The practical import of this question, is whether I push new developers to learn Ant, or whether they should be learning something else for builds? I'm never too on top of the trends, so it would be great to hear from other Java developers what they think is the best build tool, and what they think new developers should be learning.

• How to solve problems with movement in simple tile based multiplayer game?

- by Murlo
I'm making a simple tile based 2D multiplayer game in JavaScript using socket.io where you can move one tile every 200 ms. The two solutions I've tried are as follows: The client sends "walk one tile north" every 200 ms. Problem: People can easily hack the client to send the action more often. The client sends "walking north" and "stopped walking". Problem: Sometimes the player moves extra steps when "stopped walking" doesn't arrive in time. Do you know a way around these problems or is there a better way to do it? EDIT: Regarding the first solution I've tried adding validation on the server to check if it has been 200 ms since last movement. The problem is that latency still encourages people just to spam the action as much as possible, giving them an unfair advantage.

• Wide gap in my resume as a Java developer. What are must-have skills required to get hired those days? [closed]

- by OnlineAlien
For some legal reasons I haven't worked for anybody for the last 12 years. I am a java web developer or at least I am thinking so. For this period I have been working on my project- some sort of business network - and I did few small jobs, so right now I feel I am far behind in terms of my skills and the skills needed today. I lingered too long on Struts and Hibernate and thought that could the job for my project. I need to get a job, right now, so I am spending most of my time brushing my skills. My question is: What are the current necessary skills that could convince employers to hire me regardless of my past employment or the lack of it. Right now I am on AspectJ, IoC and Spring Thanks

• Protecting the integrity of a game state while minimizing amount of data sent

- by espais
I'm developing a game in PHP/jQuery, and naturally have to be wary of any sort of data coming from the client. At present, I have tables of data representing the map (2D roguelike), monsters, items, and player(s). Initially, my thought was to simply package it all in a JSON object and send it every game tick, however when actually looking at the data I realized that's quite a large packet to be sending. So, my question is what is a good approach for minimizing data sent to the client? Obviously I would need to figure out some way of validating whatever it sends back. Initially we'd hoped to do some minimal verification on the client-side, but each time we thought of one thing we could do it is immediately invalidated with tools like Firebug. Kind of an open question I realize, but we want to get this right before we move on with our implementation so we don't have to shoehorn in bugfixes later on.

• Java Plist XML Parsing

- by Jannis
Hello everyone, I'm parsing a (not well formed) Apple Plist File with java. My Code looks like this: InputStream in = new FileInputStream( "foo" ); XMLInputFactory factory = XMLInputFactory.newInstance(); XMLEventReader parser = factory.createXMLEventReader( in ); while (parser.hasNext()){ XMLEvent event = parser.nextEvent(); //code to navigate the nodes } The parts I"m parsing are looking like this: <dict> <key>foo</key><integer>123</integer> <key>bar</key><string>Boom & Shroom</string> </dict> My problem is now, that nodes containing a ampersand are not parsed like they should because the ampersand is representing a entity. What can i do to get the value of the node as a complete String, instead of broken parts? Thank you in advance.

• Need Java https proxy which can be enhanced to emulate production https proxy behaviour

- by Thorbjørn Ravn Andersen
I have a production environment which require access through a proxy server. Occasionally said server returns blank responses badly confusing the Metro web service library causing all kinds of interesting RuntimeExceptions. I believe the proxy is Squid. In order to handle these better, I would like to set up a similar scenario here with a local proxy under my control causing all kinds of interesting failures. A quick survey strongly indicated I was not asking right. So, the question is, is there a simple, open source HTTPS/HTTP whatever proxy written in Java suitable for this purpose?
