  • SetWindowLongPtr with DialogBoxParam?

    - by templatetypedef
    Hey all- A while back I was writing a C++ program with the Win32 API that would display a dialog box and then listen to the messages it generated. At one point, I was interested in associating a piece of data with the dialog window. Were I manually creating the window and attaching a window proc, I'd just use SetWindowLongPtr to set the GWLP_USERDATA field to a pointer to the data to associate. However, in this case I was creating and displaying the window with DialogBoxParam, and it wasn't clear whether this function was associating that data with its own internal state. Since the MSDN didn't have a description of what would happen in this case, I ended up using some other approach to solve the problem. My question is this - is it safe to use SetWindowLongPtr to overwrite the GWLP_USERDATA value in a window created by DialogBoxParam? Thanks!

  • Eclipse plugin to measure programmer performance/stats

    - by trenki
    Does anyone know of an Eclipse plugin that can give me some stats about my behavior/usage of the Eclipse IDE? There are quite a few things I would like to know: How often/when do I invoke the "Build All" command (through Ctrl+B) How often does compilation fail/succeed (+ number of errors/warnings) How often do I hit Backspace? (I do that way to often; If pressing that key would give a nasty sound I would in time learn to type correctly in the first place) How many characters/lines of code that I typed do I delete (possibly quite immediately) How (effective/efficient/...) is my Mouse/Keyboard/IDE usage? (Kinda like measuring APM in StarCraft; this could be fun) If there is no such Eclipse plugin around, how complex and time consuming would It be to write a plugin that can accomplish the above?

  • What is the difference between these two ways of creating NSStrings?

    - by adame
    NSString *myString = @"Hello"; NSString *myString = [NSString stringWithString:@"Hello"]; I understand that using method (1) creates a pointer to a string literal that is defined as static memory (and cannot be deallocated) and that using (2) creates an NSString object that will be autoreleased. Is using method (1) bad? What are the major differences? Is there any instances where you would want to use (1)? Is there a performance difference? P.S. I have searched extensively on Stack Overflow and while there are questions on the same topic, none of them have answers to the questions I have posted above.

  • [C++] Needed: A simple C++ container (stack, linked list) that is thread-safe for writing

    - by conradlee
    I am writing a multi-threaded program using OpenMP in C++. At one point my program forks into many threads, each of which need to add "jobs" to some container that keeps track of all added jobs. Each job can just be a pointer to some object. Basically, I just need the add pointers to some container from several threads at the same time. Is there a simple solution that performs well? After some googling, I found that STL containers are not thread-safe. Some stackoverflow threads address this question, but none form a consensus on a simple solution.

  • View OS X Desktop on windows remotely at higher resolution then hosting machine

    - by Elijha
    I have a new macbook air 11, which I do some web based programming on, I have a windows box with a 1920x1200 display which I'd like to use to view the mac desktop and keep working at home when I can - taking advantage of the higher resolution screen and full sized keyboard/mouse. I don't think VNC or such is the answer I'm looking for as it would restrict the display to the airs 1366x768 - negating the main benefit more lines of text on screen. From some rudimentary googleing I think I'm after some sort of x-windows / x-11 remote display. But I'm not a Linux user and any discussion seems to be about linux os x or windows Linux setups. Can anyone provide a clear set of instructions on how to do this or an application that can do this.

  • Strange C++ thread function invocation

    - by Tony
    I have the following: class DThread { virtual void run()=0; _beginthreadex(NULL,0,tfunc,this,0,&m_UIThreadID); // class itself being passed as param to thread function... static unsigned int __stdcall tfunc(void* thisptr) { static_cast<DThread*>(thisptr)->run(); return 0; } //other stuff } The run function is implemented in a derived class. Why is the function that's being called in the thread being called through a cast this pointer? Is this good practise? Can't it just be called directly? The actual function needing to run is in the derived class. My question is

  • Layout of popup components changes while moving

    - by Le_Coeur
    I have designed some popup moving menu with JQuery, it looks perfekt in webkit browsers, but i have one problem in mozilla, when i move my popup window, layout of some components in this window changes! For example button add changes from: to: or to: , and it's absolutly random. What can it be? This image is in span: <span class="sw_link_add"></span> .sw_link_add { background:url("/img/confirm_new.png") no-repeat scroll right center transparent; cursor:pointer; padding-right:30px; padding-top:2px; }

  • Creating a popup tool bar in a full screen NSOpenGLView (OSX Cocoa)

    - by Mike2012
    I have a Cocoa app in which one of my NSOpenGLViews can go into full screen mode (I do this with the method enterFullScreenMode:withOptions:). I would like to create a little widget that when you mouse over it, a toolbar pops up with some different controls. I am wondering what would be the best way to implement this widget? At first I thought about using a panel but I don't think you can bring up any windows when in full screen mode. Also, it seems that you can't add a subview to an NSOpenGLView? Are these two assumptions correct? What else could I use to accomplish this?

  • WPF Button on or off coloured state

    - by wonea
    I'm trying to create a set of button which have an off or on state, much a checkbox without the check. Ideally I want the colour to change to represent the two different states off(red), green(on). I've tried setting a control template but this only changes the colour for a selection, then reverts back to it's original colour once the mouse leaves the button's vicinity. <ControlTemplate.Triggers> <Trigger Property="IsPressed" Value="True"> <Setter Property="Background" TargetName="Background" Value="Green"/> </Trigger> </ControlTemplate.Triggers>

  • C++: Allocation of variables in a loop

    - by Rosarch
    Let's say I have a loop like this: vector<shared_ptr<someStruct>> vec; int i = 0; while (condition) { i++ shared_ptr<someStruct> sps(new someStruct()); WCHAR wchr[20]; memset(wchr, i, 20); sps->pwsz = wchr; vec.push_back(sps); } At the end of this loop, I see that for each sps element of the vector, sps->pwsz is the same. Is this because I'm passing a pointer to memory allocated in a loop, which is destructed after each iteration, and then refilling that same memory on the next iteration?

  • Need guidance for my first Android application: how many activities should I use?

    - by jul
    Hi, I'm starting Android doing an application for searching restaurants, and some guidance would be welcome! On the first screen I'd like to have a search field with a submit button (I get the data from a web service), and below a list with the results of the search. When clicking on one of the items of the list it will show a screen with the restaurant details as well as a map showing its location. My questions are: Can I do everything in one single activity or should I do an activity for the search, one for the result list, one for the restaurant description, and another for the map? Would doing one single activity make the application more responsive? How can I use a list and a map within a normal activity (without ListActivity and MapActivity)? Any help, pointer, example application or sample code is very appreciated! Thank you Jul

  • ActionScript - Automatic containment and repositioning of object bounds

    - by TheDarkIn1978
    when adding objects arbitrarily to the stage with mouse clicks, is there a more simple way to making sure the object's bounds do not exceed those of the stage? currently i'm calling something like this before adding the object to the display list: var newSwatchRect:Rectangle = newSwatch.getBounds(this); if (newSwatchRect.x < stage.x) {newSwatchRect.x = stage.x;} if (newSwatchRect.y < stage.y) {newSwatchRect.y = stage.y;} if (newSwatchRect.x + newSwatchRect.width > stage.stageWidth) {newSwatchRect.x = stage.stageWidth - newSwatchRect.width;} if (newSwatchRect.y + newSwatchRect.height > stage.stageHeight) {newSwatchRect.y = stage.stageHeight - newSwatchRect.height;}

  • C++ Iterators and inheritance

    - by jomnis
    Have a quick question about what would be the best way to implement iterators in the following: Say I have a templated base class 'List' and two subclasses "ListImpl1" and "ListImpl2". The basic requirement of the base class is to be iterable i.e. I can do: for(List<T>::iterator it = list->begin(); it != list->end(); it++){ ... } I also want to allow iterator addition e.g.: for(List<T>::iterator it = list->begin()+5; it != list->end(); it++){ ... } So the problem is that the implementation of the iterator for ListImpl1 will be different to that for ListImpl2. I got around this by using a wrapper ListIterator containing a pointer to a ListIteratorImpl with subclasses ListIteratorImpl2 and ListIteratorImpl2, but it's all getting pretty messy, especially when you need to implement operator+ in the ListIterator. Any thoughts on a better design to get around these issues?

  • Array-size macro that rejects pointers

    - by nneonneo
    The standard array-size macro that is often taught is #define ARRAYSIZE(arr) (sizeof(arr) / sizeof(arr[0])) or some equivalent formation. However, this kind of thing silently succeeds when a pointer is passed in, and gives results that can seem plausible at runtime until things mysteriously fall apart. It's all-too-easy to make this mistake: a function that has a local array variable is refactored, moving a bit of array manipulation into a new function called with the array as a parameter. So, the question is: is there a "sanitary" macro to detect misuse of the ARRAYSIZE macro in C, preferably at compile-time? In C++ we'd just use a template specialized for array arguments only; in C, it seems we'll need some way to distinguish arrays and pointers. (If I wanted to reject arrays, for instance, I'd just do e.g. (arr=arr, ...) because array assignment is illegal).

  • Memory allocated with malloc does not persist outside function scope?

    - by PM
    Hi, I'm a bit new to C's malloc function, but from what I know it should store the value in the heap, so you can reference it with a pointer from outside the original scope. I created a test program that is supposed to do this but I keep getting the value 0, after running the program. What am I doing wrong? int f1(int * b) { b = malloc(sizeof(int)); *b = 5; } int main() { int * a; f1(a); printf("%d\n", a); return 0; }

  • Activate first workbook after closing second one?

    - by user1830217
    Open workbook A. Code in A opens workbook B. B is now the active WB. Code in B ends with ThisWorkBook.Close B closes, so A appears. Problem is, I can't get ANY Activate events in WB A to fire automatically after WB B closes. But if I close WB B manually, using mouse to 'x' out the WB, or via the menus, then WB A triggers Activate events. Somehow using VBA to close WB B prevents WB A Activate events from triggering. Same results in Excel 97 and 2003 Am I missing something, or is there a workaround?? Thanks! John

  • C++ operator[] syntax.

    - by Lanissum
    Just a quick syntax question. I'm writing a map class (for school). If I define the following operator overload: template<typename Key, typename Val> class Map {... Val* operator[](Key k); What happens when a user writes: Map<int,int> myMap; map[10] = 3; Doing something like that will only overwrite a temporary copy of the [null] pointer at Key k. Is it even possible to do: map[10] = 3; printf("%i\n", map[10]); with the same operator overload?

  • Embedded quicktime video pause on click how to prevent?

    - by Marek
    I embedded a quicktime video in firefox. It works, but i would like to prevent the users to stop the video by clicking on it with the left mouse button. Reading the apple documentation i didn't find any answear. I came up with a workaround, i just put an almost invisible div over the whole video. The workaround works in firefox for os X, but oddly does not for the same version of firefox in windows. I would appreciate a way, workaround or not, to achive this at least in the windows/firefox environment. Thanks!

  • Button border radius and cursor

    - by noober
    CSS border radius does affect button rendering (I see it's round form), but does not affect how it interacts with the user (I still can click button outside its border). How should I fix it? I see the behavior in Chrome. button { cursor: pointer; outline: none; background-size: 100% 100%; background-color: red; /*transparent;*/ /* It's actually red and ROUND. */ background-position: center center; background-repeat: no-repeat; border: 0px; -webkit-border-top-left-radius: 73px; -webkit-border-top-right-radius: 73px; -webkit-border-bottom-left-radius: 73px; -webkit-border-bottom-right-radius: 73px; width: 146px; height: 146px; background-image: url('leftarrow.png'); } Regards,

  • (g)Vim with version control like Eclipse

    - by Somebody still uses you MS-DOS
    I was an Eclipse user, now I have to use Vim in my machine. I used to "compare" a file I edited with a CVS repository to do merges an commit the files, using a context menu and my mouse. Is this possible in Vim? Opening a vimdiff for a file before commiting, and commit it from vim itself? And how is that supposed to work? I'm supposing I would be editing a file. Then, I want to see the modifications. I run vimdiff in gvim, and a new window (or buffer) is opened. I run the modifications, save what is applicable (using vimdiff commands), and commit running another command. Is this all transparent in vim? Do I have to keep getting out of vim to my terminal, or can all be done inside it? Do I need to use some plugins, or just really simple functions inside my vimrc?
