  • Running jira at jira.[my domain].com

    I have jira installed on my server. It was running at http://[my ip address]:8100. I could manage to change it to http://jira.[my domain].com. Now after I access it at http://jira.[my domain].com, a browser path changes to http://jira.[my domain].com:8100/secure/Dashboard.jspa. Why does the port show up? Is there any way to remove 8100 port from this redirect. I'd like it to be http://jira.[my domain].com/secure/Dashboard.jspa Also my jira now responds both to jira.[my domain].com and [my ip address]:8100. The latter one is corrupted. Is it possible to stop user accessing it? Thank you!

  • My old Conchango blog posts are currently not accessible

    Some of you reading this may be aware that I used to blog at http://blogs.conchango.com/jamiethomson. That URL later changed to http://consultingblogs.emc.com/jamiethomson after Conchango (my employer) got taken over by EMC. In my last post on that site: I stated that I had 676 blog posts on that site. Unfortunately, as of today, those 676 posts are inaccessible. If you try to get to http://consultingblogs.emc.com/jamiethomson today you will see this: I am not the only one affected either; it seems that EMC have taken the same action for many blog sites of my old colleagues (e.g. http://consultingblogs.emc.com/merrickchaffer is also inaccessible). Early indications are that EMC have removed all blog posts by any former employees although that is yet to be confirmed.   A few of us former employees are endeavouring to get this situation rectified so watch this space. I am aware that many people in the SSIS community still refer to those old blog posts so please be aware that any attempt to access any of them will be futile for the foreseeable future. @Jamiet UPDATE: Looks like I managed to get through to the right person. its back http://consultingblogs.emc.com/jamiethomson/

I’m so afraid about it because these two pages are same with same content. Does google consider these two pages as duplicate? If so what can I do now? Is it really a big problem to my blog?

  • Need help choosing between Grails and Yii Framework

    I recently started on developing in PHP with the Yii Framework. I recently came across the Grails Framework and I'm pretty impressed by the sites they make, bigger companies seem to use Grails for their web development. When looking at yii, not many big companies are using it. I'm just starting out with the Yii framework and I don't want to turn back halfway when in the middle of learning Yii, so I hope someone can give me some comparison about the 2 in terms of power. Does Grails make things much easier and benefit me in the long run? I only have C++ background for now. It boils down to this. I want a powerful framework which will serve me for a very long time and by looking at the number of big companies using Grails, I feel discouraged to take the Yii path. Thank you!   • Welcome files are not loaded! Need help with Railo, mappings and J2EE configuration!

    I have installed a J2EE Server (tried it with Glassfish3, Tomcat6 and Resin4) on Win7 64bit and deployed Railo3.1. I have then added a virtual host to the J2EE server, i.e. Resin: <host host-name="railo"> C:/resin/webapps/railo In the Railo Admin i have added this mapping: Virtual Physical / C:/webapps/ When i access http://railo:8080/ my index.cfm welcome file in C:/webapps/ is loaded (index.cfm is definded in Railos web.xml). When i try to access http://railo:8080/test which contains the same index.cfm i get an 500 Servlet Exception java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\webapps\test (access denied) (on all J2EE Servers i tried so far). http://railo:8080/test/index.cfm works fine. I already tried to add index.cfm to Resins welcome-file-list in app-default.xml to no avail. I want to be able to access deployed apps without this url: http://localhost:8080/app/ Instead i want to use this: http://app:8080/

  • Multiple 301 redirect and massive loss of ranking

    I just remade from scratch a website for a client, the client ask me to preverve their ranking by making 301 redirect from the original URL to the new URL. For instance: http://plumber-directory.my-website.com/john-smith-city-1.php became http://directory.my-website.com/plumber/city/john-smith.html So i put the website online for few days until the 301 partially kicks in the google results. Then the client call me back to tell me that his boss want to switch back to the ancients URLs _< So i put a new 301 redirect: http://directory.my-website.com/plumber/city/john-smith.html revert to http://plumber-directory.my-website.com/john-smith-city-1.php Because google had just few days to assimilate the new URLs, it have now the two kinds of URLs in it's own result pages. Also the ranking of the website keeps falling down every day, i suspect google to mistaking those redirects for duplicate content. Is there something i can do to avoid a total loss of rankings?

  • How Does One Make a Sitemap for a Flex Website?

    Hi, I've got a Flex website and I'm not sure how to make a sitemap for it. For a standard HTML page, sitemaps are straight forward. As Flex sites use a "pageless" architecture, I'm not sure what I should do. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. UPDATE: As I understand it, Google doesn't look at anything after the # in a URL. So in a deeplinked Flex site, Google wouldn't see the second page-- where it reads view=12 in the sample sitemap below. Or does Google handle sitemaps differently?     I'm considering adding robots "noindex, follow" tags to the very numerous product data pages that are linked from the product style pages in our online store. For example, each product style has a page with full text content on the product: http://www.shop.example/Product/Category/Style/SOME-STYLE-CODE Then many data pages with technical data for each model code is linked from the product style page. http://www.shop.example/Product/Category/Style/SOME-STYLE-CODE-1 http://www.shop.example/Product/Category/Style/SOME-STYLE-CODE-2 http://www.shop.example/Product/Category/Style/SOME-STYLE-CODE-3 It is these technical data pages that I intend to add the no index code to, as I imagine that this might stop these pages from cannibalizing keyword authority for more important content rich pages on the site. Any advice appreciated.

  • SPARC T3-1 Record Results Running JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Day in the Life Benchmark with Added Batch Component

    Using Oracle's SPARC T3-1 server for the application tier and Oracle's SPARC Enterprise M3000 server for the database tier, a world record result was produced running the Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne applications Day in the Life benchmark run concurrently with a batch workload. The SPARC T3-1 server based result has 25% better performance than the IBM Power 750 POWER7 server even though the IBM result did not include running a batch component. The SPARC T3-1 server based result has 25% better space/performance than the IBM Power 750 POWER7 server as measured by the online component. The SPARC T3-1 server based result is 5x faster than the x86-based IBM x3650 M2 server system when executing the online component of the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0.1 Day in the Life benchmark. The IBM result did not include a batch component. The SPARC T3-1 server based result has 2.5x better space/performance than the x86-based IBM x3650 M2 server as measured by the online component. The combination of SPARC T3-1 and SPARC Enterprise M3000 servers delivered a Day in the Life benchmark result of 5000 online users with 0.875 seconds of average transaction response time running concurrently with 19 Universal Batch Engine (UBE) processes at 10 UBEs/minute. The solution exercises various JD Edwards EnterpriseOne applications while running Oracle WebLogic Server 11g Release 1 and Oracle Web Tier Utilities 11g HTTP server in Oracle Solaris Containers, together with the Oracle Database 11g Release 2. The SPARC T3-1 server showed that it could handle the additional workload of batch processing while maintaining the same number of online users for the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Day in the Life benchmark. This was accomplished with minimal loss in response time. JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0.1 takes advantage of the large number of compute threads available in the SPARC T3-1 server at the application tier and achieves excellent response times. The SPARC T3-1 server consolidates the application/web tier of the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0.1 application using Oracle Solaris Containers. Containers provide flexibility, easier maintenance and better CPU utilization of the server leaving processing capacity for additional growth. A number of Oracle advanced technology and features were used to obtain this result: Oracle Solaris 10, Oracle Solaris Containers, Oracle Java Hotspot Server VM, Oracle WebLogic Server 11g Release 1, Oracle Web Tier Utilities 11g, Oracle Database 11g Release 2, the SPARC T3 and SPARC64 VII+ based servers. This is the first published result running both online and batch workload concurrently on the JD Enterprise Application server. No published results are available from IBM running the online component together with a batch workload. The 9.0.1 version of the benchmark saw some minor performance improvements relative to 9.0. When comparing between 9.0.1 and 9.0 results, the reader should take this into account when the difference between results is small. Performance Landscape JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Day in the Life Benchmark Online with Batch Workload This is the first publication on the Day in the Life benchmark run concurrently with batch jobs.   • Should my URLs be lowercase?

    According to this blog ("Understanding SEO Friendly URL Syntax Practices") I should change http://example.com/Hello-Dolly To http://example.com/hello-dolly The reasons given are: URLs, in general, are case-sensitive it will simplify any case sensitive SEO and analytics reports According to this GIF that I found on Wikipedia's article on URL Normalization I should convert my URLs from any uppercase to all lowercase. However I use ASP.NET MVC4 and by default my URLs are structured like this (CamelCase): http://www.domain.com/Controller/Action/Parameter http://www.greatsite.com/Categories/List/Bicycles I've skimmed through the RFC1738 but I didn't see any definitive answers to this. Should I go out of my way to force the framework to change everything to lower case? Why did Microsoft choose to design their framework like this if everybody is telling me to use lowercase?

  • resolv.conf doesn't get set on reboot when networking is configured for static ip

    I'm experiencing, what appears to be a hostname resolution issue in ubuntu 12.04 server edition when configuring my computer to use a static ip. In /etc/network/interfaces: # The primary network interface auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.1.28 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1 Running $ sudo apt-get upgrade, results in a 'Failed to fetch...': . . . W: Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/precise-backports/universe/i18n/Translation-en_US Something wicked happened resolving 'us.archive.ubuntu.com:http' (-5 - No address associated with hostname) W: Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/precise-backports/universe/i18n/Translation-en Something wicked happened resolving 'us.archive.ubuntu.com:http' (-5 - No address associated with hostname) E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead. When I change my /etc/network/interfaces to: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp Everything works fine. Looking into /etc/resolv.conf provides some more hints...In cases where I was getting the resolving issue, resolve.conf was empty. No nameservers were specified. When I changed to dhcp from static and restarted networking. /etc/resolv.conf gets written to: 'nameserver 192.168.1.1'. Switching back from dhcp to static and restarting doesn't remove the nameserve entry. When I restart the system with static set, resolv.conf is empty. When I restart the system with dhcp set, resolv.conf has nameserver 192.168.1.1. So it appears that the issue is that resolve.conf is not getting written to correctly? Which package/code is responsible for writing to resolv.conf? Is there a particular package that I can take a look at open issues?
