  • C# PropertyGrid drag drop

    - by gametheoryonline
I'm trying to implement drag/drop support to a propertygrid in C# using VS2005 (.NET 2.0). The propertygrid can handle the dragenter etc. events, but there doesn't seem to be a way to get the griditem under the pointer during a drag event. The best I've been able to get so far is to use the selectedgriditem property to retrieve a custom propertydescriptor and set the value, but this requires a grid item to already be selected before starting the drag/drop operation. Has anyone had any luck with implementing this? Thanks :-)

  • Is there a chance that sending an email via a thread could ever fail to complete?

    - by Benjamin Dell
I have a project where I send a couple of emails via a seperet thread, to speed up the process for the end-user. It works successfully, but i was just wondering whether there were any potfalls that i might not have considered? My greatest fear is that the user clicks a button, it says that the message has been sent (as it will have been sent to the thread for sending) but for some reason the thread might fail to send it. Are there any situations where a thread could be aborted prematurely? Please note, that i am not talking about network outages or obvious issues with an email recipient not existing. For simplicites sake please assume that the connect is up, the mail server alive and the recipient valid. Is it possible, for example, for the thread to abort prematurely if the user kills the browser before the thread has completed? This might be a silly question, but i just wanted to make sure i knew the full ramifications of using a thread in this manner. Thanks, in advance, for your help.

  • Finding the angle of a fleeing dodo.

    - by donthackmyacc
I'm coding some critter AI for a game i am working on for my Unity 3D project. I have no programming background and have been stumbling through this using tutorials and other peoples scripts. My problem is that i want my critter to run directly away from the player when the player kicks it. I need the dodo to run directly away from the player when kicked, and i dont know the math nor the syntax to calculate that angle. They are two characters moving independently through worldspace. Here is what i got so far: waypoint = (fleeWP.transform.position); transform.LookAt(Vector3(waypoint.x, transform.position.y, waypoint.z)); transform.Translate (Vector3.forward * speed * Time.deltaTime); This currently makes the critter move towards the waypoint, rather than away. I might be attacking this all wrong. Please chastise me.

  • Migrate from VB.net to C#

    - by rowmark
Hello Experts, I have been developing applications using VB.net for the past 5 years. As I tried to learn Java earlier and found it very difficult for me I did stick on to VB.net. And for me C# is more or less similar to Java. Now I cannot get away with it. I have to code on C#. Is there a way I can get to speed with C# fast. I would really appreciate if you can let me know your thoughts and if there are any good resources I can try.

  • A resource for installation or setup folder hierarchy of various applications

    - by Luay
Is there a web site (or something else) that has information on folders and their hierarchy where various programs and applications are installed? Please let me explain. I am writing an application that (part of what it does) references certain files installed by other application. To be able to determine the file paths for these folders I have to download and install each application seperatly on my development pc, search for the file I want, and then write its path in my application. This method is very time consuming and, frankly, boring, as it requires downloading and installing each application (some of them in excess of 600MB) and then locating the required file just to be able to "know" its path. So, I was wondering if there is something that could speed things up. like, for example, a website that would have such information. I tried each of the applications own website for information but no dice. Any help from you will be much appreciated. Many thanks

  • Socket programming question

    - by dfddf
I am given the following declaration: char inbuff[500], *ptr; int n, bufferlen; Write a program segement to receive a message having 500 bits from the TCP socket sock and store this message in inbuff. My answer is: n = recv( sock, inbuff, strlen( inbuff ), 0 ); However, I am not sure why *ptr is given in the declaration. So, I would like ask, what is the purpose of the pointer in this question?? Or my program segement is wrong? Thank you for all of yours help first!

  • The shortest way to convert infix expressions to postfix (RPN) in C

    - by kuszi
Original formulation is given here (you can try also your program for correctness) . Additional rules: 1. The program should read from standard input and write do standard output. 2. The program should return zero to the calling system/program. 3. The program should compile and run with gcc -O2 -lm -s -fomit-frame-pointer. The challenge has some history: the call for short implementations has been announced at the Polish programming contest blog in September 2009. After the contest, the shortest code was 81 chars long. Later on the second call has been made for even shorter code and after the year matix2267 published his solution in 78 bytes: main(c){read(0,&c,1)?c-41&&main(c-40&&(c%96<27||main(c),putchar(c))):exit(0);} Anyone to make it even shorter or prove this is impossible?

  • doubt in sizeof implementation

    - by aks
Below is the program to find the size of a structure without using sizeof operator: struct MyStruct { int i; int j; }; int main() { struct MyStruct *p=0; int size = ((char*)(p+1))-((char*)p); printf("\nSIZE : [%d]\nSIZE : [%d]\n", size); return 0; } My doubt is: Why is typecasting to char * required? If I don't use the char* pointer, the output is 1 - WHY?

  • How to append text to a text file in WinAPI?

    - by Bruce
Hi guys, Ive got an annoying problem, I cant append any text to the text file. Every time I open it for writing, I overwrite the data. I tried to move the file pointer to the end of the file, but no result (no writing to the file at all). Here is the code: INVOKE CreateFile, offset filePath, GENERIC_WRITE, FILE_SHARE_WRITE, 0, OPEN_ALWAYS,FILE_ATTRIBUTE_NORMAL,0 mov hFile, eax mov edx, 10 INVOKE SetFilePointer, hFile, 0, 0, FILE_END INVOKE WriteFile, hFile, offset buffer, edx, ADDR SizeReadWrite, NULL INVOKE CloseHandle, hFile Any ideas? • Google Maps API v3... non-mobile?

    - by andrhamm
I'm trying to make a Google Maps widget for my website but all of the examples are for full-screen mobile devices. The tutorials work when I copy paste them exactly as shown but they don't seem to work when I want them to only occupy a portion of the page. From what I've read, the v3 is the best API yet (for what I need) because of its speed and compatibility with mobile devices. I plan to make a widget very similar to the MarkerClusterer example from the demo gallery but I can't get it working. Is this a common issue? I know I'm being vague but I would appreciate some help. Thanks

  • Interrupting `while loop` with keyboard in Cython

    - by linello
I want to be able to interrupt a long function with cython, using the usual CTRL+C interrupt command. My C++ long function is repeatedly called inside a while loop from Cython code, but I want to be able, during the loop, to send an "interrupt" and block the while loop. The interrupt also should wait the longFunction() to finish, so that no data are lost or kept in unknown status. This is one of my first implementation, which obviously doesn't work: computed=0; print "Computing long function..." while ( computed==0 ): try: computed = self.thisptr.aLongFunction() except (KeyboardInterrupt, SystemExit): computed=1 print '\n! Received keyboard interrupt.\n' break; (p.s. self.thisptr is the pointer to the current class which implements aLongFunction() )

  • Treat a void function as a value

    - by Brendan Long
I'm writing some terrible, terrible code, and I need a way to put a free() in the middle of a statement. The actual code is: int main(){ return printf("%s", isPalindrome(fgets(malloc(1000), 1000, stdin))?"Yes!\n":"No!\n") >= 0; // leak 1000 bytes of memory } I was using alloca(), but I can't be sure that will actually work on my target computer. My problem is that free returns void, so my code has this error message: error: void value not ignored as it ought to be The obvious idea I had was: int myfree(char *p){ free(p); return 0; } Which is nice in that it makes the code even more unreadable, but I'd prefer not to add another function. I also briefly tried treating free() as a function pointer, but I don't know if that would work, and I don't know enough about C to do it properly. Note: I know this is a terrible idea. Don't try this at home kids.

  • What was that tutorial on pointers?

    - by pecker
Hello, I once read a tutorial/article on Pointers somewhere. It was not a general tutorial but it explained how to clearly understand the complex & confusing pointers (especially like the ones that are usually asked in interview). It was more like http://www.codeweblog.com/right-left-rule-complex-pointer-analysis/ I'm unable to find it. Could any one post it here. PS: I did tried to google it but couldn't find. I'm asking it here because I thought it was popular.

  • multiple C++ deletion of a memory pointed by multiple objects

    - by elgcom
Another c++ pointer deletion question is in the following example: class Foo { public: int *p; ~Foo() { delete p; p = NULL; } }; Foo *f1 = new Foo(); Foo *f2 = new Foo(); f1->p = new int(1); f2->p = f1->p; delete f2; // ok delete f1; // no error? Why I did not get error when calling "delete f1"? didn't I delete the same address (*p) twice? If I directly delete the pointers in the last 2 lines of code, I will get error. delete f2->p; // ok delete f1->p; // error!! *** glibc detected *** double free or corruption (fasttop) ***

  • iPhone StoreKit development: Can't create a test user?

    - by Cruinh
I'm trying to get up to speed on how to develop an in-app store using the new 3.0 SDK... but I'm a bit stuck in that I don't seem to be able to create a test account. The iTunes Connect FAQ states "To create test users for your sandbox environment, go to the Manage Users section of iTunes Connect and select In App Purchase Test User. Your test users will not have iTunes Connect access. They will just have access to the sandbox environment." ...but when I go to that Manage Users section, there's no mention of any sort of "In App Purschase Test User" or how to make one. Did I miss doing something to enable that? There is another section of that same FAQ that seems to suggest I need to have a paid app in the store first? Is that the reason I can't even use the test environment?

  • What's currently the best way to extend Excel using C#?

    - by user169867
I have the professional versions of VS2008 & VS2010. I wish to add a couple buttons to a toolbar in Excel. When they are clicked I'd like to be able to open a form (either WinForms or WPF is fine) collect a few values from the user in the form and then take that data + read cell values from the current worksheet to perform some database operations. What's currently the best way to do this using C#? I'd greatly appreciate a pointer to any examples / tutorials. My understanding is that VS2010 has improved the process alot but I may have to deal w/ Excel 2003 which I don't think it supports. I get confused between Visual Studio 2008s Extensibility-Shared Addin template and other Office Addin templates I've seen. I'm not sure when which type of solution is appropriate. I'm new to Office development so I'd really appreciate any help to get me going on the right track. Thanks much.

  • Django sys.path.append for project *and* app needed under WSGI

    - by GerardJP
Hi all, Could somebody give me a pointer on why I need to add my project root path to the python path as well as the application itself in my WSGI file? Project base is called 'djapp', the application is called 'myapp'. sys.path.append(os.path.dirname(os.path.abspath(__file__)) + '/..') sys.path.append(os.path.dirname(os.path.abspath(__file__)) + '/../djapp') os.environ['DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE'] = 'djapp.settings' If I omit the line with "/../djapp/" the log tells my that 'myapp' can not be imported, even though 'djapp.settings' is. (validating 'djapp' was imported) It al runs properly with the ./manage.py command. there's a __init__ in the project folder. For testings sake, I see the same issue using addsitedir: site.addsitedir('/home/user/web/project/') site.addsitedir('/home/user/web/project/djapp') Thanx a lot. Gerard.

  • Seeking tutorial: introduction to ODBC with Delphi

    - by mawg
I have a lot of embedded C/C++/Ada experience and an outdated smattering of Delphi plus some database stuff. Now I have to implement an app in Delphi which can manipulate MySql, Oracle, maybe MS Access. In short, I need ODBC. I need to programmatically created a database, define its structure and populate its contents, then later query its existence and programmatically search. I would prefer not to use 3rd party components, unless there is a compelling reason to do so (performance ought not to be an issue for the app, it won't have much data or be run often, at least not in v1.0) . Can anyone point me at a tutorial which can get me up to speed? Thanks

  • Making a video with opencv and ffmpeg. How to find the right color format?

    - by luc
I have a webcam video recorder program built with python, opencv and ffmpeg It works ok except that the color of the video is more blue than the reality. The problem seems to come from color format of images. It seems that OpenCv is giving BGR images and ffmpeg+libx264 is expecting YUV420p. I've read that YUV420p correspond to YCbCr. opencv has no conversion from BGR to YCbCr. It only has a conversion to YCrCb. I have made some searchs and tried different alternatives to try converting opencv image to something that could be ok for ffmpeg+libx264. None is working. At this point, I am a bit lost and I would appreciate any pointer that could help me to fix this color issue.

  • Potential problems porting to different architectures

    - by Brendan Long
I'm writing a Linux program that currently compiles and works fine on x86 and x86_64, and now I'm wondering if there's anything special I'll need to do to make it work on other architectures. What I've heard is that for cross platform code I should: Don't assume anything about the size of a pointer, int or size_t Don't make assumptions about byte order (I don't do any bit shifting -- I assume gcc will optimize my power of two multiplication/division for me) Don't use assembly blocks (obvious) Make sure your libraries work (I'm using SQLite, libcurl and Boost, which all seem pretty cross-platform) Is there anything else I need to worry about? I'm not currently targeting any other architectures, but I expect to support ARM at some point, and I figure I might as well make it work on any architecture if I can. Also, regarding my second point about byte order, do I need to do anything special with text input? I read files with getline(), so it seems like that should be done automatically as well.

  • Have you switched from CodeIgniter to Kohana?

    - by Eli
Hi All, I usually just work with straight PHP, but want to try MVC and see if a framework will really speed up development. After much waffling, analysis paralysis, and many dumb SO questions, I thought I had settled on CodeIgniter for my next PHP project. However, I am now seriously considering Kohana. Has anyone made the switch from CI to Kohana? If so, why? What's better about the actual code, libraries, etc? Edit: Hi All, I did end up going with Kohana. It's easy to use, but more importantly, it's easy NOT to use, since there are a lot of things I like to work with native PHP for. It's ridiculously extensible, well coded, and seems like it is beginning to pull out ahead of CI in a few things like putting views in views, passing subview data, etc. I am sure CI will catch up, but Kohana should be 3 steps ahead by then =o)

  • Super Noob C++ variable help

    Ok, I must preface this by stating that I know so so little about c++ and am hoping someone can just help me out... I have the below code: string GoogleMapControl::CreatePolyLine(RideItem *ride) { std::vector<RideFilePoint> intervalPoints; ostringstream oss; int cp; int intervalTime = 30; // 30 seconds int zone =ride->zoneRange(); if(zone >= 0) { cp = 300; // default cp to 300 watts } else { cp = ride->zones->getCP(zone); } foreach(RideFilePoint* rfp, ride->ride()->dataPoints()) { intervalPoints.push_back(*rfp); if((intervalPoints.back().secs - intervalPoints.front().secs) > intervalTime) { // find the avg power and color code it and create a polyline... AvgPower avgPower = for_each(intervalPoints.begin(), intervalPoints.end(), AvgPower()); // find the color QColor color = GetColor(cp,avgPower); // create the polyline CreateSubPolyLine(intervalPoints,oss,color); intervalPoints.clear(); intervalPoints.push_back(*rfp); } } return oss.str(); } void GoogleMapControl::CreateSubPolyLine(const std::vector<RideFilePoint> &points, std::ostringstream &oss, QColor color) { oss.precision(6); QString colorstr = color.name(); oss.setf(ios::fixed,ios::floatfield); oss << "var polyline = new GPolyline(["; BOOST_FOREACH(RideFilePoint rfp, points) { if (ceil(rfp.lat) != 180 && ceil(rfp.lon) != 180) { oss << "new GLatLng(" << rfp.lat << "," << rfp.lon << ")," << endl; } } oss << "],\"" << colorstr.toStdString() << "\",4);"; oss << "GEvent.addListener(polyline, 'mouseover', function() {" << endl << "var tooltip_text = 'Avg watts:" << avgPower <<" <br> Avg Speed: <br> Color: "<< colorstr.toStdString() <<"';" << endl << "var ss={'weight':8};" << endl << "this.setStrokeStyle(ss);" << endl << "this.overlay = new MapTooltip(this,tooltip_text);" << endl << "map.addOverlay(this.overlay);" << endl << "});" << endl << "GEvent.addListener(polyline, 'mouseout', function() {" << endl << "map.removeOverlay(this.overlay);" << endl << "var ss={'weight':5};" << endl << "this.setStrokeStyle(ss);" << endl << "});" << endl; oss << "map.addOverlay (polyline);" << endl; } And I'm trying to get the avgPower from this part: AvgPower avgPower = for_each(intervalPoints.begin(), intervalPoints.end(), AvgPower()); the first part to cary over to the second part: << "var tooltip_text = 'Avg watts:" << avgPower <<" <br> Avg Speed: <br> Color: "<< colorstr.toStdString() <<"';" << endl But of course I haven't the slightest clue how to do it... anyone feeling generous today?
