What is the advantage of WSDualHttpBinding in WCF?

How much benefit would there be to using WSDualHttpBinding with IIS hosted service vs. a client poll that calls the WCF service, assuming in the latter the service cached the data in question? This scenerio would be for a notify type of service where the clients need to be notified by the service when an event occurs. Specifically, what advantages would WSDualHttpBinding provide over polling? ie: Less network traffic, faster to design, easier to maintain, more control ??? From what i understand, WSDualHttpBinding is less scalable than client polling, so why use it at all? Edit: As Matt supplied, time critical can be one reason for the duplex binding. Here is what i have so far: WSDualHttpBinding adv: can get immediate response w/o waiting on polling timer dis: less scalable than WsHttpBinding dis: less firewall friendly I'll add to this based on comments, please let me know if i state anything incorrectly. thanks for you input :-)

iPhone how to enable or disable UITabBar

I have a simple app with a tab bar which based upon user input disables one or more of the bar items. I understand I need to use a UITabBarDelegate which I have tried to use. However when I call the delegate method I get an uncaught exception error [NSObject doesNotRecognizeSelector]. I am not sure I am doing this all right or that I haven't missed something. Any suggestions. C# Winforms - SQL Server 2005 stored procedure - parameters from TextBox

I'm trying to call a parameterized stored procedure from SQL Server 2005 in my C# Winforms app. I add the parameters like so (there are 88 of them): cmd.Parameters.Add("@CustomerName", SqlDbType.VarChar, 100).Value = CustomerName.Text; I get the following exception: "System.InvalidCastException: Failed to convert parameter value from a TextBox to a String. ---> System.InvalidCastException: Object must implement IConvertible." The line throwing the error is when I call the query: cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); I also tried using the .ToString() method on the TextBoxes, which seemed pointless anyway, and threw the same error. Am I passing the parameters incorrectly? Thanks for the help.

What I'd like to do is to have a header for that column also with a combobox: altering the header with propagate throughout the column. i would like to ask you which automated build environment you consider better, based on practical experience. i'm planning to do some .Net and some Java development, so i would like to have a tool that supports both these platforms. i've been reading around and found out about CruiseControl.NET, used on stackoverflow development, and TeamCity with its support for build agents on different OS-platforms and based on different programming languages. so, if you have some practical experience on both of those, which one you prefer and why. currently, i'm mostly interested in the ease of use and management of the tool, much less in the fact that CC is open source, and TC is a subject to licensing at some point when you have much projects to run (because, i need it for a small amount of projects). also, if there is some other tool that meets the above-mentioned and you believe it's worth a recommendation - feel free to include it in the discussion.

Hi, i am designing a Chinese auction website. Tickets ($5, $10 & $20) are sold either individually, or via packages to receive discounts. There are various Ticket packages for example: 5-$5 tickets = receive 10% off 5-$10 tickets = receive 10% off 5-$20 tickets = receive 10% off 5-$5 tickets + 5-$10 tickets + 5-$20 tickets = receive 15% off When users add tickets to their cart, i need to figure out the cheapest package(s) to give them. the trick is that if a user adds 4-$5 tickets + 5-$10 tickets + 5-$20 tickets, it should still give him package #3 since that would be the cheapest for him. Any help in figuring out a algorithm to solve this, or any tips would be greatly appreciate it. thanks

How to bulk insert a CSV file into SQLite C#

I have seen similar questions (1, 2), but none of them discuss how to insert CSV files into SQLite. About the only thing I could think of doing is to use a CSVDataAdapter and fill the SQLiteDataSet, then use the SQLiteDataSet to update the tables in the database: The only DataAdapter for CSV files I found is not actually available: CSVDataAdapter CSVda = new CSVDataAdapter(@"c:\MyFile.csv"); CSVda.HasHeaderRow = true; DataSet ds = new DataSet(); // <-- Use an SQLiteDataSet instead CSVda.Fill(ds); To write to a CSV file: CSVDataAdapter CSVda = new CSVDataAdapter(@"c:\MyFile.csv"); bool InclHeader = true; CSVda.Update(MyDataSet,"MyTable",InclHeader); I found the above code @ http://devintelligence.com/2005/02/dataadapter-for-csv-files/ The CSVDataAdapter was supposed to come with OpenNetCF's SDF, but it doesn't seem to be available anymore. Does anybody know where I can get a CSVDataAdapter? Perhaps somebody knows the much simpler thing: how to do bulk inserts of CSV files into SQLite... your help would be greatly appreciated!

Xdebug configuration with PHP fastcgi and eclipse?

I have been using eclipse-pdt in conjunction with xdebug and apache without problems, for over one year. Things worked flawlessly and I could do all the interactive debugging I wanted from within eclipse (using my own machine as a server). Now I switched from apache to nginx (and therefore PHP runs now not as an Apache service but as fast-cgi) and I can't find a way to configure eclipse to work nicely with xdebug. I am neither sure if the problem is with xdebug or with eclipse (or both) to be sure. In the eclipse configuration I already changed the reference to the PHP configuration file to /etc/php5/cli/php.ini. Attempts with php.ini version 1 With the following php.ini file zend_extension=/usr/lib/php5/20060613/xdebug.so I see that xdebug is working (for example if I do a var_dump() I get the xdebug version of it, not the plain PHP one) I can't have the interactive debugging from eclipse: the browser opens up and loads the page completely with the typical URL containing ...?XDEBUG_SESSION_START=ECLIPSE_DBGP&KEY=..., but the program execution does not stop at breakpoints In the bottom-right corner of eclipse I see a suspicious message: *"Launching =put_the_name_of_my_project_here=: 57%"* that alternates with the "refreshing workspace" one. Attempts with php.ini version 2 If I use this other version of the file (which is what it worked until I switched to nginx): zend_extension=/usr/lib/php5/20060613/xdebug.so xdebug.remote_enable=On xdebug.remote_autostart=On xdebug.remote_handler=dbgp xdebug.remote_host=localhost xdebug.remote_port=9000 xdebug.remote_mode=req I can't access any page of my sites at all. How to implement EntityDataSource Where IN entity sql clause

I want to pass a number of values into a parameter of the EntityDataSource, e.g.: Where="it.ORDER_ID IN {@OrderIdList}" (this is a property on the EntityDataSource) <WhereParameters> <asp:ControlParameter Name="OrderIdList" Type="Int16" ControlID="OrderFilterControl" PropertyName="OrderIdList" /> </WhereParameters> This doesn't work as ORDER_ID is of type int32 and I need to pass in multiple values, e.g. {1,2,3} etc The next thing I tried was setting the Where clause in code-behind and this all works except I can't get data binding on DropDownLists to work. By this I mean no value is returned from the bound dropdownlists in the EntityDataSource Updating Event. My ideal solution would be to use a WhereParameter on the EntityDataSource but any help is appreciated. Thanks, Tony. Jqgrid: navigation based on the selected row

Hello, I was trying to enable navigation based on a selected row. I'm trying to read it and set to the button. Whn debug through firebug, the rowid was 223 (there were only 12 rows in the grid), and the cell value is empty. Currently the button is kept outside the grid, but it may better to be it part of the vavGrid thanks.

MVC Dropdown List isn't binding to the model.

Hi, I am trying set up a simple dropdown list but I dont seem to be able to get it to bind to the Model. I am using Asp.Net MVC and nhibernate. My dropdown list is declared like so: <%= Html.DropDownListFor(model => model.Project, (IEnumerable<SelectListItem>)ViewData["Projects"], " -- Select -- ", new { name = "Project" })%> I set up the select list like so: ViewData["Projects"] = new SelectList(projectRepository.GetAll(), "EntityGUID", "Name", editEntity.Project); This seems to bind the select list to the Dropdown fine, but the SelectedValue is not set. it shows up as the default --- Select --- Also when I save this data, the dropdown does not bind to the model, I have to manually set the object like so to save it: entity.Project = projectRepository.GetById(new Guid(Request["Project"].ToString())); I believe I have take the correct messures to have this item bind directly to my model. How to Edit data in nested Listview

I am using listview to display a list of items and a nested listview to show list of features to each item. Both parent and child listview need to able Insert,Edit and delete operation. It works fine for parent listview. But when I try to edit an child item, The edit button does not take it into Edit mode. QGraphicsView scrolling and image scaling/cropping

I would like to have a background image in my QGraphicsView that is always scaled (and cropped if necessary) to the size of the viewport, without scrollbars and without scrolling with the keyboard and mouse. The example below is what I am doing to scale and crop an image in the viewport, but I am using random values for the cropping that are pulled out of the aether. I would like a logical solution? VS 2010 beta 2 Web ReportViewer Bug?

The report viewer doesn't seem to work in asp.net projects in VS 2010. You get the following error: Microsoft Jscript runtime error: ‘Microsoft’ is undefined. Does GoDaddy supports RESTful services via WCF

After deploying a WCF RESTful service that i created using the REST started kit, i got several errors that i managed to solve following this post: http://www.edoverip.com/edoverip/index.php/2009/01/30/running-wcf-on-godaddy Now i'm stuck with this error: IIS specified authentication schemes 'Basic, Anonymous', but the binding only supports specification of exactly one authentication scheme. Valid authentication schemes are Digest, Negotiate, NTLM, Basic, or Anonymous. Change the IIS settings so that only a single authentication scheme is used I saw that others got to this point without a solution. GoDaddy support dont know nothing. Is it possible at all? Are there any web hosting services that you know that support that?

Microsoft.Web.Administration.ServerManager can't read config sections containing encrypted passwords

I have some sites in IIS7 that are configured to run as domain users (MYDOMAIN\someuser). I'm using the Microsoft.Web.Administration namespace to scan my server configuration, but it's throwing an exception when I hit one of these "impersonator" sites: using (ServerManager sm = new ServerManager()) { foreach (Site site in sm.Sites) { foreach (Application app in site.Applications.Reverse()) { foreach (VirtualDirectory vdir in app.VirtualDirectories.Reverse()) { var config = app.GetWebConfiguration(); foreach (var locationPath in config.GetLocationPaths()) { // error occurs in GetLocationPaths() } } } } } The actual error message is: COMException was unhandled Filename: \\?\C:\Windows\system32\inetsrv\config\applicationHost.config Line number: 279 Error: Failed to decrypt attribute 'password' because the keyset does not exist It appears that IIS is storing the MYDOMAIN\someuser password encrypted in applicationHost.config, which is great in terms of security - but I have no idea how to get the ServerManager to decrypt this. Any tips on how I can either allow ServerManager to decrypt this, or just tell IIS to store the passwords in plain text? This is on IIS7 under Windows 7 RC, by the way.
