• Nagios suddenly stops working

  I have configure passive checks on one my host system for this i am using nsca. it was running fine. suddenly host is showing down on the monitoring. but host was fine and running when i check the logs on the host showing [1347941895] Warning: Attempting to execute the command "/submit_check_result host.example.com 'Current Load' OK 'OK - load average: 0.69, 0.53, 0.42'" resulted in a return code of 127. Make sure the script or binary you are trying to execute actually exists... i restarted nagios services many times but still it is showing the same error. can anyone help me regarding this. thanks in advance..

• EL 3.0 Public Review - JSR 341 and Java EE 7 Moving Along

  Following closely on the lines of EL 3.0 Early Draft, the specification is now available for a Public Review. The JCP2 Process Document defines different stages of the specifications. This review period closes Jul 30, 2012. Some of the main goals of the JSR are to separate ELContext into parsing and evaluation contexts, adding operators like equality, string concatenation, etc, and integration with CDI. The section A.7 of the specification highlights the difference between Early Draft and Public Review. Download the Public Review and and follow the updates at el-spec.java.net.   By default, windows search only search by File name. To configure windows search to search by contents you need configure the following: You need to make sure Windows Search Services feature is activated.(Check this article for details) Then, configure Windows Search by Open file explorer: Press Alt button –> go to tools –> Folder options –> search tab –> Here select, “Always search file names and content(this might take several minutes)” Press okay.   It's the time of year when a lot of NetBeans Platform tutorials are being reviewed, revised, and rewritten. Today I'm looking at the NetBeans Platform Paint Application Tutorial. Suddenly I remembered seeing something in a recent API Changes document about a new class, ColorComboBox. That means I can make the tutorial a lot simpler, since Tim Boudreau's external ColorChooser.jar is now superfluous. Here's what the ColorComboBox looks like: It works perfectly. Of course, the nice thing about using that JAR was that it showed the user how to incorporate external JARs, but I'll make sure to make a note of that in the tutorial, along the lines of "If you don't like the NetBeans Platform color combobox, and would like to replace it with your own, such as Tim's ColorChooser.jar or a JavaFX color chooser, take the following steps." • What Keeps You from Changing Your Public IP Address and Wreaking Havoc on the Internet?

  What exactly is preventing you (or anyone else) from changing their IP address and causing all sorts of headaches for ISPs and other Internet users? Today’s Question & Answer session comes to us courtesy of SuperUser—a subdivision of Stack Exchange, a community-driven grouping of Q&A web sites. The Question SuperUser reader Whitemage is curious about what’s preventing him from wantonly changing his IP address and causing trouble: An interesting question was asked of me and I did not know what to answer. So I’ll ask here. Let’s say I subscribed to an ISP and I’m using cable internet access. The ISP gives me a public IP address of 60.61.62.63. What keeps me from changing this IP address to, let’s say, 60.61.62.75, and messing with another consumer’s internet access? For the sake of this argument, let’s say that this other IP address is also owned by the same ISP. Also, let’s assume that it’s possible for me to go into the cable modem settings and manually change the IP address. Under a business contract where you are allocated static addresses, you are also assigned a default gateway, a network address and a broadcast address. So that’s 3 addresses the ISP “loses” to you. That seems very wasteful for dynamically assigned IP addresses, which the majority of customers are. Could they simply be using static arps? ACLs? Other simple mechanisms? Two things to investigate here, why can’t we just go around changing our addresses, and is the assignment process as wasteful as it seems? The Answer SuperUser contributor Moses offers some insight: Cable modems aren’t like your home router (ie. they don’t have a web interface with simple point-and-click buttons that any kid can “hack” into). Cable modems are “looked up” and located by their MAC address by the ISP, and are typically accessed by technicians using proprietary software that only they have access to, that only runs on their servers, and therefore can’t really be stolen. Cable modems also authenticate and cross-check settings with the ISPs servers. The server has to tell the modem whether it’s settings (and location on the cable network) are valid, and simply sets it to what the ISP has it set it for (bandwidth, DHCP allocations, etc). For instance, when you tell your ISP “I would like a static IP, please.”, they allocate one to the modem through their servers, and the modem allows you to use that IP. Same with bandwidth changes, for instance. To do what you are suggesting, you would likely have to break into the servers at the ISP and change what it has set up for your modem. Could they simply be using static arps? ACLs? Other simple mechanisms? Every ISP is different, both in practice and how close they are with the larger network that is providing service to them. Depending on those factors, they could be using a combination of ACL and static ARP. It also depends on the technology in the cable network itself. The ISP I worked for used some form of ACL, but that knowledge was a little beyond my paygrade. I only got to work with the technician’s interface and do routine maintenance and service changes. What keeps me from changing this IP address to, let’s say, 60.61.62.75 and mess with another consumer’s internet access? Given the above, what keeps you from changing your IP to one that your ISP hasn’t specifically given to you is a server that is instructing your modem what it can and can’t do. Even if you somehow broke into the modem, if 60.61.62.75 is already allocated to another customer, then the server will simply tell your modem that it can’t have it. David Schwartz offers some additional insight with a link to a white paper for the really curious: Most modern ISPs (last 13 years or so) will not accept traffic from a customer connection with a source IP address they would not route to that customer were it the destination IP address. [0x7f815c0009b8] main input error: open of `vcd://' failed [0x7f815c0009b8] main input error: Your input can't be opened [0x7f815c0009b8] main input error: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'vcd://'. Check the log for details. Any way to resolve this ?

• Virtual Host under MacOSX not working

  I have setup a virtualhost for MacOSX Apache instalation. This are my steps: edit /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf removing comment from: Include /private/etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf edit /private/etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf, added: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName test.local DocumentRoot "/Users/myusername/Sites/Test/public" <Directory "/Users/myusername/Sites/Test/public"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks Includes AllowOverride All Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> edit /private/etc/hosts added 127.0.0.7 test.local Restart Apache But the VirtualHost does not work. To further isolate the problem I check the same configuration with MAMP and the virtual host worked rigth, so the configuration files should be fine. What can be wrong?

• Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 Beta Released!

VS2010 SP1 Beta ships with a go live license which means you can start using it for production work though I’m not sure I’m going to be that brave until I check it out a bit first. Jason Zanders has a blog post outlining the new features/fixes included in the beta. Here are a couple BREAKING news items you’ll want to TakeNote of… VS2010 SP1 Beta BREAKS ASP.NET MVC 3 RC Razor IntelliSense. • Always disable the 8.3 name creation on Windows before installing WebCenter Content or WebLogic Server

  You should always disable the 8.3 name creation feature when installing WebCenter Content on a Windows platform. The installs will normally work without it disabled, but you will find the weird 8.3 file and directory names in all the config files. Disabling it can also improve performance. On Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 and above you can do it with this command: fsutil.exe behavior set disable8dot3 1 To make sure it is disabled you can run this command to check: fsutil.exe behavior query disable8dot3 If the 8.3 file name creation is disabled you will see the following output from the command: The registry state of NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation is 1 (Disable 8dot3 name creation on all volumes).   I'm trying to add windows 7 for my new 12.10 grub bootloader. None of the things worked out; such as .. copying bootx64.efi methods, I'm getting this output: grub-probe --target=fs_uuid /boot/efi/EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi grub-probe: error: cannot find a GRUB drive for /dev/sda1. Check your device.map. ....... my device map ....... (hd0) /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD6400BPVT-55HXZT3_WD-WXD1EA1MSVR4 ....... 40_custom ..... menuentry "Microsoft Windows x86_64 UEFI-GPT" { insmod part_gpt insmod fat insmod search_fs_uuid insmod chain search --fs-uuid --no-floppy --set=root 80BD-E086 chainloader (${root})/efi/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi } When booting to windows 7 give me blank black screen with a cursor blinks for 2 seconds then reboot, I've tried boot-repair too. • Copy diagram with swimlanes in Enterprise Architect

  This is a post mostly to myself, so that when I forget this I can come here and check it out :) (I forget about ctrl-b from time to time) When copying diagrams from Enterprise Architect you can use ctrl-B to include the swim-lanes. A normal ctrl-c will not give you the swim-lanes. A side effect is that ctrl—b gives you a copy of the whole diagram, you cannot select what objects to copy. So marking objects first or pressing ctrl-A to selects all is both unnecessary and meaningless since ctrl-b seems to mean: “copy the whole diagram now and include all the stuff in there, even the swimlanes” (which ctrl-A, ctrl-C does not).

Edit: to clarify: I am going to implement forementioned algorithms for studying purposes and need inputs including large ones and correct outputs to better find mistakes in my implementations, since test cases that I can come up with on my own with might not be enough to reveal mistakes.

• Drupal accounts with dead addresses: how to de-activate?

  Hi, on my drupal website, there are a lot of users with an invalid email address. I know because, either they have never logged in or their mails bounce. But I have to check manually, which is not good. When a user signs up with an email address, they receive a confirmation email. Is there a way to automatically disable an account if the user does not log in within the first day after receiving this confirmation mail? Alternatively, it would be OK to keep the accounts disabled until the user clicks a link on the confirmation mail. Are there plugins or settings in Drupal to do this?

• Calendar like tool for managing multiple clients simultaneously?

  I've tried several systems to keep my clients requests / work organized, but somehow they still fall through the cracks. I don't like the idea of a bug tracker-like site for every client (I would not check them all). Ideally, it's all in one page but separated by client. What systems do you guys use? I'm about to just use a spreadsheet with columns for clients. Just curious if there's something better out there :) I've seen smartsheet in action which is basically a really nice spreadsheet that shows bars of time between things that are due. This looks promising.

• NVIDIA 560 TI driver install ubuntu 14.04 leads to "missing on display" error

  Currently on my Ubuntu 14.04 install, I boot it up install the latest updates and attempt to install the NVIDIA drivers from xorg-edgers while following the top answer on this post Installing Nvidia Drivers It installs 304 for my card and when I check the "glxinfo | grep OpenGL" I have about 8 lines that read Xlib: extension "NV-GLX" missing on display ":0". I did the "sudo apt-get install nvidia-current" to get the latest. I install it but didn't see any errors in the terminal. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. I'm not a complete beginner with Linux so I can find my way around just fine but I can't find a solution to this issue. Should I have done one of these two instead? sudo apt-get install nvidia-304 sudo apt-get install nvidia-graphics-drivers-304

  I've just had quite a good phone interview (for a CakePHP-related position, not that it's especially important to the question). The interviewer seemed to be impressed with my resume and personality. At the end, though, he asked me to email him a code sample from my existing work project, "to check you're not secretly a terrible programmer, ha ha!" I'm not too worried that my code can't stand on its own two feet, but I'm very much an intermediate programmer rather than an expert. What obvious pitfalls should I make sure my code sample doesn't fall into, in case they rule me out on the spot? Secondly, and this is probably the harder part of the question to answer, what features in a code sample would be so impressive that they would instantly make you much more favourably inclined towards the programmer? All ideas or suggestions welcomed!
