• Obtaining MFC Feature Pack GUI elements in .NET WinForms

  The MFC Feature Pack (and VS 2010) adds out-of-the-box support for several "modern" GUI elements (such as MDI with tabbed documents, the ribbon, and a Visual Studio-style interface with docking panels). These are a boon to those of us that have to support legacy MFC-based applications and want to update their look-and-feel, and a sign that Microsoft has not completely abandoned unmanaged C++ development. However, with the push so strongly in favor of .NET, WinForms, and managed code (and for plenty of good reasons), there seems little reason to develop new applications in unmanaged C++/MFC. The question then becomes how does one obtain these GUI elements in a WinForms application. Almost all of the add-ons and libraries I have found so far cost money, and introduce additional dependencies. I don't have a budget to buy third-party libraries, and the controls provided by Microsoft in MFC for free seem sufficient for our needs. But I still have reservations about learning MFC to develop a new application. Not only does the investment in time seem significant (by all accounts, MFC seems particularly difficult to learn, even for experienced .NET developers--although I am willing to try), but the question of MFC's lifespan is raised as well. Certainly, given the millions of lines of code and existing apps written in native C++, it will be around for some time, but the handwriting seems to be on the wall, so to speak, that it's no longer Microsoft's touted development platform. It seems like these features should be available by now in WinForms without the need for third-party add-ons, or devoting a lot of time and resources to custom-drawing EVERYTHING. Am I just missing something? I find very little online that compares these new features of MFC to what is available in WinForms, mainly because most everything written on MFC pre-dated its most recent update, before which it looked admitted "dated," and with its other flaws, was hardly an appealing platform for new development. With the very recent release of VS 2010, we have a while to wait before WinForms gets updated again. What routes are you guys taking for applications whose customers demand a modern-looking UI on a budget?

• Refresh UltraGrid's GroupBy Sort on child bands when ListChanged?

  I am using Infragistics 2009 vol 1. My UltraGrid is bound to a BindingList of business objects "A" having themself a BindingList property of business objects "B". It results in having two bands: one named "BindingList`1", the other one "ListOfB" thanks to the currency manager. I would like to refresh the GroupBy sort of the grid whenever a change is performed on the child band through the child business object and INotifyPropertyChange. • jQgrid Pagination with query string

  Hello, I recently started experimenting with jQgrid, and much appreciate for any guidance on the below use case. I need to implement a (advanced)search functionality, and the results are loaded in the jQgrid. When use pagination, how to specify a complex query in the post data? In the serverside (grails) it it represented as an object, which is mocked below class searchCommand { String val1 List<long> ids //from the multiple selection } the above members can be null, if the user doesn't select any. Without saving the state at the server, I guess the only way to make the pagination work is to pass the query object back and forth with the correct offset, index etc. if that is the case, how best to represent it in jQgrid side. I saw a parameter postData to set additional values, but not sure how to represnt the data (JSON??). Any code snippet on (retaining) converting it from the last result to postData would be helpful. thanks in advance.

  Hello I am getting following error while attempting to run the Management Portal for ESB Toolkit 2.0: Event Type: Warning Event Source: ENTSSO Event Category: Enterprise Single Sign-On Event ID: 10536 Description: SSO AUDIT Function: GetConfigInfo (SSOProperties) Application Name: ESB Toolkit.exceptionHandling Error Code: 0xC0002A04, The application does not exist I am using SSO config store for the ESB Config. However, looking in the esb.config file, there is no section, like there is for the other esb SSO applications. Why might this section (and therefore the SSO app) be missing? How can I set it up? • iPhone Curl Left and Curl Right transitions

  I am looking for a way to do a UIViewAnimationTransitionCurlUp or UIViewAnimationTransitionCurlDown transition on the iPhone but instead of top to bottom, do it from the left to right (or top/bottom in landscape mode). I've seen this asked aroud the internet a few times but none sems to get an answer. However I feel this is doable. I have tried changing the View's transform and the view.layer's transform but that didn't affect the transition. Since the transition changes when the device changes orientation I presume there is a way to fool the device to use the landscape transition in portrait mode and vice versa?

• Uninitialized constant Encoding with sqlite3-ruby on windows

  On a new machine, installed ruby with the 1-click installer for windows. Installed rails 2.3.2 and all associated gems, then I installed the sqlite3 binaries (into the c:\ruby\bin folder). Lastly I did gem install sqlite3-ruby -v=1.2.3 (which is apparently the latest version that works with windows) This error happens when I run rake db:migrate or when any ActiveRecord object is touched at runtime. I have a template of the SOAP message from the British Government, and a WSDL file for the service. What I have tried Add a service reference using the WSDL file.   My web app runs on .Net 3.5, all of the dates are saved on the DB in UTC time (not in user time). For some reason the TimeZoneInfo.ConvertTime don't know the Daylight saving time switch is on 26/3/10 so it still converts to GMT +2. The strange thing is that on localhost it works fine, I set up a test page: DateTime userdate = GetUserDateTime(DateTime.UtcNow); string str2 = "UserDateTime = " + userdate.ToString("dd/MM/yy") + " " + userdate.ToString("HH:mm"); On the Server (windows 2003 set to UTC time) it shows the wrong time (+2): UserDateTime = 27/03/10 21:38 On localhost (windows XP set to Israel Time) it shows the correct time (+3): UserDateTime = 27/03/10 22:38 How can I update the TimeZoneInfo that the Daylight saving time switch in Israel was on the 26/3/10?   I'm using MVVM and am trying to databind the Source property of Image to my ViewModel in such a way that I can change the icon on the fly. What is the best pattern to follow for this? I still have the flexibility to change my ViewModel to suit, but I don't know where to start in either the xaml or ViewModel. To be clear, I don't want my ViewModel to know about the specific images (that's for the View to know), just the state that triggers different images. For now I have just two states, lets say Red and Green. Should I create an Enum property or a bool? And then how do I databind to switch the image source?
