  • Login system and sessions (php)

    - by Jonathan
I've created a login page and registration page and now I want to use that to password protect pages and have pages which show information specific to that user. Would storing the user ID of the user logged in in a Session variable be a safe and correct way of doing this? How easy would it be for a user to change the session variable to a different ID and access another user's information, and not having to type the users login details in?

  • Access shell methods in controller? Cake PHP 1.3

    - by anonymous coward
I wrote a shell method in CakePHP 1.3 that has a return value. I'd like to be able to access that method from within a controller, so that I can pass its return value into the View. I'm not sure how to access those methods appropriately from within the controller. Have I done it wrong? I could easily duplicate the code, but I'd like to "keep it DRY", and the actual functionality, I believe, doesn't belong with this particular controller - I just need it's return value in this particular view.

  • PHP/MySQL - an array filter for bots

    - by Mike
Hello, I'm making a hit counter. I have a database and I store the IP and $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']; of the visitors. Now I need to add a filter, so I can put away the hits, that are made by bots. I found out, that many bots usually keep some common words in the $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']; , so I's like to make and array of words, that would keep the bot from displaying in the results. Here is what I have now: while($row = mysql_fetch_array($yesterday, MYSQL_ASSOC)) { <-- Here I need a code, that would run through an array and check, if it containts the keywords and if it doesn't ... just count++; -- } Also if you know any other way of detecting and removing the bots from the results, I'd be verry thankful. Cheers

  • PHP/MySQL Interview - How would you have answered?

    - by martincarlin87
I was asked this interview question so thought I would post it here to see how other users would answer: Please write some code which connects to a MySQL database (any host/user/pass), retrieves the current date & time from the database, compares it to the current date & time on the local server (i.e. where the application is running), and reports on the difference. The reporting aspect should be a simple HTML page, so that in theory this script can be put on a web server, set to point to a particular database server, and it would tell us whether the two servers’ times are in sync (or close to being in sync). This is what I put: // Connect to database server $dbhost = 'localhost'; $dbuser = 'xxx'; $dbpass = 'xxx'; $dbname = 'xxx'; $conn = mysql_connect($dbhost, $dbuser, $dbpass) or die (mysql_error()); // Select database mysql_select_db($dbname) or die(mysql_error()); // Retrieve the current time from the database server $sql = 'SELECT NOW() AS db_server_time'; // Execute the query $result = mysql_query($sql) or die(mysql_error()); // Since query has now completed, get the time of the web server $php_server_time = date("Y-m-d h:m:s"); // Store query results in an array $row = mysql_fetch_array($result); // Retrieve time result from the array $db_server_time = $row['db_server_time']; echo $db_server_time . '<br />'; echo $php_server_time; if ($php_server_time != $db_server_time) { // Server times are not identical echo '<p>Database server and web server are not in sync!</p>'; // Convert the time stamps into seconds since 01/01/1970 $php_seconds = strtotime($php_server_time); $sql_seconds = strtotime($db_server_time); // Subtract smaller number from biggest number to avoid getting a negative result if ($php_seconds > $sql_seconds) { $time_difference = $php_seconds - $sql_seconds; } else { $time_difference = $sql_seconds - $php_seconds; } // convert the time difference in seconds to a formatted string displaying hours, minutes and seconds $nice_time_difference = gmdate("H:i:s", $time_difference); echo '<p>Time difference between the servers is ' . $nice_time_difference; } else { // Timestamps are exactly the same echo '<p>Database server and web server are in sync with each other!</p>'; } Yes, I know that I have used the deprecated mysql_* functions but that aside, how would you have answered, i.e. what changes would you make and why? Are there any factors I have omitted which I should take into consideration? The interesting thing is that my results always seem to be an exact number of minutes apart when executed on my hosting account: 2012-12-06 11:47:07 2012-12-06 11:12:07

  • My cookies won't stay (PHP).

    - by RemiX
I'm building an autologin system using cookies, but one fundamental part of the functionality of the cookies fails: they are non-persistent over different sessions - or even pages! In my login script, I set the cookies like this: setcookie('userID', $userID, time()+86400); // (edited after replies) $userID has a value. Then I print the $_COOKIE variable and it says array(['base_usid'] = 1); So that's good, but when I click the home page and print the $_COOKIE variable there, it says NULL. Does anyone see the problem?

  • Pass variable number of variables to a class in PHP

    - by user325282
I need to pass a variable number of strings to instantiate different classes. I can always do a switch on the size of the array: switch(count($a)) { case 1: new Class(${$a[0]}); break; case 2: new Class(${$a[0]}, ${$a[1]}); break; etc... There has to be a better way to do this. If I have an array of strings ("variable1", "variable2", 'variable3", ...), how can I instantiate a Class without manually accounting for every possibility?

  • Regular Expressions, avoiding HTML tags in PHP

    - by Jason Axelrod
I have actually seen this question quite a bit here, but none of them are exactly what I want... Lets say I have the following phrase: Line 1 - This is a TEST phrase. Line 2 - This is a <img src="TEST" /> image. Line 3 - This is a <a href="somelink/TEST">TEST</a> link. Okay, simple right? I am trying the following code: $linkPin = '#(\b)TEST(\b)(?![^<]*>)#i'; $linkRpl = '$1<a href="newurl">TEST</a>$2'; $html = preg_replace($linkPin, $linkRpl, $html); As you can see, it takes the word TEST, and replaces it with a link to test. The regular expression I am using right now works good to avoid replacing the TEST in line 2, it also avoids replacing the TEST in the href of line 3. However, it still replaces the text encapsulated within the tag on line 3 and I end up with: Line 1 - This is a <a href="newurl">TEST</a> phrase. Line 2 - This is a <img src="TEST" /> image. Line 3 - This is a <a href="somelink/TEST"><a href="newurl">TEST</a></a> link. This I do not want as it creates bad code in line 3. I want to not only ignore matches inside of a tag, but also encapsulated by them. (remember to keep note of the / in line 2)

  • Regular expression matching in php

    - by user1836428
I have this regexp: /(.*)(([0-9]([^a-zA-Z])*){7,}[0-9])(.*)/. Given the following values 0654535263 065453-.-5263 065asd4535263 Expected Results 06**** 06**** 06**** Actual Results 0654535263 06**** 065asd4535263 It does not match the last row because of the letters (I want to match from 0-3 letters) and it matches only last occurence (in the second row in example, it skips first row).

  • PHP Forms checkbox calculation

    - by Sef
    Hello, I am trying to perform some calculations with a form but every time i try to work with checkboxes it goes wrong. The checkboxes are beign set on value 1 in the form itselff and are being checked if there checked or not. $verdieping = isset($_POST["verdieping"]) ? $_POST["verdieping"] : 0; $telefoon = isset($_POST["telefoon"]) ? $_POST["telefoon"] : 0; $netwerk = isset($_POST["netwerk"]) ? $_POST["netwerk"] : 0; When i try to do calculations every works expect for the options with the checkboxes. When both checkboxes (telefoon & netwerk) are selected the value should be 30. If only one is selected the value should be 20. But no mather what i have tried to write down it always give problem, and it always uses 20, never the value 30. How do i solve this problem? Or suppose i am writing the syntax all wrong to lay conditions to a calculation? Any input appreciated. $standnaam = $_SESSION["standnaam"]; $oppervlakte = $_SESSION["oppervlakte"]; $verdieping = $_SESSION["verdieping"]; $telefoon = $_SESSION["telefoon"]; $netwerk = $_SESSION["netwerk"]; if ($oppervlakte <= 10) $tarief = 100; if ($oppervlakte > 10 && $oppervlakte <= 20) $tarief = 90; if ($oppervlakte > 20) $tarief = 80; if($verdieping == 1) { $prijsVerdieping = $oppervlakte * 120; } else { $prijsVerdieping = 0; } if(($telefoon == 1) && ($netwerk == 1)) { $prijsCom = 30; // never get this value, it always uses 20 } if(($telefoon == 1) || ($netwerk == 1)) { $prijsCom = 20; } $prijsOpp = $tarief * $oppervlakte; // works $totalePrijs = $prijsOpp + $prijsVerdieping + $prijsCom; //prijsCom value is always wrong Regards.

  • What pattern is this? php

    - by user151841
I have several classes that are basically interfaces to database rows. Since the class assumes that a row already exists ( __construct expects a field value ), there is a public static function that allows creation of the row and returns an instance of the class. Here's an example ( without the actual database inserts ): class selfStarter { public $type; public function __construct( $type ) { $this->type = $type; } public static function create( $type ) { if ( ! empty($type) ) { $starter = & new selfStarter($type); return $starter; } } } $obj1 = selfStarter::create( "apple" ); $obj2 = & new selfStarter( "banana" ); What is this pattern called?

  • php string search - grabbing specific urls

    - by MEM
Hello, I have this string that may contain some urls that I need to grab. For instance, if the user does: www.youtube ... or www.vimeo ... or http://www.youtube ... or HttP://WwW.viMeo I need to grab it (until he finds a space perhaps). and store it on a already created array. The need is to separate the vimeo links from the youtube ones and place each of those on the appropriate video object. I'm not sure if this is possible, I mean, if the URL coming from the browser could be used to be placed on a predefined video object. If it is, then this is the way to go (so I believe). If all this is feasible, can I have your help in order to build such a rule? Thanks in advance

  • php / phpDoc - @return instance of $this class ?

    - by searbe
How do I mark a method as "returns an instance of the current class" in my phpDoc? In the following example my IDE (Netbeans) will see that setSomething always returns a foo object. But that's not true if I extent the object - it'll return $this, which in the second example is a bar object not a foo object. class foo { protected $_value = null; /** * Set something * * @param string $value the value * @return foo */ public function setSomething($value) { $this->_value = $value; return $this; } } $foo = new foo(); $out = $foo->setSomething(); So fine - setSomething returns a foo - but in the following example, it returns a bar..: class bar extends foo { public function someOtherMethod(){} } $bar = new bar(); $out = $bar->setSomething(); $out->someOtherMethod(); // <-- Here, Netbeans will think $out // is a foo, so doesn't see this other // method in $out's code-completion ... it'd be great to solve this as for me, code completion is a massive speed-boost. Anyone got a clever trick, or even better, a proper way to document this with phpDoc?

  • php array problem ..need expert

    - by user295189
I have tried this in another post but trying my luck again. My current array that I am making produce a different result than I am wanting. I want to have this kind of out put Row: 0: Column: 1: ID 1 Row: 1: Column: 1: ID 1 Row: 0: Column: 2: ID 2 Row: 1: Column: 2: ID 2 Row: 2: Column: 2: ID 2 Row: 3: Column: 2: ID 2 Row: 0: Column: 3: ID 3 Row: 1: Column: 3: ID 3 As you can see the Rows and columns change based on the ID. So if the ID is same it just go to next row in the same column. However if id is changed it goes to next column and rows start. Currently I my code looks like this for($i=0;$i<count($pv->rawData); $i++) { $relative=0; $relativeTypeID = -1; if ($pv->rawData[$i]->relativeTypeID != $relativeTypeID) { $relativeTypeID = $pv->rawData[$i]->relativeTypeID; $iTypeCount++; } if(!empty($pv->rawData[$i]->description)) { $pv->results[$i][$iTypeCount][0] = $pv->rawData[$i]->description; echo "Row: ".$i.": Column: ".$iTypeCount.": ID".$relativeTypeID." <br>"; } } It gives me the following output Row: 0: Column: 1: ID1 Row: 1: Column: 2: ID1 Row: 2: Column: 3: ID2 Row: 3: Column: 4: ID2 Row: 4: Column: 5: ID2 Row: 5: Column: 6: ID2 Row: 6: Column: 7: ID2 Row: 7: Column: 8: ID2 Row: 8: Column: 9: ID2 Row: 9: Column: 10: ID2 Row: 10: Column: 11: ID2 Row: 11: Column: 12: ID2 Row: 12: Column: 13: ID2 …. …. As you can see the Row and Columns are changing but not with ID number. I appreciate your help Thanks

  • Problem with php GD image not creating

    - by ThinkingInBits
    With the following code, my browser is returning 'image not created or saved'. I assure you the location of the image exists. So the line within the if statement is returning false for some reason, and yes GD is installed. Any ideas? if ($img = @imagecreatefromjpeg("/var/www/images/upload/1/1.jpg")) { $image_width = imagesx($img); $image_height = imagesy($img); $target_width = 150; $target_height = 150; if ($image_width > $image_height) { $percentage = ($target_width / $image_width); } else { $percentage = ($target_height / $image_height); } $new_image_width = round($image_width * $percentage); $new_image_height = round($image_height * $percentage); $imgResized = imagecreatetruecolor($new_image_width, $new_image_height); imagecopyresampled($imgResized, $img, 0, 0, 0, 0, $new_image_width, $new_image_height, $image_width, $image_height); imagejpeg($imgResized, $this->path, 100); imagedestroy($img); imagedestroy($imgResized); $this->storeThumbnailLocation(); } else { die ("image was not created or saved"); }
