• "Error 5: Access denied" when installing programs with UAC turned off

  I'm having some trouble installing msysgit 1.7.3.1preview on Windows 7 Home Premium. I downloaded the setup file from the Google Code and then ran it. Upon running, I got the following error: I have tried downloading and running different older versions of msysgit with no luck. For the record, I have administrative privileges and there are no other user accounts on this Windows machine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. UPDATE: I have managed to semi-fix this problem. I turned on User Account Control back to the default setting and and then ran the setup file as an administrator. I successfully managed to install Git. However, this means I have to keep UAC turned on whenever I want to install a new program (I realised that it persists over all programs; not just Git). So it's quite a nuisance. If anybody knows how I could keep UAC disabled whilst still being able to install programs without running their setup files as an administrator, I would be eternally grateful. UPDATE: I have changed the question title to better suit the new situation.

• After installing Windows 7, I can no longer get to Debian 6 (dual boot)

  I had Debian 6 on my machine (Dell Vostro 260) and used GParted to shrink the partition. I then tried installing Windows 7 on that partition. After Windows 7 installed, I could not choose which OS to run. It would just boot into Windows. I ran GParted again, and saw that Windows created another partition, labeled "System Reserved". That partition had the boot flag set. I tried moving the boot flag to other partitions, including my Debian partition and one with a file system "linux-swap". No option would actually load an OS or anything except for the Windows partition, which is not what I want. Is it worth it to try to fix this installation, or should I start over. I have all my data backed up, so I can easily install from scratch if I need to. If I do start from scratch, which OS should I install first? And then, how do I set up the partitions to install the other OS? Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for your help.

If I try install the 12.6 driver, Windows will stick with the "basic display adapter", and this is bad for 3d games like Minecraft, that runs really slow now compared with the previous Windows7 installation. Forcing install the catalyst driver can help to fix it. So, I follow that steps: Extract the Catalist Driver (C:\AMD\Support\12-6-legacy_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_whql) Right click the "basic display adapter" on device manager, and "update driver" Search on PC I will choose the driver "With Disk" "C:\AMD\Support\12-6-legacy_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_whql\Packages\Drivers\Display\W76A_INF" There is a big list of drivers and the nearest driver to HD 2100 is "Radeon HD 2350 Series" My questions: Why isn't "Radeon HD 2100 Series" listed? (or Where is it listed?) In theory it must be listed" The first link above show that "This article applies to the following configuration(s):" (...) "AMD Radeon HD 2000 Series" Am I doing something wrong?

• SCVMM 2012 R2 - Installing Virtual Switch Fails with Error 2916

  So I've been attempting to teach myself SCVMM 2012 and Hyper-V Server 2012 R2, and I seem to have hit a snag. I've connected my Hyper-V Host to SCVMM 2012 successfully, and created a logical network, logical switch, and uplink port profile (which I essentially blew through with the default settings). However when I attempt to create a virtual switch on my Hyper-V host, I run into an issue. The job will use my logical network settings I created to configure the virtual switch, but when it tries to apply it to the host, it stalls and eventually fails with the following error: Error (2916) VMM is unable to complete the request. The connection to the agent vmhost1.test.loc was lost. WinRM: URL: [h**p://vmhost1.test.loc:5985], Verb: [GET], Resource: [h**p://schemas.microsoft.com/wbem/wsman/1/wmi/root/virtualization/v2/Msvm_ConcreteJob?InstanceID=2F401A71-14A2-4636-9B3E-10C0EE942D33] Unknown error (0x80338126) Recommended Action Ensure that the Windows Remote Management (WinRM) service and the VMM agent are installed and running and that a firewall is not blocking HTTP/HTTPS traffic. Ensure that VMM server is able to communicate with econ-hyperv2.econ.loc over WinRM by successfully running the following command: winrm id –r:vmhost1.test.loc This problem can also be caused by a Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) service crash. If the server is running Windows Server 2008 R2, ensure that KB 982293 (h**p://support.microsoft.com/kb/982293) is installed on it. • Installing WindowsAuthentication breaks authentication / web.config?

  I have a clean Windows 2008 R2 box (on a VM) and have installed IIS 7.5 with default options. I then copied a website to it (from Windows 7, IIS 7) and after a little tweaking the website is working fine. The website is currently using and working with Anonymous Authentication. I have gone back to the Windows Components/Sever Manager, Roles - Security and ticked and installed Windows Authentication. When I check my server in IIS (top level above sites) - Authentication, I see Anonymous Authentication (enabled) ASP.NET Impersonation (disabled) Forms Authentication (disbaled) Windows Authentication (enabled) When I check my default website - Authentication, I see as above but "Retrieving status" and an error dialog saying There was an error while performing this operation. Details: Filename c:\inetpub\wwwroot\screwturnwiki\web.config Line number: 96 Error: This configuration section cannot be used in this path. This happens when the section is being locked at the parent level.   I am very new to Cygwin, C, C++ and NetBeans IDE 7.2. My PC is running MICROSOFT WINDOWS 7 OS. I have read the documentation on how to install the Cygwin C C++ compilers. http://netbeans.org/community/releases/72/cpp-setup-instructions.html#compilers I have tried to run Cygwin setup.exe that has the most recent version of the Cygwin DLL is 1.7.16-1. I am not very sure which exact package to install when the Cygwin setup.exe installer prompted for the selection of packages to download and install. I want to install the Cygwin C and C++ compilers so that i can create C and C++ projects using NetBeans 7.2 I selected those packages that has contains the following names gcc, g++, gdb and make. Then i proceed on to install the selected packages The installation took up a long time so i stopped after about 45 minutes or so. I browsed the installation folder and i saw some packages i selected were installed. I noticed that some packages came in some sort of "zip" file with tar.gz extension. i added the folder path into the PATH variable in the windows 7 environment variables window. I think this command works C: cygcheck -c cygwin but the rest doesn't work i think. C: gcc --version C: g++ --version C: make --version C: gdb --version I tried to create the C C++ project using the Netbeans IDE 7.2 and the IDE pops out a dialog message saying that there was no c c++ compilers found. Have i made some mistake here? like installing the wrong packages or something else??? Are there packages shown in the Cygwin setup.exe installer that contains exact names and exact version that is compatible with NetBeans IDE 7.2?? This i am not too sure. Because i i think i didn't really see some required packages with exact names and versions. My question is : Which exact packages do i install using the Cygwin setup.exe installer so that i can create C & C++ projects using Netbeans IDE 7.2? and what other steps do i have to take note to ensure complete successful installation? do i have to wait all the selected required packages to be installed? After I discover channel pear.phpunit.de and try to use one of following commands: pear install phpunit/PHPUnit pear install --alldeps phpunit/PHPUnit pear install --onlyreqdeps phpunit/PHPUnit it fails, giving me following error: No releases available for package "pear.phpunit.de/PHPUnit" install failed I found several threads from people with the same problem, but upgrading PEAR to the newest version usually worked for them. Also there seems to be close to no tutorials for installing PHPUnit for Windows. EDIT: I've also tried to change prefered_state to beta; didn't help. I've also tried to get list of all available packages: pear remote-list -c phpunit It gives me another error: Cannot download non-http URL "/c/categories.xml"

• mysql.sock file missing after installing MySQL on Snow Leopard

  This is a recent problem... MySQL was working and a couple of days ago I must have done something. I deleted MySQL and tried reinstalling using the .dmg file. The mysql.sock file never gets created and I get the following error messages: Hristo$ mysql Enter password: ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) I also tried stopping Apache and installing but Apache gave me an error... I don't know if this is good or bad: Hristo$ sudo apachectl stop launchctl: Error unloading: org.apache.httpd I tried the MacPorts installation as well but the socket file still didn't get created.   I have Eclipse Galileo (for Java EE Developers) installed, and I'm now trying to get the m2eclipse Maven plugin installed as well. I follow the basic steps described at http://m2eclipse.sonatype.org/installing-m2eclipse.html, and it seems to be installing just fine. However, after restarting Eclipse after the install it doesn't seem to be anywhere. I should for instance have the ability to create a new maven project, but when the new-project wizard opens, there is no folder for Maven (I also cannot find any reference to it in the context menus of the existing projects I have). When I click at Help About Eclipse Installation Details, I find "Maven Integration for Eclipse (Required)" in the tab "Installed Software", yet another thing pointing towards a successful installation (but I can't find it under the "Plug-ins" tab, should it be there too?)... I feel like I'm just missing something very obvious, but right now I just don't see it...

The article does mention that you might be wanting to use an external database in regard to making sure the database cumulative update is installed. It doesn't make any other mention of configuring it to use a external database. I was hoping that the configuration wizard would then prompt about which database to use but annoyingly it just set-up the configuration database locally. How do I go about installing SharePoint on a dev environment with an external database, and will I need to reformat this machine and do it all again?

• Installing multiple php versions plus extensions on freebsd

  I'm a currently learning how to work with freebsd. Lately I have been trying to run multiple php versions along with their respective packages. However, I seem to be running into issues while making installations. The default location for my php installation is /usr/local/etc/, however I want to be able to install php5.2, php5.3 and php5.4 in /usr/local/etc/php52, /usr/local/etc/php53 and /usr/local/etc/php54 respectively. Using ports I simply achieved this by doing cd /usr/ports/lang/php5x && make PREFIX="/usr/local/etc/php5x" install clean. The problem now is: How do I do the same for extensions of all my PHP versions? When I try installing php-extensions like so: cd /usr/ports/lang/php5x-extension && make PREFIX="/usr/local/etc/php5x/lib/php" install clean, I get this error ... ===> PHPizing for php53-bcmath-5.3.17 env: /usr/local/bin/phpize: No such file or directory *** Error code 127 Stop in /usr/ports/math/php53-bcmath. *** Error code 1 Stop in /usr/ports/lang/php53-extensions. My PHPize is located in /usr/local/etc/php5x/bin/phpize So how do I get make or whatever to look for phpize in the right path? I couldn't get Rails working at all just now: Could not find gem 'rails' headaches But after some tries of reinstalling it, it suddenly worked again. But now I just can't get MySQL to work, and it sometimes even breaks the Rails installation again. This is what I do: sudo gem uninstall rails sudo gem uninstall mysql sudo gem uninstall mysql2 After these commands, I check the installed gems with gem list. No MySQL gem is listed anymore, but I can still see rails (2.3.5, 2.2.2, 1.2.6) . Is this normal? Does this mean I have 3 Rails installations? It doesn't make sense to me. Anyway, then I do this: sudo gem clean Which fails completely. I have found a lot of documentation about installing raid when installing and setting up ubuntu server for the first time. However, I am struggling to find anything on installing a raid 5 array on a system already installed an configured. Can this be done, or does a clean install need to be done again?

  I need to install Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player to check an URL for testing purpose. Could someone post me the exact steps to acheive this task? Note: I have already tried installing IE in Ubuntu 10.10 and later versions (12.04) with Wine. It works fine. But I don't get success installing Windows Media Player. Hope someone will solve my problem. It will be great if someone gives me a neat solution for installing IE and WMP in Ubuntu (10.10 or later).
