• Sophos Enterprise Console 4.5, Mac Client 7 Not Auto-Populating SEC Info

  I have Sophos Endpoint Security and Control, which includes Sophos Enterprise Console (SEC). I'm currently running version 4.5 of SEC, which is an older version. I subscribe to Mac updates, and SEC generates a binary Mac installer for me to use on Mac endpoints (Version 7 for Mac, also an older version). However, when I run the installer on Mac endpoints, it installs fine but then never auto-fills out the location of the update server, which is on a network share, and the account credentials used to access it, which I do not know and were generated by Sophos automatically. Previously, I had been able to use the SEC-generated installer to install and run Sophos on a Mac seamlessly; the update location information and account credentials were automatically filled during login, I ran the installer and it was perfectly set up. Now, however, Sophos installs on a Mac but never updates because it doesn't have the update location OR credentials. Has anyone else run across this problem or know why it is happening? • Filtering log4net on method name - can't quite get it

  I'm using log4net to log my web app's progress, using Log4PostSharp to AOP-injectify all methods. This has the desired effect of logging (almost) everything and is fine. I now have a requirement to log JUST Page_Load methods to a file / console. I can obviously hamstring the log4postsharp class to do that, but then I'd be losing all the other logging. I've been looking at filters in log4net, starting with the StringMatch filter, but that only looks at the message being logged, and I'm after the method name. This put me onto the PropertyFilter, but still with no joy. My log4net.config snippet is thus: <appender name="RollingLogFileAppender" type="log4net.Appender.RollingFileAppender"> <filter type="log4net.Filter.PropertyFilter"> <key value="LocationInfo.MethodName"/> <stringToMatch value="Page_Load"/> </filter> <file value="d:\\xxxx\\yyyyy\\zzzzLog"/> As you can see, I'm trying to key into the MethodName of the logging event via LocationInfo, but I'm still getting everything logged. • Strange rare out-of-order data received using Indy

  We're having a bizarre problem with Indy10 where two large strings (a few hundred characters each) that we send out one after the other are appearing at the other end intertwined oddly. This happens extremely infrequently. Each string is a complete XML message terminated with a LF and in general the READ process reads an entire XML message, returning when it sees the LF. The call to actually send the message is protected by a critical section around the call to the IOHandler's writeln method and so it is not possible for two threads to send at the same time. (We're certain the critical section is implemented/working properly). This problem happens very rarely. The symptoms are odd...when we send string A followed by string B what we received at the other end (on the rare occasions where we have failure) is the trailing section of string A by itself (i.e., there's a LF at the end of it) followed by the leading section of string A and then the entire string B followed by a single LF. We've verified that the "timed out" property is not true after the partial read - we log that property after every read that returns content. Also, we know there are no embedded LF characters in the string, as we explicitly replace all non-alphanumeric characters in the string with spaces before appending the LF and sending it. We have log mechanisms inside the critical sections on both the transmission and receiving ends and so we can see this behavior at the "wire". We're completely baffled and wondering (although always the lowest possibility) whether there could be some low-level Indy issues that might cause this issue, e.g., buffers being sent in the wrong order....very hard to believe this could be the issue but we're grasping at straws. Does anyone have any bright ideas?

• MacPorts, Fink, etc.

  On my Mac OS X (10.5, soon to be 10.6) machine, how would you recommend I install various software that's been ported from Linux? I don't install such software very frequently, but I've been using MacPorts and it always seems quite slow, presumably because it has to compile the packages on-the-fly. I'd much prefer a package management system that has binary packages, saving me the need to compile things every time I want to download something new. I think Fink has binaries for some of the packages, but I usually see MacPorts recommended as the system to use. Which do you think works better and why? (Or is there another system that I haven't heard of?)

• Android: Determine when an app is being finalized vs destroyed for screen orientation change

  Hi all, I am relatively new to the Android world and am having some difficultly understanding how the whole screen orientation cycle works. I understand that when the orientation changes from portrait to landscape or vice versa the activity is destroyed and then re-created. Thus all the code in the onCreate function will run again. So here's my situation: I have an app that I am working on where it logs into a website, retrieves data, and displays it to the user. While this is all done in background threads, the code that starts these threads is in the onCreate function. Now, the problem lies in that whenever the user changes the screen orientation, the app will log in, retrieve the data, and display it to the user again. What I would like to do is set a boolean that tells the app if it is logged in or not so it knows whether or not it must log in when the onCreate function is called. So long as the app is in memory the HttpClient will exist and contain the cookies from logging the user in but when the app is killed by the system those will go away. So I would assume that I need to do something like setting the logged in boolean to false when the app is killed but since onDestroy is called when the screen is rotated how is this possible? I also looked into the finalize function and isFinishing() but those seem to not be working. Shorter version: How can I distinguish between when an app is being killed from memory from when an activity is being rotated and different code for each event? Any help or a point in the right direction is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  With Busybox, how do you search for an expression within a bunch of files recursively through a bunch of directories, but only look through text files? We don't know what the file's suffix is going to be; it could be .sh, it could be nothing, it could be something else. I was considering somehow basing the search on encoding although I am not quite sure what the encoding would be either. I've tried busybox grep -r but it searches through binary files too, which wastes a lot of time.

• How do I pass data from a BroadcastReceiver through to an Activity being started?

  I've got an Android application which needs to be woken up sporadically throughout the day. To do this, I'm using the AlarmManager to set up a PendingIntent and have this trigger a BroadcastReceiver. This BroadcastReceiver then starts an Activity to bring the UI to the foreground. All of the above seems to work, in that the Activity launches itself correctly; but I'd like the BroadcastReceiver to notify the Activity that it was started by the alarm (as opposed to being started by the user). To do this I'm trying, from the onReceive() method of the BroadcastReceiver to set a variable in the extras bundle of the intent, thus: Intent i = new Intent(context, MyActivity.class); i.putExtra(wakeupKey, true); i.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); context.startActivity(i); In the onResume() method of my Activity, I then look for the existence of this boolean variable: protected void onResume() { super.onResume(); String wakeupKey = "blah"; if (getIntent()!=null && getIntent().getExtras()!=null) Log.d("app", "onResume at " + System.currentTimeMillis() + ":" + getIntent().getExtras().getBoolean(wakeupKey)); else Log.d("app", "onResume at " + System.currentTimeMillis() + ": null"); } The getIntent().getExtras() call in onResume() always returns null - I don't seem to be able to pass any extras through at all in this bundle. Can anyone tell me what's different about passing a bundle from a BroadcastReceiver to an Activity, as opposed to passing the bundle from an Activity to a BroadcastReceiver? I fear I may be doing something very very obvious wrong here...

• How do I subscribe to a MSMQ queue but only "peek" the message in .Net?

  We have a MSMQ Queue setup that receives messages and is processed by an application. We'd like to have another process subscribe to the Queue and just read the message and log it's contents. I have this in place already, the problem is it's constantly peeking the queue. CPU on the server when this is running is around 40%. The mqsvc.exe runs at 30% and this app runs at 10%. I'd rather have something that just waits for a message to come in, get's notified of it, and then logs it without constantly pooling the server. • configure batch to sent minute info instead of entire stdout

  Hi all, I am working on a RedHat server along with several other users. We use the batch utility to set a job queue. Some of the programs that I use write stuff to stdout during the run, with info on who much data has been processed to far and estimated time until completion etc. batch -q z at> myScript -i somefile -o someotherfile By default, the batch util send an email to me (since I configured it using .forward) with the entire output from stdout. Since the scripts writes something to stdout a few times each second, the amount of log-stuff I get from a two-day script can be ˜20 Mbs. Clearly not what I want. I can of course pipe stdout to a file like so batch -q z at> myScript -i somefile -o someotherfile > myscript.stdout.log but then I get a blank e-mail from the util. So to my question: Is it possible to configure batch so that it sends time the job started and ended, or run time or some oth valuable information to me, instead of a 20 Mb mail or a blank mail? Note that the scripts that I use are binaries and I cannot customize the code to output less info in the first place (which would be the optimal solution I guess). Thanks /Daniel

  Whenever I try to import my Eclipse project to Android Studio I get the following error : You are using an old, unsupported version of Gradle. Please use version 1.8 or greater. Consult IDE log for more details (Help | Show Log) Im using Android Studio 0.3 and Ubuntu, I also tried it on a Windows 8 box with fresh install but getting the same error. I'm using default gradle wrapper and I tried checking and unchecking auto import option. Is this a bug? How can I get around it. How do I update gradle to 1.8 or check the current gradle version? • How to get the stacktrace in a mobile device?

  I'm getting a NullPointerException in a Nokia S40. I want to know what is causing this exception. The device shows: NullPointerException java/lang/NullPointerException This error only occurs in the device, running in the emulator the application works fine. I use microlog to debug my application. But the application works fine if the log is enabled. Is there a way to get the stack trace when I get this NullPointerException? I don't need all details like the line number just which method cause this exception. UPDATE: I installed the same application in another Nokia S40 and the same error didn't occur. • FTP transfer hangs for random files

  I've been stuck on this FTP issue for a while now. I have IIS 7 setup with an IIS 6 FTP server running on a Windows Server 2008 box. The problem I am running into is that I can't download certain files from the FTP server, even though I uploaded those files to the FTP server. The connection times out after 120 seconds. I have used Wireshark and checked the log files. The only message I see is the timeout message. The first thing that came to my mind was permission issues, however I have probably tried every combination of permissions that I can think of, with the end goal of getting the permissions to be the same for the files that work and the files that do not work. With the list of files I have now, I can download the zip, war, and msi files, but not the txt or sql files. It almost seems like a binary thing, but I've changed my transfer mode on the FTP client and also toggled the Active/Passive options around.

  I have discovered that debsum maybe does not work as i thought. I ran debsum -as And actually i did not see sshd binary in that list. • How to backup/restore excluding filestream varbinary in SQL Server 2008?

  There is an application used in a production site that uses SQL Server 2008 as its DBMS. The database schema uses Filestream Varbinary to save binary data on the filesystem instead of directly into the DB tables. The point is that now and then it would be useful to copy the production database on development machines, mostly for doing troubleshooting. The database is too big for comfortably moving it around, but it would be ok if it could be moved leaving out the filestream varbinary fields. In other words, I am trying to make an "imperfect" copy of a database: i.e., on the destination database, it is ok to have NULL values instead of the varbinary. Is this possible? I tried looking for the feature on the SQL Server Management studio and did a backup that excludes the filegroup containing the filestream varbinary, but I cannot restore: MSSMS complains that the restore cannot be done because the backup is incomplete (of course). Is it possible to achieve what I am trying to do in some way?

While old files is being processed, new files can come in. For now, I use quartz scheduler and thread synchronization to ensure that only one thread can process files. • AVAudioPlayer only initializes with some files

  Hi everyone, I'm having trouble playing some files with AVAudioPlayer. When I try to play a certain m4a, it works fine. It also works with an mp3 that I try. However it fails on one particular mp3 every time (15 Step, by Radiohead), regardless of the order in which I try to play them. The audio just does not play, though the view loading and everything that happens concurrently happens correctly. The code is below. I get the "Player loaded." log output on the other two songs, but not on 15 Step. I know the file path is correct (I have it log outputted earlier in the app, and it is correct). Any ideas? My Client need a script or any solution, if he has two Database, One Test DB in which he tests his data on test portal and if he find it appropriate he can use those changes to be done in main DB to display on Live site.. Fior this he needs the solution to record or track all updation/deletion/insertion, so that he can do the same in main DB if found appropriate, NOTE: we have only one server, no separate server, hence binary log replication doesnt seems to be working for my case..

  I am writing a webservice, that when called should build a C# project. I'm using the framework 2 reference, Microsoft.Buld.Engine and Microsoft.Build.Framework. If you look under the '<Import>' section .csproj file, by default it has: <Import Project="$(MSBuildToolsPath)\Microsoft.CSharp.targets" /> which I then changed to: <Import Project="$(MSBuildBinPath)\Microsoft.CSharp.targets" /> My code to build the csproj is: Engine buildEngine = new Engine(Path.Combine(Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("SystemRoot"), @"Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727")); FileLogger logger = new FileLogger(); logger.Parameters = @"logfile=c:\temp\build.log"; buildEngine.RegisterLogger(logger); bool success = buildEngine.BuildProjectFile([Path_Of_Directory]+ "ProjectName.csproj"); buildEngine.UnregisterAllLoggers(); The success variable returns a false because the build faild. I then check the build.log file and this is the error I recieve: *Build started 3/17/2010 11:16:56 AM. ______________________________ Project "[Path_Of_Directory]\ProjectName.csproj" (default targets): Target GetFrameworkPaths: Could not locate the .NET Framework SDK. The task is looking for the path to the .NET Framework SDK at the location specified in the SDKInstallRootv2.0 value of the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft.NETFramework. You may be able to solve the problem by doing one of the following: 1.) Install the .NET Framework SDK. 2.) Manually set the above registry key to the correct location. • rails i18n - translating text with links inside.

  Hi there! I'd like to i18n a text that looks like this: Already signed up? Log in! Note that there is a link on the text. On this example it points to google - in reality it will point to my app's log_in_path. I've found two ways of doing this, but none of them looks "right". The first way I know involves having this my en.yml: log_in_message: "Already signed up? <a href='{{url}}'>Log in!</a>" And in my view: <p> <%= t('log_in_message', :url => login_path) %> </p> This works, but having the <a href=...</a> part on the en.yml doesn't look very clean to me. The other option I know is using localized views - login.en.html.erb, and login.es.html.erb. This also doesn't feel right since the only different line would be the aforementioned one; the rest of the view (~30 lines) would be repeated for all views. It would not be very DRY. I guess I could use "localized partials" but that seems too cumberstone; I think I prefer the first option to having so many tiny view files. So my question is: is there a "proper" way to implement this?

  I have the following log4j config setup for my Web app which is being deployed to Tomcat: # Set root logger level to DEBUG and its only appender to A1. log4j.rootLogger=INFO, A1 # A1 is set to be a ConsoleAppender. log4j.appender.A1=org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender # A1 uses PatternLayout. log4j.appender.A1.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout log4j.appender.A1.layout.ConversionPattern=%m%n log4j.logger.org.hibernate=WARN log4j.logger.org.apache=WARN And it is being picked up by the Log4J as modifying the ConversionPattern affects the logs printed to the console. • Give back full control to a user on a disk from another computer

  I have my friend's hard drive mounted externally. After messing with the permissions with TAKEOWN so I could fix some viruses, I have full control over their drive. The problem is, now it's stuck in a "autochk not found" reboot sequence. I think the problem is that the boot sector is invisible to the drive now. So my question is, How can I use icacls to give back the full ownership, when the user I am giving it to is not on my machine? I ran the TAKEOWN command from my windows 7 laptop, their machine is a windows xp Professional with three partitions, I only altered the one that has the boot sector.
