• Stop SQL Server services from conveniently

  I have a general use laptop. I use it for games, development, and web surfing. I've just installed SQL Server 2008 with Analysis, Reporting, and Error reporting, as well as any of the other options on the installer. I also have a default instance of SQL server as well as a named instance. When I'm not doing development, I'd like to shut down these services conveniently. I'm thinking that a batch file would be good. What are the commands to shut these services down and release the associated memory and resources? It appears that: net stop MSSQLSERVER seems to stop the MSSQLSERVER instance. What about the other services?

I'm not using UITableViewCell subclasses, controls are added through tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath: method. When and where should I do the hide/show? I'm wondering is this even possible without subclassing (where I could do this in layoutSubviews)...

• What does "link to unknown" mean?

  I just upgraded my server to Fedora 17 which made a switch of my bootloader from GRUB Legacy to GRUB2. There are two symbolic links in the /etc folder that points to the files grub.conf and grub.cfg in /boot/grub and /boot/grub2 respectively. Though the targets seem correct, the link icons are displaying an X status which seems to indicate that the links are broken. Upon right-clicking the property type, it states "link to unknown". The file size of the link corresponds exactly with the file size of the target file, so, why does the links appear to be broken? • Terminal issues on OS X with XAMPP and Yii framework

  I'm trying to configure the Yii framework but am having problems with the terminal commands, and am also having difficulty setting up the webapp demo. I am using Mac OS X Snow Leopard and have installed XAMPP and placed the 'yii' folder in the xamppfiles \ htdocs folder. I have verified the http://localhost/yii/requirements/index.php which is working fine. I have tried the following but nothing seems to work so if anyone can point out what I'm doing wrong it would be very much appreciated. • Rails 2.3 uniqueness validation - how can I capture the value causing the error

  Hi - I'm trying to capture the value that's throwing a uniqueness error (or for that matter, any other type of built-in validation) to display it in the :message option. Here's what I tried (didn't work) # inside the model validate_uniqueness_of :name, :message => "#{name} has already been taken" # also tried using #{:name} I could use a custom validation, but this beats the point of using something that's already integrated into AR. I had an app that worked all along with this <context:property-placeholder location="classpath:my.properties"/> No problems finding the properties file and hooking things up. Now, I needed to encrypt some fields in the properties file. • Changed folder contents not updating in Finder (OS X 10.8)

  I've been having this problem for a number of days now. When I update the contents of a folder using terminal commands, by decompressing archives, or by using "Save As", the affected folder often fails to reflect these changes. Sometimes it takes quite a while for any files to be shown, even if the total size of the folder is fairly small (< 10 MB). I'm running an '09 MacBook Pro 13", so it isn't the newest system, but it certainly has enough oomph to display a list of files in a folder. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

• I need access control within the same network/VLAN

  Hi, I have a single network/VLAN and I want to block some traffic and allow some traffic in my network, is this possible using a L2 or L3 switch? If so which switches support this feature and what would be the commands to configure this? I have already tried this using access lists by applying it to an ethernet port but if I apply it on one port it will automatically work on incoming traffic on that port but I mean it to work on only outgoing traffic as per my ACL. Do you have any suggestions please?

• How can I tell what Apache modules are available to me?

  I'm currently reading 'Definitive Guide to Apache mod_rewrite' and throughout the book there are other Apache modules mentioned that are better alternatives in given scenarios. This has got me wondering what all is installed on my site. I don't have SSH access to the server, and I don't have access to any of the config files (afaik). Is there any way for me to determine what is installed, or do I have to directly ask my host? I suppose certain commands could be run inside PHP (i.e. using backticks), but I'm not sure what the limitations of that are. Thanks.

  I have written an O/R database wrapper that generates some wrapper methods for stored procs it reads from the database. Now I need to produce some custom wrapper code if an input parameter of a stored proc is defaulted to NULL. The problem is - I get stored proc parameters using: SqlCommandBuilder.DeriveParameters(command) and it doesn't bring parameter defaults. Is there any way to look up those defaults? Are they stored anywhere in the database? BTW, I'm using SQL Server 2008

• What changes can be made to a Microsoft Account using net user on Windows 8?

  In Windows 8, you can log on with a local account or with a Microsoft Account. Both types show up in the Users control panel, but there are different options that you can change for each type. An administrator can change basically any aspect of a local user - name, password, access level, etc. For a Microsoft Account, you can only change the access level (admin/standard) or remove the account. From the command line though, there don't appear to be any restrictions on what you can do a Microsoft Account. Using the net user tool or the Local Users and Groups MMC snap-in, it looks like an administrator would be able to change the password, display name, profile path, etc. of Microsoft Accounts (as well as local accounts of course). Will these commands actually work when applied to a Microsoft Account? Will using them in some way break the link to the Microsoft Account, or will nothing happen at all? I'm hesitant to test since I don't want to mess up my account permanently.

  I wanted to rename a lot of files with a pattern so I tried this for loop: $ for f in *; do mv \""$f"\" \""HouseMD-S06E${f#*Episode }"\"; done But I got this error: mv: cannot stat `"House MD Season 6 Episode 01 - Broken (Parts 1 & 2).avi"': No such file or directory So what I did was echo the mv commands to a file like this: $ for f in *; do echo mv \""$f"\" \""HouseMD-S06E${f#*Episode }"\">>mv.txt; done And the run the file with source.   I own a plugin for eclipse, but I want to use it at work. Is there a way to make eclipse use plugin files without it affecting other people using the same central version of Eclipse? • Rich Text Editing in Windows Forms

  I am using following text editor for my windows forms application http://www.codeproject.com/KB/edit/editor_in_windows_forms.aspx This works great and a wonderful control, however I am trying to accomplish one task i.e. I wanted to insert a custom tag to the underlying html for eg if user clicks on a button on form I want to insert a tag <myTag>value</myTag>" at the cursor's position of text editor. Can anyone guide me how to achieve this?

  How would you write a script (preferably for the Windows commandline) that: Examines thousands of MP3 files stored on a single drive (e.g., G:\) Randomizes the collection Populates a series of directories up to 650MB worth of songs (without exceeding 650MB) Every song is shucked exactly once (Optional) The directory size comes as close as possible to 650MB The DIR, COPY, and XCOPY commands have no explicit file size switches. A few Google searches have come up with: File size condition in DOS Cygwin and UWIN DOS File sizes It would be ideal if UNIX-like environments can be avoided. My question, then: How do you compare file (or directory) sizes using the Windows commandline?
