  • method for creating PHP templates (ie html with variables)?

    I'm designing my html emails, these are to be a block of html containing variables that i can store in a $template variable. My problem comes with the storing in the variable part. putting all my html into php makes it a pain in the bum to work with. for example, the below code is fine for a simple email but once i start getting nested tables etc its going to get really confusing... $template.= 'Welcome ' . $username . '<br /><br /><br />'; $template.= 'Thank-you for creating an account <br /><br />'; $template.= 'Please confirm your account by click the link below! <br /><br />'; $template.= '<a href="' . $sitepath .   • Preview of code-only WPF controls in VS2010 - how?

    Hi, I hope I am able to illustrate the problem using a lot of images. First of all, I was no real fan of XAML (Silverlight issues, crashes in Preview, and so on...) Now, with VS2010 the situation has become better. There are still a lot of things I like better in code, but I also want a preview in my VS. So, take a look at the following control: It is really simple, a todo details list. The first screenshot shows the code of the control, pretty straighforward: There is no XAML, so obviously no preview. Of course, I could encapsulate it in another control, like shown in the next screenshot: But, in that case I have an additional file I do not want or need. So I had the idea to move the init stuff inside the contructor of a XAML control. For simplicity, I used simple elements. But they do not show up in the preview... Finally, I know I could use the controls in other parts of my app when creating UIs. But I am using layout manager, PRISM and a lot of other stuff, so I just want an easy preview of some specific control I created (without having to have a XAML wrapper file for each control) Thanks for help, and sorry for the post structure, but I though with images it is better to understand...   • Why is my long polling code for a notification system not updating in real time? PHP MYSQL

    I am making a notification system similar to the red notification on facebook. It should update the number of messages sent to a user in real time. When the message MYSQL table is updated, it should instantly notify the user, but it does not. There does not seem to be an error inserting into MYSQL because on page refresh the notifications update just fine.   • Easier way to populate form data and validation data in Code Igniter?

    I'm new to code igniter. I'm following the form validation tutorial found at: http://www.codeignitor.com/user_guide/libraries/validation.html I find I am typing too much in the view to get the form to re-populate. For example, here's what one of my INPUT fields look like: <input type="text" name="email" value="<?=$this->validation->email ? $this->validation->email : $array_db_values['email'] ?>" /> Basically, when the form first loads, it should show a value from the database. If the user alters the value and it fails validation, then the form should post the erroneously submitted value. Does code igniter have a "cleaner" way of rendering this kind of output? Otherwise, I'm going to do something like this in my controller: $array_db_values = getdbresults(); if($_POST['submit']) foreach($_POST as $key=>$val) $array_db_values[$key] = $val; That way, if postback data exists, it will always override database values. Then input fields in my view can simply be: <input type="text" name="email" value="<?=$array_db_values['email'] ?>" /> Is there a better/native CI way to handle this scenario?

  • Bind an Incode DataTemplate in WPF

    I have a WPF Application which is using MVVM. I know that there ways of doing this in XAML but I am working on a plugin architecture and came up with a solution where a plugin exposes it's viewmodel to my plugin host's viewmodel and it's datatemplate. I want to leave the lifetime management of the plugin view up to WPF. I have tried having the plugins expose a UserControl but ran into issues when WPF decided to dispose of my UserControl so I would not reattach it without weird hacky work arounds. I am having issues getting some sort of binding working to where i can bind a control to the data and it's template to my data template. I have a ViewModel which looks something like: public class MyViewModel { public DataTemplate SelectedTemplate{ get; set;} public object SelectedViewModel {get; set;} } The selected template and viewmodel are determined somewhere else in the code but are irrelevant to my question. My question is how i can bind to a DataTemplate so that I know how to display the data shown in the SelectedViewModel. The DataTemplate is a DataTemplate created incode which respresents: <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type vm:MyViewModel}"> <v:MyUserControl /> </DataTemplate> I have tried: <UserControl Template="{Binding Path=SelectedTemplate}" Content="{Binding Path=SelectedViewModel"} /> But UserControl expects a control template and not a data template.

  • How to structure code with 2 methods, one after another, which throw the same two exceptions?

    Hi, I have two methods, one called straight after another, which both throw the exact same 2 exceptions (IF an erroneous condition occurs, not stating that I'm getting exceptions). For this, should I write seperate try and catch blocks with the one statement in each try block and catch both exceptions (Both of which I can handle as I checked MSDN class library reference and there is something I can do, eg, re-open SqlConnection or run a query and not a stored proc which does not exist). So code like this: try { obj.Open(); } catch (SqlException) { // Take action here. } catch (InvalidOperationException) { // Take action here. } And likewise for the other method I call straight after. This seems like a very messy way of coding. The other way is to code with the exception variable (that is ommited as I am using AOP to log the exception details, using a class-level attribute). Doing this, this could aid me in finding out which method caused an exception and then taking action accordingly. Is this the best approach or is there another best practise altogether? I also assume that, as only these two methods are thrown, I do not need to catch Exception as that would be for an exception I cannot handle (causes way out of my control). Thanks

    I am having some issues with applying a gradient to a RadButton.   • The best way to predict performance without actually porting the code?

    I believe there are people with the same experience with me, where he/she must give a (estimated) performance report of porting a program from sequential to parallel with some designated multicore hardwares, with a very few amount of time given. For instance, if a 10K LoC sequential program was given and executes on Intel i7-3770k (not vectorized) in 100 ms, how long would it take to run if one parallelizes the code to a Tesla C2075 with NVIDIA CUDA, given that all kinds of parallelizing optimization techniques were done? (but you're only given 2-4 days to report the performance? assume that you didn't know the algorithm at all. Or perhaps it'd be safer if we just assume that it's an impossible situation to finish the job) Therefore, I'm wondering, what most likely be the fastest way to give such performance report? Is it safe to calculate solely by the hardware's capability, such as GFLOPs peak and memory bandwidth rate? Is there a mathematical way to calculate it? If there is, please prove your method with the corresponding problem description and the algorithm, and also the target hardwares' specifications. Or perhaps there already exists such tool to (roughly) estimate code porting? (Please don't the answer: 'kill yourself is the fastest way.')

  • Where do you use Java code? Trouble sending .jar files

    Apologies for the generic nature of this question. I have been learning Java for a few months now, and I've created a few simple projects which have some functionality. I wanted to send the projects to a friend and I'm running into countless errors and struggles. Passing a .jar file is causing "Main class not found" errors when they try to open it. I tried using third party software to wrap the .jar files into an .exe file and the same errors still persist. Beyond that, I'm convinced that passing around .jar files wrapped into .exe files via third party software is NOT how Java was intended to be used. I've read two books on Java and they all talk about structuring the language, but I'm confused about WHERE I'm supposed to be using this code because it has become painfully obvious that it is NOT intended to be passed around in file format. Is this a server programming language? Used on the back end of websites mainly? I'm not sure where one would be using the code written in Java.

For each file, read data and insert into DB. So .. this is the code i have. var list = _repository.GetFileList(); if (list != null) { int i = 0; foreach(var file in list) { i++; var service = new MyService(i, _repository); service.ParseAndSave(); } } So i was hoping to have a new repository for each 'service' i create. Firstly, i'm not sure if I should be using IoC in this case. I believe I should be because then i don't need to tightly couple this winform to a repository. Secondly, I've tried using a Singleton repo, which I don't want and can confirm that it kills that code (crashes with an exception). Some other notes (which shouldn't impact this question) - Using Entity Framework for ASP.NET 4. - Using StructureMap for IoC Can someone help, please?

    I have an input file data, a python function parse and a template. What I am trying to do is use parse function to get dictionary out of data and use that to replace fields in template. Now to make this a bit more generic (I perform the same action in few places) I have defined a custom function to do so. Is there any way to get correct builds without making process functions being always invoked?

    Using EF code first 4.3 I'm trying to model an object tree with a required-required relationships and a required-optional relationships. Here is a simple representation of those classes public class Top { public int Id { get; set; } public virtual Middle Middle { get; set; } } public class Middle { public int Id { get; set; } public virtual Child Child { get; set; } } public class Child { public int Id { get; set; } } Here is the OnModelCreating code modelBuilder.Entity<Top>().HasRequired(t => t.Middle).WithRequiredPrincipal().WillCascadeOnDelete(); modelBuilder.Entity<Middle>().HasRequired(t => t.Child).WithOptional().WillCascadeOnDelete(); This produces the error "The specified index already exists. [ IX_Id ]" on SQLCE After checking the db schema, both model binder fluent API configuration lines create an index IX_Id on the table Middles. Does anyone know how to work around that problem?   • Is Using Tuples in my .NET 4.0 Code a Poor Design Decision?

    With the addition of the Tuple class in .net 4, I have been trying to decide if using them in my design is a bad choice or not. The way I see it, a Tuple can be a shortcut to writing a result class (I am sure there are other uses too). So this: public class ResultType { public string StringValue { get; set; } public int IntValue { get; set; } } public ResultType GetAClassedValue() { //..Do Some Stuff ResultType result = new ResultType { StringValue = "A String", IntValue = 2 }; return result; } Is equivalent to this: public Tuple<string, int> GetATupledValue() { //...Do Some stuff Tuple<string, int> result = new Tuple<string, int>("A String", 2); return result; } So setting aside the possibility that I am missing the point of Tuples, is the example with a Tuple a bad design choice? To me it seems like less clutter, but not as self documenting and clean. Meaning that with the type ResultType, it is very clear later on what each part of the class means but you have extra code to maintain. With the Tuple<string, int> you will need to look up and figure out what each Item represents, but you write and maintain less code. Any experience you have had with this choice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Joomla Site Templates: Architecture Advise

    Our client provided us with html templates to turn into a Joomla template, problem is their designs are not Joomla Template friendly where a lot of the html design are not consistent with structure. Currently the only solution we have is applying a template structure pattern that fits the most amount of their design and have seperate joomla templates to take care of the ones that doesn't fit. We have the generic Joomla Template configured with different positions for each div and assign each article to its respective position in the template. Some articles though have menu modules within them so our solution is to split the article into two position and define positions for each menu module. Is this method better than defining module positions within an article content to render menus within an article? Is there a better way of showing articles in specific div positions than having each article be represented by a module to render in a specific div (position) in a template? Right now our current way of rendering an article(s) content to a specific position is to create a module (moduleAsArticle) and define that module a position. So I have two problems here: I can't use I can't use arguments, it doesn't like them On the last line, I can't use jTextArea2.setText(d0); because it doesn't like that either...     I want to create a generic IEnumerable implementation, to make it easier to wrap some native C++ classes. When I try to create the implementation using a template parameter as the parameter to IEnumerable, I get an error. Here's a simple version of what I came up with that demonstrates my problem: ref class A {}; template<class B> ref class Test : public System::Collections::Generic::IEnumerable<B^> // error C3225... {}; void test() { Test<A> ^a = gcnew Test<A>(); } On the indicated line, I get this error: error C3225: generic type argument for 'T' cannot be 'B ^', it must be a value type or a handle to a reference type If I use a different parent class, I don't see the problem: template<class P> ref class Parent {}; ref class A {}; template<class B> ref class Test : public Parent<B^> // no problem here {}; void test() { Test<A> ^a = gcnew Test<A>(); } I can work around it by adding another template parameter to the implementation type: ref class A {}; template<class B, class Enumerable> ref class Test : public Enumerable {}; void test() { using namespace System::Collections::Generic; Test<A, IEnumerable<A^>> ^a = gcnew Test<A, IEnumerable<A^>>(); } But this seems messy to me.     Hi guys I'm new to programming and as a School task i need to implement BFS,DFS and A* search algorithms in java to search for a given Goal from a given start position in a Grid of given size, 4x4,8x8..etc to begin with i don't know how to code the neighbors of all the nodes. For example tile 1 in grid as 2 and 9 as neighbors and Tile 12 has ,141,13,20 as its neighbours but i'm struggling to code that. I need the neighbours part so that i can move from start position to other parts of gird legally by moving horizontally or vertically through the neighbours. my node class is: class node { int value; LinkedList neighbors; bool expanded; } let's say i'm given a 8x8 grid right, So if i start the program with a grid of size 8x8 right : 1 - my main will func will create an arrayList of nodes for example node ArrayList test = new ArrayList(); and then using a for loop assign value to all the nodes in arrayList from 1 to 64 (if the grid size was 8x8). BUT somehow i need t on coding that, if anyone can give me some details i would really appreciate it.

  • We Don’t Need No Regions

    If your code reaches a level where you want to hide it behind regions then you have a problem that regions won’t solve. Regions are good to hide things that you don’t want to have knowledge about such as auto-generated code. Normally, when you’re developing you end up reading more code than you write it so why would you want to complicate the reading process. I, for one, would love to have that one discussion around regions where someone convinces me that they solve a problem that has no other alternative solution, but I’m still waiting. The most frequent argument I hear about regions is that they allow you to structure your code, but why don’t just structure it using classes, methods and all that other stuff that OOP is about because at the end of the day, you should be doing object oriented programming and not region oriented programming. Having said that, I do believe that sometimes is helpful to have a quick overview of a code file contents and Visual Studio allows you to do just that through the Collapse to Definitions command (CTRL + M, CTRL + O) which collapses the members of all types; if you like regions, you should try this, it is much more useful to read all the members of a type than all the regions inside a type.
