• Does generation of debug information to JSP classes add much to javac execution time?

  Hi I am looking looking into the options for tweaking the performance of JBoss 5.1.0 and one of the options available to me is to disable the generation of debug information when compiling JSPs. I know that the presence/absence of debug information for the JVM makes no real difference, but does the generation of that debug information add much to compile time? Thanks in advance Richard

• Best way to display a background with a pattern in an iPhone/iPad app

  Here's an example of the type of background image I'm talking about... Clearly, there's a pattern in it. My question is, if this were an iPad app and the background image was twice the size, would there be any significant benefits to taking advantage of this pattern by tiling the image? Currently i am using parameter binding in SQL queries ( as i fill the database with only 5 - 6 queries and same is true for retrieving data). I dont know much about stored procedures and I am wondering how much if any performance increase stored procedures have over parameter binding as in parameter binding we prepare the query only once and just execute it later in the program for diferent set of values of variables.

  I'm trying to determine when an NSOpenPanel is closing before it actually closes. I need to do this so I can overlay another window with a screenshot of the open panel on top of it to be animated. Unfortunately, all the notifications that you seem to be able to access seem to fire AFTER the window's already been closed. This leads to a jarring stutter before you start your transition. I've tried: - using NSWindow delegate methods on the open panel (apparently, none of the NSWindow delegate methods work) - monitoring panel:userEnteredFilename:confirmed: (not called) - showing the dialog with a callback (callback happens AFTER the panel disappears)
