  • Cannot set video resolution above 640x480 after installing Windows XP SP2

    - by waanders
I've installed Windows XP SP2 on a computer (there was not SP at all). Now the display settings are set back to 640x480 and 4 bits colors. And I can't change it, it's the only option in Settings tab of the Display dialog of Windows. The screen look awful now, how can I solve this problem? UPDATE: Seems to be a problem with the video driver (thanks @Karan and @Hennes). I did run Speccy (PC-Wizard freezes the computer) and this is a part of the log file: Summary Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional 32-bit SP3 CPU Intel Celeron Willamette 0.18um Technology RAM 512 MB DDR @ 133MHz (2.5-3-3-6) Motherboard COMPAQ 0838h (FC-478) Graphics Standard Monitor (640x480@1Hz) Hard Drives 19.0GB Maxtor 2B020H1 (PATA) Optical Drives No optical disk drives detected Audio No audio card detected ... • Procedure entry point EncodePointer could not be located in kernel32.dll

    - by waanders
I get this error when trying to run a program on a Windows computer: Because it's a Dutch Windows version it is in Dutch, but in English it would be something like "Procedure entry point EncodePointer could not be located in kernel32.dll". I've been looking for a solution on the net and I think it has something to do with SP's of Windows. This are the system settings: Does this mean I'm not using any Windows XP Service Pack? I'm working on this for someone else, it's an old computer, not connected to the internet. Should I connect the computer to the internet and install all Windows updates to solve the problem? No other solution?

    - by waanders
Hello, I have a Paradox 5.0 database and want to migrate it to Access 2007. But if I try to import a Paradox table, Access gives an error message: "Incorrect collating sequence". The Help says: "You tried to link a Paradox table that was created with an international sort order that is not the same as the one you are using". What am I doing wrong? How can a change that sort order? Anybody? Thanks in advance.

    - by waanders
I know there's a way to get a list of all tables in an Access database by using the quering the MsysObjects: "SELECT MSysObjects.Name FROM MsysObjects WHERE (Left$([Name],1)<'~') AND (Left$([Name],4)<'Msys') AND (MSysObjects.Type)=1 ORDER BY MSysObjects.Name" Does anybody know a similar (or other) way to retrieve a list of all indexes in an MS-Access database?

I know about designing tables, queries, forms and so on and I'm a reasonable programmer, but I'm wondering what's the "best" and most efficient way to implement my "application". Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Dropdown in Access 2007 parameter query. Why not working

    - by waanders
Hello, I want a Access parameter query to ask an user for a value (a location in this case). When I type [Enter location] in the Criteria field it works fine: I get a dialog box (Enter Parameter Value) with a textbox and my text (Enter Location). So far, so good. This works (the result also). But now I want a dropdown/combobox (instead of a textbox ) for the user to pick a location. I made a form and type Forms![Form1]![CmbLocation] in the Criteria field. Like this: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/access/HA011170771033.aspx But I still get a textbox (with the reference as textlabel). What am I doing wrong? Has anybody any advice?

  • RODBC sqlSave and column names

    - by waanders
I've a question about using sqlSave. How maps RODBC data in the data frame to the database table columns? If I've a table with columns X and Y and a data frame with columns X and Y, RODBC puts X into X and Y into Y (I found out by trail-and-error). But can I explicitly tell R how to map data.frame columns to database table columns, like put A in X and B in Y. I'm rather new to R and think the RODBC manual is a bit cryptic. Nor can I find an example on the internet.

  • Message reason why Execute method failed

    - by waanders
I use the DAO method Execute to delete some records. If this fails this is clear by checking RecordsAffected (it will be 0). But is it possible to get the error message (for instance, to log or to show to the user)? I've try to delete the records by hand in the Table grid I get a clear dialog message, e.g. "The record cannot be deleted or changed because tabel x includes related records".
