    I have a table like so: mysql> show create table foo; CREATE TABLE foo ( network bigint NOT NULL, activeDate datetime NULL default '0000-00-00 00:00:00', ... ) In the domain object, FooVO the activeDate member is annotated as Temporal. If I don't set activeDate to a valid Date instance, a new record is inserted with NULLs. I want the default value to take effect if I don't set the activeDate member. Thanks.

It appears that when I submit the form the file is not sent and I am unsure as to why? I have also been unsuccessful in finding an example online where a file upload is used in conjunction with other input types. Another query I have is that for Create, and Edit operations I have used a PartialView for my forms to make my application have higher code reuse. The form action is normally generated by just using: Html.BeginForm() And this populates the action depending on which Url is being used Edit or Create. However when populating HTML attributes you have to provide a action and controller value to pass HTML attributes. using (Html.BeginForm("Create", "Problem", FormMethod.Post, new { id = "ProblemForm", enctype = "multipart/form-data" })) Is it possible to somehow populate the action and controller value depending on the URL to maintain code reuse? Thinking about it whilst typing this I could set two values in the original controller action request view data and then just populate the value using the viewdata values?   • Performance tuning of a Hibernate+Spring+MySQL project operation that stores images uploaded by user

    Hi I am working on a web project that is Spring+Hibernate+MySQL based. I am stuck at a point where I have to store images uploaded by a user into the database. Although I have written some code that works well for now, but I believe that things will mess up when the project would go live. Here's my domain class that carries the image bytes: @Entity public class Picture implements java.io.Serializable{ long id; byte[] data; ... // getters and setters } And here's my controller that saves the file on submit: public class PictureUploadFormController extends AbstractBaseFormController{ ... protected ModelAndView onSubmit(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response, Object command, BindException errors) throws Exception{ MutlipartFile file; // getting MultipartFile from the command object ... // beginning hibernate transaction ... Picture p=new Picture(); p.setData(file.getBytes()); pictureDAO.makePersistent(p); // this method simply calls getSession().saveOrUpdate(p) // committing hiernate transaction ... } ... } Obviously a bad piece of code. Is there anyway I could use InputStream or Blob to save the data, instead of first loading all the bytes from the user into the memory and then pushing them into the database? I did some research on hibernate's support for Blob, and found this in Hibernate In Action book: java.sql.Blob and java.sql.Clob are the most efficient way to handle large objects in Java. Unfortunately, an instance of Blob or Clob is only useable until the JDBC transaction completes. So if your persistent class defines a property of java.sql.Clob or java.sql.Blob (not a good idea anyway), you’ll be restricted in how instances of the class may be used. In particular, you won’t be able to use instances of that class as detached objects. Furthermore, many JDBC drivers don’t feature working support for java.sql.Blob and java.sql.Clob. Therefore, it makes more sense to map large objects using the binary or text mapping type, assuming retrieval of the entire large object into memory isn’t a performance killer. Note you can find up-to-date design patterns and tips for large object usage on the Hibernate website, with tricks for particular platforms. Now apparently the Blob cannot be used, as it is not a good idea anyway, what else could be used to improve the performance? I couldn't find any up-to-date design pattern or any useful information on Hibernate website. So any help/recommendations from stackoverflowers will be much appreciated. Thanks

  • XSLT workflow with variable number of source files

    I have a bunch of XML files with a fixed, country-based naming schema: report_en.xml, report_de.xml, report_fr.xml, etc. Now I want to write an XSLT style sheet that reads each of these files via the document() XPath function, extracts some values and generates one XML files with a summary. My question is: How can I iterate over the source files without knowing the exact names of the files I will process? At the moment I'm planning to generate an auxiliary XML file that holds all the file names and use the auxiliary XML file in my stylesheet to iterate. The the file list will be generated with a small PHP or bash script. Are there better alternatives? I am aware of XProc, but investing much time into it is not an option for me at the moment. Maybe someone can post an XProc solution. Preferably the solution includes workflow steps where the reports are downloaded as HTML and tidied up :) I will be using Saxon as my XSLT processor, so if there are Saxon-specific extensions I can use, these would also be OK.

    I'm trying to implement a database build using VSTS 2008 Database Edition. The build always fails on the following constraint: ALTER TABLE [dbo].[tablename] ADD CONSTRAINT [DF_tablename_date] DEFAULT (CONVERT([varchar],dateadd(hour,(-1),getdate()),(1))) FOR [date]; The error that it shows is the following: TSD03082: The name "hour" is not permitted in this context. Valid expressions are constants, constant expressions, and (in some contexts) variables. Column names are not permitted. Anybody have an idea what is wrong here?

  • Expression Too Complex In Access 2007

    When I try to run this query in Access through the ODBC interface into a MySQL database I get an "Expression too complex in query expression" error. The essential thing I'm trying to do is translate abbreviated names of languages into their full body English counterparts. I was curious if there was some way to "trick" access into thinking the expression is smaller with sub queries, or if someone else had a better idea of how to solve this problem. I thought about making a temporary table and doing a join on it, but that's not supported in Access SQL. Just as an FYI, the query worked fine until I added the big long IFF chain. I tested the query on a smaller IFF chain for three languages, and that wasn't an issue, so the problem definitely stems from the huge IFF chain (It's 26 deep). Also, I might be able to drop some of the options (like combining the different forms of Chinese or Portuguese) As a test, I was able to get the SQL query to work after paring it down to 14 IFF() statements, but that's a far cry from the 26 languages I'd like to represent. The list of languages should have been a table in the database and the login.lang should have been a FK into that table. Unfortunately this isn't how the database was written, and it's not really mine to modify. The languages are placed into the login.lang field by the PHP running on top of the database.

  • Android OnClick in ListView calling parent function

    I have an Android application with a ListView in it, the ListView will setup fine but now I want a image in the ListView to be clickable. I do this by using 2 classes, the Activity class (parent) and an ArrayAdapter to fill the list. In the ArrayAdapter I implement a OnClickListener for the image in the list that I want to be clickable. So far it all works. But now I want to run a function from the activity class when the onClick, for the image in the list, is run but I do not know how. Below are the 2 classes that I use. I know I can run rake doc:app manually, but I really don't feel like adding a manual step to the check-in process, and since we're already using cruisecontrolrb to handle deployment and testing automation, it seems like there should be an easy way to regenerate these files on check-in. Is anyone already automating rake doc:app? And, if so, what are your suggestions?

    Hello, I'm working on an iPhone app that will use Vimeo Simple API to give me a listing our videos by a certain user, in a convenient TableView format. I'm new to Parsing XML and have tried TouchXML, TinyXML, and now NSXMLParser with no luck. Most tutorials on parsing XML are for a blog, and not for an API XML sheet. I've tried modifying the blog parsers to search for the specific tags, but it doesn't seem to work. Right now I'm working with NSXMLParser and it seems to correctly find the value of an XML tag, but when it goes to append it to a NSMutableString, it writes a whole bunch of nulls in between it.   • Linux servers going into Halt when pressing Control-D in putty or exit in the shell

    Since today at noon, there's a number of Linux CentOS servers which are going to Halt whenever i type exit or use Control-D to close the putty window. Did anyone encounter this weird behavior before? I've checked the aliases list on the servers and there is no alias regarding halt command. After the server came online i've checked the history and saw a "logout" command there but nothing which is related to Halt. At first, i thought it happens only from my computer but later i realized that it happens to everyone which types exit, logout or control+d. 2 of these server are our main iptables firewalls and so it's super critical, your assistance is much appreciated.   • Rails: How do I unserialize from database?

    Hello, I am currently trying to save information for an invoice/bill. On the invoice I want to show what the total price is made up of. The procedures & items, their price and the qty. So in the end I hope to get it to look like this: Consult [date] [total_price] Procedure_name [price] [qty] Procedure_name [price] [qty] Consult [date] [total_price] Procedure_name [price] [qty] etc... All this information is available through the database but i want to save the information as a separate copy. That way if the user changes the price of some procedures the invoice information is still correct. I thought i'd do this by serializing and save the data to a column (consult_data) in the Invoice table.     I have a website that I'm trying to migrate from classic asp to asp.net. It had a lead schedule, where each sales agent would be featured for the current day, or part of the day.The next day a new agent would be scheduled. It was driven off a database table that had a row for each day in it. So to figure out if a sales agent would show on a day, it was easy, just find today's date in the table. Problem was it ran out rows, and you had to run a script to update the lead days 6 months at a time. Plus if there was ever any change to the schedule, you had to delete all the rows and re-run the script. So I'm trying to code it where sql server figures that out for me, and no script has to be ran. Also if they wanted to they could split certain days, or sales agents by time, So from Midnight to 4 it was one agent, from 4-midnight it was another. So far I've tried using a numbers table, row numbers, goofy date math, and I'm at a loss. Any suggestions on how to handle this purely from sql code? If it helps, the table should always be small, like less than 20 never over 100. update After a few hours all I've managed to come up with is the below.
