• Dictionary is returning false on ContainsKey after item is added

  I have a dictionary declared as follows IDictionary<string, object> _objectIds = new Dictionary<string, object>(); I was experiencing some problems with it and it discovered that the instance returned false as a result of ContainsKey method and from the watch window I was sure that the item was there. So I created helper method private bool IdsContainsKey(string key) { lock (syncObject) { lock (_objectIds) { if (_objectIds.ContainsKey(key)) return true; // A if (_objectIds.ContainsKey(key)) return true; // B return _objectIds.ContainsKey(key); // C } } } During my debugging session I run into situation when the method exited in place B and sometimes I made to C returning true. • How to structure a Genetic Algorithm class hierarchy?

  I'm doing some work with Genetic Algorithms and want to write my own GA classes. Since a GA can have different ways of doing selection, mutation, cross-over, generating an initial population, calculating fitness, and terminating the algorithm, I need a way to plug in different combinations of these. My initial approach was to have an abstract class that had all of these methods defined as pure virtual, and any concrete class would have to implement them. If I want to try out two GAs that are the same but with different cross-over methods for example, I would have to make an abstract class that inherits from GeneticAlgorithm and implements all the methods except the cross-over method, then two concrete classes that inherit from this class and only implement the cross-over method. The downside to this is that every time I want to swap out a method or two to try out something new I have to make one or more new classes. Is there another approach that might apply better to this problem?

• CentOS 5.7 keeps rebooting after fresh installation

  I have just installed CentOS 5.7 x86_64 on a new computer. The installation went on without any issues. But, after it finnished, the machine started to show an awkward behaviour: it restarts every time it tries to boot. It happens after all the services have been started. The screen just goes black and it shows an error message from the monitor: Input not supported. And then it reboots. I took a look at the logs, but I couldn't manage to find anything. Any help? Update Before doing the hardware diagnosis, as pointed out, I decided to make some tests. First, I changed the runlevel to 3, adding the 3 parameter at the end of the kernel command. Then, after logging in in text mode, I checked the xorg.conf file out for some problems regarding the screen resolution. There was nothing unexpected set. Well, if there had to be a problem with it, I couldn't start the X server at the command line, right? So, I typed startx and Gnome started! So, probably, it's not an issue with the screen resolution, I suppose. Then I selected the Log Out root... Gnome menu option and something odd happened: the screen went black, the Input not supported monitor error message was displayed and the system rebooted. Yes, the same problem I was having while trying to boot! After that, I decided to try yet another test: I removed the rhgb quiet parameters from the kernel command to see if some error would show up. Well, to my surprise, the boot went on without problems! The Gnome login screen showed up, I logged in and the session started. But then I selected the Shut Down... menu option and guess what? Same problem: black screen, same monitor error and the system rebooted. Yes, it rebooted, it did not shut down. I repeated both of the tests and the behaviours were the same. I really don't know what's going on. It seems to be an issue regarding the changing of the screen mode or something like that. Any ideas? Could this be a hardware problem? Or does it seem to be something regarding the system configuration?

• Apple documentation incorrect about MKMapView -regionThatFits: ?

  In the Apple documentation for the -regionThatFits: method of the MKMapView, it says that this will return a new region centered on the same point as the region that's passed in, only with the regions bounds corrected for the iPhone screen aspect ratio. This seems to be incorrect in implementation...before the call to this method, my region shows up as: $5 = { center = { latitude = 37.322898864746094, longitude = -122.03209686279297 }, span = { latitudeDelta = 14.278411865234375, longitudeDelta = 1.5202401876449585 } } ..however, after the call to this method, I end up with: $6 = { center = { latitude = 36.973427342552824, longitude = -122.03209686279297 }, span = { latitudeDelta = 14.521333317196799, longitudeDelta = 14.0625 } } This is quite a big difference on the map - this translates to the distance between Cupertino, CA and Santa Cruz, CA. Anyone else experience this discrepancy?

• How to extend WPF hit testing zone for a Path object.

  Wpf hit testing is pretty good but the only method I found to extend the hit zone is to put a transparent padding area around your object. I can't find any method to add a transparent area arround a Path object. The path is very thin and I would like to enable hit testing if the user clicks near the path. I can't find any method to extend the path object with a transparent area like the image below : I tried to used a partially transparent stroke brush but I ran into the problem described here : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1412833/how-can-i-draw-a-soft-line-in-wpf-presumably-using-a-lineargradientbrush I also tried to put an adorner over my line but because of WPF anti-aliasing algorithms, the position is way off when I zoom in my canvas and interfere with other objects hit-testing in a bad way. • ASP.NET MVC ViewModelBuilder Suggestions

  For anything but trival view models, I use a view model builder that handles the responsibility of generating the view model object. Right now, I use constructor injection of the builders into my controllers but this smells a little since the builder is really dependent upon which action method is being executed. I have two ideas in mind. The first one would involve a custom ActioFilter allowing me to decorate each action method with the appropriate builder to use. The second would be to add an override of the View method that is open to accepting a generic. This is what my code currently looks like. Note, the builder get injected via the ctor. [HttpGet, ImportModelStateFromTempData, Compress] public ActionResult MyAccount() { return View(accountBuilder.Build()); } Here is what option one would look like: [HttpGet, ImportModelStateFromTempData, Compress, ViewModelBuilder(typeof(IMyAccountViewModelBuilder)] public ActionResult MyAccount() { return View(accountBuilder.Build()); } Or option two: [HttpGet, ImportModelStateFromTempData, Compress] public ActionResult MyAccount() { return View<IMyAccountViewModelBuilder>(); } Any thoughts or suggestions would be great!

  Using VS 2010, with ASP.NET, and .NET 3.0, and C#... When I use a System.Web.UI.WebControls.SqlDataSource and call its Insert() method to insert a new row, and that table has an identity column, I'd like my method to return the value of that column. For example, in my SQL 2005 table, I've got: Customer.Id Customer.FirstName Customer.LastName Where Customer.Id is an identity colum. When I call my method InsertNewCustomerRecord( "John", "Smith" ), I'd like to be able to return the Customer.Id that gets automatically generated in the database. • Why are access modifiers on web service proxy methods important

  I'm creating interface to an external web service with C# client generated from WSDL. And in this client class I have methods with signature like: public ResponseType InvokeMethod(RequestType request). I want to change its access modifier to protected, but then web service responds with "web service method name is not valid" exception. Do You know why is that so? I understand that maintaining method name can be important for some reasons, but why can't I change this access modifier? Shouldn't it be a matter of my code what access I want to give to this method? Thanks for all the answers in advance.

• Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - Dual monitor works only sometimes (ATI multi-desktop)

  I've been using my laptop with an external LCD monitor attached to it at work (Philips 201E). And at home with a different external monitor (Samsung 2032BW). I have an ATI graphics card (HD3450), with Ati Catalyst drivers enabled and I'm using the Single display desktop (Multi-Desktop) seeting. At work I have the external monitor on the left and laptop on the right, while at home the other way around. So when I switch between the two setups, I just needed to go to Ati Catalyst Control Center, change the order of the displays, change the resolution (Home - 1680x1050, Work - 1440x900), reboot and it was all fine. But since a while it doesn't work properly anymore: At home it still works fine. At work it doesn't work. Sometimes it works for some reason, after a few resolution/setting changes in ACCC and reboots... it's very strange and annoying. With the home monitor I can see the whole bootup process on both monitors (laptop + LCD) and it always just works fine. With the work monitor on the external LCD monitor I just see "No video input" until I get to the login screen, then it shows up there as well. But after login it will either: Flicker a few times, but then work OK. Or (more often) Flicker once and then go back to "No video input" again. I usually end up rebooting a few times until it works. Does anyone have any idea for fixing it? • How to generate proxy for a child class when my web service return a parent class?

  Hi * I have a web method like this: public class ParentClass{ public String str1; } public class ChildClass : ParentClass{ public String str2; } public class WebService{ public ParentClass WebMethod(){ return GetFirstChildClass(); //Return a child class } } When I generate proxy for this web service by Visual Studio, VS just generate proxy for ParentClass but I need ChildClass too. For workaround I add a dummy method to WebService that return ChildClass to generate proxy for ChildClass in client. public class WebService{ ... //This is a dummy method to generate proxy for ChildClass in client. public ChildClass DummyWebMethod(){ return null; } } In addition I write web service in java (JAX-WS) and my client is a SilverLight Application.   Hello, I have an application which uses Spring 3. I have a view resolver which builds my views based on a String. So in my controllers I have methods like this one. @RequestMapping(...) public String method(){ //Some proccessing return "tiles:tileName" } I need to return a RedirectView to solve the duplicate submission due to updating the page in the browser, so I have thought to use Spring redirect: prefix. The problem is that it only redirects when I user a URL alter the prefix (not with a name a resolver can understand). I wanted to do something like this: @RequestMapping(...) public String method(){ //Some proccessing return "redirect:tiles:tileName" } Is there any way to use RedirectView with the String (the resolvable view name) I get from the every controller method?   I want to be able to send some extra headers with my UIWebView loadRequest method. I have tried: NSMutableURLRequest *req = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://www.reliply.org/tools/requestheaders.php"]]; [req addValue:@"hello" forHTTPHeaderField:@"aHeader"]; [self.theWebView loadRequest:req]; I have also tried subclassing the UIWebView and intercepting the - (BOOL)webView:(UIWebView *)webView shouldStartLoadWithRequest:(NSURLRequest *)request navigationType:(UIWebViewNavigationType)navigationType method. In that method I had a block of code which looked like this: NSMutableURLRequest *newRequest = [request mutableCopy]; for(NSString *key in [customHeaders allKeys]) { [newRequest setValue:[customHeaders valueForKey:key] forHTTPHeaderField:key]; } [self loadRequest:newRequest]; But for some unknown reason it was causing the web view to not load anything (blank frame) and the error message NSURLErrorCancelled (-999) comes up (all known fixes don't fix it for me). So I am at a loss as to what to do. How can I send a custom header along with a UIWebView request? Many thanks!

This works just fine - I can right click on a row and it will show me the correct text in the menu item 'Create Reminder for order 12345'. Then I scroll the datagrid down a page. If I keep right clicking on items then suddenly I'll see the wrong order number for a row. I think what must be happening is this : The DataGrid is reusing instances of MenuItem that it has previously created. How can I force a refresh of the ContextMenu when it is displayed for an item that changes? There's no 'Update method on the ContextMenu or ContextMenuService.

• Looking for a AutoZoom browser plugin

  I have a pretty large 24" wide screen with a pretty high resolution. When I browse, some sites have a fixed layout and there is basically a narrow column. So I typically zoom in to the point just before the level where I have to scroll horizontally. Is there a browser plugin that auto-zooms in (or via a button or gesture or whatever) to the max available real estate? I'd prefer a plugin for Chrome, but Firefox will do too.

I just built a Java OpenGL application in Eclipse... and when i was trying to export the application using EclipseP5Exporter, it requires me to initialize the window size (not viewport size, a window may contain several viewports). I already googled some solutions in the net but I can't seem to get anything useful.. I've tried the method : "glutInitWindowSize(int width, int height);" but it seems to work only in C and python openGL. even if i append the glut before the method (glut.glutInitWindowSize()) eclipse doesn't recognize that method.. So if you guys have any suggestions please let me know... Thank you....

• UISlider returns two Touch Up Inside events, why does that happen?

  I have a slider that I'm using to set a float value somewhere. I connect Value Changed to a method in my viewController. That part works fine. I need to know when the user starts touching the control but not necessarily every single instant that the slider changes (I receive the Value Changed events for that). So I connected a Touch Up Inside event to another method in the viewController. The problem it, that method gets called twice when the user touches the UISlider control. WTF? It doesn't work that way with UIButtons or other touch events like Touch Down. I can work around it, I think, but it seems like a bug in the way the slider control handles touches. Does anybody know why it happens? BTW: the double touch event happens even when Touch Up Inside is the only connected event.

Note: After download sample from http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/7/f279e71e-efb0-4155-873d-5554a0608523/DesignerHosting.exe, you must add typeof(System.Windows.Forms.SplitContainer) to ToolboxXmlManager.cs(Line 13) in ToolBox project. How does, for example, four 320x240 cameras fare against a single 640x480 camera? I'm not well versed in the architecture of the USB interface, what are the performance caveats? By performance I mean how would it affect the time to read the image data from multiple cameras compared to a single one.

• NSButton argument binding doesn't pass argument?

  I have a NSCollectionView with a NSButton in the collection view item. The xib's owner is set to my BatchListViewController and the controller has the method @interface BatchListViewController : NSViewController -(IBAction)another_click; @end I set the binding for target to be: This works fine but I also want to send the underlying model to the another_click method. According to the Apple docs, The objects specified in the argument bindings are passed as parameters to the selector specified in the target binding when the NSButton is clicked. So I set the binding for argument to be: This runs fine if I keep the selector method's signature the same another_click: but if I change it to -(IBAction)another_click:(id)arg; I get the dreaded error: BatchListViewController another_click]: unrecognized selector sent to instance What am I doing wrong? Apple's docs say this is possible but I haven't been able to find an example of this working. Even other SO threads are saying this isn't possible but that can't be right.

• Scrolling textboxes programmatically using WndProc messages.

  Hi, I'm trying to scroll a textbox using the form's WndProc method. The code I've come up with so far, after scouring the internet, looks like this: private void ScrollTextBox() { scrollMessage = Message.Create(TabContents.Handle, 0x00B6, new IntPtr(0x0003), new IntPtr(0x0000)); this.WndProc(ref scrollMessage); } where TabContents is a TextBox. For some reason, nothing happens when i call this method. I'd like to know why. I realise that i can accomplish the same with the MoveToCaret method, but I'm curious why this is not working.
