• Hyper-V Virtual Ethernet Adapter not working probperly - Code 31 on Host

  I have a Windows 8.1 machine with Hyper-V installed. From a "clean" Hyper-V configuration I open Virtual Switch Manager, create an External switch with "Allow management operating system to share this network adapter", click OK. Everything seems to work properly but the host loses network connectivity. Opening Device Manager, the "Hyper-V Virtual Ethernet Adapter" is shown under the Network Adapter section with a yellow triangle, and the following message: This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31) An object ID was not found in the file. I tried "Uninstalling" the device, seems to work, but the device doesn't actually remove. I tried removing and re-adding the Hyper-V feature completely, no difference. Tried scf /scannow, no problems. System and Application logs show no errors. The Hyper-V-VMMS Networking log shows the following: Log Name: Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-VMMS-Networking Source: Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-VMMS Date: 10/24/2013 10:53:07 AM Event ID: 26088 Description: Failed to apply static IP settings to internal Ethernet adapter {A813DE9A-BE70-4FAE-AD31-BE4D54505A4B} ('885435B8-BE65-4EE9-826D-AB56035237ED'): Unspecified error (0x80004005). If I try to remove the Virtual Switch in Hyper-V Virtual Switch Manager I get this in that same log: Log Name: Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-VMMS-Networking Source: Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-VMMS Date: 10/24/2013 11:19:47 AM Event ID: 26142 Description: Failed while removing virtual Ethernet switch. Trying to remove the Virtual Switch leads to an error: Error applying Virtual Switch Properties changes Failed while removing virtual Ethernet switch. VM Networking does work.

  Hi, My W2K3 server was running TFS 2008 SP1, SQL Server 2005 Development edition. I installed SQL Server 2008 Standard. I installed it while leaving SQL Server 2005 alone. Upgrading was not possible due to the differences in editions of the SQL Servers. Now TFS is broken. On a client computer, if I go Team - Connect to Team Foundation Server, I get this error: Team Foundation services are not available from server myserver. Error code = 0x8007000b In MS connect this is reported as a bug but MS is unable to reproduce the problem altough when you search the fora I'm not the only one with this problem. • Port forwarding on Fortigate 50B

  I have serious problems setting up port forwarding on a Fortigate 50B. The unit is basically running as factory default, the wan1 interface is connected to my fibre optic internet modem, and my lan is connected to the internal switch of the Fortigate. The factory default firewall policy allowing traffic from the internal interface to wan1 is kept and I'm able to access the interet as normal. Then I added a virtual ip and a firewall policy for allowing access from the internet to my local servers (ip 192.168.9.51) webserver (standard port 80). The settings I made are as follows. Edit Virtual IP Mapping Name : Server VIP External interface : wan1 Type : Static NAT Extermal IP Address/Range : 0.0.0.0 Mapped IP Address/Range : 192.168.9.51 Port Forwading : not checked Firewall policy Source interface/Zone : wan1 Source address : all Destination interface/Zone : internal Destination address : Server VIP Schedule : always Service : HTTP Action : ACCEPT no other settings checked What happens now is that I'm unable to access internet from my server, I'm not getting through to the webserver from internet either. I'm able to ping a site on the outside, but all web traffic is blocked, both ways. I've checked the documentation, but as far as I can tell I have set this up correctly. Anyone here with knowledge of Fortigate port forwading/NAT?

  Our target server indicates it has hundreds of thousands of backlogged transactions. Our authoritative source server indicates it has no backlogged transactions. No replication is taking place. Tests with plain text files aren't replicating. dfsdiag propogation tests fail to propogate. I've restarted the DFS services. I've restarted the servers. I've created new DFS shares to test with. The authoritative source server indicates it has no backlogs and the target indicates it has backlogs (which are the files it's waiting to receive). Files don't replicate in either direction. 2x Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard servers One server is at each of two sites The DFSR shares are on each respective server \site_1_server_1\users \site_2_server_1\users The sites are connected by a T1 DFSR worked for a week. I added a new share, another folder on the same servers, and that replicated for a weekend but never finished. Then all replication stopped. Is Windows DFSR flaky? What tools should I use and what should I look at to identify what's causing this problem?

  I've read several guides on using DFS-R with WDS and MDT to replicate REMINST and DeploymentShare, and I have a particularly strange problem. On the receiving server, after configuring WDS and mounting the DeploymentShare into MDT's DeploymentWorkbench, I also performed the following: 1) in .\Control\Bootstrap.ini, changed DeployRoot to \%wdsserver%\DeploymentShare$ 2) Changed the UNC path at the root of the MDT Deployment Share in the DeploymentWorkbench to match that of the current server. 3) In Unattend.xml files located: .\Control**, modified the following value to match the current server: <cpi:offlineImage catelog://HOST/ I am able to boot and grab the LiteTouch PE image off the local WDS TFTP server, but the WIM files, the scripts, everything else is being pulled off the WDS server at the remote site (the original WDS server that was the source of the files within the DFS-R replicated folder). What do I do in order to solve this problem? I've grepped all the files below the DeploymentShare to look for instances of the hostname of the WDS server at the remote site (the source of the files), but I found none.   I have a Motorola NVG510 modem from AT&T, and I would like to disable all routing functions and use it as just a modem. I have a Time Capsule that's already connected and broadcasting its own wireless network, which is how I've been connecting (it's been reporting a double-NAT error, which I assume is from the NVG510 also acting as a router). I followed the instructions in question six here, and I can connect as I did before, but my Time Capsule still has a double-NAT error. How do I put the NVG510 into bridge mode or otherwise fix the double-NAT error? (No, ignoring it does not count as a fix.)

  I have created a custom Library under Windows 7 64bit professional to handle my source code. When I tried Windows Backup and Restore for the first time I get the following error Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Source. Error:(The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002)) I've found a thread on the error on the Microsoft answers site. But it appears to be 404 (there is a version in Google's Cache) and the thread starter never gets an answer to his issue that works. The official Microsoft answer on this is This problem is due to one or more profiles under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList with missing ProfileImagePath. To check whether you have missing profiles: Open regedit, navigate to the above registry key. (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList). Expand the list Click on each of the profiles listed. The first 3 profiles should have ProfileImagePath value of %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\SystemProfile, %SystemRoot%\ServiceProfiles\LocalService, and %SystemRoot%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService respectively. Starting from the 4th profile, the ProfileImagePath should contain path to the user profiles on your machine, such as C:\users\Christine If one or more of the profile has no profile image, then you have missing profiles. To work around this, delete the profile in question (Caution: The registry contains critical settings that are necessary for your system to function properly. Take extra caution while making changes) First, export the ProfileList key for safekeeping. (Right click on the key, choose “Export”, and save it to the desktop.)   I've a PPTP server setup on my local home network (192.168.1.0/24, pfSense). Now sometimes when I'm away and want to connect remotely my client (Windows 7) is also on the same network because e.g. the hotel has set it up the same way. Thus the connection works, but I can't reach any PC on my home network because everything is routed directly to the client local router which is in the same subnet. Is there a way to work around this by messing with a configuration or adapting Windows routing table, i.e. without modifying either network?

• Remote desktop is slow when connecting to a computer which is part of a domain

  Hey all, We have two windows 2003 machines, one is a DC and another is joined to the domain of the DC. These machines are not locally available to us so we have to remote desktop into them. When we first got the machines remote desktop was blazing as the machines are only a couple of miles away. I then installed AD and setup routing and remote access, I also setup DNS on the DC. Now when I try remote Desktop into the machine which is part of the domain (not the DC) it is painfully slow! Remote Desktop onto the DC is also noticeably slower! Another problem is that our FTP to the DC has also become slow. I don't know what other information I can provide, as I am new to Sys Admin (moving over from development). The speed should be fast as these machines are only a couple of miles away. Any help / suggestions is greatly appreciated! Thanks Peuge

  I'm running ISA 2006 with PPTP VPN for my AD-controlled network. DHCP is located on the ISA server itself and authentication is done by RADIUS (NPS) located on the DC. Right now my VPN clients can connect, access local DNS, and can ping ISA, the DC, and other clients. Here's where it gets weird. I also noticed that since ISA takes blocks of 10 IP addresses from DHCP for VPN, it had reserved 10.42.4.2-11. I'm not sure if it means anything, though. Thanks for your help.

  We are running Exchange 2010 and lately I have noticed that some outgoing messages get stuck in the queue with the error "451 4.4.0 DNS Query Failed". On every domain that this happens on I have been able to use nslookup to find the MX record and open a connection to their server over SMTP so I am reasonably sure that this problem is on my end. My send connector isn't routing mail through a smart host nor is is set to use a different DNS server to do the lookup so I'm stumped as to why these messages aren't going out. Any ideas?

  My current setup has: a pfsense firewall with 4 NICs and potential for a 5th 1 48 port 3com switch, 1 24 port HP switch, willing to purchase more subnet 1) edge (Windows Server 2003 for vpn through routing and remote access) and subnet 2) LAN with one WS2003 domain controller/dns/wins etc., one WS2008 file server, one WS2003 running Vipre anti-virus and Time Limit Manager which controls client computer use, and about 50 pcs I am looking for a network design for separating clients and staff. I could do two totally isolated subnets, but I'm wondering if there is anything in between so that staff and clients could share some resources such as printers and anti-virus servers, staff could access client resources, but not vice versa. I guess what I'm asking is can you configure subnets and/or vlans like this: 1)edge for vpn 2)services available to all other internal networks 3)staff which can access services and clients 4)clients which can access services but not staff By access/non-access, I mean stronger separation than domain usernames and passwords.

The server uses a self-signed certificate, and connecting from home I get a warning about that, but connecting from work I just get the logon error.

• MS SQL - Problem running SQL Server Agent Job via service account credentials

  There are 5 steps in this job. First job is an SSIS Package store, second to fifth are file system jobs. We configured all jobs to use Windows Authentication. Under Run As, we specified a user account which was created under SecurityCredentials and SQL Server AgentProxiesSSIS Package execution. The job runs without any problems with this user account. We then proceeded to configure the job to use a service account instead. Service account was specified under SecurityCredentials and SQL Server AgentProxiesSSIS Package Execution.
