I'm looking for a piece of software that will let me hook a phone line up to my PC Modem and place calls over it using my mic and computer speakers. Does anyone have any experience with anything like this?
Title's pretty explanatory. I have an application(Second Life) that isn't compatible with 64-bit windows 7. It says that it is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, and 7 but only the 32-bit version of 7. I need to know if it's possible for me to download something to make the application compatible with my computer. I've run troubleshooters and ran it as windows compatible XP service pack 2 and tried again with service pack 3.
I want to upgrade the RAM on an old machine with a P4G8X+ motherboard. Currently, it has 2 512 DDR PC2700 sticks.
What's the best RAM I can use on this machine? I'm trying to upgrade my brother's old computer.
Help?
I installed Ubuntu on a free partion on a computer which had Windows 7 installed first, and Windows 7 won't boot. Usually installing linux after windows is recommended, but Windows 7 complains about there being a problem with its boot process.
How do I repair Windows 7 to boot correctly while maintaining grub to boot Ubuntu?
I want to know which program is recommended in order to setup such as scenario, ie accessing the internet from work or other places that traffic is monitored by installing a http tunneling service in a home computer.
Thanks in advance for any input.
edit: Is it possible to achieve the same by installing a home proxy?

My iPhone 3GS doesn´t show up in the Scanners and Cameras tool when I connect it via USB to Windows XP. Nor does the Camera Wizard pop up.
How do I make Windows XP detect the device as a Camera? I currently have no way of downloading photos from the iPhone to my computer. iTunes does recognize the device, but it doesn't offer a way to synchronize photos.
Thanks for your help.

I have a USB flash drive that claims it needs to be formatted every time I put it into my computer (Windows). Yesterday the drive was healthy and had data on it. The data is probalby still there. Are there any free tools to restore the drive? If not free, what tools are known to work in this situation?
I'm using the built-in Windows Backup. The default destination folder (backup location\computer name\Backup Set year-month-day time) is unsuitable for me because I already have got some other files in that location and I'd prefer to keep them there.
I found no way to change it. Is it possible to have a backup on the same partition but in a different folder? Or do I have to store backups on a different disk?
Whenever I play a flash video on my browser (whichever I use, Chrome, Firefox or IE), there's a risk that I lose my Internet connection. I know it's limited to my computer only as my roommates are unaffected. I'm the only one that loses connection. Using Internet Explorer's diagnosis tool always repairs the connection, but it's annoying as hell.
My OS is Windows XP, if that matters.
Anyone knows what may be causing this and how to fix it?

Installing the new Malwarebytes 2.0 put a shortcut on my desktop that I want to remove, but dragging it to the recycle bin shows this message:
I am an administrator on this computer, so normally clicking "Continue" solves the problem, but it didn't work here. Instead, I got this message.
How can I resolve this? I have tried using the built in super administrator account to remove it, but that does not work either.
In Windows XP the Windows Explorer has a "common tasks" sidebar on the left hand side of the Explorer window that shows grouped items based on the part of the file system being explored. When viewing "My Computer" groups that are listed are "Systems Tasks", "Other Places" and "Details". Is there a way to add directories of my choosing to the "Other Places" group?
I have Mini DV tapes, Hi8 or something lol. I have a camera that will not play them back, too choppy and cleaning has no effect. Is there a player, or adapter that can just read them into a computer? Thanks.
I have an external hard drive with my music on it, and I would like to make playlists on my computer that will play on the 360. Is there any way I can do this? What formats would be possible (m3u? pls?)?
I have too much music to make the playlists on the 360.
Back in the day (day =~ 1994), the tseng et4000 video card had extended modes for the console under linux. There was a beautiful monospaced font (I think it was for 100x40 or 100x50, but my memory could be wrong). Anyone know a way to get said font for a modern computer (e.g., Mac OS X) or the history of the font, etc? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tseng_ET4000 has little info on this score.
I accidentally renamed the username of my account on my Mac (running OS X 10.4.11) and tried renaming back to what it was but now I have two accounts (the one I want to use which has all my preferences, applications, mail boxes, etc., and the new one).
Is it possible to copy my settings from my original account into this new user name? When I open my computer, it defaults to this new account, and I cannot gain access to all my work documents, mail settings etc.
I have a legitimate copy of Mac OS X. I want to install Ubuntu on my new AMD computer as my host OS, then install Mac OS X as the guest OS via VirtualBox.
Does anyone know if this will be an easy thing to do? Will I need some kind of hack job to get OS X working via VirtualBox?
The passwords cached for Network shares on other computers and applications like MSN Live, MS Outlook, Sharepoint portal, Outlook Webmail, etc are lost when I reboot my computer, which runs on Vista.
I always check the Remember password checkbox in applications/login dialogs where ever prompted.
I cannot imagine of a third party program that may clean up this on system restart/shutdown.
Any idea, as to what is going wrong?
...when logged into a Server via remote Desktop?
I see no way to Access Windows security. In "old" 2008 R2 there was a "Windows Security" entry in the start menu when coming via rdp.
In the new Metro Start Menu, the username context menu allows me to lock the Computer or log out - but not Change the Password.
Yes, I can go through user Management, but this is not something I want People to do ;)
I recently got my first Mac computer, a late 2009 Macbook Pro model. I used to put my previous notebook (running windows 7) to hibernate directly in order to save battery but I can't do the same in Mac Os.
From what I can tell Mac Os only hibernate a notebook when battery dies after a long sleeping period.
Is that a way to manually put a Macbook to hibernate?
I recently purchased a computer with the intention of using it as network-attached storage. It presently has no Windows password and only one account.
Can I create two different shares (share two different folders) in different ways -- make one publicly accessible, and make another only visible to people with a certain username/password combination?
Creating multiple users isn't a problem, I just can't figure out where to start within Windows.
I'd like to record what I hear coming out of the main audio jack on my Mac. Nothing fancier than that.
I'm aware of Audio Hijack Pro but that really does much more than I'm looking for and comes with a steep price tag. If it's the only tool that can do the job that's fine but I was hoping to find something that simply captured all audio coming from the computer and dumped it to a file.
Any suggestions?
How do I make itunes save tagging information to the file itself?
I tagged a file and then loaded it into a different itunes library on a different computer via a NFS share. The tagging info wasn't present which leads me to believe the tagging info is only stored in the itunes DB.
Update
I'm specifically concerned about movies files, so if you RClick - Get info
Options - Media Kind (Movies/TV/etc)
Video - Show/Episode/Season
These tags don't seem to be saved to the file itself, this is lame.
