  Hi all, Let me show you a demo: here it is working for only rows. its not working for cells. i want to change cells' (tds') background colors with mouse clicks. For example: a have a table, and it has 4 tds. table's background color is white. if i click to a td, a td should be red, than if i click to b, b td should be red and a td should be white again. if i click to c than, c should be red and b should be white right now. • Efficient persistent storage for simple id to table of values map for java

  I need to store some data that follows the simple pattern of mapping an "id" to a full table (with multiple rows) of several columns (i.e. some integer values [u, v, w]). The size of one of these tables would be a couple of KB. Basically what I need is to store a persistent cache of some intermediary results. This could quite easily be implemented as simple sql, but there's a couple of problems, namely I need to compress the size of this structure on disk as much as possible. (because of amount of values I'm storing) Also, it's not transactional, I just need to write once and simply read the contents of the entire table, so a relational DB isn't actually a very good fit. I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions? For some reason I can't seem to come up with something decent atm. Especially something with an API in java would be nice.

  I need to transform data from one schema into another in an MS Access database. This involves writing queries to select data from the old schema and then inserting the results of the queries into tables in the new schema. The below is an example of what I am trying to do. The SELECT component of the below works fine, but the INSERT component does not work. Can someone show me how to fix the below so that it effectively inserts the results of the SELECT statement into the destination table? • Advanced search functionality

  I have a website with a jQuery based autocomplete search functionality which works great. Currently though I have just one search box for all categories, what I want is for someone to be able to type in, say for example, dorian gray dvd (in any order) which will search for dorian gray within the dvd category. What this will require then is a bit of magic on the server side to figure out if any of the words are category keywords, and then limit the search by that. What is the best (and quickest) way to do this in PHP / MySQL? I currently have a few trains of thought Search the category table for matches and perhaps order the results by that. Or split up the search terms into an array and separately search the categories for that for a match. Another thought I just had is to concat the category title to the dvd title in the database and match against that, or something similar... but this sounds computationally expensive? Any advice?

  I have a form that contains 5 check boxes. The user may select one or more of these check boxes. The user may select 2 and leave 3 unchecked or select 4 and leave one unchecked and so on, in that case how can I write the php/mysql code that will insert the form data into the database. With just one selection it's easy, I would do: $checkbox_value = $_POST['i_agree']; mysql_query("INSERT INTO terms (user, pass, conditions) VALUES ('$user','$pass','$checkbox_value')"); But how can I write this when there are multiple check box options and only one or more of them will be checked? I want to insert them all in one column called "tags" separated by commas.

  I need to retrieve all records ordered alphabetically. Except for a predefined list of record's columns which their records should appear first in a given predefined order, then all other records should be sorted alphabetically based on the same column For instance, assume we have the following table which is called Names Lets assume the predefined list is ("Mathew", "Ashraf", "Jack"). I.e. these are the names of whom their records should be listed first as in the predefined order. So the desired query result should be: Which query could retrieve this custom order ? P.S, I'm using MySQL. Every time a child folder is created in the nested structure, the previous parentID is added. I want to get the RootFolderID of a folder which is added in the hierarchy as tabulated below.   I've two tables, shows and objects. I want to print out the latest objects, and the shownames for them. Right now I'm doing it this way: SELECT MAX(objects.id) as max_id, shows.name, shows.id FROM shows, objects WHERE shows.id = objects.showId GROUP BY shows.name however, if I also want to fetch the episode of the object I can't put it like SELECT object.episode [...], because then wont automatically select the object which is MAX(objects.id), so my question is how to do that? If you haven't already figured out my tables they're like this: Shows id name and also: Objects id name episode season showId Using MySQL. Thanks!

Its reads: "Column Building (default to 1 but can be 1-10)" I can't seem to find ...or know where to look for this information.   For everyone that was thinking of the error_reporting() function, then it isn't, what I need is whenever a MySQL query has been done, and the statement has like if($result) { echo "Yes, it was fine... bla bla"; } else { echo "Obviously, the echo'ing will show in a white page with the text ONLY..."; } Whenever statements have been true or false, I want the error to be appeared when redirected with the header() function and echo the error reporting in a div somewhere on the page. Basically something like this: $error = ''; This part appears inside the div tags <div><?php echo $error; ?></div> So the error part will be echoed when redirected with the header() if($result) { $error = "Yes, it was fine... bla bla"; header("Location: url"); } else { $error = "Something wrong happened..."; header("Location: url"); } But that just doesn't work :(

• Maintaining sort order of database table rows

  Say I have at database table containing information about a news article in each row. The table has an integer "sort" column to dictate the order in which the articles are to be presented on a web site. How do I best implement and maintain this sort order. The problem I want to avoid is having the the articles numbered 1,2,3,4,..,100 and when article number 50 suddenly becomes interesting it gets its sort number set to 1 and then all articles between them must have their sort number increased by one. Sure, setting initial sort numbers to 100,200,300,400 etc. leaves some space for moving around but at some point it will break. Is there a correct way to do this, maybe a completely different approach? Added-1: All article titles are shown in a list linking to the contents, so yes all sorted items are show at once. Added-2: An item is not necessarily moved to the top of the list; any item can be placed anywhere in the ordered list.

• CakePHP HABTM Plugin table naming conventions (for 1.3)

  Hi everyone, I know naming conventions for tables used by plugins generally start with the name of the plugin and then the model pluralized. For example lets say I had a plugin called Poll, with a model also called PollPoll and another model called PollTag then the resulting table names would be poll_polls and poll_tags. They would also have a habtm relationship so what is the convention for that table name? I believe it would poll_poll_polls_poll_tags, although it is a little redundant it makes sense since the first poll_ represents the name of the plugin, while poll_polls and poll_tags relates to the models. Also have any naming conventions changed for plugins in 1.3? Is the above stated correct? Thanks!

• Best way to gather, then import data into drupal?

  I am building my first database driven website with Drupal and I have a few questions. I am currently populating a google docs excel spreadsheet with all of the data I want to eventually be able to query from the website (after it's imported). Is this the best way to start? If this is not the best way to start what would you recommend? My plan is to populate the spreadsheet then import it as a csv into the mysql db via the CCK Node. I've seen two ways to do this. http://drupal.org/node/133705 (importing data into CCK nodes) http://drupal.org/node/237574 (Inserting data using spreadsheet/csv instead of SQL insert statements) Basically my question(s) is what is the best way to gather, then import data into drupal? • Database structure for storing Bank-like accounts and transactions

  We're in the process of adding a bank-like sub-system to our own shop. We already have customers, so each will be given a sort of account and transactions of some kind will be possible (adding to the account or subtracting from it). So we at least need the account entity, the transaction one and operations will then have to recalculate overall balances. How would you structure your database to handle this? Is there any standard bank system have to use that I could mock? By the way, we're on mysql but will also look at some nosql solution for performance boost.

  Hey, I have two models Users and Roles. I have setup a many to many relationship between the two models and I have a joint table called roles_users. I have a form on a page with a list of roles which the user checks a checkbox and it posts to the controller which then updates the roles_users table. At the moment in my update method I am doing this because I am not sure of a better way: role_ids = params[:role_ids] user.roles.clear role_ids.each do |role| user.roles << Role.find(role) end unless role_ids.nil? So I am clearing all the entries out then looping threw all the role ids sent from the form via post, I also noticed that if all the checkboxes are checked and the form posted it keeps adding duplicate records, could anyone give some advice on a more efficent way of doing this?

  Is it possible to configure Hibernate reverse engineering and code generation tool in such a way that one-to-many relation between tables is mapped to entities inheritance instead of enrites relation? I have Person table and Employee table, which are related with the foreign key (Person contains basic information, Employee the rest). In my Java code I would like this relation mapped to inheritance Employee extends Person. This can be done by hand, but maybe I missed some custom configuration parameter that I can use. I couldn't find any official documentation - docs link on RedHat Hibernate page (http://www.hibernate.org/5.html#A10) is broken...
