  • Using WebSockets in a C# Web Application?

    I know its possible to use WebSockets within C# using a console application running along side the web application but Im wondering if its possible to use the requests on the C# web application to create the WebSockets. I've been looking through ASP.Net and Im starting to think it wont be possible unless I use straight up C# and create my own HTTP server and then use the same socket object to generate Web Sockets (similar to the way Node.js and Socket.IO work). Any thoughts on ways to include WebSockets on a C# web application without having multiple servers / projects?

  • drop down not retaining selected value after post back

    I'm using classic asp, I have a drop down list that the user selects and then presses submit. After they press submit the drop down list is going back to the default value instead of what they selected. Is there anyway to keep the state of the drop down between post backs instead of it going back to the default? Can post code sample if needed. Thanks!

The old Web Service endpoint had a nice extensive description page generated from the comment of the underlying class exposed as a service endpoint. In particular, all available web methods were listed. Is there a way to emulate somehow this behavior with WCF? At least, how can I customize the HTML content of the WCF endpoint?

  • Sign out button reloads all user controls

    I have an aspx page with several user controls (ascx) as well as an asp:button for signing out. The click event of the button clears the session and does a response.redirect to the login page. However, before the click event is called, since the page posts back, all of the Page_Load events run for all of the controls. What is the best way to have the click event code run without unnecessary reloading of all user controls?

How to make the four borders of a TextBox (using Html.TextBoxFor) red when it fails validation?     Is there a way to prevent the user from selecting a file that is not a specified file type when they browser for the file on their computer? For example, when a user browseses to upload an image file I would for them to only see images (jpg, png, ect.) that are less than 20mb. Is this something that can be accomplished with asp.net mvc and jquery or do I need to use flash or a java applet?
