  I have 2 questions I hope someone is able to help me. I bought a usb/serial adapter based on PL2303X and not PL2303. 1- Do you know of any patches to make the PL2303X detectable and functional? 2- Assuming I got the patch, and before I apply it, I wanted to upgrade my kernel. I found this website http://www.unixmen.com/upgrade-your-kernel-the-safe-way-in-ubuntu-linuxmint/ to teach me to do so.. Is this a good procedure? and to what version you advise me to upgrade? • Hostapd to connect laptop to Android

  i am trying to set up my laptop as an access point for my Android to use WiFi, so i knew that ubuntu sets the network as Ad-Hoc which is not discoverable by android, So i tried the method explained here -which i found on many other websites- but when i run hostapd.conf this error appears : nl80211: Failed to set interface wlan0 into AP mode nl80211 driver initialization failed. • How can I connect my HP Photosmart C3100 printer in 10.04 (regression from 9.x)

  My printer was working under 9.x. It is a an HP Photosmart C3100 series. When I open Admin-Printing no local printers are found. I try to add via Other (My local choices are Serial and other). I have tried many url's - ipp://localhost:631/ipp, http://localhost/ipp, localhost, 127.0.0.1, etc... None have worked. Under the networked I have tried JetDirect, using localhost and 127.0.0.1 and port 631. I have tried many options under IPP with different variants in the host trying to verify a printer. No luck .I tried LPD/LPR with localhost and tried the probe. no luck. I tried the cups admin via localhost:631 and that didn't work. On the old version its simply found the local printer, I might have picked the driver, I can't remember but it was the photosmart c3100 series that was working.I just can't get 10.04 to print.

• Any good web frameworks for asynchronous multiplayer games?

  I'm trying to craft a site for web-based (original) board games, and my client (currently written in Actionscript, but that's highly fungible) works fine - I can play solitaire games in the client - but it has nothing to connect to. What I'm looking for is a server framework for handling accounts/authentication and game tracking: something that would let players log in, show them a list of their current games, let them invite friends to new games, let them make moves in the games they have open, etc. I'm flexible on language; obviously I'm going to have to write a lot of server code to handle the actual game logic, but that should be straightforward enough. I'm more concerned with how to handle the user (and game) DBs, though suggestions for a good server framework for communicating with the DBs (and serving up, most likely, JSON for client communications) are also welcome. Right now my leaning is towards Ruby (probably with Rails) but as far as I can determine it would be a pretty good chunk of effort to set up the necessary databases, so having something even higher-level would be really useful to me.

  Having used the Command+M keyboard shortcut to minimize windows in OS X, I'd like to use the same functionality in Ubuntu 10.10. When I try, though, it only brings up the "communications" section of the indicator applet; like so: In the Keyboard Shortcuts preferences, I have set as the minimize shortcut "Mod4+M", which I got by capturing the Apple "Command" key and the "M" key. I find no other shortcut using this key combination in Keyboard Shortcuts, and yet I cannot get the window to minimize when using it. Does anyone know how to override Ubuntu's default usage of this key combination? Thanks!

• How can a Cisco Aironet wireless card connect to a WPA encrypted network?

  I have a Thinkpad T40 running Ubuntu 10.10. I want to connect to wireless networks with WPA encryption; they appear in the network list, but are grayed out. The card does support WPA, since it works in Windows. In 10.10 the wireless works just fine with unprotected and WEP networks, but cannot connect to any WPA networks. The card is a Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b. I've been reading a lot of forum posts trying to find a solution, but either encounter threads where no solution was found or answers longer apply (most date from 2007, since this isn't the newest of computers). • Live CD won't start with UEFI

  I'm trying to dual boot my Windows 8 machine with Ubuntu 12.04 but I cannot even get to the Live CD under UEFI. I've already set my UEFI boot loader to load from the DVD drive before anything else but it keeps on loading Windows 8 first thing. I've checked that the Ubuntu installer I am using is working by setting the BIOS to legacy boot; under this setting, I can get to the Live CD but it cannot detect Windows 8---something I do not want to happen. Just for the record, my boot order is as follows: ATAPI CDROM: HL-DL-ST DVDRAM GT51N USB CDROM: USB FDD USB HDD HDD: TOSHIBA [SERIAL NUMBER] Network Boot-IPV4: Network Boot-IPV6 Windows Boot Manager Has anyone ran into the same problems as me for UEFI? I tryed to print an image - it stays with status - processing... and dont work. Test page also cant be printed. What a problem? • Wireless/Bluetooth problems on t43p

  I have been struggling to get my wireless mini pcmcia card recognised by 12.04. It suddenly stopped, mid session. I have taken it out and replaced with a couple of spares with slightly different serial numbers. One had no joy - 'unauathorised'. The other worked briefly for thunderbird but not firefox, it seemed. The network controller reads like this: 0b:02.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG [Calexico2] Network Connection (rev 05) I have ordered a replacement from ebay, and hope I got the right one - used the the FRU number from the one that stopped working. But I have ALWAYS had no joy with my Thinkpad t43p Bluetooth and Ubuntu ( 12.04, and even 11.04 and 11.10, if I remember rightly). Do you think the Bluetooth problem will solve with a new mini pcmcia? Surely not, as it has never worked, whereas Wireless worked until a couple of weeks ago...
